What an amazing journey, I ve been through alot these last couple of years, and I am so grateful for Academy Cars, this is what its like getting out the mud, sticky situations life has brought upon me, so I have to say from start to finish, they didnt skip a beat,OI am building my credit with a car that I love, 2018 Ford Ecosport SE, and its crazy cause if I had stopped at the first no I got from a different place I had checked out , I wouldnt have my baby today, so I worked with a gentleman named Cedric, (ask for him 😀)and the owner of the dealership Lonnie and with the help of my Co signer, the deals just kept rolling out the window, Lonnie was able to secure me, one of the lowest interest rates in the state of Kansas, under 3 percent, He was also able to give me twice the amount for my trade in, they got all of our information the previous night, and after picking out a car , and the paperwork went through the very next morning, Lonnie is a man of his word, I loved how they didnt skip a beat as far as professionalism, 5 star customer service, they listened to me, and I ended up with my new baby, her name is Responsibility Blue......it was also amazing when I went to.pick up my car the next morning, Cedric had a sign hanging in the window, that simply said... Welcome Alisa...with a smiley face.... I m telling you what, its the little things that matter and trust me please when I say if your shopping for a new ride, please go to Academy Cars in Lawrence, where the freaking deals are so crazy good, 🤪 I ate two pickles and I hate pickles...... thanks Lonnie and Cedric for my new ride I love it to death , I think I want to marry it....

The guys/gals are AMAZING. they listened to what we were looking for and what our budget was and took everything into consideration. They all had a great since of humor, but was professional at the same time. They stayed after hours to make sure we left with what we wanted. The pricing is reasonable for the years and miles. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

I have to say Academy is where its at for getting what you are looking for. They gave me more for my trade than any of the big dog dealers in the state would. And i mean they took care of it. I got the best financing i have ever gotten from a vehicle dealership and i got yhe vehicle i wanted no issues. Debbie was my sales assistant and she was great through the whole process. Definitely recommend hands down the best in Lawrence for sure. As well my new vehicle is like showroom condition.

Ive never financed a vehicle before and only had a trade in. I did not want a ford as I know Fords have multiple issues but also did not have a down payment. They took advantage of that and sold me a ford edge that they guaranteed was in great condition - it was anything but. The car sensors for the doors constantly telling me the doors were ajar when they were not for one. For 2 and probably the worst part is the car completely turned OFF on me in the middle of me turning in an intersection with two little girls in the backseat saying LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE. I called them advising they need to fix this as it is AGAINST THE LAW to sell a car knowing it isnt in good standing condition to be sold. They tried to blame it on me, telling me they never recorded the sensors in the doors not working when this was clearly seen by the salesman who sold me the car while test driving I had not had this vehicle more then a few weeks and this has happened. When speaking with Dan in their mechanical department he was nothing but RUDE toward me and acted as if MY CALLING was an inconvenience for him. I got a voicemail today asking me to call back to confirm what was happening with car so I did and i get Dan and he doesnt have a SHRED of decent customer service and just says Were working on it. I told him i got a voicemail to cb to clarify anything if needed and he snapped at me very rudely and said I NEVER LEFT YOU A VOICEMAIL. I said THE SALES MAN CALLED ME. This company I swear. The only DECENT NICE HUMAN in that building I WOULD SAY is the finance guy. Cannot remember his name but very polite and nice WHILE I WAS IN THE BUILDING. I just want my car Im paying almost $300/mo for to be in good condition and not almost kill me and my two little girls.

I went to Academy based on a recommendation and was not disappointed. My car was shot and I needed a new one ASAP. I have always heard the ads and just never looked into Academy. Steve was very easy to work with as a sales person and able to find me the car I needed very quickly. Tom in finance was also very easy to work with. I ended up with a good car, good payment and a very painless experience overall.

Academy Cars was a GOD send!! My car was stolen & vandalized and while I was waiting for my insurance co. to take care of everything and walking to places or taking a Lyft, I stopped at Academy Cars. I was just looking and out walked John Warren & Lonnie!! I explained my situation and with the help of John, Lonnie & Todd in Finance Dept, I was able to drive off the lot in a SUV that I always wanted!! They were very caring, helpful, honest and made sure I was taken care before & after I drove off the lot! BTW: My SUV was & still is in EXCELLENT CONDITION!! I couldn’t be happier!!😁

Bought the Nissan Rogue Sport has a warranty on it the radiator fan isn’t working we live 139 miles from Lawrence KS so driving it there is risky since it’s hot out side and they don’t offer a loaner car for the three days it will be in the shop. Had I known this before buying the 2017 car I would have shopped somewhere that takes care of there customers after the sale as well as before the sale. Depending on what happens in the next three days will determine if I ever do business here again and the do have a nice van my wife has her eye on.

Worked with John Warren and owner Lonnie Blackburn to purchase our car. Was as painless as possible. Went to bat for us and got us a far lower rate than we thought possible. Plus they had it together for sure. From test drive to driving off the lot in our new car it was maybe 2 hrs. I’ve never known anyone to buy a car that quick. We had conversed over email prior and John took the time to get to know us so that by the time we were on the lot we weren’t wasting any time looking at vehicles we didn’t care about or being dragged into a vehicle they’d had on the lot too long. We bought a car and it wouldnt start after 4 days. We called and the service manager said to call this specific tow company from Lawrence and they would pick it up and tow it back to Academy Cars and bill Academy Cars. All Lonnie Blackburn wanted to talk about was the extended warranty that we had purchased. It would cover $60 of the close to $200 tow bill. I didnt pay the difference in the tow bill but I will NEVER shop there again. I have a niece that bought a car there a few days before we did. Hers also had issues after a couple days.

They give you false information...they dont help with anyone with bad credit or NO credit...they have the guys on the phones tell everyone they can help you regardless of your credit...and I told them I only had 700 down payment and they said they will take care of me....OBVIOUSLY THEY DIDNT....still car less and they are RUDE and make fun and talk about you behind your back.....dont go....CAR max is better and they help regardless!!!

Drove over 64 miles. Three different salesman were told all the financial limits prior. Was encouraged to come in. Only showed one vehicle and then refused to finance without a cosigner (my mother told them over the phone, before coming in she did not want a cosigner) when there, was asked by the same salesman if were going to finance or pay cash 3xs in under 10 min. They do NOT listen to there customers and waste peoples time and resources. Not recommend. Found better deals with lower mileage Vehicles in Topeka.

We have had our car since April of 2017. I have waited for two years to give this review. Its easy at first to give great reviews because you have that warm fuzzy feeling of purchasing a new vehicle. Sometimes that feeling begins to fade as you continue to do business with the car dealership. I can tell you that I have had nothing but great service for the past two years from Academy Cars. Has it been perfect? Maybe a better question is have I been the perfect customer? I would answer no to both questions. However nothing in life is perfect. They do a great job and if youre lucky they will be running the pickle sale and you can get a new car and a pickle.

They call every day until you come in and finally once I came in I started getting the run around the particular salesman that I was working with stated that because it was to late it would be first thing the next morning before we knew anything I waited until 10am the next day to call once I was able to get ahold of the salesman he stated that they where still working on it and that it was a busy morning but he had customer in front of him and once he was done with that customer he would give me a call back, never heard anything back from him eventually spoke with a finance manager who didn’t make me feel like It was nothing more then a sale and said that because it had been a very busy morning they where still working on the getting everything put in to the lenders but promised a call back from the salesman I was working with I never heard anything and I even drove a hour in a half to come there, I was already skeptical about going there because of other reviews and word of mouth, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, customer service was terrible! Update: as of 9/20/2019 no one ever returned my phone call

Pre-qualified me and then denied me for 7000 turned around went to better dealership and was approved for 26000

My fiancee and I were trying to get into a Chevy Trax and they got us approved for a Nissan Rogue. Not a big deal, but we couldnt afford it. They didnt try to get us financed for the Trax and then they proceeded to tell us we needed 2000 dollars which we didnt have. When my fiancee had enough and wanted to leave, Lonnie himself raised his voice at him. I wouldnt recommend unless you want to be treated like dirt.

Car was great for a few years. The transmission died about 1,000 miles from home and Im still finishing up paying the loan. It just went over the warranty period. May not be reflective of all cars purchased there.

Tanner and Lonnie we amazing. I purchased a 2015 Chevy Traverse from them at the beginning of 2017 and the buying process was so easy with them. Even with my less than perfect I was able to get the vehicle that I needed at a price that I could afford. Im over fifty and bought my first brand new car. James the salesman was so great and understanding. He made the whole experience much easier than I thought it would be. I was able to give him a ballpark figure of payments I could afford each month, and he was able to crank out the numbers and find a car right for me. He was just so understanding about it. Ive bought three cars from Joyce and Lonnie; my brother has bought four, and my mother one. Our kids are driving cars we bought when they were very young and now are in their twenties! First impressions are always important! When you drive up to Academy Cars in Lawrence, KS, get out of your car, and within a matter of seconds a person is offering to help you out. That is a great first impression! When the person offering assistance has a voice that is undisputedly recognized from the commercials on the radio as Lonnie Blackburn himself, that makes it even more impressive. When you listen to the commercials and hear the passion in Lonnies voice, then witness his passion first hand by seeing him personally, his wife Joyce, and the entire team working hard to create a deal that meets your needs. Even more impressive! By making their guest feel comfortable while waiting for paperwork from financial institutions to be processed. Very impressive!I went into Academy Cars in Lawrence Kansas to shop for a car. By the efforts of Lonnie, Joyce, and their team, they were able to work it out so that we were able to buy 2 cars and still come in under our budget. We actually left Academy cars feeling like we were part of the family. I purchased my second vehicle from Academy Cars last month and both have been good experiences. They assisted me with getting the appropriate documents necessary for a rapid purchase. I did not have any problems with the first vehicle in 2011 and so far have not had any issues with the new vehicle. The salesman was polite and kept me informed with the process. I am enjoying the upgrade.

I just bought a car from Academy Cars. I was worried I wouldnt be able to get a loan due to no credit history, but it was no problem. I was able to get a car in the same day with no hassle and no worries. the staff was great and very helpful especially Nick Stock. I give them 5 STARS. The whole process was painless.

This was by far the quickest, no nonsense experience I have ever had in purchasing a vehicle. Tyler is the person I worked with and I explained to him my criteria in what I was looking for in a car and he never once tried to push me into a vehicle or to try to sell me something that was outside of that criteria. I couldnt be more pleased with the experience that I had and because of this experience I will be looking at trading in my other vehicle in the near future. This is BY FAR the most pleasant car buying experience Ive ever had. Comfortable, clean dealership and the staff, especially Debbie, are super knowledgeable, nice, and just really great to work with. 10/10 would shop again.
