I brought my husband’s guitar in to have Jason improve the setup; string height, frets, neck, etc. To our surprise, he informed us that the current setup was acceptable for our specific needs. He said there was room for minor improvements, but we most-likely wouldn’t notice. And even though he didn’t make any changes, we offered him money for his time. He said to consider it a free consultation. He could’ve easily taken advantage of us for a quick $100-$200 but he didn’t. Trustworthiness is a valuable trait. I’ll definitely be taking my business to Jason in the future.

I recommend getting your guitar fix by this guy. He really did a fabulous job fixing my black acoustic Fender. If you’re bridge breaks. Come to this guy. He will fix it like it was never been broken before. Thanks man.

Ryan took in my ancient Fender, did an assessment and took the care to set it up totally right. Such an improvement! It is very old and probably a bit fragile. But he did all the right things. He was wise enough not to go overboard and tear the guitar apart knowing it was working well otherwise also knowing what my purpose for it was. Great service! Highly recommend!

What a delightful experience to happen upon your shop as my friend Kathleen and I explored Flagstaff the day before our Grand Canyon River Rafting trip (4/14). Am still very interested in the oblong stringed instrument with multiple octaves of the same note. Dont remember what it is called though.

Flagstaff is lucky to have a luthier that cares as much about our guitars as we do! I might have cried a bit, when I discovered my Grandmas 1971 Martin with its headstock broken in half, following a party at my house (teenagers), but when I finalled gathered the courage to take it in to a shop, to see if it couls be repaired, I had no idea it would feel like dropping off your kids, at their grandparents house. Ryans expertise, and true love of instruments, immediately put me at ease, and gave me hope. When the extensive repairs were complete (fix broken head, replace frets, bridge, bridge pins, recondition fingerboard, new strings, and pro setup), I was both relieved and ecstatic. I knew at the first strum, that this guitar was not just back from the dead, but had probably never played so well, in its life. The action was sooo much lighter, and the intonation even better than before (if thats possible on such a tank of a guitar?!?), I was beside myself. After gladly forking over some dough (which was below estimate, and included some extra TLC), I rushed home without my feet ever touching the ground. Wow! I mean WOW! Bombastic tone, and playability was amazing. Grandma would be proud, and I cant stop smiling. Many thanks, Ryan ❤🎸👍

Ryan did a wonderful job repairing my Skipper 00 guitar. Humidified the guitar. Re-glued the bridge. Repaired 2 top cracks and did a set up. My guitar clearly did not like the Arizona dryness.

I brought Ryan my basic $300 Yamaha that I use for river trips, or camping or when I go to any other place that I would worry having my much more expensive Taylor. Ryan adjusted the action, adjusted the neck, and hand picked strings that he thought would play and sound best on this specific guitar. When I retrieved my guitar again I expected that it would play a little bit better, but was and still am amazed at how well it plays and sounds now. Ryan is a master with a most friendly and relaxed disposition. He also did the work quite quickly and at a very reasonable price. I am very happy that he is in Flagstaff

I had binding repair and several adjustments made on my Martin HD-28. Ryan also recommended DAddario 12-56 Bluegrass Light Top Medium Body strings. The bottom line, when I picked up the guitar it looked brand new, yet it is 33 years old. Furthermore, because of his craftsmanship the guitar plays with ease and remarkable sound! What a joy it is to play the guitar. I highly recommend Custom Sounds . . . Ryan is a pleasure to work with because he loves what does and wants the best for the player.

I would like to take some time to say that Ryan from Custom sound Instrument Is an Excellent Luther. He is very profession and knows exactly what the problem is and how to fix your instrument. He told me that he could lower the action on my new Cordoba guitar and make the fret board easier to play and did an excellent job. It is great to have someone in Flagstaff of this caliber that will take care of our stringed instruments. My name is Omar Mondragon and I have worked with Ryan for many years.

Killer spot. Ryan showed me this cool 4 string cigar box guitar they make with a built in nut mod for 3 string with 2 highs or a 4 string. With a pick-up and a volume knob! The thing rips.Definitely swing by if youre a player. Mostly a lutheir shop for serious players but a good spot to pick up some strings real quick and get tempted to buy some Custom Flagstaff Gear.

Bought a guitar here and my experience with them has been stellar. The staff is very knowledgeable on their products, are very accommodating for services (I live 2 hours away and they always find a way to accommodate me when Im in town). The owner doesnt try to over sell products. This mom and pop shop puts big box stores and online stores to shame with amazing prices. I suspect Ill be a loyal customer to them for as long as I live in AZ, and as long as they stay in business (support local small businesses people!)

Custom Sounds is one of those rare Guitar Shops where you feel instantly at home and welcomed the moment you walk in. Staff is always friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. Their attention to customers both new, old, veteran, or novice is impeccable and it is refreshing to to see that level of respect and encouragement to all musicians. The store is laid out very nicely and is always kept orderly, clean, and humid so that all of their instruments stay in excellent shape. I have bought several instruments from Custom Sounds over the years and always have my guitars serviced by Ryan or one of the skilled luthiers he has on staff. They do great work and it seems that Ryan makes a point to hire people who are nothing but exceptional and passionate about what they do.This is an excellent local establishment.

A nice, small music store with that local feel. It is no Guitar Center, but what they lack in selection they make up for in customer service / helping real musicians.
