This coffeeshop is present in a older building that looks somewhat like an old fraternity housing, with actual greek life houses near by, on the edge of University of Minnesota. Not very large inside, or as neatly kept as spyhouse, but it has it own unique character inside. Yoyng professionals, professors, and students make up the customers.

Great tasting coffee in a really neat environment. Feels like youre in an old house. Very warm and cozy aesthetic. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.Parking in that area of town is not the easiest to come by, but being on a college campus I dont think most people there drive a whole lot while on campus anyways.

Like entering a Harry Potter coffee shop. Magical, a step outside of the ordinary.... into the ordinary supernaturalness of God. Have a seat and allow the music to minister to your soul. Maybe come with pen and paper and listen to what your heart wants to say.. there is a quiet peace resting over this space. Also.. the eye opener done miel style is 💕💕💕💕BAM! 💕💕💕💕

This is the first coffee shop I have found in the Twin Cities that I truly enjoyed. Its in a cozy little ivy-covered brick building and somehow feels like a cottage inside. There is a fireplace, couch, and comfortable chairs and tables that leave enough space for people to work on their computers while others chat. Dont go for food, but the coffee drinks are nice. I had one called eye of the tiger, which was espresso and chai. They had a good list of teas, too. I will be coming back soon.

A little more than your typical college coffee shop. In only one visit, its easy to tell they do coffee right. Cafe Miel and other drinks that are often too sweet in other shops are spot on. Coffee is recently roasted and resultingly smooth. Top notch all around. Worth seeking out and stopping at.

This is a quiet-yet-lively, roomy and elegant space. I love the variety of seating arrangement, small tables and chairs, comfortable armchairs, bigger couches. Electric outlets. Large windows. One space is semi detached with a large work table for groups studying or meeting. Delicious hot chocolate. Beautiful cups. The atmosphere and the space are my favorites. Its also very close to a University of Minnesota campus so its a nice crowd, too.

I walked in here with a group of friends after a basketball game at Williams Arena and found myself in a cute, quaint, comfy coffeeshop filled with comfy couches, unique rooms and very nice people! The idea behind remodeling a retired frat house into a coffee shop is a great idea and the whole place is rather cute. Drinks were good as well

Wonderful place to study and meet a friend for coffee! Very cozy homey atmosphere probably because this hidden gem of a coffee shop used to be a sorority house! Plenty of seating and study groups can reserve the library table for meetings. My favorite place to sit is by the original fireplace. Local art displayed on the walls as well which supports local artists and adds bonus points!!!

A really sweet and cozy campus coffee shop. The specials always catch my eye with adorable hand drawn signs. Its a great place to work or have a little meeting. The baked goods are incredible. I love the scones and could eat their chocolate chip cookies for days. They know what they are doing with their coffee - my favorite is their honey cardamom latte. This is place is cozy, perfect for low-key study dates and meetings. there are plenty of dietary options for drinks, and a limited selection of bakery items if you end up coming hungry. the layout is unique and homey, it’s quite a gem for its size and location. staff are friendly and conversational, service is timely, there is wifi and plenty of outlets for those with electronics. i got a lot of writing (typing) done here for my undergrad, and i’ll always come back to re-experience that level of productivity. parking can be dicey, especially on busy nights on the university campus, so come prepared to hunt down a good street spot.

Review №63

I used to love this place, but under its new management the quality of service seems to have seriously deteriorated. I place no blame on the baristas, who have remained pleasant and kind as Bordertown obviously struggles. Recently in particular, I have noticed a huge shift in the welcoming atmosphere Bordertown used to have. The gender neutral pronoun sign for the baristas seems to have disappeared as have the instructions on recyclables and compostables, which I thought were a lovely touch to the business. Its so disappointing to see such a neat place lose all of its charm and as a Christian the increasing lack of acceptance and environmental awareness is startling to me. Additionally, within the last month or so the entire espresso machine broke down, which I was super disappointed by. I hope this place can recapture some of its old magic, but I wont hold my breath.

Review №64

Im surprised not to see more reviews about the obvious mouse infestation in this coffeehouse. I literally had a mouse run across my foot. I went and told the barista who was very apologetic and explained that they had told management multiple times and they still had done nothing about the issue. I will not be returning even though I used to go there for coffee almost every day. I feel like it cant be hygenic to order food and drinks in a place with a rodent problem.

Somewhere that feels great to meet with colleagues or friends, or spend time alone being productive or relaxing. The best coffeshop near the UMN definitely. Not to be confused with the epic trading destination from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Bartertown (run by Master Blaster, obviously), this converted mansion has multiple levels of seating for groups small and large. The coffee is strong. The tea is hot. The service is excellent. The only thing keeping me from giving Boardertown five stars is that every once and a while, when school at the nearby University of Minnesota is not in session, the coffee shop will be unexpectedly closed because someone didnt show up for the early shift.
