This place is great. Everyone working here was so friendly and answered my never ending onslaught of questions. I rented a Kona Rove one day and my Mom rented an electric Verve cruiser and we rode all around Juneau and Douglas on the roads and bike paths. Very bike friendly town and so gorgeous to just ride. A couple days later I rented a trek rail 5 electric MTB and hit all the trails around Juneau and Mendenhall glacier. The rail ate up everything I threw at it on the trails and the pedal assist was a game changer since there are some serious uphills everywhere in this town. Great bikes, nice people and close convenient walking distance from downtown where I was staying. Would absolutely rent from here again next time Im in Juneau.

We rented a tandem bike to ride to the glacier; the bike was great and the trail was great. I really appreciated being picked up at the ship dock, the mud bumper, the water, the granola bar, and the after hour drop off box. The ride was rigorous and exhilarating. Thank you for creating the best ride ever!!

We walked in for a bike rental with no reservation as we werent sure what we wanted. Caleb spent lots of time with us and was very patient letting us try out bicycles and got us completely outfitted. He even told us where to go with local knowledge of the roads. Set us up with spare tubes, pumps, repair tools which luckily we didnt need, even gaves us waters and granola bars. Really great guy and made a great Alaska adventure on the bikes.

My spouse and I rented a tandem for one day to bike to Mendenhall Glacier. The team at cycle Alaska were very friendly (some of the friendliest we encountered in Juneau) and made sure we had everything needed for a safe and comfortable ride. This included a tube kit in case we got a flat, bottled water, granola bars, helmets, and a locking cable. The bicycle was well maintained and we got a lot of attention riding the tandem around town! Also, It was cheaper than taking a Lyft around for the day.

Cycle Alaska has always given me great service! They have been extremely helpful to me over the past couple years. I spend a lot of time on the bike in Juneau, therefore I end up going to the shop quite a bit. Chris is a great mechanic! He is super easy to work with and has fixed problems with my bike a few different times.

I would highly recommend going to Cycle Alaska. All of their employees are extremely helpful whenever I go in there. They have pretty much everything you need in the small shop! And if they dont have something in stock they will order it for you. Chris and the other mechanics are very solid and have a lot of knowledge.

The end of season sales are awesome! Not being a knowledgeable “bike guy”, the discounts helped me stomach the initial sticker shock and I’ve been blown away with the performance and fun of a modern full suspension bike!! Absolutely zero buyer’s remorse! I really appreciate the quality bikes and bike-related accessories Cycle AK carries and keeping the inventory accurate on the website helps me get in and out of the shop with everything I want. The staff’s knowledge and excellent recommendations were also extremely helpful! Last but not least, I love the community involvement and the kids P.E. initiative to give children (and their parents!) a great excuse to get outside and exercise during these challenging times!

These guys were awesome. I called with an idea about the bike I wanted. They gave me a few options, one of which was not built. After some research I called back and the bike I was interested in was not built, but they offered to put it together same day. 1.5 hours later they had that bike and another option waiting for me to try. After quick test drive I was sold on the affordable Kona Lanai. The staff was very accommodating, helpful, and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend anyone who is in the market for a bike to check out Cycle Alaska.

Its great to have a stable, local dedicated bike store! Bikes Ive looked at have been the same price as Outside, ride-testable, but fully assembled, and without the expense and/or hassle of shipping or toting around to/from airports in a box. The selection may not be a big as Outside, but they carry what works for local needs and can often add a bike to one of their orders with no added shipping. Highly recommended.

I went on the bike tour excursion. The men who host you are very enthusiastic to help and inform you about the area. They also brought rain gear for all the guests and supplied us some water, snacks, and an opportunity to hike certain areas. My only critique would be that it would be nice if the tour included more wooded areas, away from traffic. Although I understand the need to keep the tour short for casual cyclists

UPDATE: I brought my bike to the Bike Doctor and was informed that the rim was strung backwards and was not safe to ride even with the rim that was way too weak for the internal gear and utility use. She warned me not to ride with my daughter and it was not safe. I paid a lesser fee because they sympathized my situation. It helps that another parent can understand that safety comes first. To whoever is responding to these reviews, I wish I received the same customer service in person as you do with your replies to these reviews. The actual rim was too weak (440 grams) but Cycle Alaska said it was 540 and I have it on voicemail- plus they wanted me to PAY for a rebuild because it was above the proper weight- which is not true. Who puts a $550 hub into a $29 dollar rim? And then to say to a customer “I don’t know if the spokes will keep breaking. Hard to tell.” Their motto is “...do the right job the first time, every time”. I’ve been there 4 times for the same job. How can you treat a loyal customer this way? I am very lucky that my daughter and I did not get seriously injured. In the future, as a parent and avid bike rider, please understand my frustration because I care about our safety and don’t hang up on your customers. Perhaps then people will feel valued and not just thrown away for a rebuild fee. I leave you with the idea that the rim and fees are a waste of time and money that could have been avoided. Please take accountability-How is good service So first I had a 11 speed internal gear Alfine wheel build - told the mech Chris I needed a “road warrior bike” - which a 11 speed internal gear is 550 dollars hub one of the best money can buy. So I asked for good hardware which Alaska cycles ordered a 29 dollar 440 gram rim (cheap) for a 775 back wheel ? So I started riding the bike and spokes started to break and I brought it in and they charged me again - the whole time blaming my riding for the failure- my Granma has biked for 70 years and never broken spokes? So I contacted theOriginal bike manufacturer and they told me that internal gears need plus 500 gram rims and usually he uses 600-700 gram rims for strength. When u told Alaska Cycles the claimed the crx-18 genetic rim was 540 grams and so I would need to source a Alexa ryde 700 gram rim myself and pay more for another rebuild. When I pointed out they lied about the original 440 gram rim they told me they were sorry they couldn’t help. These liars risked my life and my daughter who has a third wheel on my bike. It was very unsafe and could have been avoided if they had just checked what rim I had on the last hub ? All my bike rims are plus 550 grams and now my new hub has a 29 dollar rim - shabby work when they knew the utility use of my bike- plus they blamed me over and over which is why they need to have this review- made me feel crazy as riding for over a decade has never had broken spokes before ever......plus they won’t back up there work only saying it could happen again - I really don’t know ? Don’t trust rude liars with your safety- brought the high quality bike rim for rebuild at other bike shop where they have quality control- bikes are a blessing not to be cheaped or corner cutting

Just returned from two weeks in Alaska. My wife and I agree the day we rented bikes from cycle Alaska was the best day of our trip. The help was fantastic. They recommended when returning from the Mendenhall glacier to come back through the rain forest. So glad we did. Rental bikes came with water and granola bars. Thanks again! Especially to your employee from Holiday Utah. He was great.Peter

We were met before the placed opened and given our bikes. We were also given helmets, a bag of tools, hand pump, lock, and a spare bike tube plus some granola bars and water bottles. My bf and I were going to ride to Mendenhall glacier so we were also given a map and the person who helped us (sorry can remember his name!) gave us step by step instructions on the route and what to expect. We loved the ride (though it was a bit windy and arduous journey back). The bikes were in great working order and the whole place seemed well maintained. We definitely recommend this place and would come back if we are ever back in Juneau!

Excellent understates it. Better service than I could reasonably have expected. Good bikes that were well maintained. Very friendly and helpful about suggesting suitable bike routes which my wife and I would not have found ourselves and which made for a very pleasant trip. By the way, yes, there is a nice route for biking to the Mendenhall glacier, contrary to some reports I have read elsewhere. Patiently adjusted the seats for us, including multiple readjustments for my wife to get it just right for her. Supplied us with everything one might need, including spare tube and tool kit (and helmets, but thats an of course or I wouldnt have rented). Even threw in two bottles of water and two granola snack bars, which put them over the top to 6 stars out of 5 in my book.

Bought a bike and brought another to be repaired. Technician couldnt tell me where the cable inserted into the derailleur, but charged me 20 bucks for ? I took the bike home and fixed it myself with 10 min of youtube. Got the feeling that since I wasnt a hard core bike guy the manager was doing me a HUGE favor by even talking to me. They were busy, but I still felt like more of an annoyance than a customer. Got a decent deal on a new trek but due to attitude from manager and poorly trained tech will not go back. Place seems geared (pun intended) more towards tourists rentals and avid cyclists, not the nml cbj resident wanting to go for a bike ride.

Hooked up with these guys through a Holland America cruise excursion (bike ride to Mendenhall glaicer). So, I didnt personally pay them or make any arrangements, it was all prearranged through the cruise line. With that said ...They picked us up right on the dock and shuttled us to the starting location. On the way, a local dude talked to us about Juneau and gave us some history which was neat.At the starting location, there were about two dozen of us that hopped on bikes and started an 8-mile ride to Mendenhall Glacier. A guy lead the pack and another followed. More people got ahead of us in the van and stopped at intersections to direct traffic and make sure we got across safely. We finished the ride at the glacier and hung out there for about 30 minutes. Then they picked us up again an shuttled us back into town where we had some free beer (included in the excursion).I was very happy with this tour, it was very well done and organized. We interacted with 5 employees and they were all very nice and easy to talk to.

Theyre nice enough when you come in, interested in buying a bike. I came in with my Kona Stinky mountain bike (Kona and Trek are the only brands they sell), because my front disk brake was rubbing. They put it up on the bike stand, torqued on the disk and loosened my front brake and charged me $8 for less than 3 minutes of work. They said that if I needed any more assistance, Id have to schedule an appointment, about a week away. I took my bike outside and the brake STILL rubbed! Paid $8 for the lesson to not go there again. Ive been taking my bike to SS sound, where they are much more passionate about biking. SS recently added a front brake and necessary hardware, tuned my front derailleur and adjusted my rear brake on my road bike for $21. I had to wait a couple of days because their bike-specific guy was out sick the day I dropped my road bike off.I imagine that Cycle AK is so popular primarily because they are downtown, but I dont plan on returning even though I live close by.

While visiting Juneau, biking was our primary mode of transportation. We rented the Kona Mahuna 29er mountain bikes and put them through the wringer for three days and they did great, aside from a screw I ran over in the city. The rental package included a tube and tools so it was only a 5 minute inconvenience to pull out the screw and change the tube. The rental also included a biking map, lock and a bottle of water. The staff was really informative and friendly. My biking experience has been road biking up until this trip, and I definitely enjoy mountain biking a ton.
