Had just purchased a vehicle which was not in the condition the dealership stated. The car came with a warranty. I called pep boys and spoke to Danielle who answered all my questions about how they worked with warranty program. On day of check up Larry one of the service reps walked me through process and what was wrong with vehicle. He called the warranty dept and went out of his way to make sure they got what they needed to process everything. After the warranty company started to fight him on what they were going to cover , his manager Bert stepped in and made sure they knew that the customer was right and they needed to cover the work. I may have spent the day here but the whole team went out of their way to make sure the job was done and I didnt pay a penny out of pocket. Ill definitely be coming back to get my service done here in the future with any vehicle.

A few weeks ago while driving with my family to Maine (from NJ), I stopped in because of a grinding noise I started hearing (turned out to be a pebble stuck in one of the brake mechanisms). I was a bit nervous because I had no idea whether the problem was a serious one and we needed to get to Maine by end of day. I could imagine the worst-case -- a day or two to get parts, hotel stay, miss my sons first college homecoming -- all bad. All three employees with whom I interacted were very friendly and attentive. They took care of me and got me out of there quickly despite being pretty busy. I really appreciate it!

My experience was nothing but phenomenal. Larry was fantastic and one of the nicest people I have met since moving to New Haven. I had my catalytic converter stolen, and he was fantastic about getting me in and getting it fixed. I will definitely be returning to this location in the future for future oil changes and so forth.

Larry, Larry, Larry!!To make a long story short my mom who is not in the best state of mind needed her car fixed and Larry held her hand the whole way. He made sure she received fair pricing, he treated her with dignity and respect. His patience and genuine concern was refreshing. My mom wouldn’t stop saying how nice he was to her. I walked away feeling like I could trust him to care for her vehicle whenever she needs service. This is the ideal experience as a customer. My mom “ rose” will continue to see Larry for all her car needs. Sharon was also very helpful in the process.

If this review prevents one person from having their money stolen by Pepboys it will be worth it. They are inexperienced and dishonest. They will take your car in and during their inspection something will go wrong with your vehicle. They make sure that what they say is wrong will make you uncomfortable and unsafe driving your car, so you wont take it out and to another mechanic, for example, they will say your brake line is cut, or your engine blew up. Then they will charge you an exorbitant amount to have it fixed, however the jobwill be done halfway, when you come back to complain, they will fix the problem but only for more money. I took my car to another mechanic and after paying them thousands of dollars it was determined that the work they did was unnecessary. The additional work that they wanted to charge me $1000 for was really a fuse that they blew. (Less than $5 dollars to fix) Times are tough, people are hurting and organizations like Pepboys take advantage. Please DO NOT bring your vehicle to Pepboys. I have contacted the DMV and the BBB.

I went today for a metal piece that went through my sidewall and have roadside hazard warranty. It was a little frustrating to start as I was told I couldn’t make same day appts. I went down anyway. Once there I was able to speak with Larry and he did a great job! He was able to get my tires and mount them while I was there with minimal waiting. Larry had great customer service and cares about the customers.

The people who work here are incredibly kind and good at their jobs. On my way to be with my grandmother as she died, my car broke down. Something was watching over me because even though it was Sunday evening and most places were closed I called here and Shannon picked up. Shannon, Scott, and Zach went above and beyond to get my car back on the road night. Because of them I was able to hold my grandmother’s hand and thank her for the big love she gave me my whole life. Diagnosed a problem then proceeded to not fox this issue at all. When I asked what was wrong with the car’s tire they had no idea. They charged me for a tire patch and never patched the tire. Once I made them aware they checked out the tire. Came back and said a patch won’t fix the tire it needs to be fully replaced. Invoiced me again for a new tire. Actual invoice was double the estimate. Never going back. Avoid this Pepboys. Terrible customer service. Management and techs are ineffective and clueless on their best day

I came here to mount some tires on my 2016 Mercedes Benz. Unfortunately, I chose and brought in the wrong size tires for my car. The manager informed me of this and gave me a AMAZING deal on 4 brand new tires, balancing and alignment at the shop, same day. Not once was he pushy or salesman-like. Im very satisfied with my experience here. They bend over backwards to make things happen for their customer in a timely manner. 4 tires and alignment at the Mercedes dealer would have cost over $2000.I saved over $1,000. Would trust them with my vehicle again.

I scheduled an appointment for an oil change over the phone with Larry today for 5:00pm. When I arrived, a lady named Shannon told me that I did not have an appointment. She asked Larry if he remembered speaking with me, and he told her that he did and that he just didnt enter the appointment in the computer.I left Pep Boys at 7:30pm tonight because they treated me like a low priority walk-in. It took them two and a half hours to change my oil. Shannon was nice enough to give me a 25% off coupon, but I will never give Pep Boys my business again. Id give them zero stars if I could.

I work in this plaza, so Im there all the time. My Navigator is at Pep Boys, which is in this plaza also, it broke down about three (3) weeks ago in this plaza at FRIDAYS. Pep Boys is next door so I had my Truck towed to them, only because they were close. Turned out to be a great decision. I got off on the wrong foot with Larry, the man in charge. I called before I had my truck sent there to make sure they would have time to tell me what was broken. Larry said theyd be able to bring it in within the hour and tell me the damage. They got my truck at 10:50 a.m. They didnt bring it in until the next morning. LSs Larry more than made up for it. The work I got done to my truck was $5,500 out the door. Larry discounted parts and labor down to $2,400. The discount was so great I brought four (4) new tires. I let Larry choose the tire, he chose a bigger tire than the factory tire and discounted the price. I paid $649 for four (4) NEW TRUCK TIRES!!! 😊😊Ill recommend Pep Boys in Hamden on Dixwell Avenue any time. If you go there, tell Larry, Joel, with the Lincoln Navigator, sent me. If I could give zero stars I would. Had an appointment at 9:30am for new tires did not get my car back until 2:15pm, I went to my vehicle my interior lights and headlights were on turned my car on and the battery light was on, my brakes squeaking very loud, I called to ask about my battery light and brakes, was told to bring the car back when I returned with my vehicle I was told that I needed a new battery and they had to jump it to move it out the bay and I didn’t have to jump it to bring there just for tires, and that a new battery and installation would be $198 robbery so I bought the battery, and was told my brakes was rusty in which rotors and brakes was replaced in April on my vehicle after I said that I got nothing but attitude and rudeness and the run around about my vehicle on top of that they broke a stud and cross threaded a bolt on one of my tires and said nothing about it just let me drive off, so now my alternator is no good couldn’t move my car left my car another day the next day I was told that they was not going to work on my car and they would have it towed to another shop of my choosing at a reasonable distance I asked for a copy of all the print outs pertaining to my vehicle and the manager told me he didn’t have to give it to me. I went for tires something simple and ended up with no car for days and a disaster. MY ADVICE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! Save your money, time, and sanity! Took it to another shop and was told my alternator was unplugged and was just not plugged back correctly unbelievable. Called corporate and the district manager returned my call and I was told if I called the police to the shop they would no longer help me. Towed someone else’s vehicle to the shop not mines so now it’s Saturday and I still have no vehicle

They need honest staff who dont steal money from customers, I went for an oil change for my jeep liberty and they didnt change the oil filter but they charged me for it and I have proof.I went to complain, I spoke with Store Manager Service ENGELBERT ANDRADE, they checked the oil filter and it was true they had not changed it they had to do everything again: that is a shame for (pep boys). The problem I have is that I no longer trust them. Im going to give them 2 stars only because Manager Andrade apologized and had the job done again. But again I say that I no longer trust them.I took the pictures 24 hours after they supposedly did the job.

I made an appointment for 10am to have my AC serviced. Came back at 1230pm and they still didnt even look at my car. When I asked what was going on they said the were having a problem with their machine, yet they never informed me of anything. The man man behind the counter had an additude when I asked why wasnt I informed. I wont be going back that is for sure.

HORRIBLE experience. No one knows where things are - staff is completely disorganized/no one talks to each other. Ive been sitting here for over 2.5 hours to get TWO tires put on.... When I kindly asked for an update, I was given such an attitude from an employee about the people who have been waiting longer than me.. unacceptable. I will neverrrrrrrr be back.

I have been to many different tire places and two years later moving to Hamden area, I started going to Hamden Pep Boys and purchased my tires there. I hadnt had any problem until today and when I had problem with the lug nuts I have purchased 4 months ago LARRY have replaced them with the new ones and didnt even charge me for the tire change at all. Mistakes and happen problems can occur but LARRY knows that customer satisfaction is EVERYTHING. I will keep taking both of my cars over there and will be purchasing my new set of tires there. If you are in the area you should visit Pep Boys because there are not a lot of shops like there around to take care of you. Best wishes and hope to see you in my next service need!

Absolutely awful service. Every time I have gone into Pep boys in Hamden there has been an issue. Anything from items being priced incorrectly to the lack of knowledge by there employees. With the exception of one of the managers who seems to have it figured out. Everyone that I have had to deal with it either new and improperly trained or just simply doesn’t have a clue. I will never in my life spend another penny at PepBoys in Hamden

I was helped on 9/15 by a gentleman named Larry who was very polite and accommodating when I came in. He helped me set up an account with pep boys and overall was a pleasure to work with. However, as I was going to pay for my services, another gentleman named Englebert came over to where Larry was and decided to tell him that he didn’t like the way in which he handled something and told Larry that the store “had no problems while you were gone” (I take it Larry was off for a few days). I was appalled that he would say this in front of myself, a customer. It was extremely inappropriate and rude. I would like to commend Larry once again for being great and helping me out. As well as for handling Englebert’s nasty comment with professionalism.

They seems always very busy. I was said 1-1.5h to be done changing my vieches battery, which was much longer than I expected. So asked him to call when its done, yet never ring.I showed up store after 1h+ to get my car, the stuff told me just wait. He was very busy which is understandable, so I wait a little but I had to go work, and asked him again, he looked annoyed :/ I saw my key on the counter at same timing, he was just surprised and told me its finished. He gave me my key, and apologized lightly, so I was fine.But today, I called to ask price for oil change. He gave me average price, not check the price for my car. Boom! I took my car to Pep Boys in Hamden, and they took care of my car needs at a reasonable price. All my car issues solved with one appointment. Service was fast, and the staff was entertaining. I met the owner Mr. Oulette a few months back and he said that my car is in great hands. You better believe that it was. All employees are courteous, knowledgeable and quick to help, no matter the issue. I asked questions and just like that, they gave me answers. Shout out to Angel, for doing my oil change. Being in HR, we interview, we grill, we research. I came in for some other car needs and he helped me back then too. FYI, the place is clean (even the bathrooms) and they are following Covid-19 protocals.Im all about the discounts, coupons and saving money.. Arent we all. Here is where I get the best price for my car needs. No need for me to bounce around hoping that a technician can google the answer on the spot.If you read this review, make an appointment. Trust me, you wont regret it.

Average auto parts and service. Nothing the employees do or say makes you feel confident in there knowledge of parts...ask them a question about a specific part..they flip it over and start reading ..i already did that! If they dont know about the part , the correct response is I dont know , let me find someone that canI bought four new tires at pep boys and had them do the mounting , balancing and mounting. The next day , i came out of my house and two of the four tires were almost flat ????I got my compressor and inflated the back up to proper pressure. I drove right to pep boys..they pulled the car in and found that the tech that had mounted the tires , neglected to remove a 1/4 x 2 dacal /label on the bead of tire were it meets the rim/wheel. This created a poor seal and allowed air to escape. What a pain in the azz...i asked the manager how does something like this happen? if you cant install tires properly, how can people trust you to do brakes ??I no longer trust them. I would rather pay more and have peace of mind !

Scheduled an appointment for 2pm for a simple oil change and they did not finish until 4:30pm. We couldve spent only 20$ more at the Ford dealership and get oil change done in a fourth of that time. Trust me, spending more is better than sitting around for hours for something that shouldnt even take an hour. Go somewhere else. Dont waste your time here.

If I could rate a zero I would for the service & tire department. Brought my car in and said if it wasn’t going to be a long wait I would come back another day. After an hour I asked the service guy how much longer and would t give me any info on what was going on with my car. Since I’m a women they kept brushing off telling me anything. Another hour passed and asked again still no information. Waited for 3 and a half hours just to be told the job couldn’t be completed. Will not be returning. If you love wasting your day come on in!

Worst experience ever at a Pep-boys Service Center. Had an Issue with the Shop Service Manager (Burt), this guy doesn’t have no experience dealing with customer service at all, rude, and he doesn’t take into consideration the client wishes or desires on which brand of tires to buy for you’re vehicle. If it wasn’t for the rest of crew I would of left, and wasted my money some were else. These place needs a new Shop Manager ASAP. I should even give a star, but for the sake of the guys that work and took care me I’m doing it. They have to get rid of Burt if not there going to lose business.

I had problem with my car starter. Initially I asked them to check my battery but they are not listening and forcing me to change my starter before doing anything. At last I agreed and they didn’t even showed me the old starter. They didn’t even tried to start the car by knocking the starter after several request. What they want is to pay me for the starter. Now comes the interesting part, in advance auto parts, Autozone and NAPA I am getting the new starter for my Honda Civic less than 200$ but pep boys people told me they can’t match it and charged me 300$ + taxes for only device and for labor they charged me 236$. I was looking from the window the mechanic only worked for exact 45 min on my car still charged me for almost 2 hours. On asking about that, they pulled my car early in garage and no one worked on my car for almost 4 hours. After multiple queries they asked me to leave the car and get it next day. As I didn’t moved they asked some another mechanic to change the starter and it took not more than 50min to be precise but still I payed for almost 2 hours. Altogether I payed 700$ in total out of which 52$ is tow charges and rest is to change the starter. When initially I asked them to check battery, they said they will first change starter and check later .l. They told me battery is good and charged as well. But they charged me charged 15$ for battery recharge . If I have went to NAPA or near by I don’t think I will end up paying more than 500$. Pepboys Hamden tries to loot as much money as possible from customer. I have started going pepboys in March, this was my 3rd trip and hopefully last as each time I end up paying much higher rate as shown or discussed initially. If you want to save money try other auto cares in Hamden

If you are considering going to this Pep Boys for service, you should be careful with regard to your timing. We were quoted two hours for changing tires today. So we waited. It took close to five hours. Not only have we lost a Saturday afternoon, we also had to cancel dinner plans at the last minute. This could have easily been avoided with a more accurate estimate.

Had an 8 am appointment. After 2 1/2 hours of not getting the new tires put on we complained. After 3 .15 hour they finished. Tried charging for an alignment without any print out of it. ( ran out of printing paper) Yea right. We said No record, no payment. So they took the charge off for the Alignment. What a terribly run business. Do not recommend nor trust them. The woman prior to us had a sport car that she wanted a rotation and balance.. They drove her car around when they were done and said it was to test drive it after an alignment which she did not ask for. She refused to pay. They did NOT test drive our car after a supposed alignment. So Im not sure what their policy is but either way they are shady!

Drove in shortly before closing on a Saturday night with with a broken alternator. We were traveling through and still 5 hours from home. The manager on duty made sure we were all taken care of and safely back on the road that evening. These guys saved our butts. We were on a long road trip on a Friday night and heard a loud rattling noise coming from under the car. Their mechanics had gone, but their service technicians were able to take a quick look and verify the issue. After a quick, safe, band-aid fix, we were back on the road and able to schedule an appointment with a car dealership service center the next day for the real deal fix. I went in for an alignment and asked for a rotation before getting the alignment. The service desk said it would be 1 to 1.5 hours wait, which is a normal timeframe. I waited 3 hours and they still had not touched my car!! I asked and they pulled it in and I had to wait another hour before the car was ready. They DID NOT rotate the tires and the car was still pulling to the right. Now I will have to go back and use even more time >:(

This company will soon go out of business, they over charge you for things that so simple but take advantage of you because your lack of knowledge when it comes to cars. Be very Aware and don’t let them convince you to purchase there services because it’s a joke. My headlights went out and all I wanted was to see if it’s either a blown bulb or fuse and the person there Continuously kept telling me it’s a electrical problem and that I would have to pay $135.00 just to let the technician look at it and if there’s a problem I would have to pay an extra fee for him to fix it. Are you kidding me , who makes up these prices they would never get my service and I would not recommend them to Anyone unless you like spending unnecessary money

I Called late Saturday because my daughters car broke down all of a sudden because of a broken serpitine belt so it had to be towed. This was the closest location (we do not live in the area) and I wanted to know if it could be fixed the same day and a very nice Omi said yes.We had it towed there but there was nother issue so Bert, the Manger, got involved and was EXTREMELY helpful. They made sure we were satisfied with our service. They were very honest and kept us informed with every step.The car is fixed and she is back on the road. We are very happy customers.The best part of the experience happened before Bert knew we were customers and that we had a car there for repair. This also demonstrateed Berts genuine character!My car would not start (it does this every now and then). and Bert offered a jump, he took a look at it and see if it was alarm or car starter etc. He did this without identifying himself as an employee but he did this out if the kindness of his heart as a good Samaritan.This has by far been the best experience in I have had with any car and I go to this Pep Boys ONLY!!

Terrible. Had a service appointment at noon that I booked online for four tires and an alignment. First they tried to give me a price that was four hundred dollars more than I was initially quoted online. Took them ten minutes to fix it; they had to take out calculators on their phones to do so! Then I waited. And waited. Took a walk. Came back. My car wasn’t taken in until 1:30! Again, my appointment was for 12:00. I waited some more in their waiting room and, around 2:30, asked the customer service rep, Larry, what was going on. “Oh yeah,” he said, and gave me a pair of safety glasses to go look at a control arm issue in my car. All that time, my car was sitting there and I feel like, if I hadn’t approached the counter, they never would have said anything to me. After decided I didn’t have time to fix the control arm issue, I pleaded with them that I still had to pick up my daughter off the bus, and they assured me they would get the tires on.Went back to the service desk at 3:15 and talked to Joanna. After a bit of questioning about a missing tire, she told me she wasn’t sure what happened and why it was taking so long. My alignment was free and I received a card for a free oil change but my time was absolutely wasted. Didn’t leave until 3:30, and I wasn’t able to get my daughter off the bus.

I had an 11 AM appointment and was told that my car would be ready to be picked up at 12:30 PM. When I returned, they told me that my car hadnt even been brought into the garage. When asked when it would be ready, they told me that they didnt have a time estimate. I was also told that they would not honor an online coupon. If I could give them zero stars I would.

My visit started out a little rocky bit Larry at the Hamden location was eager to correct the confusion. He spoke with the mechanics and was able to replace all break pads as agreed. Thank you Larry, your courtesous and promptness turned the whole experience into a positive one.

Awful service, they don’t take responsibility for their own mistakes and tried to tell me that a part in my car was broken. I told them not to fix it, called a family friend mechanic. There was nothing wrong with the part. All they do is lie and take your money.

I had a minor problem (tail light out) and they were incredibly fast (20 minutes total!) and reasonably priced. I had called another place with a better rating, but they wanted me to make an appointment to get an assessor to estimate the cost, then order the part, then come back another day. Pep Boys took care of me so much faster than that!

It sucked. I dropped my car off. It sat for 3 hours. I was told 5 mins before I was supposed to pick it up and closing time. That my car was not ready. It had not been touched in the whole four hours. The manager told me that family comes first. Well whos? Family, because I have a family too. So that meant what to me. I took my tired that was brought front the stroller and went else where...

This is by far the worst car service ever. First they misquoted the price and then tried to call back saying they made a mistake and gave the wrong quote. The first time I went there they mentioned a few leaks and the gasket needing to be repaired. After they fixed it, a few days later the car makes a funny sound and the check engine light came on. Before I took the car to get repaired I had zero issues with the check engine light and it wasnt making any noises. So I brought it back informing them and apparently they didnt know why the check engine light came on and the check it out, on top of that they charged an extra $300 for their own mistake. Couple weeks later, the check engine light came back on again. This place charges way too much to not know what they are doing and whoever was working on my vehicle made it worse than what it was. Will not be coming here again!

Dishonest customer service - I came in here 6 months to get an oil change for a newer Honda that required synthetic oil. An older gentleman tried to charge us $80 for the oil change and did not even mention they had a sale for $45 (displayed right in front of us at the cash register). We had an appointment and it took over 2 hours for the oil change
