I was hesitant to come here due to the negative reviews: HUGE mistake.I have visited most of the vinyl stores here in Las Vegas and spent over $1,000.00 in 3 trips to one store. They have yet to know my name or ask me if there is anything special I am searching for.On my initial visit to Wax Trax, I was greeted and told where to find the different genres in the building. YES you have to get everything priced, I knew this and as assests, the value of vinyl can change daily. It was not a hassle. When I checked out, the gentleman asked was there anything special I was looking for? I gave him 3 titles. He called me 4 days later and had located all three, one of them n Spain. Customer service still matter folks.Lable, compilation, reissue, remaster, picture disc, unofficial release, matrix number, master release, 1st pressing: so many variations that can have an effect on the price of a record. These are not the albums they are selling at Target boys and girls. If you are not familiar with the graduate level of vinyl collecting, I can see this being overwhelming to some. They offer memorabilia, tour jackets, concert t-shirts and so much more. Come by and plan to spend a few hours to take it all in.

One of the best used vinyl stores I have visited. Granted, I buy vinyl for listening reasons, not collecting for future resale. I loved the selection in the $5 room and was able to check off a few albums off my “wish list”. Its an amazing place, but be prepared to spend top 💵 for anything in this place. Its like a music museum or gallery where you can buy basically anything you want. LITERALLY....they had 4 Michael Jackson Thriller Albums. Yes, I said 4.Theres 🎵🎶 and memorabilia as far as the 👁️ can see. Meticulously organized by genre & artist. I mean an ENTIRE Billie Holiday section all to herself. Spaces are very tight in the store, but its definitely a cool experience. Prepare yourself if you ever feel claustrophobic! 🎵🎶🎧🎼🎤📻

This place has tons of records that I just haven’t been able to find anywhere else. The selection here is unmatched but the pricing is really steep. Discogs has much better prices but the store was convenient and it’s always fun to dig through the records yourself. The staff was helpful and they helped me with the layout of the store. If you’re hunting for a rare record you’ll probably track it down here but be prepared to pay extra.

Great selection if you dont mind digging, but buyer beware, they price off of Discogs, the High End of Discogs, and regardless of the condition of the cover, if the vinyl is pristine, and the cover looks like its been through a house fire, with 7 inch splits at the ends, promo punches mid sleeve.. theyre still asking top dollar, even though you can point out 3 others of the same releases on discogs that are $30 - $40 dollars cheaper. Do your research and show it to em before your purchase.

I’m baffled by the reviews stating how “reasonable” prices are here! Firstly, NOTHING is priced… the owner will quote you a price for the records you choose to purchase only upon viewing your entire sales selections. Prices are at the NM grade as listed in any of the price guide catalogs regardless of the actual physical grade of the vinyl. Reissue labels such as “COLLECTABLES” are exorbitantly high-priced (8.00-15.00)… The owner is a former NYC record store owner who is trying to impose his own sense of a record’s value on the public… VERY DISAPPONTING visit…

I don’t think we will be returning to this record store. Owner wasn’t the friendliest but his dog Charlie was sweet. Nothing is priced Until you bring your selections to the register and they look online to see what the highest selling price is and they knock a couple dollars off of that. But it is ridiculously overpriced. I wish we had read the reviews before going there. It is so disorganized and you need to shimmy your way through this place. I instead would recommend ZIA Records (2 locations but the one on Rainbow is my favorite), Record City (2 locations also) or Moondog Records. Their prices are A LOT more reasonable.

Dont be put off by the disorderly nature of the shop. Yes, you need to squeeze around random shelves and boxes, but once you do, you will find vintage stuff in excellent condition. Im talking Sabbath, Purple, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Stones, Beatles, all of it. Is it pricey? Oh yeah it is. Quite pricey, but a true lover of classic albums will find it worth every penny. The owner is direct and lets you know up front, his store is high dollar and for serious collectors only. Know that going in and have fun, because this place is incredible.

Went to Wax Trax for the first time. I was kindly welcomed to the store. I was asked what I am looking for and directed upstairs. I was also told that they don’t have prices on anything, just pick out records and bring them down. They will then check the internet and give me a fair deal. Strange but ok. Picked out about 10 records, took them to the desk and waited about 40 minutes for my “Fair prices” lol what a frickin joke.I looked up a couple recorded while there one was priced from $15-19 bucks. His fair price was $50. Another was $10-20 bucks, the ultra fair price on that one was $90. I quickly realized that this wasn’t the place for me. Unfortunately there is an excellent selection but dude must be smoking some high quality dope when he gives prices! Which I imagine he can afford if people pay those prices. I was also told by his co worker that this is a collectors store! That was the second clue of what I was in for. After the first round of insane prices I had a couple more records I asked about and was told that’s gonna be expensive!Overall just a joke of a store! If you are a collector I guess you’re willing to pay crazy prices and this may be the store for you. The selection was quite impressive but I’ll never return. If he was reasonable I’d think he would make so much more money but hey, I’m not a record store owner.

I’ve read the good and the bad reviews... but here is the deal with with Wax Trax. Selection is incredible - 100% worth the trip just for that alone. Second , the owner is part of what makes the experience. He’s to the point , he jokes around , is direct but not rude , wants you to have fun looking and yes he is there to make money. Don’t be surprised that everything you grab isn’t a steal because it’s not that kind of place. Hit the $5 bin if that’s your thing because you will find something you want. Organization is sufficient but you can always ask for help. Nothing is priced and they do look it up but try to think of that as part of the xperience. A record is worth what someone is willing to pay - know your number and engage in the fun of it - you may be surprised. I had an absolute blast. Got some really sweet deals, some prices were fair and I might have overpaid a little for 1 of 10 but it was worth it for selection and knowledge of the staff. Will return again 100%

I was waffling between four and five stars for Wax Trax, but theres too many pros that outweigh the one con. If youre from the East Coast, like I am, the owner, Richie is a nice throwback to the stores I visited as a kid and the store owners I worked for back in the day. Hes knowledgeable, helpful, and I enjoyed talking to him as much as I enjoyed the truly unbelievable collection. The store was busy today, and Richie and Jerry were both helpful; its a store I will certainly visit again. They get five stars for the collection - Ive never seen such diversity, and they had several copies of hard-to-find records Ive been looking for. The one con is how they price records, but after reading other reviews and thinking about it - its not Tower Records, Sam Goody, etc. Its a place to find that music collectible thats important to you. The four records I walked out with were reasonably priced - one Ive been looking for for 30-years (A rare Roger Waters album) - and more importantly - no one else has these records. Ive been to Amoeba in LA, stores all over Vegas, San Jose, Denver, and many others domestic and international, but this is a unique place worth visiting.

The collection of records here is truly mind-boggling. I began by chatting with the owner, Rich, and meeting Charlie the dog. I told Rich I was interested in mostly classical and he pointed me first to his rare/collectible classical selection. I was amazed-many original Living Stereo, Decca and Mercury Living Presence titles. I’ve never seen so many of these holy grail pressings in the wild before. I then went downstairs for more classical and was distracted by his “audiophile” section. Rows of MFSL, Nautilus, CBS Mastersound and many others. Just amazing. All this before I even began searching for other “normal” records. Rich and Jerry’s system is a bit unusual (nothing priced; bring them the records you’re interested in, and they give you a price), but they are both extremely knowledgeable, helpful and FRIENDLY. I would say I paid a fairly high price for my selections, but my selections were very high quality. Make the trip to Wax Tax. It’s an amazing place and a great experience. I have been to Wax Trax several times over the past 5 years, and I make a point to go every time I am in Las Vegas. I have read a number of the reviews below, and they really dont offer an accurate assessment of what this store offers to a serious vinyl collector.Having shopped in literally hundreds of vinyl stores in the US, Europe, and Asia, I would absolutely place the collection at Wax Trax in the top 2 or 3 of those for the rarity and the condition of the used vinyl. Heck yes, the price is high. And the scarcest stuff is not priced prior to check out. But simply put, you will find things here you wont find in any other brick and mortar store in this density. How about all 5 of the original Ike & Tina records on Sue? Or two original German copies of Pretty Things S.F. Sorrow? A Mint original Spanish pressing of Sticky Fingers? Or Timothy Learys original first album on ESP? Those were among my finds in a one hour visit last weekend. And that barely scratches the surface of what a serious vinyl hound can find here.I would suggest that visitors to this store with less desire for high end collectible vinyl make that clear to owner Rich Rosen on entering. There is plenty here in a more affordable and less ethereal category. But for truly dedicated vinyl addicts, this is one of the few places you can actually hold these artifacts in your hand and take home a pile of finds that you may never see again. Ill take that against the uncertainty of EBay or Discogs any day.

Being 15 years old, I havent had the chance to experience the original record stores back in the day, so every time I come across a local vinyl shop, we have to stop in. Knowing what I was after, I knew what it was worth, and decided against the purchase. I wasnt able to afford it, anyway.... Right?I love small businesses and at this point, I had every intention of coming back and shopping again. And then....I tried to buy a few of their bumper stickers for my boyfriend, friends, family and myself and was told they were only for people who actually bought something. Alllllrighty then.... Great store, but not for the faint of heart (be prepared).I ask for a bit of advice from more seasoned collectors before visiting this place and the main gyst of what I was told was this: Amazing Selection , but your own knowledge of records will determine how much the owner charges you and I agree- its a superb shop (probably the most well-stocked record store Ive ever visited), but if youre not prepared to haggle with the owner, as well as have a lot of patience, this shop will eat you alive.I collect bootleg vinyl and since the unofficial vinyl catalogues for a lot of artists are sparse, I have to make sure that Im as up to date on my knowledge of bootleg records as possible to prevent myself from being ripped off by merchants, as a lot tend to assign random or fabricated prices to bootlegs. Even with that knowledge intact, it was still very difficult to haggle a more desirable price from the owner. He originally wanted $100 each for two double LP bootleg albums, both of which I knew were overpriced(The first one Id only go $75 or under and the second one id only go $60 or under), but after I gave them to his partner to price using online resources (along with a stack or other LPs I was interested in), they knocked down the offer to $75 each (which I was satisfied with for the first album, but felt a bit ripped on on the second). Initially, I was a bit unsatisfied with what I paid, but I had a chat with a longtime customer of the shop and he brought up a good point; this isnt a shop people go to for bargains, this is a shop that people go to for access, as the shops catalogue is undeniably massive. So while I do feel like the second album was overpriced, I do tend to agree with the sentiment that paying a bit extra is worth it for the vast range of albums this store provides (in terms of the stuff I like, it was a literal goldmine).I feel bad for only giving it three stars as it is one of the more impressive record shops Ive visited, but I do mean it when I say that this is a shop for hardcore collectors only. Anybody without a well-established knowledge of correct values and haggling skills will get eaten alive here, but for more seasoned collectors, its quite the experience.Think if it as the record shop equivalent of a double black-diamond ski run: make sure youre prepared before traversing. I only visited because I was passing through Vegas on a family vacation, but I definitely want to visit again at least once in my lifetime.

I dont write reviews...until today. I was in Vegas for work and spent an extra day to shop the local record stores. I went to 7 of them looking for mainly KISS items and each had a good selection. The one with the best selection was Wax Trax. I have been a KISS collector for 40 years and it is difficult to find something I dont already have, but it is really just the fun of looking. When I do find something that may upgrade my collection or maybe something another collector is looking for i will buy it. Well, the reviews on the owner are true. When I told him I collected KISS he said he dated Lydia Criss and when he tired of her introduced her to Peter Criss. He then went on to explain he was an expert on KISS. I politely listened to his stories on KISS merchandise and said nothing, but he was wrong on everything he said. He kept asking me to write a positive review and give him 5 stars before I purchased anything. I finally put a stack of albums on the counter for pricing. He asked if I had written the review yet. I politely said no and he got angry with me. He then had his assistant look up all the albums and gave me prices that were just unbelievable. I decline the offer and he said he was leaving the store to his son and didnt want to leave him with nothing. I said goodbye and hit the door fast. Good luck to the next customer.

It has ALOT of Inventory, but they want Top dollar/Collector pricing. Not All can afford to spend that kind of money. They have to look up pricing and that takes time and patience for All involved. Not for everyone.

Very cool shop... The owner is something of legend amongst Vegas music nuts... Rare pressings and audiophile selections abound in this 3-story shop. The prices are a bit high but its worth it for the experience and selection (which literally reaches the ceiling in some of the rooms).

If no stars was posible thats what I would pick. Disrespectful, and outright racist, selection may be good, but dont guide me to your 5 dollar deal, and then proceed to tell me the rest is to expensive. Dont judge the buyer before you get to know him/her.

Great stuff at retail++ pricing.Your heart will race when you walk in this little store, but your excitement will quickly turn to disappointment when Rich starts talking your ear off and quoting you prices. Rich is an entertaining fella with endless tall tales about the music industry and record hauls, but youll never get a bargain here. I bought a handful of rare soul 45s and paid the same as I would have on ebay (without all the chit chat and crate digging).Nothing is priced beforehand, so Rich looks everything up as you wait, and goes with the highest (or higher) online auction results from ebay & popsike. He apparently has a lot of mail order clients who dont know how to use a computer and will pay whatever for a record.Once was enough for me.

This place has the best selection of rare LPs I have ever encountered. Despite other reviews regarding price, I think the prices are fair. The hard to find albums I was looking for were there. Hope to return soon.......

This is actually a record museum; a joyless, bitter and unknowledgeable museum at that. Its true nothing is priced so just save the time and look it up on Discogs/popsike yourself, add 20% to the top price regardless of condition, and then you wont have to answer how much money youre willing to spend before he tells you how much the records cost. The people who say bring a lot of money got convinced records should cost as much as hes charging. They dont. Anywhere else. Plenty of actual record stores in the city, dont waste your time here.

If you want to overpay and shop at a store where the owner could careless whether you buy anything or not then this is the place for you.I was quoted $800 for a Kiss box set that I can get for $150 on ebay.I left just shaking my head at this place.

Fair amount of albums. As others mention the owner is a circus act. No prices. You are expected to invest time looking thru things and then pay the price he shouts at you. I guess he thinks that once you are invested, time wise, youll pay. The prices he comes up with ... we are talking $80 for $10 records. I saw him ask $400 for a common. That guy walked and so did I. Life is to short. The impression I got was this guy made his money in other ways and this business is his retirement playtime. Doesnt seem to care who buys what.Personally Id rather do many other things than live in this guys realm of depressed old man. In a week I will have forgotten more about this person than anyone needs to know. And onwards we go.
