I came to this restaurant not knowing what to expect. This is the type of restaurant that you order at a counter. They pretend to be fancy but this style of service means, once you order, youre on your own. So if theres an issue with your order, youre out of luck. I was the only customer when I arrived and the food came out in a reasonable time. It looked amazing, but the taste of the fish was bad. It was very squishy sand I think it was spoiled. Id be wary of this place.

What a great find for lunch! There are so many things I loved about this spot. First, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Its fast casual yet very comfy with great seating options. You can be as healthy or as bad as you want to be. Self serve iced tea and lemonade to boot, and the food was delicious! Cant wait to come back so I can try other dishes!

All of the beef options are so good! Love the chimichurri sauce. Hefty portion sizes, one meal can easily feed two people unless youre super hungry.

Outstanding food and service. Everything not only tastes great but is like a work of art. Had the cedar plank salmon and my spouse had the crunchy chicken Bibb salad. Salmon was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Salad was nicely crunchy and not over-dressed. Couldnt resist the desserts...but only ate the chocolate chip cookie and took the rest home for later!

Excellent food and atmosphere. I enjoyed the generous chimi steak salad and my friends quiche and salad were also great. The baked goods are killer, and we both indulged in a generous amount of to-go calories. You do self-serve at The Russell-- get your own beverage, order at the counter, and then theyll bring your food to you. We arrived at 11:15 and it was not busy, but by noon there was a line to the door, but it seemed to move fast. The noise level is fairly high due to wooden everything and high industrial ceilings, although there is some seating outside, the traffic and construction on Main is a bit of a deterrent. There IS, however, free parking in the back which is a huge plus to those of us who dont love to navigate downtown street or paid lots. We will definitely return!

Brandon was absolutely amazing! We had a larger group come in and they were super amazing with answering questions and recommending foods. Food was fantastic, no complaints from the entire group! Veggie burger was phenomenal, but our one kids did find the kids pasta a little spicy, but other than that, absolutely loved every last bit!! Thank you so much :)

What a great gem that Kansas City has to offer with The Russell. This is not the first time I have eaten here and each time has been 5 stars. Well I would give them more if we had it. Honestly everything from the decor, ambiance, food and friendliness of the staff is on point. I was provided the number to call when I arrived. I called once but saw the guy with the 📱 talking and lifting wine bottles up to the counter.I waited until I saw him hang up the 📱. I called again. He walked out of view and walked back. He picked the phone up from the counter. Yes, the phone continued to ring on my end. Out of frustration I walked in and said, excuse me three times while walking towards the counter. There were at least 5 guys behind the counter but not oneThe owner, Amante contacted me after reading my review. He was genuinely concerned and desired to make my experience better. He chose this as an opportunity to create a loyal customer from a negative experience.We spoke over the 📱. Amante asked some great questions and then listened to my responses. The week of my birthday he personally delivered the most amazing grilled salmon dinner, replete with a fancy 🥕 🧁! I am truly impressed with his level of compassion, appreciation, and customer service!

We are from Chicago and been road tripping for 4 days! We where heading back home was going to skip Kansas City but my husband really wanted to come! I am so glad we did! I picked a place for us to eat at and the moment I seen the pics on google for the Russell we quickly drove over! The interior of this place is so amazing and the music is AWEEESSOOOOMMMMEEEE!!! This place is a whole entire vibe!! We had the Russell burger and it was cooked to perfection!!! I have never tasted a burger so amazingly delicious!! And the chicken.... I could cry right now!!! It was SO JUICY!! ❤️🌈🙌🏾 the prices are unbelievable affordable for what you get as well! Amante is amazing!! He came over and chatted with us and gave us some more places to visit! We will more than likely be coming back again to Kansas City just for The Russell!

I went to The Russell for the first time shortly after Christmas. Absolutely loved it, as did everyone in our group. The restaurant has a great aesthetic, with cool and quirky decorations that make it more interesting than your average lunch spot. The food is also much more interesting! I got the burger with roasted vegetables on the side. Top notch, and so nice to have that option instead of chips. Others raved about the salads and the tacos. They also had a nice selection of drinks and pastries. The service was super friendly and efficient. Cant wait to go back!

Hands down my favorite lunch spot. I love the way it looks and feels in here. The food is always so perfect. In 2019 I used them for my office holiday party. It was the catering service but we carried it out. Although I picked it up at noon which is the dead of lunch rush, two guys jumped from behind the counter to help me carry it out to the car. The presentation was amazing. I knew some of the guys on staff would question my choice this year as it was not carb and meat-heavy foods like they like, but after they took one bite they all told me how much they appreciated having a healthy meal and they all thought it was delicious. I was pleased by how many of them wondered where it was located so they could go there on their free time. This is also a good choice because I have one very strict vegan to consider. This menu was the least challenging to adjust for her needs. They even did a vegan stuffing which none of us realized was vegan when we ate it.

I had a really great experience at the Russell. The food was terrific. I had the salmon bowl and will get that again. Staff was very friendly and professional and the restaurant very clean spacious with a lot of enjoyable old school oddities placed for ambiance. Looking forward to going back. Lastly don’t forget to try one of the amazing cookies.

My son took me here for my birthday, and it was so good. The set up is a little different ; you order when you first come in and the server brings the food to the table. The menu only has good food so you can’t make a bad choice. We had the steak chimi sandwich, the steak was so tender and juicy. The hummus and olives was delicious.The restrooms are single stalls, so take your pick. They were pretty dark and the wash basins are outside In the hall(nice) no one can get away without washing because everyone can see you🤓They also cater, and make an impressive spread.

What a gorgeous restaurant! I went for lunch with my husband today and I just fell in love with the gorgeous dining room, the rustic decor and the delicious food. I enjoyed the brioche chicken sandwich, my husband had the steak entree and we shared a cookie. Everything was delicious. I cant wait to go back!

Highly recommend this trendy spot for new American fare for lunch or a casual dinner. The food is outstanding and the vibe is urban (but casual). We started with the olives and bread—they were fabulous and not JUST olives and bread—and had an amazing BIBB salad. We split the specials: shrimp tacos, a caprese sandwich, and gazpacho. All top notch! I especially want to give a shout-out to the staff for being so welcoming.

We finally went to The Russell for a private dinner party. The Russell is named after the flower shop of the same name that formerly occupied the location for years. The staff and chef did a wonderful job preparing a buffet of cheese, meats, vegetables, hummus, desserts and drinks. The grilled veggies were crisp and flavorful while the smoked meats were tender. The venue is down to earth with antiques and a farm feel. We look forward to going back for Saturday brunch, they only do brunch on Saturday and give the staff Sunday off.

I am 30years old and have never been compelled enough to by a restaurant to write a review. This restaurant is amazing. The flavors somehow seemed to mimic the rustic atmosphere of the restaurant’s design. The food felt wholesome and healthy yet, it didn’t sacrifice any flavor to achieve it. I literally got home and wanted to text the owner to tell them how much I loved eating there, but couldn’t so I started writing this review instead. Hope this reaches you, and to all the people reading this, eat here and you won’t regret it.

I’ve only had carryout here so I can’t comment on the restaurant, but OMG the food is so delicious! I had the Russel Burger (with a side salad) and it was one of the most delicious, juicy, satiable burgers I’ve ever had. Thick juicy burger, cooked perfectly to medium, with caramelized onions, Gouda cheese on soft brioche bun...oh, it was heaven! The side salad was also refreshing. You’ve got a new fan!

One of KC’s hidden gems. My favorites are the hummus, bibb salad, the burger, and nearly everything in the dessert case. I look forward to it and get it at least once a week. Everything always tastes so fresh and is full of flavor. My boyfriend leaves for half the year to play baseball and he hasn’t stopped talking about how it’s the first place we have to go when he gets back. I don’t write a ton of reviews, but if you’re in Kansas City this is a can’t miss spot.

The day was hot and I wanted something light and refreshing and decided on the Salmon salad with Miso dressing.Look, its weird to get excited by a salad. Went here on a date night and absolutely loved the experience! The restaurant was small, but the decor was quaint and the seating was intimate. Food was very reasonably priced and the presentation was absolutely wonderful. I wish I would have taken photos but the food looked so good that I didnt even think about it. Now the meal cannot only be aesthetically pleasing, it also has to be delicious. The Russell absolutely delivered on that as well. The food was wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. Im not one to generally go out of my way to give ratings or reviews on restaurants; however, I felt the experience recieved required it. I would highly recommend anyone reading this review to give this lovely restaurant a chance to blow you away as well. Cant wait to go back!

Ive been eating at this restaurant since it first opened. It gets better every time. Farm to table food that is so fresh. Heather the owner makes all of her dishes and soups from scratch. Today we had the meat and potato soup as well as the butternut squash soup. Fantastic! Do yourself a favor and stop by for an unbelivable meal and dessert!
