My wife recently got her flute back from repairs, she was originally quoted a turnaround time of 4-6 weeks. It was delivered on May 14th and we received it back on August 28th, it took over 15 weeks. We are really unhappy with the level of service and lack of communication through the whole process, especially spending almost $2000 on the service. We had to reach out multiple times over the 15 weeks to get status updates as there was zero communication to us from Flute World. Now that my wife is back teaching this week and able to fully put it through its paces, the first trill key has been moved off center and she keeps leaning on it due to how its been re-positioned.We are taking it to another company for an adjustment.Avoid Flute World at all cost.

Today I called Flute World and spoke with Bill. The reason I called was because I had a used Hammig piccolo on trial from a well know “center” and they were unable to give me a definitive answer to my questions with respect to the type of springs found in those piccolos. After being on hold for one minute, Bill was able to confirm that Hammig piccolos use steel springs (and not the white gold as falsely advertised by the established company that sent the piccolo out for trial). He even answered my question about the difference in Hammig cases. Bill’s kind demeanor and depth of knowledge is the reason for this review. Because of him, I will ONLY be using Flute World for any and all of my musical needs.

They asked me about what brands I wanted to try, foot style, key style, and head joint. Right away they brought in several flutes for me to try out. They helped me pick the correct one and even offered me music to play when trying them out. I found the best flute for me and checkout was quick and easy. The lady helping me told me about the warranty and how to clean my flute. Great experience overall.

This store use to be great. It was a place where music was celebrated. Things are now very different in the hands of new managment. They still enjoy their jobs, but just not the music it seems. They enjoy taking advantage of our love of playing by over charging for repairs, and using our trust against us as players. They will question your integrity once you start to outpace them, and are no longer above spreading malicious lies to try to keep you down. If they start to judge you here, you must be doing something right. There are plenty of options in Metro Detroit for flute repair.

The place every flutist should visit in their life. As a father of a flutist, I enjoyed my daughter try out flutes and as the wand chooses the wizard, the flute chooses the flutist. They didnt tell her what flutes she was playing and asked for comments. Mixed them up and had her try them again with another piece and etudes. The same flute was too and the next several stood above the others. Took the flutes home for a week and the same flute emerged. Great prices, not pushy, very supportive. Flute center of New York and flute world are the best in the country. Flash to be in their area.

Two friends and I came to the Powell Open House today. I used to say that there couldnt possibly That much difference between a less expensive model and a top of the line model of flute. I thought a high quality flute would never make that big of a difference in my sound......Well Today I was WRONG!!! There is a HUGE difference in sound and it well worth the money. They are more resonant and warm toned. The quick transition from a very low note to a very high note is smooth and easy. Loved it!!!!!!

Travelled here from New Zealand, hoping to try out and purchase a new flute head and was not disappointed. Flute World has a world-class range of instruments on-hand, leaving me utterly spoilt for choice. They have a handy try-out room so I could play in peace, and they gave me plenty of practical, objective advice without ever being pushy. I didnt come away empty-handed, and Im delighted with my new wooden head.Im just a keen amateur, but these folks clearly deal with everybody from beginners to professionals. Seriously, if youre seriously looking for a flute, this is THE place to go - even if you have to fly in like I did. Mind you, if you really have to mail order, then they promised me they inspect and tune every new instrument thoroughly before it ships.Oh yeah, they also carry a staggering array of sheet music. Honestly, you have to see it to believe it. It will make your local music store cry and just give up.P.S. To my fellow reviewer who expected to get a flute serviced for $30-50, Im not sure who you let touch your flute, but I dont think I could get my sink unclogged for that price. After a year or two of playing, a service is more likely to cost $300, depending on how many pads need replacing. A ten year full service of a top-end flute will cost closer to thousand bucks (or more if you have to send it back to the manufacturer in Japan). Painful, but thats just how it is.

I went to Flute World this past weekend. I live about 2.5 hours away, so this isnt a trip I get to make often. First of all, I walked in and was greeted by shelves and shelves of music and accessories. Omg. I was so happy! THEN, I walked upstairs to the Pearl exhibit. So, I was blown away by how many instruments were there available to try AND THEN Bill (I cant recall his last name - sorry!) came up to say hello, see what we were looking at. At that point, I told him I recently bought a Yamaha 687, and wasnt really looking, but Id always been curious about the tonal differences between gold and silver. I learned SO much that day. He brought out several flutes with lots of different configurations and brands for me to compare. Turns out, Im not a huge fan of a fully gold flute. Not my thing... but it was great because I did learn what flute I would lean towards next, and I learned a lot about the idea of upgrading my headjoint in the future. And the best part was that I wasnt being sold... he genuinely wanted to teach me something, which I can absolutely appreciate. I work in music industry sales, and it was refreshing that he genuinely cared that I learned something that day instead of brushing me off because I wasnt buying or trying to push me to buy on a day I wasnt prepared to.I can honestly say this was the best experience Ive had as a customer in a music store. I also want to add that Ive been buying from their online store since I was a teenager and Ive always, always, always been happy with the service. If I could give this company more than 5 stars, I absolutely would.Keep up the great work, guys, and when I am ready to spring for a new instrument, youll be my go-to, no questions asked!

I sent my flute in for general maintenance at Flute World and was not told how much it was cost. I was under the assumption it would be between $30-$50 as a normal general instrument tuneup would cost. Upon completion of repair, I was told afterwards it cost $175 to shine my flute and repair corks ( the number of repairs was unspecified) and oiling. Generally, this type of maintenance cost approximately $50. Flute Worlds repair person and manager refuse to release my flute, even after partial payment, even though I specifically told the manager I was never made aware of the repair price. Even after telling the repair person and manager that I have an upcoming performance in which I need my instrument they still refuse to release my flute until full payment has been made. I told the manager of my financial situation in which she was very condescending towards and was rude in her tone. As of yet, I still do not have my flute back and will refuse to do service with this company, after 10 years of my being a faithful customer, after this issue is resolved. Flute World has poor customer service and does not make customers aware of all policies until they service your instrument and leave you in a bind to pay it.

I needed to send my GUO New Voice flute off to be repaired since it is a specialized flute. Ive never had to send my flute someplace before so i was definitely nervous. I chose to send my flute to Flute World because they had good reviews. My experience with them was great! Smooth transaction throughout besides the slip up with the GUO company (completely out of their control.) Thank you Sarah and Bill and everyone at Flute World. Im so thankful to have a trusted flute company that i can go to when local repair places are unavailable or unqualified to do the work needed.

We saw this just driving past and as we had a fluter in our midst we had to stop. I think it might be more of an instrument and lessons store and we didnt specifically go in for either obviously but they had a very large sheet music collection and lots of accessories that we perused.

Bad reception service. I went to the store and had a very bad experience with the old lady that started to complain about my service dog that was inside a hand bag and was not even walking on the store. Could not wait until a sale associate come to show some options for my new flute. I am sure this is not the professionalism level of this store but I had to review this bad service. Totally different service that Muramatsu America in Royal Oak offered to me.
