Maribelle is the perfect destination for any chocolate lover. The beautiful cocoa shop located in SOHO was the ideal lunch spot. I ordered some finger sandwiches that were not only delicious but very filling, and I followed that with their ice chocolate, a wonderful treat to cool myself down from the summer heat. I had never tried an ice chocolate before, and it exceeded my expectations as Maribelle’s chocolate really stood out due to its richness and decadence. The spiced chocolate flavor I ordered added an exciting twist to the classic and traditional drink. I finished off my afternoon snack with some vanilla and lemon macaroons that were delightful and made me feel like I was suddenly transported to a Parisian Cafe.

Walk through the shop to the back to find a small cafe with a dozen or so tables and lots of choices for hot chocolate and coffee. They also have food. We had a hot chocolate (we had the Maya and it was fantastic) and a decent double espresso. Stop in, rest your feet and give it a go.

Pardon my ignorance but I had never heard of this upscale Soho chocolate wonderland until a friend took me yesterday. It’s a beautiful BCBG kind of place, and it’s just too bad that their kitchen is still closed so their famous tea service and savories are on hold, for now. What they do have is a tempting array of chocolate: to drink, to eat, to enjoy. I was lucky enough to meet Marie Belle herself, who was so down-to-earth and friendly, and Johnny, one of the chefs, regaled me with the story of the shop (it’s 20 years old, immigrant-owned, and now has 5 shops in Japan and 1 in Dubai) and chocolate culture. In a way, I’m enjoying these days because shop owners and employees have the time to chat with customers and share their proud stories and little secrets of the trade. Despite its chic decor, the place had a neighborhood vibe (several customers dropped by and seemed like regulars, by their interaction with Marie Belle and her team). The place is split into 2 sections: the front has the store for its chocolates (be prepared to be overwhelmed) and the rear is where one can sit and order a drink and a pastry.A visit is definitely recommended.

I recently stumbled into an ornate oasis tucked away in downtown Soho, formally called MarieBelle New York. 484 Broome Street is their flagship store decorated to resemble a hidden European Sanctuary, equipped with a backroom café and rich gelato bar. Enormous crystal chandeliers hung over the vast selection of delicacies ranging from chocolate bars and bites to ganache truffles, hot chocolate, and leaf teas. While rightfully overwhelmed by choice of treats, a polite associate offered me bite-sized samples coated in pure dark chocolate decorated with cocoa-based designs. With each flavor combination unique and every design eye-catching, these desserts are almost too aesthetically pleasing to eat and possess great gift-giving potential. Whether the occasion is a baby shower, a wedding party, or a casual Friday afternoon surprise, MarieBelle sells chocolates worthy of marveling over and more enjoyable to receive than anything from a registry. In retrospect, the craftsmanship of this product is unmatched, all packaging is pleasingly cohesive, and the overall attention to detail exceeded my expectations. The price is comparable to other chocolatiers, but honestly, you’re paying for an experience, not just a product. A blue tote full of melt-in-your-mouth truffles, paired with the most decadent hot chocolate I’ve ever consumed, propelled me in a border-line sugar coma on the subway back to my office, a bearable repercussion for such a good experience. If you haven’t been already, I highly recommend popping into one of their city locations as the perfect place for a midday treat.

The staff here were lovely; the person in the café immediately gave me sample of the milk hot chocolate so I could see if I liked it before ordering. The milk hot chocolate was delicious and rich, but more on the sweet side than I was looking for; I decided to get the dark hot chocolate. Unfortunately, the flavor was lacking - there was no complexity, just flat chocolate taste (sugar might have hidden this in the milk chocolate). Although the small hot chocolate at Mariebelle is priced similarly to other chocolatiers, the cup is noticeably smaller, perhaps too small.

It took us quite a while to get receive our orders for our afternoon tea ceremony. The tea sandwiches weren’t very good, but some of the pastries were tasty, the macarons, scones especially. I was surprised they served us madeleines that looked like muffins (not baked correctly) the drinks were strong and made with quality ingredients (real peach/or orange juice)What was unacceptable was we found a cockroach near our table. We let our server know and his response was “oh, there’s only one?” 🤢🤢 I’m sorry but that’s unacceptable. If you’re going to charge this much, customers will expect a high quality experience. I would try the Russian Tea Room near Columbus Circle or Laduree in SoHo over this place.

This is a review based on the quality of chocolate bon-bons and the lack of customer service. With the level of packaging and aesthetics, the flavor is really lacking. There is an obvious use of extracts which make the experience of eating these chocolates lacking the artisanal quality expected. The chocolate may look pretty, but it seems like the ganaches are not fresh, and the chocolate is blooming from the sides of the chocolate. To top it off, one of the chocolates labeled at Hazelnut, was definitely NOT hazelnut praline (as pictured). I tried to address this with the company and they didnt respond to the fact that the chocolate is not what they are claiming it to be. I understand not being able to return them, but this is exactly why I wanted to return. It is NOT artisanal or high quality chocolate.Maribelle claims to be a world class chocolatier, but compared to other chocolatiers around the U.S., their standards are extremely low. The flavor booklet says the chocolates last for up to 4 weeks, which in a typical setting bon-bons and truffles without preservatives would last up to 2 weeks. Next time youre looking for artisanal, handmade chocolates try Stick With Me Sweets or Kreuther Handcrafted Chocolate--at least their products have integrity.
