One of the best shops in the Houston area! These guys are like family. I went in a little less than 2 months ago not knowing where my diving adventures would take me and I instantly fell in love with not only the sport but also the staff. They helped guide me through everything I needed to complete my kit, and had the knowledge and experience to make me feel comfortable spending that kind of money. I’ve been to a few other shops and it’s usually quite an overwhelming experience, but thankfully these guys here had me feeling extremely confident in my gear and I’ve been diving even more confidently ever since. I’d highly recommend checking them out if you’re new to the sport!

I went to OTA looking to take a scuba course. The staff and instructors here are great. I always feel welcome and comfortable when I come here. They patiently answer all of my questions and concerns whether I drop by the shop or call in. The instructions are not only informative, they make them fun. I was originally considering waiting a couple of months before enrolling for the next level course. By the time I finished the first course I was chomping at the bit to get into the next course and I enrolled in it the very next day. After a few years of driving by there and saying one day I’m going to go there and learn how to scuba, I am glad I stopped in.

Avoid this shop:Terrible service at the counter. Slow to checkout. Have spent 45+ minutes trying to rent just two things. Not to mention, I have been screwed numerous time (by the owners!) by being given non-functional gear. Dead lights, tanks without o rings, etc.In addition, they will try to sell you gear that you dont need for every dollar you are worth. Extremely pushy and will talk at you for dozens of minutes. They wont answer your emails, they will leave you on hold (or just not answer) and overall wont treat you well. Jeanne and Morad do not run a tight shop.(EDIT):After posting this review the owner has called me and my family multiple times from his personal phone. Maybe think twice about giving them your cellphone number.

I recently took swim classes with Coach Rudy. I learned how to swim the old fashioned way, my dad tossed me in and it was sink or swim. Probably why I love SCUBA, I was great at swimming under water and mastered the doggie paddle. As an adult, I swallowed my pride and reached out to OTA for swim classes. Coach Rudy made me comfortable and focused on the points I needed to understand freestlye swimming (and breathing). I have had 2 classes, feel more comfortable than ever still practicing before I go back for my next lesson. I am so happy I took the leap and trusted OTA and Coach Rudy to get me what I need to incorporate swimming into my exercise routine!Thank you!!!

Scuba diving was something I NEVER thought I could mentally and emotionally do. I grew up with horrible ear problems and having 6 major surgeries. After falling in love with a scuba diver I decided I wanted that to be our hobby. Clearance from the doctor with the first step but even after that I was very unsure. It was not until I met Jeanne that I knew I was 100% sure I could do this. I coach for a living and I tell my athletes daily, Say you can! Jeanne made my process amazing. She was such a thorough instructor and stayed on me until I did each and every step precisely. I was certified in December and finally did my 1st open water dive in April. I was blessed to dive Christ the Abyss Statue in Key Largo. Thank you Outside the Asylum and Jeanne for the amazing training and confidence you gave my to do something I never thought I could do! Request Colton R. as your instructor if you can! Had an excellent experience learning from him! (5/5 stars)CAUTION: If youre taking advantage of the deal to buy your gear from the shop and get a discount on the course, the gear (snorkel, goggles, wetsuit, fins, boots) will cost you a minimum of $450, but easily gets more expensive. Also, I HIGHLY recommend you go a couple weeks in advance of starting your class. They were out of stock of many items which yielded nothing I got fitting quite right or being quite what I wanted. Do better than me, do your due diligence ahead of time so that you know roughly what you want, and go in far enough in advance of starting your class that you can ask them to order things if they dont have your size.

Don’t use Outside The Asylum Diving and Travel, Inc. (OTA) to book a dive trip. If there is a problem with your trip and it doesn’t go according to plan the owners of OTA Travel, Morad Hassan and Jeanne Cinquegrana, won’t provide any help with making arrangements to try and save your trip. Word of advice to divers…before you pay OTA Travel for your airline tickets, ask to see a copy of your actual ticket that shows the price as you may be overcharged like we were by a couple hundred dollars. We purchased 5mm wetsuits and a group dive trip to the Galapagos (2/22-3/1/2021) on a liveaboard chartered by OTA Travel. After arriving in Ecuador, the boat operator canceled the cruise. Instead of helping make alternate arrangements as should be expected from a travel agent, OTA Travel told us we should have purchased trip insurance from them. Unfortunately, trip insurance doesn’t return our lost vacation days to us.Since we were already in Ecuador, we still expected to go diving in the Galapagos and we expected OTA Travel to help with those arrangements. OTA Travel failed to provide any support and their only input was to tell us not to fly to the Galapagos even though we were at the boarding gate and on the 96-hour COVID testing clock for travel to the Galapagos. While trying to arrange something on our own, we realized the island we were on had limited options and limited flights back to the mainland, so we decided to return to Quito before we wasted anymore vacation. While rebooking our flight back to Quito we were required to pay for a second pair of return tickets even though we had already paid OTA $1050 for the 2 round trip tickets, Quito-Galapagos, which had only cost $664.94 and the return flight being refundable without penalty.Outside The Asylum Diving and Travel, Inc. (OTA) failed to provide a level of service that divers expect and should receive. If you are looking for a reputable dive and travel shop look elsewhere as OTA Travel will leave you to fend for yourself when there is a problem. I recommend booking with a professional dive travel agency.

Outside The Asylum Diving and Travel, Inc. (OTA) failed to provide a level of service that divers expect and should receive. If your trip doesn’t go according to plan the owners of OTA Travel, Morad Hassan and Jeanne Cinquegrana, will not provide the help expected from a Dive Travel Agent to make arrangements to save your trip.We purchased a group dive trip to the Galapagos on a liveaboard chartered by OTA Travel. OTA claimed they were not trip leaders, but they were using the “free” Trip Leader spots. Instead of helping make alternate arrangements to save the trip they told us we should have purchased trip insurance from them. Unfortunately, trip insurance doesn’t return our lost vacation days to us.We found an opportunity to join another Liveaboard charter while we were still in Ecuador and wanted to confirm that we could get a refund for the cancelled part of our trip. OTA refused and only offered to be our ”advocate” with the Liveaboard operator but OTA never contacted them on our behalf. We contacted the operator, and after discussion, they agreed to provide a refund. When we provided this information to OTA, they refused to provide any refund until the operator sent the money to them even though they likely had not fully paid the operator. When OTA received the refund amount, they further delayed payment by requiring a signed liability release before releasing the funds to us. Once signed, their bank would mail a check to us. Since we didn’t want a $10,000+ check sent via postal mail, we offered come to their shop, sign the release, and pick up the check. OTA refused and countered with “those are our terms”; any costs to change the delivery, including legal fees, etc., would be deducted from the refund; and, if we had an issue, they “refer you to our legal counsel”. Ultimately, I received the refund from OTA Travel’s lawyer. If you want to book a diving vacation through a travel agent and receive good customer service, I recommend against using Outside The Asylum Diving and Travel. There are many professional Dive Travel Agencies to choose from.

The bcd, wetsuit, regulator, mask & snorkel, booties, fins, & dive computer all continue to feel comfortable and work well. It all fits into a smart-looking dive bag for easy travel. Most travelers usually use the local company’s equipment during their travels, but it is so comforting to know that your own gear is reliable & fits well. Morad went above and beyond to correct the issue, first notifying me before the product arrived that he had made a mistake and then committed to do whatever was needed to ensure I was happy - which meant paying for me to ship back the incorrect watch and shipping out the correct one, even if it meant he had to eat some of the cost for the correct product. I’m happy to have the correct watch now and can’t say enough good things about how professional Morad and the OTA staff were. In that search I found Jeanne and Morad at OTA and was one of the best finds I have ever found. They helped me for my trip. They couldnt fix my dive watch in time for my trip though offered me other solutions (that my other dive store didnt) and were extremely caring and compassionate in the process. The first time I visited their store I saw they were doing their very first liveaboard to the Red Sea. I always dreamed of going to the Red Sea and I went on inaugural trip with them and have been back to the Red Sea with them since plus three different Cayman Island trips. They have all been superb. Jeanne and Morad go above and beyond. They cant always control what happens on a boat or with a resort, though from my experience, if they ever run into a problem, they fix it. I saw this on my second trip to the Red Sea. They were also awesome, when I decided to get married on one of our Cayman Island trips. They helped me work with the resort and get the wedding planned in a two-week time period. They didnt have to go above and beyond but they do because they are that type of people. They truly care and always do everything they can to make things right. My husband and I have two upcoming trips in September and December with OTA. We have no idea with Covid-19 if the trips will happen or if they will be postponed to the future. The first time I walked in to their shop Morad made me feel like we had been best friends for a long time. Anytime you ask him about gear he doesnt try to sell you his most expensive gear. He listens to what you want and what your eventual goal is then gives you a recommendation even if it means buying something he doesnt sell. Also, on several occasions Morad has offered to let me use his personal gear when I have wanted to try a new piece of gear.

We found Outside the Asylum while searching on line for a Read Sea diving trip. From the very first contact Jeanne and Morad where so professional, prompt, accommodating and open that it felt as if we have traveled with them numerous times before. The liveaboard diving trip was incredible and well organized. We had asked them to help us with extending the trip for on land sight seeing. They accommodated every request and organized an amazing second week. We saw sights as far south as the Aswan High Dam and north in Cairo. All well stringed together. I did not expect so see as much in a week. It was a trip of a life time. I would highly recommend them and will travel with them again. Thank you Jeanne & Morad for the lasting Egyptian memories.

Jeanne and Morad are awesome! They are very knowledgeable with the equipment and they always have your best interest at heart. It had been a while since I had been diving but they were right there during a trip to the Red Sea. Jeanne held my hand (literally) until I was comfortable. They both also helped me with my Specialty courses, and I was still able to enjoy my vacation. Doesn’t matter where you are in the country, they can help...believe me, they helped me while I was in another state! It’s a no-brainer, OTA is going to be the one stop shop for all of your diving and travel needs. Cool kids for life!!!

It looked ok in the shop but nothing had price tags and they are desperately trying to make a sale so when they are checking you out at the cash register it can come up to over 350$ and that is without a wet suit which can be a few hundred more and not just that but they are pushing hard for a sale and their limited time deals such as the sales they have are not deals they are full price. You can get the same thing on amazon for less than half price but since they didnt sell them to you they will find a problem with the item and complain the entire time you are taking the padi test. And most of the reviews are of some of their good friends.

Jeanne was my PADI open water dive instructor, and without her and Morads help I would still be sitting it out on the beach instead of blowing bubbles down under. I went from not wanting to get my hair wet to Honey, when/where can we go diving again? I was a very hesitant student, but they both offered gentle but firm guidance to get me past those fears and before I knew it, I was hooked. Thank you both for your expert instruction, and for not giving up on me!! I look forward to diving with you again soon!!

I stumbled inside the Asylum as they were listed as a Mares dealer on the Mares website. I was looking for Mares branded bungie straps for my fins. I called and they had exactly what I needed.I live south of Katy and this is the closest PADI dive shop to my home that I know of. Its a nice drive through the park. When I arrived, I realized the location is so new, the sign hasnt even made it up yet. So looking closely enough, I found it across from that ginormous U-Haul facility.I spoke to Jeanne and Morad, the owners. They were very knowledgeable and super friendly. They helped me get my fin straps. And while I was there, found a new mask and backup light for my dive to the Flower Gardens.Id recommend them to my buddies.

Just got my open water certification, thought I would check out some of the local dive shops to see what they have to offer and make some contacts. Found OTA on Google, within a few minutes of meeting Morad, you could tell he loves diving and getting other people into diving. Its not too often you meet people that truly have a passion for what they do. We chatted for a good bit and he got me even more motivated to get back in the water and go on more dives. Now I havent bought anything from them yet as I am new to diving and new dive gear is an investment. But when I do, I will surely be coming back to get my gear from Morad, have a chat and possibly sign up for his trip to the Flower garden or my next certification. Morad, thanks for taking the time to chat with a newbie.

Morad and Jeanne are very passionate about scuba diving. My gf was certified by Morad thanks to the help of them during the class and pool sessions. My gf had a hard time being in the water and she keeps either sinking down to the bottom or floating back up during the open water dive. Morad has been very patient with her and try to help her out not only as an instructor, but also as a mentor. He refused to sign her off after 2 days of open water session of the lake because he thought that she was not ready to go dive. He is extremely strict in training in a sense that he wants you to know the stuff and be safe out there in the open water. He thought that my gf was not ready to get certified and he was right! He offered her another lake session and willing to work with her until he thinks that shes ready to go. At the end, she got certified and we are thankful to have him as an instructor. No one told me to write this review, I am doing this to let everyone know how nice the owners are and if you are looking for a good dive instructor, come see Morad and you will not regret it. We need more people like them in this industry. Thank you Morad and JeanneGod Bless!

I took the PADI Open Water Course a few weeks ago and I did have a great time. This shop is brand new, but the owners have a ton of experience and they make things very easy for you.I had asked before in a few other shops, and I finally decided to go with OTA because it was the closest one to my place, but after taking the course I have only positive things to say about OTA.1. They really provide all the required material (including mask, snorkel and fins) if you are not sure you want to start buying your own gear (try first, decide later).2. They carry all the gear for you so you dont have to worry about tanks, BCDs, or anything... really you just need to show up.3. They are very flexible with the schedule... If you cant do the dive one day they will reschedule it at your convenience.Im looking forward to the Advance Open Water course!
