Great place for the diy individuals

I got a free computer from a friend because it wouldnt turn on. I came to the conclusion that the power supply was bad. MSE had just what I was looking for. I spent some time looking around and also purchased a keyboard for my mother. I wish there was more of these stores around. I hated Radio Shacks. Plus RS didnt have near the surplus of items.

I was in a real pinch and needed a capacitor for my air conditioner. I called a few minutes before they were due to close and the guy working said he would stay open a few extra minutes to give me time to get there. You just dont find people like that very often, someone thats willing to go above and beyond. This store has earn my business from this point forward. I encourage everyone to check out the store for themselves. A true gem to have access to.

Fantastic shop! The owner is usually always there to answer questions and has worked in the business for over 40 years. Great kits available for beginners up through advanced, and just about every electronic component you could ask for, and then some more! If you have any tech you want to repair or get running again, or you want to build something from scratch, this is the place to go. Give them a shot, you wont regret it.

This place is one of a kind! There is a little bit of everything here. Management and prices are hard to beat. Anyone from a full blown engineer to a beginner hobbyists can benefit from a visit to this place.

Always helpful, can always find something you need, sometimes I go just to remind me of my Old High School JVS Electronics Program, the components just bring me back to the good old days. And they even stock current technology, so its a win/win for everybody!!! If you cant find it ask. Excellent place man, great staff, and everything is in a place where it can be found.Since I first posted this review Ive returned many times to this store. Its my favorite one in Dayton. Ive found everything I need to build induction heaters, audio amplifiers, power supplies, and numerous other involved projects. Not only is there a wide selection across the entire inventory, its all organized in a manner befitting an electronics shop. Youll find a wide array of ics, a whole shelf of class d amplifier chips, kits to build yourself and tools to do it with. For people like myself this place is a gold mine, whereas others are more like dirty, convoluted, labor intensive hunts for possible treasure offered at %50 clearance... Best place for us that you will find; and the staff wont laugh at you for coming in all the time.

Make no mistake, this is a tinkerers paradise. Just dont come in here expecting to be treated like a beautiful and unique snowflake. The owner will definitely help you find what you are looking for, but he wont help with the design or really suggest alternatives. There is no marketing pitch, no sales tactic, just a good, honest small town store!

MSE is an absolute gold mine for electronics junkies and tinkerers. Rows and rows of surplus parts, components, tools etc. The staff is very friendly. Highly recommended and worth a detour if youre anywhere close.

This electronics store has a wide variety of parts from surface mount components to power supplies and connectors all the way to PC parts and accessory cables. The shop has existed for decades, and the employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. If youre looking for any electronics parts that a big box store wont bother to carry, this is an excellent local source!

This place has an extensive inventory of electronic stuff and misc items. I recommend taking the time to walk the isles making a mental note of all the items available. I particularly go there for cable, wiring, small LEDs and heat shrink. I recently re-wired my utility trailer and ran 100 of Cat5 cable through my attic, and I bought everything I needed at VERY affordable prices. Before going to the box stores or whats left of Radio Shack, check this place out first. It will be a sad day if they ever decide to close their doors permanently.

Love this place. Its like a Mecca for electronics nerds. Annoys my wife everytime we go that my 5 minute drop-ins to grab 1 thing turn into 20 minute browsing sessions.

We needed a AC adapter and thought we would shop local instead of shopping on Amazon. HUGE Mistake.Very unfriendly clerk. I do not know if he was the owner or just a clerk, but he was very disrespectful. Not every one knows exactly what they need, so they look to (so called) professionals for help. I am not sure if this guy got a sick pleasure that my daughter and I did not know how many volts and such that we needed, but that is sure what it felt like. He definitely did not even attempt to help us figure it out. We will never come back to this store, nor suggest it to anyone.

Ive been going to Midwest since I was a kid to pick up my next random electronic doo-dad, repair part, or even just to ask for advice. As their name implies theyve got a selection of everything from vacuum tubes, ICs, passive components, wiring, and nearly anything else you might need to keep your home mad scientist laboratory well-equipped. I feel incredibly fortunate to live within a short driving distance of this place, and I hope theyll be around for many years more. Where else are you going to pick up a handful of vintage 74LS373 octal D-type flip-flops for a couple bucks at 10am on a Saturday morning?

If you need an obscure bit of electronics, a tool, a used computer component, or something less easily categorized, you should check this place first. The man running the counter is helpful, and his dry sense of humor makes every visit a pleasure. Ive found heatsinks and knobs here that not even Mendelsons in downtown Dayton has. They also sell electronic hobbyist kits and bits to go with your Arduino.

Nice place with some good Electronic Hobbyist Stuff. The guys at the counter pointed me to what I wanted. Worth the visit if your in town for Hamvention, or just going to Dayton for Mendelsons. Be sure to check the website for times, they close a bit early on Saturdays.

The website will show that they dont have a lot to offer. But it is very, very wrong. If youre an electronics nerd like me, this is heaven on earth. Not only do they carry electronics parts, they have vintage equipment, PC stuff (SGI workstations!), tons and tons of hard-to-find PC parts and equipment (ZIP drives out the wazoo), and some very good prices. It may be an hour away from me, but I think the drive is worth it. Very good service; I asked about SCSI controllers and *poof*, theres six of them in front of me. You can also find some very obscure components around there (Peltier coolers, 1/3 HP motors) that are either expensive to get or almost impossible to find. Overall, I would recommend this store to any hobbyists or even collectors.

Always enjoyable. Remember though, Midwest SURPLUS, this isnt Radio Shack so dont expect pretty displays and limited stock.
