They havent kept up with an updated variety of merchandise or competitive prices. I miss the tent sale, back when they did a good job. Used merchandise is generally over priced.

I know it’s curious to mention a different place in a review like this… But national camera exchange in Golden Valley and West Photo in Minneapolis… Those are the only two options I’ll ever recommend to photographers both film and digital as far as I’m concerned. If you’re into film photography, I don’t miss out on their “Shutterfly” department.

Have to leave a review! The customer service was incredible!! We came in on a busy Saturday afternoon to the Golden Valley location with a camera problem from a camera that wasn’t even purchased there, yet Russ gave us his undivided attention & took the time to work with us, trying to figure it out, suggesting new cameras, etc. A frustrating camera problem, but left feeling very satisfied with the level of knowledge & help we received. We definitely will be back, thanks to Russ and the other man who helped us, I think Steve. 5/5 stars for sure !

Great service and passionate people, had a few rentals from here and the service has been outstanding. The best part with the rentals here is that they are open 7 days a week and you dont have to pay for an extra weekend day just because the store is closed.The collection of small accessories they have is great too, had a few interesting finds which I would have never expected to exist.

I worked with Ken to do a trade-in of my gear to slim down my assortment of gear. He was wonderful to work with, insightful, and was upfront with everything I walked out with a new camera and was all set to go. This place and the people are fantastic.

I forgot to ask for his name but he sold the Pentax Zoom 90 WR to me along with some cases and black and white films. He was super friendly, thanks for the recommendation :) oh and he found the pentax strap for me! Awesome!

National Camera is a fantastic place to buy cameras and lenses. They also have a great selection of used equipment and are knowledgeable and fair about the condition. The staff is generally pretty nice. They let me try different lenses on my camera which I really appreciated. I do wish it was was easier to get hands on with the cameras instead of having to ask the salespeople. Sometimes they get busy and I dont want to waste their time if I just want to pick up a few cameras and try them out.I would stay away from the Promaster brand of accessories and memory cards as they are overpriced and mixed in quality in my personal experience.

Love this place! I just had a 3 x 4 canvas printed! Such a beautiful job!Theyve also put over 1400 slides on 3 flash drives. What a great Christmas gift to my brother and sister! They did a beautiful job on that too. No chopped off heads. Perfectly done. Which is priceless because these picture slides were taken by my dad, now gone from his family. LOVE this place!

Christopher L was very knowledgeable, he helped me select a Sony A7c camera that Im using for my real estate business and to create videos. He walked me through the product features and gave recommendations for accessories all within my budget. Prior to going to national camera I had been looking at Canon cameras but was overwhelmed by the conflicting information I found online, Im very glad that I shopped local.

To be honest, I do not always shop here and sometimes order online, but it is mostly due to me not wanting to wait for the item to be in stock. If I was more patient I would 100% buy everything here as the experience I have had with the lenses I bought here has been great.

Bizarre company. Made an online order and it immediately went into hold status. Called them, and they said they couldnt verify my address with my credit card company. I checked, and they match; they just shrugged and said sorry, we cant take your money, then refunded me.Ive never met a company that so emphatically didnt want my business.

Gave me an offering of $50 for my camera then when I went to pick it up they said unfortunately we cant give the $50 because of a problem they had already told me about. Very unprofessional to retract an offer that was already made. They also instead of calling me had called the wrong person about my camera telling them the offer which possibly could have been picked up by them. Wouldnt recommend them to anyone.

One of my favorite places to go in the cities. Incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging employees. I would recommend any of Nat Cams around the area. Lots of camera options, new and old. I have a preference for film so I tend to go to the Golden Valley location since they have the largest selection but there really is no bad option! My only issue with Nat Cam is that they dont have more locations closer to Rochester :(

I had decided after doing my research that I wanted to buy a Vortex spotting scope and accessories. Id like to support local businesses. Sadly they will not allow potential customers to look at an item before buying. I guess Ill have to take my money to a national chain.

The National Camera Exchange in Golden Valley has for years has been a welcoming, honest and educational experience for me and the staff is one-of-a-kind. Im coming from two hours north of the metro and called the shop to ask for a camera to be set aside for me. I hadnt held the camera yet, and when I came to the shop, they were quite busy but was attended to immediately. It was a man who helped me first (I unfortunately cant remember his name) and Taylor who assisted me in the end. This was my first big camera purchase and there was absolutely no pressure, just a passionate staff that I felt genuinely wanted me to have the best experience. I purchased the Canon EOS R with the RF 24-105mm lens, and I couldnt be happier!

Fantastic experience. My husband and I are new to the photography world and when we went in, Jon was above and beyond helpful. He gave us many recommendations, asked about our photography interests and goals, and really catered to what we needed in our own photography situations. Thankful for all his help, we will definitely be back.

Enter National Camera Exchange. Ive been in several times over the last year, and have always left satisfied with the product selection, price, and friendliness and knowledge of their staff. Even if Im coming in to ask a question, one of the team members takes the time to understand what it is Im asking, and give a comprehensive answer. That kind of customer service is what keeps me coming back. I definitely know where Ill go when I need to purchase my next piece of gear.

Theres something special and comforting about being in a real photo store, looking at the selections, holding the product and even trying it out. Online might offer lower prices, but theres more to photography than a price point. Service at National is par excellent; everyone behind that counter knows his/her stuff. Just visited the Golden Valley store and was really put off by the fact that they are requiring every customer to be chaperoned around the store by a salesperson. I dont like/need to have someone breathing down my neck while shopping...especially during a pandemic. There was little social distancing going on.

I had a great experience there. The staff are very knowledgeable and are great at giving recommendations. Most of the staff are actual photographers or camera buffs! It was great purchasing from a place where they knew theyre stuff instead of an electronics store that happens to sell some cameras. They also have a huge selection.

; Always a good experience there and seriously could learn a lot by asking questions. Sales associate are willing to talk about anything and give you advice. I WILL say that there is this one guy, forgot his name, who is a pushy sales person. I get it. Hes got bills to pay, but theres a difference in being a good sales person being aggressive, but not a pushy, cocky sales person. Never ever want to deal with him if I ever come in to purchase anything.

I dont recommend this store if youre interested in video cameras. I called up with a specific need for a camera in mind. The sales rep said if I came in it would be a good time to experiment to see which camera met my needs because the store wasnt busy. I said See you in 15 minutes and drove straight over. When I got there, the sales rep I had talked to was nowhere to be found and nobody knew where hed gone. A different sales rep helped me, but admitted he didnt know much about video cameras. I asked: Did any of the other reps know any more? Apparently not. So he fumbled around for about 10 minutes trying to help me. Then the rep Id talked to on the phone finally showed up. He said to the rep helping me: You know as much about video cameras as I do, so you might as well keep going. I said thanks and drove home.

Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Good prices, and will price match Amazon. They also have rentals, so you can try before you buy, or just rent better gear for special events.

Ive been shopping at National Camera for a few years now and have had over-the-top customer service every time from very knowledgeable people. Today, Kevin helped me with a lens I got for Christmas, and also helped me pick out a tripod! Thanks to Kevin (and Steve), my photography skills have improved a lot of the past few years!

I stopped in as the AF feature on my lens had just failed. Normally I default to eBay or Amazon, but figured National Camera Exchange was close so I would pay them a visit. They ended up having a used one and I saved $100 compared to a new one online. Kevin was a great help, he first inspected it to be sure it was broken, which was impressive. Whatever you buy, be sure to shop around online to compare pricing.

I love getting help from Dave Johnson, hes down in the basement in the weddings and portraits department. Hes extremely knowledgeable about the field of photography and very helpful! Hes a (retired?) professional photographer and that really helps me when I need any advice or help. Not to mention he has saved me a ton of money when I need to buy gear from National Camera, and I would rather spend it at this store rather than save a few bucks online or anywhere else! You cant put a price on quality customer service.

I had to drive to the Golden Valley location to take care of three or four little things because unfortunately National Camera had to close the Burnsville store when the building was sold, giving them no choice.I was in a bad mood, not having the best day.Assistant Manager Steve took my bad mood in stride, and we were laughing by the time I left the store, quite satisfied with the service and care I received. I had all my needs met. Steve even took an extra 15 minutes on a very busy Saturday to give me a real quick but excellent tutorial on some of the minor features of my camera that I was not aware of, but will make my future photography much easier and much better.I made sure I apologized to him and his manager for the mood when I arrived, and thanked them for the quality care.Kudos Steve for a job well done!!!

I called to ask if they had a battery for my camera in stock. The guy checked and said they were out of stock on this particular battery. I asked if other stores had this battery in stock. He checked again and said the other stores were also out of stock on this battery. I then asked the employee if he knew when the batteries would be restocked. He said he didnt know. I thanked him and then he just hung up on me without thanking me for calling. How rude. That says a lot about a business.

Went with intention of buying a lighter weight, smaller camera than what I have but wanted better zoom too. Curt Rawn was extremely helpful. He took so much time with my husband & me. Explained camera differences & similarities. Ended up buying one that was even on sale along with free charger and memory stick. I did upgrade the memory stick and purchased a case with 20% discount. Ive always had great service from National Camera Exchange. When I have a question about film, theyre able to swiftly review my options and the uses and strengths of each. When I was shopping for a new digital camera, they recommended several viable options and assisted me with a generous trade-in program. Theyre also very friendly and they make an effort to remember me when I come in.

Great local photography store. This visit was for printing services and advice. They were very accommodating for our holiday card order. The quality was excellent. Their advice on mirrorless and DSLR cameras is always helpful and straight forward. We usually visit the Edina store . but needed to go to the main store for this project.

Good selection of consumer and pro gear at competitive prices. Its not worth buying online when you can talk to a knowledgeable salesperson at Nat Cam and still pay the same price.Most, if not all of the sales staff are photographers, and know their stuff.

BEST photography developers, resource for help and information and cameras/accessories. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable on all cameras, photography and techniques. All you need to do is ask. Self-serve Kiosk for printing but staff is there to help every step of the process.

They do professional printing and are super awesome. Its so important to have a place that does photo printing with quality. They also sell photo gifts, cameras, film, and probably everything you might need if you take pictures.

It is so wonderful to have a local, trusted camera store that is filled with great equipment and fantastic, knowledgeable staff. Ive been coming to the Golden Valley store for several years now and all of the staff are always incredibly polite, knowledgeable, and give you their complete attention, even when the store is a zoo (weekends are a bit crazy!). I TRUST the advice and appreciate the candid conversations Ive had in this store. Ive spent thousands with them, even though I could order off of Amazon or B+H or elsewhere, I am proud to spend my dollars with people I can talk to and trust to give me great advice. I love to come in and tinker with new gear and always appreciate talking shop with the staff. I also LOOOOOOVE that they offer rentals, and have utilized them from time to time. I know that a local competitor also offers camera rentals, but they are not even remotely convenient for me, seeing as they are in NE Mpls and I live in the west metro. Also, I love the 7 day a week hours AND rental options! Cant beat the convenience. Keep up the great work!
