Theyre great. Really nice. Helpful. They have rooms so you can try out your instrument of choice without worrying about making other customers cringe or ruin their hearing if you play terribly awful. Had fun testing out electrics.

Absolutely delightful! Ive never touched a violin before in my life, and today I went in to get my first instrument. Julie helped me pick out one for beginners; she demod three violins, and after I decided on one the rest was a cinch! She recommended accessories/books for me to read, helped me get comfortable with the instrument, and was overall incredibly helpful. Ive got my first rental, now, and Ill absolutely be coming back for anything violin related. :D

Metzler is the very best all round. For a number if years we have had the service of Wesley who is just outstanding. Also the owner Thomas Metzler is just wonderful along with his daughter who also supports the business - we have now purchased our 3rd Violin for our daughter and will continue to buy as our daughter grows up. The store gives very good trade in terms for instruments purchased with them, which is excellent. Cannot say how happy we have this fantastic resource close by in Glendale!

My students have always been very happy with the personal service that they have received with wonderful violin, bow and case purchases as well as repairs. It’s really a wonderful, friendly, family environment with lots of music to browse through and beautiful special items to buy. I recently bought an electric violin here. They have a large selection of instruments to try, and the staff is happy to leave you to play. Lots of sheet music and accessories if youre looking for that.Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Nice experience.

Had a great experience buying a cello here with help from Zack and Emily. I called ahead to get an idea of what was available, and when I arrived, they had several cellos tuned and lined up ready for me to try and compare. It is sometimes frustrating at other shops, trying to get a fair comparison between cellos that are tuned differently (or just out of tune altogether) and so you spend half your time retuning them. Zack and Emily gave me space to try out the cellos privately and then Zack played them so I could hear them from a different angle, which was of great help. Zack is a professional cellist so getting his perspective was very helpful. I’d definitely recommend this shop to anyone looking for an instrument.

Owner of this place is an a**h*le. I asked if he had any percussion instruments and he pointed to his sign and read it to me like I couldn’t read. It’s a music store. It’s a perfectly reasonable question that you can just say no to. I’m sure he can set up your STRING instrument, but I’d implore to give your money to a nicer person.

I trialed four bows from them. They sent two they thought I’d like in addition to the two I requested. All four bows were great and when I picked *the* bow getting the other three back to them was easy. They went out of their way to work with me even though I am halfway across the country. I would definitely do business with them again.

Loved these guys! I dropped off my wifes violin and bow to repair and surprise her in time for Valentines day and thought it would easily take a few days to get it back. The young lady who greeted me asked me if I could wait 10 minutes! It was 9 minutes and 59 seconds later, she handed me the violin set and it looked like brand new! Fantastic work, fantastic service! The experience of trying out 10 violins during a pandemic was made utterly simple. Everyone at the shop was attentive and lovely at every turn. They brought the instruments curbside to our car so we could play them at home, and my granddaughter now has a really nice instrument plus bow. We could not be happier!

Our experience with Metzler Violin Shop could not have been better. We reside in Brooklyn, NY and all of our interactions were done by phone and we assessed violins for trial by mail. In the end we considered ten violins and each of the violins were of fine quality. I mention the number of violins that we considered also to express gratitude that we were so easily able to have access, despite our distance, to numerous strong choices. The staff of Metzler are wonderful and we worked directly first with Emily and then mostly with Wesley, and finally Tom, the owner. Once we gave our price range and described the qualities of the instrument we hoped to find, diligent effort was made to select violins to meet our criteria. The Metzler Violin Shop staff are lovely, supportive and knowledgeable. Im not a career musician but I wanted to repair my violin and take lessons again after years of not playing. Ive had my violin for 21 years and 2 of the seems had come apart after being stored for about 10 years. They fixed the seems in a week and Emma Cecila helped me find a new bow that was good quality and in my price range. I highly recommend this place its perfect for the snooty pros ;) and the retired armature musicians like me. I recently visited Metzlers for the first time to have two cello bows rehaired and a loose cello seam glued. I was also interested in trying out some of their cellos, and was excited to hear that despite the pandemic it would be possible to make an appointment to do so. The next time I came, they had placed in their courtyard a selection of cellos in my price range that had been selected by their resident cellist (Zack); I ended up taking one of them home on loan for a week. When I returned it (with regret), they kindly let me try some other instruments, including some really beautiful ones that were somewhat out of my price range.Overall, I had a really pleasant experience with this shop and would recommend it highly to anyone who needs to have their instrument repaired or who is looking to buy an instrument. The staff (I interacted mainly with Emily and Zack) are lovely people: knowledgeable, courteous, and professional; the quality of their work is well-known; and they have some really nice instruments. The only negative is that now I’m very tempted to buy an instrument that is out of my price range….[Two months later] Well, I am now the very pleased owner of a wonderful cello (yes, slightly out of my original price range, but not by too much). Metzlers kindly let me try out even more instruments, and take two to compare at home; ultimately I chose the one that made me feel good to play (oddly, my wife and children all preferred the other) and bought it. No buyers remorse at all! The staff at Metzlers were, as they had been before, pleasant, professional, and understanding. It was a real pleasure to do business with them, and I hope to patronize their shop again in the future (both for repairs and when I look for instruments for my children, not me - my 20-year search for a dream cello is done!).

Had a great experience renting a cello recently and wanted to share. Despite the quarantine, Tom was super helpful communicating with me to pick the right cello for my beginner lessons. We did the whole transaction by text and email and he was very respectful and safe when I picked up the cello, giving me a little overview of what I was renting and how to care for the instrument. His knowledge of the instrument is evident. I highly recommend.

Just had one of the best violin shopping experiences! I came in for a bow and ended up with a new violin to boot. I was very pleased with how knowledgeable the staff were, especially Shawn. They were all very patient and gave me plenty of time to discover what I liked and offended extra time to try it at home. I zoned in on exactly what I wanted and am very pleased with the tone and professional quality of my beautiful new violin and bow. This place is now my go to for any of my other violin needs. I had to leave my car at the dealerships service department... So, I walked back to the violin place after dropping-off my car.I know nothing about these instruments. However, I can sing... Sometimes scratchy. Sometimes in the shower. Sometimes with the radio. Always during the Christmas holiday season. Sometimes, amazingly spectacular. So visiting this shop enables my inner muse. I called ahead because I needed some work done in my violin. They were very professional, they responded to my message on a Sunday. I made an appointment (due to covid 19 you have to call ahead and drop your instrument off) and they installed a new bridge (after sanding and trimming it down to fit) and an hour later I had my violin back tunes and ready to go. The quality of work was great, their prices are quite reasonable and the customer service was excellent. I’m happy to have found this shop and am definitely going back.

I ended up finding Metzler Violin Shop through my colleague at work. He was brand new to the violin and talking about how wonderful Metzler Violin Shop was. I used to play when I was younger and missed it. I thought hey why not rent one and see if I really do miss it. The staff there is unbelievably helpful and knowledgable about their instruments. I did their 3 month rental and switched violins for the next 3 month rental to the Serafina, which was recommended by the staff. They let you try out the different violins to see which one works for you. I fell in love with the Serafina so much that I ended up purchasing it! I’m so glad I found this shop and highly HIGHLY recommend them!!

The staff at Metzler are friendly and wonderful. They do great instrument repair work and bow rehair jobs. If you are looking to purchase a violin or other instrument, they have lots of affordable options, as well as higher end, hand made instruments that might require some financing. I love their sheet music collection.

A must to go if you are a an aspiring musician is learning either violas or cellos, the door is always open 10 to 6 Tuesday through Saturday very knowledgeable and helpful staff has been in the LA area 40 + years but the knowledge contained in Thomas Metzlers Violin Shop is far greater than 40 + years of experience, you can walk in the door and see them repairing instruments and bows, a must see place if you are in Glendale California.

It was recommended to us by his violin teacher, who herself was a professional violinist. We mostly just trusted her to find good equipment and repairs and yet here we are.

I recently purchased a 1928 Jago Peternella viola from a shop elsewhere and gave it to Metzlers to have them put on a tail-piece with fine tuners and in general do what they could to improve the sound. They spent some time on it and now it sounds incredibly beautiful, far better than when I first purchased it. I am particularly grateful to Joseph Liu and Ryan Kinchen for their commitment to me and my instrument, and of course to Tom Metzler for his oversight. Thanks guys!
