Kurt is an amazing wealth of knowledge as had always offered up his advice no problemo. Always polite and always enthusiastic to help find the right instrument for you. I’ve been in the shop multiple times over the last year and finally purchased a sweet little Epiphone electric and he went over the whole guitar in great detail with me before I left with it. Unfortunately a bad experience. I feel bad for posting this review because the guy was nice enough, but he quoted me $2,000.00 to do a neck reset. Every other shop quoted me to do it for no more than $600.00. Every other shop has told me that $2,000.00 was WAY too high of a price and they couldnt believe that was quoted. I feel like I was trying to be taken for a ride, so to speak.Also, I had a slotting issue on the bridge of my guitar and upon inspection after he handled it, he made it worse :( It is angled now and the slot that it sits in is uneven in depth, so the string pops up into the cut HE filed and then still pops out. That string sounds very dull and dead. Theres a chance that it is from the bridge, but I wont fully blame him for that just yet. *Mind you, this bridge is an original handmade wood bridge that you cannot find anywhere online to replace. I realize now that I should have been much more careful in letting someone do this. He didnt charge me for the slotting, I should note. I thought that was nice of him to do that, but the problem is potentially worse than it was now and that just makes me sick to my stomach.Hes a super nice guy, but I just dont want someone who is ignorant about guitar fixing to get taken advantage of. Based on my experience, Id say look elsewhere if you have something very rare and valuable.

Kurt is a wizard. A more beautiful human being you may never meet. Despite the wonders he can do with stringed instruments, people come into his shop just to be uplifted by his spirit.

Grants Pass is lucky to have a guy like Kurt available to dial in our stringed(strung?)instruments, especially under lock-down circumstances, for these are the times when we turn to our wood and steel lifeboats, if you will, and Kurt is the guy that plugs the leaks in order that we may stay afloat 🛶

Stumbled across Fire Mountain after seeing an ad for a D-18. I stopped in on my way to Central Point and met Kurt for the first time. Within 10 minutes he made me feel completely at home and offered to show me what he had on consignment and his own instruments, along with some hand built electrics and acoustics. I told him about me Eastman E10 OO I had on my travels and he asked to see it. Which upon, Kurt set the action with a minor truss adjustment at no charge. His service and people skills were second to none. I plan on stopping by from time to time to see his changing inventory and say hello to him and his companion pooch, Duke.Thanks for a great visit and hospitality !

I am new to the area. Found Kurt on the internet and checked him out. He is a great guy! Could sit and talk to him all day about guitars. Obviously someone who really loves what he does.He tuned up my acoustic beautifully for a more than reasonable price. It sounds and plays like a twice the guitar now. Then he checked out and quickly dialed in my new electric and wouldnt charge me... and I did not buy it from him.Wouldnt hesitate to have him work much more extensively on anything I might need. You should see all the work he has lined up in the shop.You will lust over the consignment instruments hanging on the wall. I have to tear myself away.Ill be back.

Found the Martin of my dreams on consignment there, took 3 visits to walk away with it. Kurt was always working on someones guitar and knew the history of my guitar. He gave my 60s Gibson a bill of health check-up and Id come up from Ca.to get it.

Just got back from Fire River Music and I was extremely impressed! Kurt helped me with my old Hohner acoustic that just hasnt sounded the same since I restrung it. Anyhow, just talked guitar as he made some modifications and the place felt like home. Highly recommend!

Kurtis is a master guitar tech, and his store contains an impressive collection of vintage guitars for sale at reasonable prices.

You know the one about the banana in the tailpipe? Did not know the one about the toothpick and the crazy glue to fix my fretless Steinberger output jack, but Kurt did. Unbelievable. .

He is an old soul thats for sure, I wish more people were like him. He screwed a bolt in to my guitar neck, and it messed the neck up a bit, he says non chalantly just bring it in and get well get it fixed ( perfect geometry behind bolt placement! ) THIS GUY MUST BE SOME TYPE OF GURU.. lol. Hes great, really is. Still i have not brought my guitar in to get it fixed.. But i accually trust it will be, or i will be properly compensated. I dont expect that out of many people at all... 5 stars across the board.

Fire River Music is a music store you absoloutly want to visit! Their guitar selection is amazing and The Luthier and shop owner Kurt is a phenominal wealth of knowledge, extremely nice guy, and very talented luthier. If you need a guitar set up or repaired, this is THE shop to go to. Like vintage guitars??? They have them! Want something you dont see?? The owner has enough stock not in the store to fill it 10 times over. Just tell him what you are looking for and he will make it happen. There is also a guitar teacher in the back of the store and if you just like to talk guitars and he isnt busy, Kurt will tell you all kinds of neat stories from the music world.

Kurt at Fire River Music is everybodys dream of the perfect neighborhood luthier. I showed up unannounced today and asked if he could check out my new purchase, a Yamaha FG830, and, if it passed muster, put on another strap button at the neck joint.He went me one or two better by adjusting the action and supplying and screwing in a strap button, then telling me thatd be 5 bucks, parts and labor. Top that!
