Communications Nightmare, long delays and overpriced services - If you decide to work with this company get EVERYTHING in writing! I sent a 1959 Colt Buntline to Custom Shop Inc over 4 months ago and specifically told them in an email the barrel was damaged at the end and it was also pitted. Was told to send it no problem we have barrels from a fire salvage if needed or will find one. Do not have my FFL so sent it overnight at $150 due to regulations. Received a call the following day that they received it and would send it to gunsmith for next steps. Month later received another call that they were still looking for a barrel... two months passed and the owner calls and said they are sending it back! NO WORK performed and they did not want it laying around anymore. Reviewed the background and told me the fire salvage was another caliber and they did not have a barrel. It takes 3 months to come to that conclusion? Finally agreed to look for a replacement barrel and will update me. Couple weeks later receive an email with quote for OVER 4 times the value of the gun. Invoice included inflated replacement barrel cost, installation, gap check and another line item to refinish the old barrel and pitting that was being replaced? Called and said I was not willing to pay that much so immediately get a call with attitude from owner that I was not willing to pay them after all this work they went through. Agreed to send back the gun but want to charge me for shipping again. Called back within the hour and talked with the manager Devin and said I would pay for the barrel and cost to install it and eliminate their costs. Do not re-blue it and will live with 80-90% restoration and have a working gun again. The owner would not agree to do ANY work. So I payed $250 in shipping, they had the gun for 4 months and they will sell the barrel on their website instead of working with the customer. This is another reason why they have such a low customer rating. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS COMPANY!

Louie called me last night to tell me my Python was done and that he had finished it personally. He also stated that he had replaced a pin that was wrong for free just because he wants the gun to be as pristine as I want it to be. He did the Wiley Clapp 3 conversion and now hes done my 3 conversion. I dont care if it letters or not with Colt. If its good enough for Wiley Clapp, its good enough for me. I just wanted a 3 Python for a reasonable amount, so I sent them my very first Python that I bought in 1982 so it will be period correct. Louie said Devin, the shop mgr., would call me today to arrange payment. I can hardly wait. I have to LOL at some of these guys that think this is a LGS and they should just let them wander around and browse.

I paid a premium for a Sedgley Springfield listed as original and complete. Upon receipt and inspection the trigger wouldnt work. I noticed a red tint coming from the raceway and to my surprise, there was a brand new Timney trigger; did R.F. Sedgley have access to CNC technology in 1929?I talked to Jersey Shore on the phone and he said they knew about the trigger and had all the replacement parts and would mail them to me, which after a month I still have yet to receive.A word to the wise, when buying online create a folder and store the complete listing and all of the photos so you have proof in the event something like this happens and PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD. Credit cards offer buyer protection more than a check or money-order ever will. You could say sold AS-IS until your blue in the face, but that looses its weight when you mis-represent a product. The rifle is a pleasure to look at and I enjoy doing so very much, I just want my parts so I can put it back together.

I (along with one other individual) find and arrange the purchase of specific firearms for a select group of collectors. I found a firearm listed on their website that fit the bill. I called and talked to a gentleman that seemed interested in my query. I asked a few very specific questions regarding the firearm. When the gentleman answered the most important question, he hesitated and didnt sound like he was sure. I asked the question again and then asked him if he was sure. I took a risk on it. When the firearm arrived, I was disappointed. His answer was exactly opposite of the facts at hand. It was a consignment item and they dont accept returns on consignment items. Exercise extreme caution with this dealer. I wouldnt recommend buying anything from them that you didnt see in person. Could just be a new guy that doesnt know what hes doing. At any rate, they are definitely on the no business from us list. Too bad. Also, you should expect about $90 for shipping and insurance for a single long gun.

Stay well away from this bunch! Sent them my Python to be re-timed and inspected.....it came back and miss-fired every other round! It performed better before I shipped it to them. They refused to pay return freight to check out what had gone wrong and in essence flipped me off on the phone. So if you value your Python....send it to Frank Glenn in Phoenix. He knows what the hell hes doing.

Edit: I was happy with the work done on the below Python and decided to send them a Winchester Model 70 project I wanted finished. The rifle was sent in mid March of 2020 and was told the project would take 4 months or less. Covid hit and things got pushed back, I completely understand this was out of everyone’s control.Communication between the shop manger and owner must not exist because I was told several different things from both of them. I was scolded by the owner for being told the rifle was done when it wasn’t. I believe the completion time was pushed back about 4 times (well into October/November 2020). Finally I got to a point it was past my scheduled hunt and I quit calling or asking. Received the gun back in late December. I never should have given them cash upfront. Now on to the rifle, the checking was completed wrong (owner blamed the stock-maker) and they had to file or sand the stock down to have the checkering recut. The rifle tang is now protruding above the stock and looks terrible. The checkering pattern was not what we discussed and is different from what I wanted. Several light sandpaper scratches were left in the stock on both sides of the receiver. I will say the bluing was nicely done and the stock inlay work was great. Unfortunately, that’s all I can say positive about this experience. The Custom Shop (or people he sources work from) made several errors and instead of doing the right thing and talking to me about the issues or restocking the rifle they just put out an inferior product. I talked to the owner and he just wants to give you a line of bull. I should have disputed the final payment on my card. Lesson learned I guess. I absolutely would not do business with them again. I’ve spent over 5K just on restorations with them and they’ve lost my business. For the record, this was a complete restoration. Rebuilding a complete rifle, I picked a stock blank they milled and fitted to the rifle, finished and checkered the stock, reblue the entire rifle, ebony forend tip added. This was not a cheap project. I’d steer clear if you want your gun done. Go somewhere else. I’m giving two stars only because they did a nice job on the Python. I’d give zero stars on the rifle build if I could. Way to many things went wrong.Original post: I sent them a Python to have the original finish put back on. They exceeded my expectations. They did a tremendous job. Their customer service was very attentive and a pleasure to speak with. I would do business with them in the future.

I had inadvertently placed 2 orders online for same item, i was contacted immediately, by the owner, to clarify, opposed to just running the sale through, i really appreciated their quick respo se and pleasantness, to resolve the matterEven though my conversation was brief on the phone, they reached out to me, you could tell she was genuine and cared, ive been focused on another item, and will order it as soon as i can, I was very surprised at the amount of help they took to resolve this issue given the low cost of the item I purchased and the amount of time spent on their end. Bottom line, they re honest, caring shop owners, I will do business with again! Pleasant to deal with. Im happy and my item was received undamaged, in a day. Thank you, keep up the great customer service, love watching the show GUNFATHERS on OUTDOOOR CHANNEL TOO.

I have watched several episodes of the GunFather. Really enjoy the program and the fantastic shop that has obviously had a lot of thought and money put into it. If you watch the program, you would learn that Louie has a very specialized shop, hense, custom. Last January 2018, I met Louie and his wife at the Shotshow; great people! I told Louie I wanted to stop by his shop on a roadtrip I am planning. Louie made sure to tell me to call him first so he can be sure to be there. People who drop by 4-5 times to shop are slow-learners. Louie does care, that is why he and his family have the custom gun shop and want appointments; its not a traditional gun store manned from 9-5 for people just to browse the inventory at their leisure, seriously, learn!

A business that is open by appointment only. Obviously they think theyre doing us a favor opening up for you to look/buy instead of realizing they need customers more than we need another closed gun store. Or do they? Apparently they film a tv program here, that no one has ever seen or heard of. and Im beginning to think thats the only reason this place exists. It sure isnt to make sales. I have been by 4-5 times in the last few years and they have NEVER been open. I have better things to do than make appts. to look at or buy rifles. Obviously they dont care. Ill stick to ordering rare/custom rifles from people that WANT to do business.
