I never received a written estimate. They wanted to release my car and the check engine light was still on. They put a newer engine in that didnt work and allowed me to use it until they got a new one. The car was undriveable I could not accelerate above 20mph and I was in 5:00 traffic. I was so embaressed. I ended up calling B.A.R. Bureau of Automotive Repair. It was over three weeks before I got my car back. My engine was in the back of my car on a pallet. These are not professional mechanics by any means. BEWARE....................

This place is great! I had a hard time finding a place that was even willing to do the work required on my car because of the difficulty in changing out the part. But once someone referred me to Van Ness Auto Repair, they were more than willing to do the work and had the experience with that specific issue. On top of that, I got the best quote I could find. And even better, the customer service was exceptional. Everyone I spoke to was very kind and professional, especially Carlos. Highly recommend this place!

Used to be a great place . Took my 92 Saturn in many times for repairs and had a good experience , until now . Took the Saturn in for water pump leaking . Pump still leaks and took them 2 and a half weeks to not fix my air conditioning. Cost me $1200 in lost work having the car just sitting there . They put the compressor in and broke it . This place is really headed downhill. Never go there again . Ill be reporting this place to the bureau of automotive repair to get all money back . Dont go here .

I would not take my car any other place in the Valley. I expect honesty from them, and they have never let me down. I credit them with keeping my 15+ year-old car alive. Jim and his crew are the best!

Owner Jim Medina truly cares about his customers. Mechanics are experienced skilled and ethical. Business is generally honest and reasonably priced. Not one problem after 10 years of service. Jim and other mechanics have often gone out of their way to help when I was in a bind. Recently, broke down a few miles away night before Thanksgiving. I was sick and stranded in rain. Jim drove out, got car started long enough to avoid tow, then he stayed past closing to get car repaired same night. Truly great service and people here.

Great establishment, the employees are honest, straight forward and hardworking. I feel like they really care about their clients and are extremely caring. Especially Carlos he is amazing, he has helped my husband and I both times we have been there, he goes above and beyond to make sure our car is taken care of, we will never go anywhere else.

Look out for the “up sale” at this place, Carlos (the nephew) prides himself in his selling abilities because that’s what he knows. The owner is just as profit focused, he cuts corners, sends out repairs and underpays his employees, well because lawsuits are expensive. 90% of their work is done by the guy in the back that gets paid under the table and doesn’t speak English. Call around before you call these guys.

THE BEST! Jim, Carlos, Alex, Noah, and Beto take excellent care of all of my vehicles. From pickup trucks to SUVs to Motorhomes to a SMART Car, they do great and honest work. Van Ness has rebuilt countless engines every one top notch build and the costs were very reasonable. Jim is good. His men are hard working. The shop is a invaluable asset to our community. The guy Jim claims to know it all but he himself caught my car on fire and refused to pay for it he did try and offer me another car But it was out of dated tagged by three years and had a crack in the windshield also I feel he is rasict and is apart of the fresnecks and he’s Mexican true imposter pitful

Took my 99 bmw there for a alignment with all brand new parts on the car they took 3 hours to supposedly get the alignment done. I get the car back and the steering wheel is still at the same exact spot meaning the alignment was still the way it was when they took my car to a alignment shop My gas was burnt as well so Im thinking they just took my car charged me for an alignment and just drove it around town Dont ever go to this shop for an alignment..i did the alignment myself and its spot on by my eyeballs 😂😂😂 chumps

The guys at Van Ness Auto are the real deal. They take great care in their work and are friendly and personable with their customers. I love this place because I never feel like Im being patronized for being a woman. They are also incredibly affordable.

Worst place ever! First off you can tell someone who works there are the same ones who wrote the so called good reviews. Went in for brake service and a smog not only did Jim over price but he also promised small minor things he seen during inspection would also be included in final price. Within days price rose by almost 400(over priced from start). But because I was recommend I choose to pay $936. Day I received car I was a happy camper. Until I realized I wasnt giving a smog Paper. Not thinking I take to smog shop only to fail. Upon returning home pressure on brakes all but vanished. The return visit was even more troubling as I was told they did nothing for smog. And they would charge again to see why brakes werent working. (Double dipping). Jim never touched my car all the little things he called about never were done so Cutting losses with these horrible mechanics I then proceeded to take another shop a few blocks down and not only did it take less time but they did it right the first time for almost half the money. Save time and money and the headache go else.

Four years ago these guys swore to my wife that we needed a new transmission immedietly on our minivan which would have been thousands of dollars to replace. This suprised me because van had no symptoms of a bad transmission. We took it to an actual transmission shop the next day and they said the transmition was great and 40 thousand miles and four years later our transmition is still doing great with no sign of needing repair.This was apart from them already overcharging us a ton for other repairs we actually needed. My 2016 envoice shows $660 for timing belt kit remove and install and the shop Im having it done at today in 2020 is coming in about $500.We also found out that all the repairs they supposedly did were not put into CarFax so the next shop or person you sell your car to has no way of knowing anything was done without paperwork. I have an envoice saying they replaced the Timing belt components and water pump from four years ago, but now that we have more problems with it the other shop says no record on CarFax that it was ever touched.I think the only reason these guys arent rated way lower is because there are in a nice neighborhood where lots of people think it is a cute local historic business and have enough money not to care about how expensive and dishonest they are or dont know enough about cars to notice that they are getting ripped off.The transmission was not the only thing any time my wife went in there to get one thing fixed they would come up with a super long laundry list of very expensive problems. Our vehicles werent any more or less neglected than anybody elses so when I went instead of my wife the story changed. I started questioning these problems and when we didnt do a lot of them low and behold the vehicle kept running.Ive wanted to write this review for so long but didnt want to get messy but seeing they are still around and still four stars, I just needed to say no they are not four stars, unless something has changed recently they are one star in my eyes.

I always come here for my oil change now, it is cheaper but the wait is long. But the workers are honest & thorough in what they do. If they see anything theyll immediately tell you what is wrong & explain everything.

Honest, knowledgeable and very reasonably priced. Have been going to his shop for over ten years and Jim Medina has seen us through some really tricky car repair situations. When Jim is in the shop its a well-run business, but when he works at his Palm Avenue shop and his other guys are in charge there are occasional communication problems (for example, not getting a call when things are taking longer until you call them first).

Worst experience I have ever had in my life. Went for an oil change came out having six other problems all total worth over 2000 dollars. They first gain your trust and later rip you off. Not only did I pay 800 dollars but I was disrespected. One of the workers tried to charge me for my own part as well. The owner seemed like he wanted to help. Do not waste your time.

I went to the shop located on Van ness and was very disappointed. I read all the great reviews this place had so I figured I couldnt go wrong by taking my car here. My car had an oil leak so I brought it in early in the morning to Jesse. I was told I would be getting a call in an hour to give me an estimate. I did not get a phone call until almost 5pm. The estimate I was given was a decent one. Im sure I would have found many places to fix my car for less but I really liked the great reviews this place has. The following day, I waited for a call that I never got. I called them around 2pm and was told my car was ready. So I go to pick it up and after paying, one of the guys starts my car and the oil started gushing out all over my cars engine. I again had to leave it there for a few hours for them to clean it up. So when I finally pick up my car, everything seemed to be fine. As soon as I got home, I parked my car and was not moved until the following morning. That morning I noticed it was still leaking oil and my car was now making a squealing noise whenever it was running. I brought it bought back and told them about the noise as well as the oil leak. They kept my car for two full days and never bothered to call me to let me know what was going on. I finally called at the end of day two and I was told my car is ready for pick up. Apparently the problem was that the filter was a little loose. Im not a mechanic but I dont see how it took them two full days to get that taken care of. Guess they didnt really care about making me, a customer, happy since they already had my money. Its been a few days now and it seems like the oil leak was fixed but the squealing noise is still there. I was very disappointed by their lack of communication and the fact that now my car has this embarrassing noise that wont go away. Another thing was that when I picked it up the second time, Jesse told me one of my axles was broken. Since i was already dissatisfied with their service, I told him I would take it elsewhere. Ive taken it to two different places to get that checked out and both places told me theres nothing wrong with the axles. I guess they were hoping to take more of my money. I will never be going back to this place and will make sure family and friend dont either.

Great place. Rated #1. Medina knows his stuff. Prices are fair, repairs are prompt but watch out for the crazy neighbor to the south and on Princeton. Couple of racist who hates Medias successful business.You cant go wrong trusting Medina with your ride.

We had a terrible experience here. They had our car for a week and a half and couldn’t fix it. Unfortunately they would not admit that they couldn’t fix it. Every single day we were told that we would have the car back by the end of the day, but it was never ready because of some unrelated thing. After a while, it seemed like it was never ready because they were having to fix their own mistakes. We were repeatedly made to feel like we were being unreasonable and that problems just “happen”, but they kept over-promising and under-performing. By the end of it, it was all little stuff they said could be done in 5 minutes or 30 minutes, but they still couldn’t get it done in a day. My fiancé was stuck at the shop, waiting for hours for something they said would be done in a few minutes, and would end up having to walk home in the dark. Ultimately we just wanted them to get it working well enough to drive it home so we could figure out where else to take it. They promised us they could do this, but when we went to go get it, it didn’t even made it out of the drive way out of the shop. Luckily the mechanics managed to get it to our house, saving us the cost of towing it again. However, when they got it here, the window was down and wouldn’t roll up. They said it had always been like that. So we paid for hundreds of dollars in parts (we talked them out of charging labor because they didn’t actually fix the problem we came in with), were made promises that were not kept, and they busted our window and wouldn’t admit to it or fix it. They know how frustrated we were and that we’ll never be back.

I have a 98 RAV4. These guys are honest, respectful, and do great work. When they do mess up, they own up to it. How many mechanics call you to say *they* botched something and they need more time to finish the job (i.e. no lame excuses as to why a job takes longer than predicted). And, yes, they stand behind their finished work. As for pricing, definitely fair. This review applies to both shops, the one on Van Ness and the one on Palm.

I always like this place, until my last most recsnt experience. But recently i went for an oil change. They told me my brakes were extremely bad, in the red @ 2mm (10mm is new). They said i should change them within 1-2 weeks max. A week later the night before i was gonna take it in i read some questionable reviews so i took it to the dealership instead= $50more. They told me my brakes were at 5mm!! They asked if i still wanted them changedsince they were still good and barely in the yellow. And they would easily last another 6mo-1year depending on how much i drive!!! Wth!! Mind u my car has less than 50kmi. So they were gonna charge me $$$ hundreds of to do work that wasnt needed! I dont remember the employees name, it wasnt the owner. But either way I wont be going back. This place is dishonest and i no longer trust them.

Car was there over 1.5 weeks to diagnose and repair steering rack and have 4 tires and alignment placed. Car sat under large pine tree when it was not being worked on. Sap found all over car. Damage found to all 4 rims and large dent in bumper. New Manager. Young kid. Disrespectful
