Bud & Leah went above and beyond to help me find what I needed. Seriously give these two a raise!!!A separate day - John helped me locate a power cord that was appropriate and perfect for my needs. He was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable I really appreciated how he went out of his way to help me find what I needed thank you so much!!! He also is an employee that’s helped me multiple times. This is probably the best Sutherland’s to go to because the employees typically go out of their way to help. Raises all around!!!Max also went to the other end of the store for me to get me a cart. I’m disabled & didn’t think I’d be grabbing salt bags while I was here but ended up finding the right type & he was gracious to help me get a cart when he really didn’t have to, he was just being straight up kind! Very caring people. I hope their minimum wage is bare minimum $15 starting out because I’ve never experienced employees so willing to help. I hope they’re taken care of the way they take care of their customers!!!David L also saw me struggling to lift something & came right in to help me! What a great team this store has!!!Wayne & Lisia helped me find putty & tools for fixing my wall!!!

The service is impeccable! Keshia explained the return policy (which was easy to do because Im a friends & family customer). We talked about the benefits of buying and shopping local. I own my own business here in KC too, so I like when folx understand this economic concept.

Found what we needed and it cost less than the Ace closer to us. Dealt w a couple of cranky employees. Not a usual occurrence.

An nice little place to get hard to find items

We live close to a Home Depot, so we rarely make out way over to Sutherlands. We recently came in to purchase a shower base from the Onyx Collection and were assisted by Ryan Arnold, the Assistant Manager. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient with us. It was evident he was needed in many areas of the store, and we were extrememly impressed with how well he prioritized us while making sure the other customers were taken care of (the whole time with a grin on his face!). You forget what true customer service is like, and its people like Ryan that ensure brick & mortar retail is still very much needed and a[[reciated. We will be taking our business to Sutherlands from here on out, thank you!

I am very upset, more like angry, for one I had to take a ztrip to get there, for 2, I spent $45 on what I thought was white paint according to the lable just to get all the way back home and open the cans and hmmm, its not white paint like the label says its freaking brown paint..

I always enjoyed going to Sutherlands to see the wonderful deals. I hope the Sutherlands in Independence, will be opening soon. Cant wait for the Spring flowers sale in 2021.

Sutherlands carries nearly everything a home improvement DIY type would need. Whats more? A friendly and knowledgeable staff is happy to give you some guidance if need be the case.

My go to hardware store as it is very conveniently located for me at 72nd and Wornall. Easy in and out parking. Always friendly and helpful staff. Today it took two people to find just exactly what I needed! Reasonable prices

Squirrel holes in my house driving me crazy.Sutherlands had everything I needed to repair and seal up those holes. Finished painted repairs looks like those varmints were never here.

I give Sutherlands 4 stars because the store is great but the line to the cashier was about 30 people long! If i could give it 4.5 stars, Sutherlands deserves it. A great place to shop with a wide variety of products.

A good place to go for basic hardware items if you live nearby. For anything out of the ordinary, go to a bigger store instead.

I like this particular place even though some days are better than others for assistance from the staff, but I have a vast knowledge of the industry that I work in therefore I have a good knowledge of products & there uses

You wont find a friendlier, more helpful store! Have used this store MANY times as my go to. They always have what I need and are always helpful. You can always find someone who will go out of their way to make your visit worth while. Even calling in with a question, you find a friendly, knowledgeable person to help out. I NEVER WANT TO GO ANY WHERE ELSE!

Bought a Ashley couch there three months ago... They delivered it to my house... Everything was great... Its a spare room couch so doesnt get used often... Probably a total of three times since I bought it... went to sit down on it yesterday and have the supports gave out on me... Im not that big of a guy maybe 212 lb... Went in today to see what their exchange policy was.. They were very helpful... Pulled up my paperwork chop chop... Helped me find the phone number... Very nice... People that actually care... Wow!

I love this place! Theyre a *little* more expensive than some places, but they often have great sales that are worth a wander inside. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They always bend over backwards to answer any questions I might have and their recommendations have all been spot on.

I’ve always loved this hardware store.Goods and service have always been great.Unfortunately and of recent, some of your new employees bring issues.Myself, a Blackman ‘sense’ some of the new employees have an obvious bias.And -I’m quite use to that.What adds ‘injury-to-insult’ is giving me wrong information [more than once]. In this age of info, no one asks naive questions and certainly don’t live naive answers.Something else that tic’d me off, one guy telling me you’re completely out of something -when you’re not.No, you don’t have to be nice but ‘do your damn job!’Managers, I can’t be the only one.

They usually have what I want for a decent price. But to find it, I have to dodge bucket after bucket thats catching leaks from the roof. Its hard to trust a store that sells the stuff they need to repair their own roof, but wont actually repair their roof.Short version: Decent selection. Decent price. Good location. Bad shipping experience.

Staff was very attentive, courteous, and friendly

I went in looking for parts for a dryer as well as the electrical cable. They did not have the terminal block I needed but they did have the power cable for the dryer along with cables for a range stove. They appeared to have a lot of lumber to choose from as well as some great prices on clothing items. The staff was very helpful from the moment I walked in. I ended up walking around and checking the place out to see what they had and was very impressed at at the home decor and remodel/repair items in stock. They also had a huge selection of tools, lighting and more. It was very open and clean as well.

We were wrapping up a patio project and needed additional patio pavers. Their price is comparable to the big box stores BUT they load them in your vehicle! You choose your paver style, pay for them and drive around back for loading.

Very tired of explaining that Im going in to look. I feel like I cant go in just to look. I work in the area and would like to pop in to see what they have to get ideas without people constantly breaking my train of thought just to ask me what Im looking for. But Im just looking is not accepted as an answer. One guy approached me asking what I was looking for from 3 aisles away. I said I was just looking and he forced me to tell him what I was looking for by saying nah, come on, tell me. I felt like I had to come up with something like I cant just be in there to look! So I said mouse food (I had been curious if they had it before and another employee already said they didnt at this visit) even though I knew the answer. The guy couldnt hear me and I had to say it 3 times. It was stressful and a waste of my time to go in. I now understand why people shop strictly online.

This is the worst home improvement store. Never enough help. Never enough cashiers. Selection is mediocre. Today they had buckets in almost every aisle catching roof water. And, it hasnt rained here for a few days. NOT going back. Ever.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Sometimes its a little difficult to find things, but if you can locate a team member they generally know where it is.

Fresh fruit Friday was great! Very helpful associates and I got some black oil sunflower seeds for the birds too. Only spent about $21 all together.

Mixed feelings. Great because they are close and convenient. Usually, but do not always have the products/variety Im looking for as in the larger stores. Even with that, I would love for them to be my go-to local every time, but darned if I dont feel under appreciated as a customer about half the time I shop here. Really, it goes from friendly/helpful to not - on a consistant basis and I have been a customer here for years. I keep trying.

As usual Sutherlands runs an ad for items and by 10am they are sold out. Disappointed that the $7.99 hanging ferns were gone and NO RAIN CHECKS. Maybe they will have some for Mothers Day, I was told. That will be another rat race. Not worth the wait or fighting the crowd.3 Stars only because the gentlemen that assisted me were so friendly and helpful.

Went to their basket day. They shouldnt release all their basket to the earliest people unfair to those of us that cant get there at 6am. It would be nice if they had a mid morning release of the coveted lantana and not have so many petunias. But, that being said I appreciate them doing this. Gives those of us who cant afford 10.00 a basket a chance for flowers.

Complaint for one of their subcontractors- Since their subcontractor has no online or social media presence, with the exception of their website stating that they are the storage building provider for Kansas Citys Sutherlands locations, this review reflects the type of workers representing Sutherlands.I saw a YouTube video of one of their trucks clearly marked Black Arrow Builders using an on ramp to pass on the right at high speeds. The youtuber states that he called and the company would not take a driving complaint. There is an audio of that call, and they were more interested in the callers vehicle, never once got the complaint information or even asked what the traffic violation was. I saw the video and it was clear that they dont care about safety of others. They flew past a car with 2 infant in the back, in the video they zoomed in on that and the logo on the truck so it was very clear. I would never use them, I can not recommend them and shame on Sutherlands for allowing them to affect their image.

I like Sutherlands. They carry many of the specialty items the big box stores dont. It still has that local hardware store feel

Very convenient when you cant make it to Hope Depot. The people are friendly and its clean enough and things are easy to find.. but when someone needs a board cut, why do they charge for that when Home Depot AND Lowes dont. That should be a convenience for the customer. Other than that, they are alright.

This little place kicks butt and has decently priced tools and material. I especially like their bagged concrete mix.

The attached at Sutherlands is very knowledgeable and willing to help. Their rewards program is awesome!

I went to Southlands in Waldo and they did not have what I was looking for. The one I. Raytown had many options, but its also a much larger store. Staff is friendly at the front, but you have to go up front most of the time to get helped

I have shopped here 5-6 times and have experienced very poor customer service every time. The employees are not proactive in asking if customers need help and usually just hang out in groups and chat. The last time I was there, we spent 15 minutes in the paint section before anyone came over to help, even though 6 employees were just chatting no more than 10 feet away. This is a poorly managed store with mediocre prices. I highly recommend traveling the extra distance to Home Depot.

Was in the Waldo Sutherlands yesterday waiting for keys to be made. This gave an opportunity to do some shopping. Found a ladies jacket but sizes were limited. A manager & employee were building a new display. I simply wanted to know if they had any more or would be getting more in the future. They obviously could not be bothered with me as I stood in front of them for several minutes waiting for them to finish their conversation. The manager finally said what do you need? When I asked about the jackets he promptly cut me off & said no more jackets -thats it. Not maybe another store.... many things could have been said except what do you need? Really? Just extremely rude. I will say the female customer service rep who made my keys & checked me out couldnt have been nicer. I think some of these guys could take an example of how to treat a customer service from her!

For hardware and odds and ends and garden supplies, I like them very much. They remind me of some old hardware stores from years ago. However they do a very poor job of taking care of the plants and flowers they sell. I would go elsewhere for them.

I give it 5 just to balance the nonsense on this site. The 9-5 staff is very, very good - nights and weekend nights, sometimes you have to go looking for the guy/gal with a clue. They have about 80% of the stuff that a Home Depot has and the price is exactly the same. It is close, so no ridiculous drive back and forth with building materials. Paint Dept is truly great. Return policy is completely fair. Start there and then go up to a big box or down to a hardware if they dont have it.

As usual the products I wanted were not in stock or could not be found, and it was impossible to find any help. I wanted some 2x4 lumber, but what was in stock was of terrible quality--knotholes, bent, and crooked. Not one straight board was to be found. Rarely can one have a successful shopping trip here to get every day itens.

Found what I was looking for.

I went there for paint and all I had was a dried up can that had been in the garage for years. Apparently the formula thing had been damaged. They were able to match it perfectly and at a price better than the other big guys. They have helped me with many plumbing issues as well. Great neighborhood store.

Its rare I dont shop there wishing I went somewhere else instead. Today, I realized they dont sell pocket hole screws, which now has me going to one of the big stores like I shouldve in the first place.

Very friendly people that work there. And it is dog friendly. My daughter brought in her dog on a leash and they have treats for them!

Complete waste of my time. I called in, asking for a part, was told they have them so I headed over. When I got there the shelf was empty from the part I needed and some odd parts below that didnt help me. Go somewhere else for better service.

If you want to wait a lot, look for ten minutes for help and when you get help, they dont know what youre asking, come here.The same thing has happened multiple times. Go somewhere where they know what theyre talking about. I dont like to write bad reviews, but Ive had three or four bad experiences here and its always the same.

Sutherlands is an excellent Mid City Hardware store with an indoor lumber yard. Their employees are very knowledgeable and helpful and when you go in there every couple of days they know you by name.
