Very safe and spacious, meticulous cleaning. This one has a smaller gym than the twin cities bouldering location but it makes up for it with tons and tons of auto belays which means you can go alone, not have to find a belay partner, and socially distance even moreso. Great gym and great staff that work hard to keep the place clean and safe and rules enforced.

Used to love rock climbing here but the front desk girls have become rude and not friendly. They have very bad attitudes towards the customers. Made me feel very uncomfortable. Been here a few times now. Lots of auto-belays with interesting routes. The bouldering sections are pretty small and the problems arent very interesting compared to other gyms Ive been to. Finding parking is also a pain when their tiny lot is full! Its a good gym overall but not really anything special. If you like bouldering I would recommend going somewhere else.

Theyre the only major climbing gym franchise in town and they know it. Machines at the Minneapolis top rope location are regularly broken for 6+ weeks. There is an abundance of auto belays, which is nice for solo climbers, but takes much needed space from group climbers. They dont communicate to members effectively about construction closures. The walls all tall, and the setting is fairly good, albeit more challenging than many other climbing gyms. This gym would really benefit from having some competition in town. Compared with other large gyms in major cities, Vertical Endeavors-Minneapolis leaves a lot to be desired.

VE I love you, but youre bringing me down. What day do I need to go climbing to avoid the huge groups of climbing teams and birthday parties? There is always some sort of event going on that makes VE Minneapolis super crowded. The same problem can be witnessed at VE Bloomington but the size of that facility makes it less intense. The kids hang around in huge groups for extended periods of time in the prime after work climbing hours. If youre interested in bouldering and dont have time to wait for the 10+ kids morning the bouldering caves, I suggest going either to VE Bloomington or MBP once it opens.Other than that, VE is pretty solid and it seems like the new Mpls route setters are getting better.

I went to vertical endeavors as a complete novice to rock climbing. The check in and orientation process is quick and easy so you can get right into. The staff is friendly and willing to help and spend extra time individually as needed. They have a good variety of different routes. From easy to very difficult. With both auto and manual belay systems. And there were enough options that we could freely move around without waiting for open routes.

Great place to climb in the area. The air conditioning isnt great in the summer, but you do work up a good sweat! Lots of sperate areas to climb in, even a bouldering cave. Great place and fun workout with friends! Ive also been to their St.Paul location. Came here for a little friends gathering had a group of around 12 people. Overall the process is a little tedious but it is for our safety. The wait wasnt too long but after changing and getting things put together it we were already about 35 minutes in. Right after and during orientation we were shown how to utilize the self belaying device. The only difficult part of this location is parking. Id suggest car pooling. The total was under $25. The climb, shoes were $5 and the harness was $5. Though it was very busy they had id say 5 different sections for climbing and boulder climbing.Atmosphere: FunCost: $25Suggestions: Bring shoes, a lock, and bottle of water.Ill be back.

This was the second time I visited this gym. I have time to kill sometimes when Im here for work. The staff are actually very friendly and helpful. They do a great job. They have a lead wall section, but for the most part there are just a bunch of vertical top ropes. The bouldering isnt that great. The problems are very clustered and I spent more time figuring out where the holds were than climbing. The setting has also gone downhill from the last time Ive been there. Ive set at many gyms before. They need to set less and set more consistent. Minneapolis definitely has room for a bouldering gym.

I love this place. And apparently, everyone else is deciding they do, too, because it keeps getting busier. Its awesome, tall walls, great variety of routes, and the staff switches up the routes every couple months so you constantly get new climbing challenges. If youre an adult and you want a chaos free climbing gym, Id recommend going later in the evenings when the crowds start to die down.

Good place in the city to get your climb on. Sometimes there are just a few to many birthday parties running around, and the holds can be a bit greasy. Climbing isnt what it used to be, its like going to Disney world now. Very busy so expect to wait inline to climb a route. Unfortunately, they do not update their routes often. There are still some there from August and September so it gets boring and repetitive climbing the same things over and over again. On top of that many of the routes arent even labeled for what their rated. They dont clean the holds so theyre jammed pack with chalk which makes them slippery. Its a nice facility as far as set up and equipment but its not well maintained.

Er
Review №41

Probably the worst climbing gym. To start, they make any first-time climbers wait around and then go through an orientation before you can climb. This whole process burns like an hour of your time. Second, and most importantly, they make everyone wear shoes - all the time. What kind of germophobic psychotic nonsense is that? Ive never encountered that at any other gym. Third, their climbing floor is made of these awful rubber chips, so the entire time youre there youre busy trying to dislodge the pieces of rubber from your shoes and all different parts of your body. Recommendation: Go to a different gym. Or better yet, climb outside.

We used to go to the St Paul location before moving out of state, and were excited to try the Minneapolis location while back in town for the weekend. It was a somewhat disappointing experience. The Minneapolis location feels very different from the St Paul one. The walls are still tall, which is awesome, and theres a good mix of lead, belay, boulder, and auto belay routes. But I didnt enjoy many of the routes. They seemed hard for the sake of being hard, requiring reach and strength but not technique. The check-in requirements were also onerous. We only had an hour or two to spend at the gym and spent a good 30 minutes of that just getting recertified and reoriented, an experience we can apparently look forward to every four months, even though weve been climbing regularly for a decade and are already certified at VE.On the plus side, the staff were friendly and somewhat apologetic about the requirements, but I wish the management would consider a way to improve the experience.

I forgot my climbing gear and had to rent when I was at VE Minneapolis. I know you cant expect the greatest from rented shoes, but they were horrible. Smelly, floppy, the velcro fell out constantly even when I was just walking let alone climbing. The harness had one loop that looked treated for metal and was meant to be used to clip in, but I also had to trust it when tieing in as there was no other possible way to connect a rope to the harness. The harness was huge and I had to constantly adjust the straps as they were coming loose. Not enough staff on the floor making sure people were climbing safely, Very different than VE St. Paul.

The new facility in Bloomington had a grand opening yesterday. Weve been to vertical endeavors and were excited to have one closer. We went to the open house to learn about a punch pass, climbing team and classes for a 7th grader and a 9th grader. During our visit, not ONE person said, welcome, hello, what can I do to help you, do you have questions, can I provide you any information. We were there for over an hour and could not get that information and staff was generally rude, harassed and too busy to talk have a conversaton. If what we experienced was any indication of how the facility will be run, it is sure to FAIL. The staff failed to listen or to provide any information. We started at the table outside and told them what we wanted and the woman didnt even listen, her job was to get people to sign waivers or as she told me that the facility was going lose their insurance. I stated multiple times that we were not going to climb, we just wanted information on punch cards, classes and climb teams. It didnt matter to her....she wanted that form signed, initialed and dated and it didnt matter what we wanted or what questions we had. It was clear, she and noone else would talk to us until we had a wristband. An open house should have had the purpose of providing information. We couldnt find any. Once we finally got back to the back corner of the facility we found a brochure on the climb teams, we were told by two staff members that they didnt know when there would be sign up and what days but they knew that there were no climb teams now and they didnt know when there might be. They could not tell us the difference between the climb teams or recommendations on how to get started. We asked five different people about punch cards. We still dont kow how many punches are on a card or how much they are. We asked about open gym and we were told that there 1.) there is never open gym (so why do you have punch cards, 2.) that there was always open gym. I dont know which it is. I asked more than five people the same question. We asked about classes and we were told to go to the website. So, we had a great time at the open house. We got pushed, shoved, and told to go to the website. Next, time, skip the open house, just call it open climb and those of us that were serious about getting information can stay home.

The staff that worked the day that I went in was rude and didnt help at all. They said orientation is every 15 mins and I ended up waiting 45 and I decided to go up to the counter and ask for a refund but then just then they did the orientation and then when they tested me for the belay and lead belay they failed me for not verbally checking but physically checking the rope. As well the place was not clean and required alot of tlc so if I were you I would not go the this vertical and I would go to lifetime to climb unless you like rude and unobservant staff when you are trying to be in a safe climbing environment.

Review №76

Good variety, routes seemed to be rated fairly. However, some inexperienced kid failed me on my belay test, because I had 5 inches of excess above the figure 8 knot instead of 6 inches, and I hadnt locked the carabiner connecting my ATC to my belay loop after I double checked that it was closed and secure. I have done my top rope certification through Vertical Endeavors twice in the last 5 years and have taken more belay tests than I can count. I have been told multiple times by Vertical Endeavors staff members that that specific carabiner doesnt have to be locked. I thought this kid was joking. Thought Id pass along their personal preferences for people taking their belay test in the future. Also, material was falling off of the wall into my face on a couple climbs.

Wi
Review №77

Lots of good auto belay routes. Beware if you fail the belay test thats the only chance you get for the whole day. It is not listed on the main rules board or explained by staff and is only on a small placard behing the counter. Ive never had a problem before at other gyms but failed here. Employee then refused to show me the method she would have passed me on told me I was not allowed to practice and refered me to the class offered twice a week. My climbing partner passed the test despite a few errors, leaving us with an imperssion of inconsistency in their testing standards. We are only in town for the day, so the one test per day policy was frustrating. As former law enforcement type and military I understand that policy is policy. The company would prefer to make you come back for the class than help you be safe and learn while having some fun and working out. Thats not how I think a buisness should be run but its not my buisness. Just having consistency and clear standards for pass/fail and a simple verbal heads up to suppliment the very small sign would go along way for their customer service. Lost 2 stars for the customer service but 3 for the nice and varied routes.

I agree with some of the other reviewers: annoying rubber pieces, absent staff, and overcrowded gym. While I still go here on a somewhat regular basis, the gym is rather poor to fair compared to several other indoor gyms I have climbed at. In addition to the over crowded nature of this gym, the route setting is obviously done by inexperienced setters (unless you like performing the same climbing move all the way up an 80 ft route)....at some point it has to be more about the money...
