I have order several items from Brownells and decided to check them out , while on vacation. Great place! Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and easy going, no pressure. They even have a waiting area, that my wife took full advantage of. Free coffee and hot chocolate. I really enjoyed the visit.

My opinion: In store is a must do, its awesome. ABSOLUTE FAILURE with online order. The online ordering hits a wall for me. Amazon, Optix, and Midway kick their A** so hard in this category, that the order i describe below is my last through them unless i am in a pinch for the specific item i am after (easier for me to make the 2 hour drive). There is a mom an pop outfit i order reload supplies from in Ohio where the items arrive 2 days after order is placed. Same with Midway (Missouri) and Optics (Illinois).The in store location is awesome. Pick something out of their huge inventory selection and they bring it up for you to review and decide if you want. The items in their store front DO NOT show up on the online inventory. These items are isolated in their system for store front only so it is best to stop in or call.Experience with online ordering: I assumed with their fast service at the store front that i would have a similar experience with online shopping. I had two orders back to back, ordered on Tuesday. Second order arrived Saturday. first order was held on suspicion which I did not get called (OR a courtesy email) until the following Monday, at which the item arrived the Wednesday thereafter. The mailing time from Grinnell, Iowa to Manchester, Iowa is overnight, every time.

First I was not happy with the fact that they called me restricted.Second a lady comes on the phone with a rather rude voice and says she is from brownells and wants to confirm my order, she asks me a few questions I answered Name, Address, what the item was, all that good stuff than she asks me for information on my card I said name on the card and than she says last 4. I informed the lady I dont feel comfortable saying any card info over the phone. She rudely says well if youre not going to give me that number than you arent going to get your item that you ordered. I said okay thats fine no worries please cancel the item than. The reply I got was we didnt charge your card any ways and (Click)I will never order from this business they have horrible customer service. The lady who didnt even tell me her name should be fired. She just lost them a potentially loyal customer.

Before now, I have had excellent service from this company. Im not sure, but I think I probably placed my first order with them more than 20 years ago. Today, however, I was told my order placed five days ago had been placed on hold due to concerns about fraud. Upon receiving that notification, I immediately called them and was told they now have enough confirmation to release the hold. If they were concerned about fraud, why didnt they call me five days ago? Very disappointed. They have received the last order from me....

I don’t know what kind of inventory system this clown show uses but it’s not good. Placed an order for ammo, it’s been tough to get but they suddenly had some in stock one day and I’m sure it went quickly. Placed my order which went through fine, figured I was clear. An entire week of waiting for a status change but my order just stayed processing. Then I get an email receipt that says “ordered 2, quantity shipped 2”. But oh hey, just kidding, another email 1 minute later shows a receipt that says they have no stock so my order was cancelled. No sorry, no real communication of any kind, just a sales slip that says cancelled. Terrible customer service.

This business is a scam. I placed my order on items that show in stock but to get free shipping you must buy something else to meet that $ amount. All items ran under the deal are posted cheaper than the amount so you’ll buy something else. Well I fell for it. And the only thing you get is the added on item you really didn’t want or need. Even though the thing you wanted was IN STOCK ON THE WEB SITE. Now says it’s not in stock. You call customer service they don’t care. But what they should’ve done was offered me something similar to what I ordered and made a customer some what happy. This is not the first time but it will be my last. I don’t recommend anyone do business with this company terrible customer service.

From my many years of experience with Brownells, I am surprised to see so many less than positive reviews.Ive had very few orders that were problematic, and those were cleared up quickly on the phone to actual USA-based english speaking customer service people.These guys are one of the few go-to companies I use when seeking parts and optics. Sometimes they have items other sellers dont have, and their notify me tool works, if you want to wait for something to come in-stock.The schematics with direct numbered links to the parts are another useful feature. I dont know of any other online company in this field who has that.

If I could give zero stars I would. Terrible experience. Placed an order received confirmation. The next day I received a new confirmation for almost double the cost. Contacted Brownells, and was assured I would get the original price, even got a confirmation for the mistake they made. All said and done they still hit me with the higher price. Terrible way to do business, and will not purchase anything from them again.

I returned a set of defective 45-70 Lyman dies. Instead of crediting my bank card I was issued a gift card. I applied the gift card to a new purchase. The online order stated that I would be billed for $15.90. Instead the gift card was ignored and I was billed for $78.38. This incompetence forced me to report a fraudulent purchase to my credit card company. Brownells incompetence is becoming legendary!

I placed an order that was about $250. I get a call more than a week later that my order will be canceled if I cant verify my address. My package should have been in my hand by now. Ive never had to double verify my address on a package well under $1K in value. What a joke! Im good on that confirmation, I will get it anywhere else.

Ordered a 460 BM/SOCOM BCG the bolt was bad!!Returned the faulty item as instructed by their CSR..Was informed that the item was not in stock and was on B/O…However, I was told that I wasn’t eligible for a monetary refund that I would A. Wait for a replacement at the time of inventory refresh they would send out a new BCG!!! Or B. Settle for an in store credit!?!?!! Obviously I opted to wait for the replacement… and was fine with having to wait!!Then this morning I received an email from Brownells saying the item was in stock, so I went to their website site signed in only to find out that my back order was cancelled and a refund was credited back to my credit card without my knowledge after being told that I was not eligible for a refund!?!? So this whole time I’ve been waiting for their inventory to be replenished for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON!!! THEY VIOLATED THEIR OWN COMPANY POLICY BY NOT NOTIFYING ME ABOUT THE CANCELLATION OF THE BACK ORDER PLUS THEY REFUNDED MONEY THAT I WAS TOLD THAT I COULDNT GET BACK!!! Ordered almost $600 worth of parts and selected next day. Well here we are the next day and it won’t ship until tomorrow because some genius changed my billing address. They knew that I put the correct addresses but for some wild reason someone there changed the billing. I cancelled my order with another company JUST BECAUSE THEY HAD ONE DAY. Well now they inform me that it won’t be here until Monday. Never again will I EVER order from brownells, especially when I should have ordered through midway.

Customer service when buying online leaves alot to be desired. They had a sale on Polymer80 kits and when I tried to add to my cart it would show up at the normal price. Customer service was of no help in resolving the glitch. Ordered the item anyways, took them a bit to ship out. Item has a defect from the manufacturer so per Brownells i tried to deal directly with the manufacturer to no avail. Went back to Brownells for help and got absolutely nowhere. I wasnt even trying to return the item, i just needed the faulty piece (little piece of sheet metal) replaced. No luck at all. For those of you who have had issues getting refunds or exchanges dont even bother dealing with these people, just do a charge back on your card and hit them where it hurts. Maybe then the customer service may improve.

I ordered a replacement 7mm magazine on January 29th. It says it is on back order. Today is June 9th and they still have not sent me the part, and have no clue as to when I will receive it. I have never heard of a back ordered part taking > 6 months to fulfill. Do not shop with this company, try Midwest gun works. (I tried here, but they did not have the part listed.)

On August 7th, 2020 I ordered a Sig Sauer P320 M17 pistol. On July 21, 2021, I cancelled the order. Over the course of 11+ months I contacted Brownell’s periodically to inquire as to an expected delivery date. Each time I received no information and no estimate as to when or if, I would ever receive the pistol.Meantime I contacted Sig Sauer whose response was that I would have to rely on the dealer to answer my question.Finally ordered a fairly similar firearm from Bud’s Gun Shop and received it at my local FFL within 4 days.Pretty amazing non-performance.

Ordered a pickup order from Brownells yesterday at 10am I live 2hrs away so I arrived at approximately 12:15. I went to the counter to get my order I was told that it was being pulled. The whole time watching ppl making orders from the computers in the store and receive their item and leave. Weird?No problem I thought. Hour later still nothing then I was approached by the manager asking me to reorder everything on their computers because the order couldn’t be found and I showed them the email confirmation for third time at that point.They said that it needed to be reordered. So I tried to reorder my items which two of the items showed out of stock which were in stock when I ordered them originally hours before.Let the manager know that I couldn’t complete my order due to item being out of stock. She then said we will overnight them to you? Her way of trying to brush me off! I’m standing here now to get them now round trip 4hrs. And in the store for 2hrs not happy. She then said I’ll give you a $10.00 gift card for the trouble. At that point it felt like a slap in the face.So I asked them to cancel my order completely if didn’t receive the item while was there. She said that they will cancel the order then. I asked for supervisors name and number.Made several attempt today to contact him about the experience yesterday. No return calls at this point.And also was invoiced for the order twice double charged.

Only gave it one star because I had to click on something. I ordered a BCG. Part came missing firing pin and cam pin. Waited several weeks for them to get back to me. They never did. I called twice to find out what was going on, and got the run around. Finally said screw it just give me my money back. Return policy is 15-20 business days for your refund. You hold peoples money for a month!! What crooks! Would not recommend this site.

The worst company I have dealt with in a long time. They send shipping notices that says your package will be there Tuesday. Then they change it to Friday after Tuesday comes and goes . Then it gets changed to Saturday. After changing from 3 warehouses around Kansas city it gets shipped across the country in the opposite direction and they send notice saying it will be there tomorrow. Save yourself from aggravation and order from midway usa and you will get what you ordered when they say

Absolutely absurd prices. Clearly price gouging. I can go to Bass pro in Altoona when they get ammo and pay half the price that these guys are selling ammo for. For instance, Hornady critical defense 9 mm ammo. $25 at Bass pro. $45 at Brownells. They were also selling a used handgun at new price. Theyre just laughing all the way to the bank at people who are paying these prices.

Placed a order on the morning of 3/29/21. Received an email saying expected arrival date of 4/5/21. I called on 4/5/21 because order still showed in the processing stage and not even shipped. Was told they needed to confirm some of my info before they could ship! Was told they PROBABLY would have reached out to today if I didn’t call, PROBABLY???? I asked if the could expedite the shipping and was told NO that there was nothing they could do at this point. My order hasn’t shipped yet, why not??? Over this past weekend, while perusing the internet for an in-stock .44 magnum revolver, I was VERY surprised to see one listed in-stock at Brownells. I quickly added it to my cart and purchased it, thinking it was too good to be true, and the website was probably not real-time inventory. The following day, my order status showed On Hold so I contacted customer service to inquire why. I was told this was for identity verification and fraud protection, and to call back M-F to speak to a verification specialist. Monday morning I called and spoke with a customer service rep, verbally verified a few details about my purchase and payment method, and the gun was shipped that same day. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the gun was truly in-stock and was already on the way to my FFL. I just got home a few hours ago from picking up my beautiful new S&W .44 Mag, and the process was smooth and painless. The ONLY minor gripe I have, is I did not receive an email alert letting me know my order was on hold pending verification, I only became aware of this because I had checked the order status then contacted customer service. But overall, great experience, and Im a happy customer.

Worst price gouging I have seen. Scheels, Theisens, and most local gun shops have kept their prices consistent, but Brownells has increased theirs drastically. A 50 pack of .223 will run you 85-95 dollars, and its even more for 5.56.

Ordered a product, it never arrives, (2nd time this year) I try 3 times to talk to someone and the online chat people, GREG, are absolutely worthless. I cant get a refund until I return the product I ordered, that never arrived! Im being told that if I call my CC company and file a complaint that it would be a false claim, pretty sure they would agree that if I ordered a product that I never received is not a false claim. Ordered a BRN-180 upper. Received the upper and went to rack the slide, when my finger was sliced by a piece of metal sticking out of the upper. No big deal. Contacted customer service for about a month until I received a response to file the upper myself and buy another product to make the color match. Obviously quality control is a concern of mine since Brownells sees no issues with the external quality and then tells me to buy another product and fix it myself. That pathetic reply doesn’t exert much confidence on the internal quality or their quality control standards. The equivalent of buying a used gun where the manufacturer warranty is obsolete, but on a brand new $800 part. Returned the upper and bought it elsewhere. Received zero reply from Brownells and have been waiting weeks for a return credit, with no update. There are tons of other places to go to where I know they’ll at least try to make it right. Atrocious customer service support

Made an order of an in-stock item and received an email confirmation (with item still in-stock at that time) advising that I’d receive another email later with shipping info once shipped. First time buying from them was pretty good. Second time very unprofessional. Got a email order was confirmed. Then got a call a week and a half later to confirm it again. A week after that it’s canceled. If you don’t have it don’t sell it. Could have bought from someone else for the same price or cheaper but not now. In a day and age in which technology is able to simplify processes as well as ensure that both parties involved in a transaction will be protected. Brownells is not the proprietor that I thought it was going to be. I have spent fair amounts of money with this company but every time it seems as though they want to ensure that there is no kind of positive customer service. Their order cancellation process is impossible so if you do accidentally place an order for the incorrect product they have no option for you to cancel it. Their “return” process is the only option. The internet is a big place I can find my parts elsewhere and I recommend that others should as well.

Purchased a gun stock and was never given a tracking number or shipping confirmation email. called to inquire on it and was told the order was canceled due to lock of stock, which it was in stock when purchased. then asked if they had anything comparable for the same cost and was told no, asked if they had any stocks in stock for that rifle and was told no. pretty upset at this point, then 2 days later get an email saying my order was processed and ready to ship soon. so i called back to see whats going on and then was told that my order was received and will be shipped out and delivered in 2 days which is a what i originally paid for (2day shipping). i explained my scenario to the rep. on the phone and seemed to not matter. well i got the correct part 7 days later!! really!!? no refund for shipping or anything else for the issues. boyds gunstocks are awesome and have no complaints about the product, but brownells customer service and attention to detail is very poor.

Placed an order yesterday and was told I needed to send a copy of my Driver’s License and credit card for “security purposes.” Item wasn’t a firearm or regulated item. Canceled my order and will take my money elsewhere, I suggest you do the same.
