I have been a long time customer of Northern Tool and have made many purchases over the years. Most of the purchases have been in the store (not online) since we have a store in Johnson City, Tn that is close to my home. Every store representative is good to work with but one gentleman (Rickey) will always go out of his way to make sure that I get my questions answered as well as to help me find exactly what I am looking for. He is extremely knowledgeable about their products and is always willing to help me with a very professional attitude. I have had good luck with the many purchases that I have made over the years and will continue to shop there in the future. I’ll have to admit that I usually try to find Rickey when I visit the store since he has been so helpful in past visits. I highly recommend this store and their employees. Thoroughly enjoy shopping there👍

I hardly ever post reviews, but I felt this was something that had to be put in writing. I went into the Johnson city store a few days ago looking for a very specific item that Northern Tools said they had online. After searching for quite some time with absolutely no one to receive help from, I came across your assistant manager, Darryl. Not only was this man rude and hateful, rolling his eyes as I approached him, he was also very quick to walk away from me when asked if he had this item in stock. With no other words said, I went straight for the door. Along the way, I spoke with the cashier, Pam, who was very sweet and acknowledged the fact that I was upset. She assisted me better than your manager. This is sad and VERY unprofessional. I have shopped with Northern Tools for many years, and never have I ever had such poor customer service than I did with Darryl. Others, including Pam, Josh, Emma and Christian have helped me in the past and have been great! But this one employee made me not even want to shop with you all again. Very poor customer service. Why is he an assistant manager if he doesn’t care about his customers???

I had a really awesome experience with the staff being knowledgeable and friendly both on the phone and in person. Huge selection of hardware and tools remarkably reasonably priced. Highly recommended this store to my family, friends and complete strangers. I will definitely be going back for their hydraulic press!!!

I just had a great experience with the guys at the Johnson City store while deciding on a tool box for my truck. Kevin F. and the crew were over the top in regards to customer service. He patiently let me try different boxes in my truck to really see how they fit. Who else would do that? Very happy with the purchase and the overall experience. I walked this store for 30 min before I was able to get someone attention. Once a stop a female she looked as if we were bothering her and didn’t want to assist. She asked another associate to assist we asked about the product online which stated was available in store. The response was I should have purchased online. I drove from Summerville area to store for assistance and this attitude makes me not even want to purchase from the company. Attitude and customer service means a lot and the store on Rivers Ave need retraining in theses areas!!!!

Traveled 40 miles to purchase a pump. Bought a 100 ft commercial hose as well. Travel 40 miles back to job site and discovered the hose had been slit by careless stocking clerk with a box cutter. Had to waste another hour to find replacement locally. Later in the week had to find time to travel back 40 miles to return defective product. Dingbat woman clerk asks me 5 times if I want to replace it rather than return it. Then dingbat runs a debit payment as a credit so I dont get paid back for a week. Manager said its my bank that delays my refund while the facts show hes lying. My bank says its not posted. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. TRACTOR SUPPLY OR LOWES NEXT TIME. NORTHERN TOOL IS NOW AT THE BOTTOM.I have spent thousands at this store over several years. NOT GETTING ANOTHER DIME.

I will never shop at this place ever !! I bought a drywall lift and didn’t needed it so I thought we’ll I will just return it. I looked up the return policy and never seen that they will do the return but I have to wait till whenever the check shows up. Talked with customer service rep and she said I will get it when I get it. So if you are reading this I would strongly advise not too shop at the Johnson City location because I know I want !!!

I have shopped at this store many times and know some of the employees by name. They are always frendly and know their products very well. This store carries very high quality tools and the best selection in Johnson City. Their products are sometimes on sale which makes shopping even better!

I enjoy going here . the only thing i don,t care for is when they have a sell they don,t have enough to supply everyone.

When I finally found help the young man had no clue how to answer my queations. I finally had to ask for a more experienced person. I feel he should have done this on his own. The person that was sent to help was knowledgeable and very courteous.

Went in here yesterday with my husband, literally watched us the whole time... I guess thats what we get for having tattoos.. even followed us out the door.. like a previous comment said not all people with tattoos are bad people. Some prices are okay, but harbor freight will always be our store, and theyre cheaper on more things too.

This review is regarding the Johnson City, TN location of Northern Tool. I shop here every now and then and everyone is ALWAYS so nice and helpful! How a store should be. I applied for a management position here and was actually interviewed today.. I was BLOWN AWAY by the comfortability of the interview. Job interviews are NOT my strong suit at all EVER! My anxiety almost cripples me in those situations.. This was NOT THE CASE! That store manager is everything a store manager should be! He was inviting and laid-back. Not intimidating at all. He made a typically uncomfortable situation comfortable and I felt I could be myself and be confident. I was able to answer all his questions without a single bump in the road! He has similar views to me regarding work ethic and morals and his friendliness just made this the easiest interview Ive ever had. I really hope I get this job as I could see this being a good thing for me as well as the company. Well see!!!

Horrible. That’s all I can say. Never order anything online. They won’t exchange it without authorization code even if you have receipt. Nobody in this store has any authority. I’m done with this store. I was on hold 30 minutes. 30 minutes of my life wasted.

Went in to get a pressure washer for some fall cleanup - all the staff i came into contact with was very helpful, clean building and knowledgeable employees.

So we went there due to a recommendation from the RV company. We went because our ac ac not working with the 2 current generator we have. We ordered online and when we got there we were told not to get the one we ordered and 2 people including an assistant manager told us to get the one we purchased. We asked several times are you sure. Because we were told the other 2 we own were told would work and didnt. Per there advise we changed to there recommendation ( did not buy the one we did order pick up) and guess what it didnt work. Then told us too bad it works you bought the wrong one. Should have bought what we told you. We said we did Manager Chuck said this works too bad for you. He then hung up. well we will see what my attorney and my credit card company says about that. Horrible. Customer service...

I purchased a $350 winch from northern tool in Johnson City TN yesterday paying cash for the item, in which they gladly took my cash. I went to return the unopened item for return today after deciding against installing a winch only to be told that I couldnt get my cash back that I had to wait 10 days for a check to be mailed to me. I informed him I wasnt told that when paying cash or I would have used another form of payment. He said its posted on the front door on a small sticker that nobody is going to stop to read . Buyers beware

The store is very nice. The associates are extremely helpful. Well stocked. Sadly, most of what they sell is Chinese garbage. You would appreciate my dislike of Chinese tools if you too mangled your hand when a wrench made in China breaks in half. There are numerous other examples.

Bought a pressure washer and countless other items therethere the years. Took the pressure washer in for repair and service (first time). Was advised well worth repairing, but when took back for a third time to replace a worn-out hose coupler, waited 30 minutes for some guy who had said he would assist to return in 1-2 minutes and say he could not unscrew the old one. No suggestion for remedy, just that he did not want to damage and have to replace. So after a $252 repair bill, I still do not have a working pressure washer. But after the rudeness I encountered from this one guy, I will be reluctant to do any more business there; a shame because they carry many products I use, but a rude and worthless service experience like that is hard to forget.

Took a Honda engine for Honda recall work on bad ignitition coils. The recall stated the coils would be inspected or replaced free of charge. When I went to pick up the engine I was charged $40.50 for labor. They said there was nothing wrong with the coils. This engine is new, never started, with a 3yr. Warranty, now they wanted $70.00 hr. to check it out. TAKE MY ADVISE, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.Larry Winston

I took a pressure washer for repair, THAT WAS WORKING but leaking, to Northern Tool in Johnson City, TN. All I asked for was to replace 4 washers where the machine was leaking. After one month, 4 washers and a manifold totaling $98, I received a call to replace the Pump at $238. I asked for the manager to discuss my grievance. I was told by the service person that the machine was NOT working at all. What the hell? Not at all? The managers reply to the machine not working and now it is junk . . . the manager stated how did I know if it worked when you brought it in for repairs. What great customer service. The customer is a liar. This place is typical service scam. Dont buy from or get service!

37 ton splitter problems with less than 20 hoursI’m a retired mechanical engineer. I needed a wood splitter to clear my property and for occasionally heating a work shop. I reviewed all brands of splitters. I selected the Northstar 37 ton because of the design features that appeared stronger than others. Nothern charged $100 for assembly and I had to buy hydraulic oil. Due to my age, I only use the splitter 2 or 3 times per year and only an hour or less at a time. I paid $2300 for unit, oil, and assembly. It had a 4 year warranty.Following is a list of problems.Wheel wobbling on the way home – retaining nut on one side was too loose, other side was too tight and hub was hot. Grease seals on both sides were damaged during installation. The rubber contact area was not touching the spindle. Since I didn’t think it would make it back to store, I bought new seals and replaced myself.Main hydraulic hose blew off during FIRST split. Hose clamp was not tightened. Lost half the hydraulic oil of which I had to buy ($60) and replace myself.No sealer on pipe fittings. Hydraulic hose fittings leak oil continuously. Have to refill too often.Originally split wood great and operated at good speed. Now operates very slowly with low power. Hydraulic oil is cloudy after use. Blows oil out filler cap.Control valve does not automatically reset when ram gets up to top and kills engine.I returned splitter to dealer to have checked. Manger informed me it was slightly out of warranty by looking at a serial number on the engine. He couldn’t tell me how long the engine or splitter had been in stock before being sold. He acted like I was trying to cheat them for asking them to look at it. They called next day saying it had metal shavings in hydraulic oil and the shavings had damaged pump and cylinder. They quoted $998 for new cylinder, pump, and labor. I told them NOT to fix it and I went immediately to pick it up. Unit was fully assembled when I got there. After getting home, I noticed none of the fittings or hoses appeared to have been moved. I removed all hose fittings and filter. There was so sign of shavings or water anywhere. I re-installed all fittings with proper sealer and refilled tank with hydraulic oil. It took an additional 2.5 gallons. There is something in the tank that hits dipstick and causes false readings on the stick that shows full when it is actually low.Summary – All problems can be attributed to improper assembly. However, the way I was treated at the Johnson City, Tennessee store was reprehensible. I’m just thankful that I decided to check things myself. I was a regular customer and have bought many tools and supplies at Northern.I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN ANY NORTHERN TOOL AGAIN.
