Was initially reluctant to purchase online as just had 2 terrible DCC loco online purchase experiences. Bought a number of N scale rolling stock at Lombard Hobbies and one had an issue.Called the store and they were prompt to resolve. The owner who I spoke to is very knowledgeable and patient. Im essentially a newbie so its great to speak to one who knows the hobby. The 2 bay hopper issue was resolved promptly and exceeded expectations.Lombard Hobbies is on my go-to list when seeking new items.

I heard lots of great things about Lombard Hobbies. Just bought my 1st Amtrak Starter Set & my plan was to model the Cardinal a train that originates from Chicago to New York Via the Appalachia Range in West Virginia. Staff were very helpful to find the right equipment to run my very first train in N Scale. Will come visit again for more N Scale equipment.

Lombard hobbies is a great place to get trains for cheap!! I got the N scale Metra starter set and have been enjoying it. I recently got the Metra F40PH. when ordering a package. I have been enjoying it. It is also a great place to railfan! right next to the tracks. They also give you a snack when you order a package.

My experience was absolutely wonderful. I ordered my locomotive and caboose on Monday before noon. I received my order next day Tuesday by 2:00PM. The priced point for my order was more than fair. The person I spoke with was extremely knowledgeable. He offered a suggestion that accompanied my locomotive perfectly. My order was packaged with a. Bag and a track gauge and some fruit candy. Much more than I ever expected. They made my Father’s Day a great success.

Drove from Rockford area to visit for first time. Was worth the drive. Selection was good and salesman was helpful. Prices are also reasonable. After leaving, I found myself wishing Id bought a few more items. Comprehensive website with lots of detail on inventory. So I created an account and placed an order online. Order was placed late Sunday and received already on Tuesday. All items very well packaged and adequately protected from potential damage in shipping. All around great service.

I was in the vicinity and decided to pay them a visit - my first. My jaw dropped to the ground when I saw the selection - its huge. The volume and variety of stock is absolutely impressive. This combined with fair prices and good service make Lombard a definite visit if youre in the area. Although, even if youre not, you can also access them online. As a side note, they are literally a stones throw away from the Union Pacific (former C&NW) mainline heading west out of Chicago.

The best in store experience in the area for all model railroad stuff, Lombard hobbies is a great place to visit and shop around or just spend some time getting ideas for your layout. Their prices are better than the internet based business who are not operating a brick and mortar business. They can place a pre-order for those items that are out of stock and call you when they receive it. The team is always smiling and welcoming and I love visiting Lombard Hobbies for my hobby needs.

Very much disappointing, as an international customer, never faced such problem with any other online shop. Ordered a locomotive on 8th March 2021 ( order no.77069) from India. But when I received informations about the shipment, I noticed that they mistakenly printed my address destination Indonesia, not India, and this type of mistake never comitted by me, as I have lots of experience in international shopping. I immidiately informed about their mistake in address. But very unfortunately, they just send a mail to USPS and forwarded that mail to me, the parcel goes to Indonesia, and now its 4 months gone, no updates of the parcel received, states its lost in transit.....now they are not even bother to reply my mail, I spent more than 200usd, and the parcel lost due to completely their fault. Never faced such a disappointing event with any other online shops. Will not recommend to anybody.

HUGE SELECTION of HO Scale trains and rolling stock. Though the trains they carry are primarily Diesels, they occasionally do get some nice Steamers in. They carry pretty much all of the popular brands and everything is in alphabetical order which is an OCD persons dream come true. Wide range of prototype era stock which is great for those who model certain time periods.

I ordered a few HO scale items and didnt notice that I accidentally ordered a N scale. The person who was filling my order noticed that and called me to verify what I want before he finished the order. If they were not extremely organized and paying attention to detail I would have upset my son with the wrong item. Thankfully they saved my hide. The order came extremely fast and is going to make my son very happy on Christmas.

I ended up finding three locomotives and 24 pieces of rolling stock that I had been looking for, for quite some time. And, if your order is over $500 (I think thats the right amount, but it could be a little lower or higher), they will ship for no additional charge, which is QUITE a benefit when you consider the total cost of a purchase. If you collect HO trains this is the place to shop. Prices are unbeatable. Prices lower than Ive seen online. They let me Test run every locomotive before I buy. Huge selection of rolling stock and locomotives. Everything is quality and all boxes are neatly stacked and organized so theres no spending 30 minutes just digging through a pile of random boxes in hopes of finding something. Nice place to look at or get model trains and accessories, but extremely limited on any other hobby related items. Very small section of rockets and model cars, but that’s it. Lots of trains, tracks, landscaping, etc. for the model train enthusiast, with a wide range of prices and sizes.

I dont know why some of these reviews are so negative. I went here for the first time and several people were very helpful and talkative. I didnt find the gem I was looking for but I did walk out with some minor purchases. And I would say this store has the biggest selection of HO trains I have seen in northern IL. I am going to be back soon.

Jeff has an awesome selection of HO and N scale trains. A sea of DCC and DC locomotives as well as rolling stock of both freight and passenger cars. You can find about any era of steam and diesel. For first timers here, expect to spend about 1 hour to 1-1/2 hrs if you are seriously looking. Out-of- towners, I guarantee you that you have never seen anything like Lombard Hobbies and you will hate to leave.BTW.. If are you are deciding to get into model railroading, please stop by the Elmhurst Model Railroad Club on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons to see a huge layout and you will enjoy the hobby!
