When Guitar Center came to North Charleston, I was nervous to see what would happen to local music shops like Ye Olde Music. Michael has run this business for many years with much success. Hes a fellow musician himself and some might go as far as to say a local celebrity. The advantage of patronizing such a store as his, is you get more than a great selection of gear. If he doesnt have it, he can order it from his distributor. Ive spent a couple grand here over the years and I can honestly say it was worth every penny.

Man, I wish I could give more than five stars! I went here because my longtime friends have been purchasing their guitars here for decades. I came in knowing that I know nothing about guitars and just wanted to get something nice to learn on and play for years to come. Originally seeking a Taylor 214e, but another guitar caught my eye and spoke to me. I called friends, asked their opinions as well as talked to staff and other customers. I was very unsure of what to do. Mike made me feel exceptionally comfortable with my purchase and said that I can come back within a couple days if it wasnt for me and hed give me my money back no questions asked. That gave me the confidence to go forward with my purchase. He gave me such a great deal on a 1 of 25 made Breedlove that I cant do anything but smile and appreciate what I have. Truly the best shopping experience Ive had and I will forever love my BEAUTIFUL Breedlove Tigers Eye. I start lessons this week with his in house instructor and I just cant wait to start making sounds as beautiful as the guitar I will be playing. Thanks again Mike, youve earned a customer for life!

The owner Michael, comes highly recommended, he won’t steer you wrong. He himself is a guitarist. I got a good deal from him for my son’s classical guitar. The discount was enough to get him a month’s worth of lesson from John Stockdale, a guitar teacher in his shop. John is an excellent guitar instructor too. He tailors his lessons to what his students’ need. Overall a very pleasant experience. I am glad i came to Ye Olde Music Shop, i would recommend these two guys to anyone.

I wish I could give a great favorable review like many I see on here because he seemed nice enough during the sale of the guitar. When I decided to return it a few days later, he was not happy. I did not want to have to debate with him the merits of the return. I just wanted my money back. At the time of sale, he had no problem taking my check. At the time of return I was very congenial but still, all of the goodwill seemed gone. My check had cleared his bank but he chose to not verify after my second trip to see him, and to not refund the amount at the time but supposedly send it to me later in the form of his check. Then he stated that I should not have bought the guitar to begin with. Not my ideal of good customer service.

I ordered a new Taylor 12 string guitar at Ye Olde Music and I would like to thank Mike for the price he gave me and his excellent customer service. I would recommend this store over ANY other place that sells instruments or other music related products. Good luck getting the kind of discount not to mention the personal one on one service Mike gives all his customers at other music stores, especially the corporate stores that will remain unnamed. I would also recommend having patience when you order a guitar that isn’t in stock because it will be worth the wait. In the end I would never purchase a guitar from anyone or anywhere other then Mike at Ye Olde Music Shop. I have gone into other places but at those locations you feel like just another customer with a number while Mike makes you feel like your part of the family.

These are some of the finest folks I have met in any music store and they are super knowable about their product. Their prices on guitars and cases are extremely fair and reasonable. These guys are awesome! I went to a large chain guitar store to get a button put on my guitar and they told me it couldn’t be done because of the way my guitar was built. I walked into Ye Olde Music Shop 10 minutes before they closed on a Saturday and they said it was no problem. They did it quickly and barely charged me for it. They were super kind and did a great job!

I live in Denver, CO and found this shop while looking for a local shop to buy a guitar for my brother in law who lives in Charleston. I wanted him to be able to pick it up and have a good experience all around. Feedback from him was great. Michael was very accommodating (best price, fast service) and my brother in law said the store is incredible with a great selection of nice guitars. Went in to buy just one guitar string (for cutting soap) and staff was nice and helpful and sold me 2 strings for a fair price!

If its good gear (keywords: good gear), Michael will have it. Or he can get it. Also he isnt into pressure sales (which is refreshing, compared to the big chain stores) and hell tell you what you need to hear rather than try to sell you something you dont need. Its rare these days, but its why so many shop there.

I am so glad I came here! After leaving Guitar Center where they said the guitar repair tech was out, we looked up this place. The gentlemen there were friendly, knowledgeable, fast and extremely cool! They changed my guitar strings quickly, and even encouraged me a bit when I told them I was just learning and panicked after popping a string. Will definitely come back through here on my travels!

I was recommended to check this place out by a friend of mine. I was in the market for a new guitar - nothing exciting, just something to that could be played as either an accoustic or an electric. During a vacation in Charleston SC, while my wife was dragging me to all the area antique and thrift shops, we stumbled across these guys. My favorite guitar shops are the ones filled with unusual stuff and the staff dont mind if you arent there to buy something on the first visit. We shot the bull and I played their Taylor Baby bass for a while, didnt wind up buying anything but had a nice conversation and had a great time ogling all the guitars. Great selection and super nice guys, will stop in again next time Im in Charleston for sure.

But not at Mikes shop!!Unique and vintage gear.The owner, Mike, is very helpful!!There is a seasoned Luthier on staff.The staff, in general, is very helpful, and they are NOT sloooow.And its on Remount, which is a great strip for authentic central American food. I go to the Orange Cuban truck almost across the street on Remout.

Musician friends as far as Orangeburg, but including Summerville and Charleston clued me into this great shop.The store owner is very knowledgeable and friendly. He asked me what set of harmonicas I wanted, and I said “the best.”He gave me three choices, and I selected the Hohner Special 20, which he had to order.I looked around at big-box music stores to confirm what he told me: his price was BETTER.I don’t really know how that works, you’d guess the volume in the store wouldn’t command that.My only guess is long-time relationships. His store is next to La Tapita, a Mexican bakery that serves a great lunch.I’m leaving this review because I’m headed to his store to by a guitar he recommended.I’ve checked online extensively for reviews, and it’s the buzz that it’s the best starter guitar for the money.I know he’s square on the price.

Took a guitar I just bought in to have the strings adjusted and have the guitar looked over. Tech took it upon himself to do a full setup including fret level despite me leaving written instructions to the contrary. It was a terrible setup with truss rod so loose it was rattling. In addition the guitar came back with a number of scratches. Michael stated the guitar came in that way and wouldnt do anything about it. Said his tech was the best while bad mouthing several other local guitar techs with stellar reputations. Told me he would refund the setup, a minimal offer considering the damage done to my guitar but he didnt even do that. AVOID!
