Great tasting coffee and loved the way the set it up ordering on your phone. Scan the QR code and place your order. It said it would take 15 minutes, but it was actually ready in about 5. Well be glad to come back again soon to try other ones. Oh, they also sell beautiful plants from a local shop (Leaf and Spine) for a good price.

This place is rather quaint. Its an interesting space with a few wooden chairs. They have a bit of merchandise that looks like it supports local artists which is cool. The staff was super helpful and they dont charge extra for almond or soy milk!I drank their signature Kindness drink. It wasnt very strong at all. Tasted more like almond/coconut milk than coffee. However I like coffee relatively strong and power packed. Plenty of street meter parking.

Iced coffee and a lemon-blueberry scone. Both were delicious and the service is friendly, quick, and with reasonable prices. The place is clean and bright, a good place for a quick stop or time with friends. There are lots of independent coffee places around here and this is among the best.

This bright cheerful shop on Figueroa serves absolutely top-notch espresso and coffee, sourcing their beans, when I was there, from Onyx coffee out of Arkansas, a favorite third-wave roaster. There’s seating for around 20 inside, including a sun-filled window seat, and a couple tables on the sidewalk outside. Pastries were inconsistent when I was there. While a butter croissant was excellent, a scone was so dry it crumbled to dust. They also offer donuts and muffins. But the coffee and espresso are worth five stars. They also do a few signature drinks, with ingredients like turmeric or hot chili. A great spot.

Im quite surprised that I havent written a review here, considering this is my favorite coffee shop in the Highland Park area. Always not busy, always have great customer service and always has great coffee. Im usually a Kindness of Mischief kind of person, depending on my mood (like its fellow mascot), so I cant vouch for the other coffee drinks. And who else cant resist a fox mascot?

First impressions mean alot and my first impression of this place was YUCK!The coffee was super bitter and the pastry that I selected was rubbery because it was undercooked. This is a charming little place with nice healthy houseplants for sale along with other nicknacks but my taste buds were very disappointed. I will not be returning.

This has become my new favorite coffee shop!Parking has been always super easy to find, always out in front in one of the meter spots.K&M has been observing strict COVID rules, calling out customers who arent adhering to their social-distant markers inside. They have plexiglass, and they even have a little microphone/speaker to make communicating with the baristas behind the counter easier to hear. They have seasonal menu items, and every item so far has been a hit. Right now, theyre still on their Winter menu (California in Winter which is like a coffee cocktail spritzer), but my favorite is their Miso Caramel Latte iced. Wow, its such an odd pairing that I was surprised how much I love it.The inside of the store has house plants for sale, and they have a lot of neat K&M branded merchandise, including a selection of their coffee beans.

Review №21

Super cute store and good coffee. However, an older lady there gave me some serious attitude when I, forgetting if I had ordered an iced or hot drink, approached her and asked to confirm. What I got in return was a nasty look, and without saying anything, she took a bigger clear plastic cup, poured the contents of my drink into it, filling it halfway, then touching the mouth piece of the lid as she put it on, walked away. I asked for more ice, wanting the cup to be a lil more full, and she begrudging took it, and gave me a few ice cubes, drink still half-full.Despite Leaf & Spine being the biggest pull for me there, Im not coming back. There are really great coffee places around the neighborhood and that passive negativity is not very welcoming. All the other baristas there, though, are awesome and friendly and I have had only good experiences with them. Hence, the 4 stars.

This place has a delightful vibe, with brick walls, wood tables, and festive garlands! The staff were incredibly helpful and lived out the kindness aspect of the shops name. My friend and I both got pumpkin lattes made with rooibos tea and agreed that the cup was full of cozy, fall happiness. Almond and soy milk were both options. We also split the ube biscuit, which the staff warmed for us. Quite tasty and unique!

This place has probably some of the friendliest and most uplifting people working. If you have a bad day or wake up cranky, just home here and they make you feel better with a lot of smiles. In addition to that, they serve some really good coffee. Its well balanced and they know how to do a real Flat White. The architecture and design of the place is great and bright. Ill certainly stop by here again when I am in the area. Keep up the great work guys!

Popped in here on a rainy cold day and it was packed! Definitely a good sign that a shop is crowded, despite rainy weather.Parking - I parked on a side street about a block away (metered parking). Not really sure if they monitor the area or not, but it didnt look like too many people actually put money in their meters (lots of red flashing lights, haha).Greeted by all smiles and a warm room was definitely what I needed on a cold Wednesday afternoon.I opted to go with the cold brew and a vegan churro donut, probably one of my better life choices of 2019. The cold brew was an excellent price compared to other coffee shops Ive been too and the donut was right in the same ballpark. The brew was bright, fruity, and clean, extremely smooth! Top that off with a warm, churro donut, and I was perfectly content.Check them out and you wont be disappointed! Cant wait until I come back again!

I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Kindness & Mischief on our interview date.Don’t let adorably compact storefronts fool you, because in the case of Kindness & Mischief, you really won’t understand why it’s one of Highland Park’s beloved coffeeshops until you take the chance to step inside. In an instant, you will be enveloped in the warmth of the fresh scent of roasted coffee as well as an obvious sense of community that spans from the ‘Mischief Library’ at the store’s entrance its patrons to its staff. Barstool-style tables give visitors a chance to meet someone new in their neighborhood, while bistro sets line its brick walls provide an intimate experience for duos and busy bees alike. A fun addition to the shop comes in the form is a dainty reading nook-like perch at the front of the store, in which its windows peer out to the two tables outside as well as being able to engage in a fun people watching session. In terms of their menu, Kindness & Mischief does their best to provide a menu that’s comprised of classic coffee favorites, choices for tea-lovers, seasonal and house specials (such as the Kindness Latte), and options for those who *gasp* might not want a caffeinated beverage. They also strive to introduce customers to yummy pastries provided by local bakeries like Creme Caramel LA and The Caffeinated Kitchen, which include vegan options so everyone can enjoy something scrumptious. A menu highlight for me, and anyone who may need or prefer milk alternatives, is the fact that they do not charge extra for a substitute, which normally costs at least $1 everywhere else. Its attention to menu options really shows the shop’s dedication to fulfill every type of customer’s needs, and as a coffee lover, entices me to want to come back again and again.

I accidentally came in here with my friend Jack. He thought it was a typewriter store and wanted to buy a paper reel so we could write a really long complaint letter to the white house and ask if we could hide in Trumps bed and spook him out by putting fake spiders on his pillow. Any way. Turns out its a coffee shop. So that was nice.

Incredible coffee shop we stumbled across on a recent trip to LA. Absolutely will be back the next time Im in town, and highly recommend you check it out! The coffee is strong and delicious with plenty of options for espresso drinks, nut milks, etc., and the food is great too - try the frittata for breakfast. Theres a good amount of small table seating, some low key music that isnt too loud to keep you from concentrating on a book or work, a bathroom, and lots of lovely natural light from the windows. The staff is super friendly, and theyve got a cool heart behind their business - for example, a leave one, take one book library just outside the front door, and a pay it forward type policy where you can pay them for a cup of coffee that theyll give to someone who later comes in and has forgotten their money or is homeless/cant pay for their coffee. Such a big fan and cant wait to come back!

Theres no visible Wi-Fi network associated with the cafe and no sign indicating one even exists.
