Go to Barney Robinsons Hardwoods instead for better quality lumber & a good customer service experience! The the only good thing about Sweeneys is they have more variety of species than Lowes/Home Depot (including plywoods). The sales process from the customers perspective is a nightmare, you deal with 6 different people & they all give you different instructions. They try to force sell warped boards too, without discounting them. One of the 6 people I talked to said we couldnt sort through the boards, (I laughed at first because I thought he was joking lol) but I understood why when I saw how many boards were warped, in multiple of their species!!

This place is a staple in the Ft. Worth community. Has been in business longer than some of us have been alive. Super friendly, courteous, knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended; You will not be disappointed! Check it out today.

Really disappointed with this place. I was told I could come to the store. When got there the door was locked. I called the number on the door and was told I could not come in due to COVID and had to go online to order and then they would deliver to me. I am new to wood working and was looking forward to visiting and picking some wood out, what a wasted 1hr trip (30 mins there and back). I will not be returning ever.

Still not open to the public despite the profile saying in store shopping available. Wasted trip

I did not like the service at this place because they ask you to put on the mask and the people working there dont have one on.

I wasted my time. No where I looked said anything about online only, it just says open. Between the long wasted trip and the scared little children that I spoke to on the phone once I got there. I can only assume they would rather not have my business. They made it very clear they do not want you in their store.

Always meets and exceeds expectations fast courteous on time met several employees all of them are top-notch if theres anything good to say about a company its Sweeney Hardwoods their salesman has stopped by my shop to make sure everything is okay the gentleman who retrieves my orders always on point then dealing with the company almost a year now wow I have nothing but good things to say

Can I give a ZERO? It may be COVID, but I’ve NEVER had such a horrid experience with a lumber store. Buying walnut for a custom table top. I was told I could come in and look. Drove 35 minutes to get there only to be told we couldn’t look at anything; they’d bring it out to us. I was told if they brought something I didn’t like I could send it back. Since my purchase was $860 they delivered for free (the only good thing I have to say). I ended up sending back almost HALF of it as unusable.Later I found out that the FAS grading now allows for 1 or better to be sold as prime in walnut. Clearly this was the lower end. Knots in the center of the field (not an epoxy pour table!). Colors ranged wildly. Lots of sapwood (HUGE amounts!)Called them on Monday to find out what I could expect for the rest of the order. I was told they would credit back what I returned but they refused to send me more (I can see why), they refused to let me come in and pick out the boards I wanted, and they refused to take back the rest of the order so I could at least have matching boards in this high end table top. 😡They recommended I try Plywood Supply of Ft Worth (ok, two good things to say). Not only were the prices better, they brought out two full pallets of walnut and allowed me to go through them to find just the right boards. Super people to work with. Found some absolutely gorgeous walnut that was just what I was looking for. Dark with very little sapwood. Unfortunately it’s not a good match with the Sweeney walnut (steamed for “richer more uniform color - but is washed out and none of it dark) so I’ll be making a trip back for the rest of the table width.Refund from Sweeney? Was told it would happen on Friday. Hadn’t gone through by the following Wed. Took 3 phone calls to get the amount refunded. 😡Stay away. Go to a more reputable company like Plywood Supply!!

An excellent company to purchase selections of hardwood lumber. You just need to check the lumber they give you for being warped and rough edges. Just remember that hardwood lumber of any type is expensive. I would recommend this company to any one need to buy hardwood lumber for woodworking and/or individual projects!

A couple years ago, I bought 30 board feet each of pecan, soft maple, and poplar. The pecan and maple is all casehardened, and unusable for most purposes.An expensive mistake, and not a good introduction to woodworking.They didnt offer to fix the problem, and told me they cant assure me it wouldnt happen again.
