Good food. Love the concept (tax and tip worked into the prices, order at the counter) chili bean sauce of the burrito was good. Large portion sizes, we could have split one breakfast burrito. Nice staff.

Excellent staff, the breakfast egg & cheese biscuit w/ the Cliff option was delicious...sorry no picture, I couldnt wait to eat it. The Eclairs are the best I have ever eaten! The rhubarb muffin, also delicious. Prices reflect quality of food. Food and staff are awesome, check it out for yourself and make sure to get an Eclair.

Very good, simple, homemade food. We ordered the grilled cheese (the multi-grain bread was an amazing choice and added taste to an otherwise too simple of a meal). My husband had their breakfast burrito, it tasted great but too big for one person. Would definitely order again!

Homemade chai!! And its fantastic and not overly sweet at all!! They make a great latte. Also, they have a lower caffeinated red tea version. Ten stars for the chai alone, but five more for the bakery items, the beautiful sun filled space, the great staff, their missions, efforts, priorities, and values. Helping homeless youth, paying livable wages, local sourcing, it goes on and on. If I ever move out of southside Ill still make the trip here.

Dan is a wonderful owner, and the ambiance of the store itself is very family friendly / cozy. The food is usually great! However I am inclined to mention that the Creamy Mushroom Soup had WAY too much rosemary in it. Every mouthful had a leaf in it and it was enough to start picking the pieces out. Could just be me but less is more!

This is a community-oriented cafe unlike any other in America. Their mission is in every detail and choice they’ve made as a small business. From where they source their ingredients to the young men and women they employ. The food itself deserves 5 stars as well. The best apple pie I ever had was from Butter Bakery. The best poppy seed cake I’ve ever had was from butter bakery. Their Turkey BLT is one of my go to sandwiches in Minneapolis (delicious). Their biscuit sandwiches are also fantastic. Easily accessible by bike. Will be going over and over again.

Butter Bakery Cafe was a delightful surprise! I had the tofu scramble and my friend had the breakfast burrito. Delicious- but the apple honey scone topped it all! I did wish that it had been a little warmer in the dining area, the metal chairs are chilly. But all and all, a great meal and atmosphere. Thanks for the kind smiles and delicious food!

What a cool spot! This cafe is community-centered and great for meetups. The atmosphere is bright and engaging and the menu is quality. They serve food and drinks in actual dishware of plates and mugs. They are well-staffed, but the wait can be somewhat long at times. Theres a lot of seating. The food is full of flavor and portions are good.

Watered down coffee, not as much flavor as I expected. Service was fair enough. Ordered a dark roast but it reminded me of my moms coffee. I kept drinking it thinking, wait, will this get better? No, it wont. I ordered the Breakfast sandwich Clint style, based on the instagram photo, which was delightfully presented, but honestly, the biscuit could have been more salty. It was a perfectly assembled biscuit with a perfectly melted cheese and egg over easy. That part was perfect, and the avocado was also perfect. When I got it home, I added hot sauce to amp up the flavor.

We ordered a birthday cake from Butter Bakery because they do good work and work to support persons in need. The cake was lovely in appearance, and the carrot cake by itself was delicious. The frosting, however, ruined the cake. There was way too much of it; it was very HEAVY; and it was tasteless. What about using a simple cream cheese frosting on the carrot cake??

I only did a takeout order but the cafe seemed pretty cute on the inside. In a great location with a lot of street parking (though I went at a non busy time). The biscuit sandwich was pretty good for how inexpensive it was. Theyve also moved away from a tip based format which I really like. I felt like the biscuit was slightly dry or maybe overcooked, but I think i may just be used to something different. The pastry section was on point too.

The concept is admirable and the food is pretty standard. The man working the counter today was extremely rude. A very elderly gentleman asked for a pancake 3 minutes after kitchen close and was harshly told “no, the kitchen is closed” - he then asked if it was possible to just get a bowl of soup and was again met with “um, no! The kitchen IS CLOSED.” You should treat all customers and humans with kindness and respect, but especially cute little elderly folks! When I got to the counter, I said “how are you?” to the staff member and he replied “well, I’m here.” Additional aggressive rudeness ensued and I left with an incorrect order because I wouldn’t dare bother him with that. Be better, sweetie.

Great place to meet friends, responsible business owners, fair wages for workers.Good job practicing physical distancing. The only critique I can give in that regard, is that when I tried to order online, the payment field where I was to enter my cards expiration date information. Most of the transactions I make use a mm/yyyy format. On butters website the format is mm/yy. This being the year 2020, the payment field thought i was entering the year 20, when it should have been 22. I was unable to correctly enter, so I phoned it in.

Great concept not especially well executed. For a casual, counter order cafe, you wouldnt expect to have to wait 20 minutes to get a very average smoothie, but I did. My friends even waited slightly longer for their sandwiches, and although the environment was conducive to good conversation, our bellies were rumbling pretty loud by the time our food came out. Cant fault the staff too much as it was a busy morning, but...it wasnt that busy.

This place has delicious coffee and food. They use high quality, local ingredients which taste delicious and give the place a leg up over other cafes in my opinion. It seems very community oriented and has been one of my favorite spots since moving to the neighborhood a year ago. I love their daily quiche and the breakfast burrito. So many vegan and vegetarian options make it even better! They have great baked goods as well, like the magic bar and all their cookies are good. It is also a place that pays living wage so the tip is built into the prices which can be nice.

I really want to give them 5 stars, but I cant.Lovely people, they pay a living wage so no tipping. The atmosphere is great, service is great, but the food is always disappointing. Bland, Midwestern boring. I was excited to see beautiful biscuits in the display case, only to bite into unsalted things. I literally used a salt shaker on biscuits. I did this twice, so it wasnt an anomaly. Other foods also required salting, but still lacked flavor.Funny thing is, I want to go back, but I wont.

Ive walked past Butter Bakery many times and never tried it but have always heard good things. The place was very quiet when I went in, nearly dead. I waited 7 minutes for someone to come to the counter. I ordered a $6.50 bowl of soup to go. I waited another 10 minutes for them to give it to me. The tiny container, the server assured, me was full to the very top when I asked if the container was the bowl I ordered. I got home to find a good 2 or 3 inches of empty space and the container only about 3/4 of the way full. Im really not impressed. The 2 stars is for decently good soup, nothing amazing. I might give it another try just to be fair but I dont expect to be wowed.
