I seem to be constantly struggling with this dealership, whether its the attitude or the delayed response. Ive bought two cars here that I have been pleased with but every time I have to deal with an issue, I feel like I get very poor service. I feel like that dont take me seriously because of age or the color of my skin. Still waiting to hear back about a part I requested about a two weeks ago. They said it would take a few days and that I would be on priority to receiving more information once the part came. Still nothing... I asked if they could send over information to another VW dealership in another location that was closer to me. They said I would have to do the whole process of having my car checked again making this very inconvenient and wasting more of my time. I love VW but would never buy from Herman Crooks again.

After moving to a new city finding a dealership you trust is difficult. But Ricardo at Herman Cook took the time to explain and show me (with an example car part in his hands) what exactly my issue was. I’ve taken my car here for service for 4 years, and car was purchased here as well. Have had decent experience in the past, but will not be buying or servicing my car here again. Spent 300dollars on a mirror cap. ( the small piece of plastic on the backside of my mirror), and was told they would install included in the price. picked up today, and a very rude man at the service desk proceeded to tell me they need to charge me for that.When I explained that they said it was included in the price (it’s a literal 5 minute job) he said that wasn’t his problem. After all the money I’ve spent on cars/ parts: services here, I Will NOT be coming back.

Beware of service department! I had my Jetta in for oil change and tire rotation. They told me I needed brake pads and rotors. I had them done not long ago and they said you better do them right now because you only have 2 or 3mm left. I told the service rep I wanted to talk to the service manager about this. He came back and said the service manager doesnt want to talk to me that his guys know what they are doing. I told them to bring me my car that I want to leave. They said my car is dangerous and I need to fix the brakes. I said no a bunch of times and finally got the hell ought of this place.Knowing that my brakes werent that old I had a regular shop look at it and they said the brakes had 7mm left and everything looked great.Im never coming back here!

I am blown away by the customer service at Herman Cook VW! Jojo was incredible to work with. She gave us space to talk privately and was not pushy at all. And she knew the answer to every question I asked. Jojo made us feel so comfortable and right at home. The car was practically perfect, but it was Jojo that really sealed the deal for us. Linda in financing was also great to work with! Five star service all around! So in love with my VW Atlas! We will be repeat customers for life.

I recently leased a 2021 Atlas from this dealership during their sign and drive promo, Lisa my sales rep was a delight to work with. As a woman with minimal car knowledge I’ve never felt as if I’m getting ripped off. 99.9999% of people walk into a dealership defensive because of how typical dealerships work... our recent experience didnt change that notion initially as we dealt with 9-10 typical salespeople.. we werent in a rush and went from Oxnard all the way down to Encinitas willing to find the best deal and best salesperson and we are glad we ventured twice and over 200+ miles because of Jojo! Not only did we get the best deal possible, there was no pressure and Jojo only wanted to assist us... we would drive 3000 miles for her, we were so in love with her, having spent 7 years as a trained salesperson myself I can say Jojo was the best salesperson I have ever dealt with. The experience was so comfortable, Jojo was so amazing and wanted to genuinely help us and there was not an ounce of typical slimy, pressure purchasing situation. We love our car and still cant believe we got a better price too over a 120 mile stretch of dealerships. I am just so lush over the thought of our buying experience. You would be too with Jojo.

I really appreciated the call and Ive updated my review to reflect it!Worst customer service Ive ever experienced at a dealership. We called today to give the dealer a heads-up that we were coming in to test drive and likely lease an Atlas SE. For customers who were prepared to walk away with a new car that same day (on probably the most dead sales day of the week for them), the salesman could have cared less that we were there. In addition to his unaccommodating disposition, he had to keep referring to the manual to answer basic questions about the differences between the trims. At one point, he just handed my husband the spec sheet as if he couldnt be bothered. He kept having to ask colleagues questions that I would have expected a salesperson to know and even brought the finance manager over to walk us through basic lease questions. The icing on the cake? He put a deal in front of us with $1-3K down when the current promotion is 0 down. We decided to take our business elsewhere and drove 10 miles to Escondido where the service has been excellent!

My experience at Herman Cook Volkswagen has been nothing short of tremendous. I called them in the morning at about 8:00 to inquire about a Volkswagen Tiguan that was listed on Carfax. I was told I was a few minutes too early to call, and that someone from the sales team would reach out. And sure enough, I got a call back from Jojo (Jodi Bott), and in my opinion, this was the most fortunate assignment. Jojo quickly and effortlessly arranged everything that was needed as discussed in our conversation about the car and the financing options. I found it naturally easy to talk to her and she was absolutely earnest in explaining all my options. All I had to do was get to the dealership, test drive the car, and once I liked it, go over the documents that were already arranged for me and that was it! Ive always gone to Kearny Mesa Volkswagen and recently switched it up when we moved up to North County. Had a GREAT experience today! It was quick, they were straight to the point about what else I needed done outside of my oil change and even helped me out with switching out my car key battery. All around a really great experience from being greeted when I pulled up, both service guys were relaxed, not pushing and easy to talk with to the gal who checked me out who was very nice. Excited to have a new place to go to for oil changes thats close. Excited to start looking into a new or used Volkswagen from here too.

BE AWARE!!! Went there because it is a family owned business and i needed a car. I walked in and said to the man i first saw ( Will ) that my only question is if they had 0 down, 0% interest for 72. He said NO, sorry this deal is not until the end of the year. Almost walked out, when Lisa said from across kind of far away, let me check on the website, one sec so i stayed. She did find out that they had such financing options and so now i was willing to look at some cars. Loved the Tiquan SE, 2020, but didnt like the black exterior not the dark interior. Lisa said if we can find you a match in colors are you in. I said yes as long it is the silver color , light interior leather, the full moon roof and a good price im in. We negotiated with Connor (the son of the owner ) on the price and the exact same features of the black car , just siver. I put $1,000 refundable deposit which i never got recipt for, but thats ok i trusted them. I was happy. They ordered the car from another place and in less than 2 days the car came. I went and walked in , Lisa and Linda( contract lady) asked me to sign the papers, i said NO let me inspect the car first. Went outside , car looked great , as soon as i entered there was NO moon roof. Surprise! I was shocked. Connor came out said he made a mistake , didnt check the box for moon roof and purchase this car from another lot. I was ok, a bit upset but not a big deal , he said they will locate another car for me. Gave me a loaner. Then the new car came in , it was exactly what i wanted and negotiated. Signed the papers, went home , next day i saw they didnt give me the leather mats , privacy cover for the Cargo, first aid and road assistant kit, which is about $584. I called Lisa, she said well you are getting the car with what it is included in this car. I drove there showed them the pricing and the black car and the price we settled on. I had the paper with me. She took it then said she lost it, then the manager came and after calling Connor they gave me my stuff i paid for. What a nightmare. Few days later my steering wheel was making a noise when turning right/left and there were few wavy spots on the front hood i noticed when i washed the car. I brought it in and Eric (maintinance service manager) said the part came in and they will fix it. Great i got a LIFT to and from about $40, when i came back to pick up the car Alan said car is ready report said noise is now gone. I sat in the car and i thought let me check , turned the steering wheel and sure the noise was still present exactly how i brough it in. I was sooo mad, these people they are just playing games with peoples time and patientce. They told me they have to order a new part, ha! So i waisted my day, LIFT $$ and somehow the part failed again during my sitting on their lot not even moving. Wow! I emailed both Eric and Connor and noted all the details in the email, of course the son never called me back i left him a massage and Eric said we submitted your LIFT $$ to VW and you have to come again when we have loaner car so we can fix it. Sorry it failed less than 2 miles you drove he said. Sir i did not drive the car i sat on your lot in the car when i found out it was not fixed! Im filing a complaint with corporate for such a deceiving practice and never mind the $40 for LIFT, i guess corporate doesnt even know they sent the recipts, although Eric said he sent the recipts to corporate. The best part of Hermans Cook is the financing part but again that comes from corporate. So dont waiste your time, or make sure you inspect your car , and dont wait a call back from the owners son Connor, he is too busy to follow up. Dont do it!!!

Worst customer service experience Ive ever encountered. The manager its ride and an old school misogynistic muscle builder on steroids. Treats women with no respect by speaking over them and claims that they are telling when they are just being firm in speaking their mind on the terrible treatment from him and his staff. If a man spoke in the same time he would say they are not yelling. Sales people Cassie and JoJo promise phone calls back and never deliver. Not too mention the VWs have the worst fuel economy of any car Ive owned. Also got upgraded to the EQ Bond coating which actually robbed the fabric and caused more damage than good and yet I still have to pay for it. True car sales people.... Lied lies lies once they get your money its all disrespect and garbage service.

Dishonest. Took our deposit for a car they told us they had. Turned out they didn’t have it. It has been over 48 hours since we requested our deposit back and still have not gotten our money back. They say they will beat any price but treat you as a criminal when you negotiate. We went with kearny Mesa VW. Great service, no hassle, best deal from National City to Capistrano, by far! Even though the exact car I was looking for was not currently on the lot, Jojo and Steve located one and had me driving home in it within 24 hours. Linda in finance was a pleasure to work with also! Price for the car was incredibly fair, and I they offered a fair value for my trade-in as well. UPDATE 12.6.19.Ive received several correspondence over the past few days with Eric Axford, the service department manager, at Herman Cook VW. Let me tell you, the only thing that can make up for a less than perfect post sales experience / expectations is a great service department that backs there products. Eric has offered to fix and modify the drain ports that caused my issues. He has also offered to replace the headliner free of charge. Im very happy with the support his department provides for a defective VW system even though it isnt a model under the official recall. The VW dealership I visited when this issue occurred informed me that this is not covered under the CPO so I am very thankful for Eric and his team to go the extra mile to provide top notch customer support.ORIGINALI was told the CPO would cover sunroof leaks when I purchased the car... First large rain storm since I purchased it and now it’s a different story. Apparently there are clog ports above the headliner but under the roof that allows a loop hole so VW doesn’t necessarily have to cover this issue. Apparently it is considered “general maintenance” to clean these ports out that are located above the headliner but under the roof. Not sure how that works. Regardless, I wouldn’t have purchased a car with a weak spot literally the size of the roof if I was made aware of this of these issues and policies when I inquired about it. All and all I feel this CPO warranty is not worth it’s stated value and even fraudulent. I feel like my first major purchase through a dealership wasn’t correctly represented.

HERMAN COOK VW INSTALLED A USED TRANSMISSION - BUT TOLD ME IT WAS NEW!Transmission needed to be replaced in Dec. 2017 - Mileage was at only 23,699 miles!!!***CAR STILL UNDER NEW CAR PURCHASE WARRANTY***I requested and confirmed twice with Bill (Service Advisor) that I would be receiving a NEW Transmission. Bill confirmed each time that I would be receiving a NEW Transmission, so I let them service my car. What sits in my car today is NOT A NEW Transmission. (See attached photo of portions of documentation.)

I just wanna say yesterday I came in and spoke to Jonathan about prices on a set of four tired alignment and new front brake pads and rotors. I have been here to service my car several times because its conveniently located despite how unpleasant their Service Department is. Theyve had me over pay because no one looked into my warranty properly. Ive waited forever despite having an appointment while they just sit there on their computer without acknowledging you.They once called and said my car was ready, I showed up and waited a good 30 minutes for them to tell me they owed me a wash. Great experience buying a car from here, Id recommend it to anyone! Dealerships get a bad rep and much of it is deserved, but this location is so different. Kasi is an incredible saleswoman, and the manager Steve was instrumental in helping us out throughout the process. I walked in on a Saturday not really knowing what I wanted, and instead of trying to get me in the most expensive car, Kasi sat back and listened to what I wanted in a car, and recommended the Tiguan instead of the Atlas (what I originally thought I liked most). Her and Steve worked together to get me the best offer I could get on the car theyd knew Id like the most, and made it such an enjoyable afternoon (how many times do you say that about a dealership)? Its a super friendly atmosphere, you can tell they enjoy working together and are a good team. I will definitely be coming back here in the future, and have already told coworkers to stop in and ask for Kasi and Steve.

My technician joe Garcia completely took care of me. He explained what was going on with my car, what I could wait in fixing and what needed to be fixed immediately. Herman cook has a great employee in joe!!

Absolutely love Herman cook Volkswagen in Encinitas! My service tech Alan always goes above and beyond to make sure my Eurovan is running great no matter how big or small the problem is. The staff is always very friendly and professional and there prices are very fair too. I would never take my car anywhere else!

I honestly don’t understand what’s going on here... your customer service and business practices are sketchy... don’t be surprised if this dealership is under investigation any day now.

I would very strongly caution against getting your car serviced here. I have been here three times in the past month for what really amounts to one time of servicing because of issues. I went in the middle of September to do my 100,000 mile service and specifically to get my breaks looked at, as I have done twice already in the past year because I’ve never replaced them. I got spark plugs, and some other things. At this servicing, they told me my breaks were absolutely fine (6mm), no issues, said I needed to replace one of my tires because it was at 4/32, said I needed to replace the bushings and the gas pump. They said the gas pump would be okay to not be replaced, but I would see some drops of oil on the ground.I kept seeing a lot of oil on the ground; so, I decided to take it back 3 weeks later to finish getting everything else. Almost immediately, I was called to say that the tire that was supposed to be replaced absolutely wasn’t even close to needing replacement as it was at 7/32. Okay, no big deal. One issue. Next was that the break pump also apparently wasn’t just leaking a lot in the ground but was leaking all inside my car, so I guess it was something that I shouldn’t have waited to get done. Then, I got told my breaks in the back were at only 1mm and wouldn’t last more than a couple thousand miles before they were grinding on metal. The dealership did pay for the service for replacing the break pads. But at this point, I’m still $2000 into maintenance in my car with mechanics who can not diagnose if a tire should be replaced or the difference between 6mm and 1 mm breakpads.The next day, I start hearing this tapping noise. It didn’t go away; so, I had to take a third day off of work and take my car back in. Apparently, the break pump was having issues; the $945 break pump!!! I did receive a complimentary rental car, but at this point, I have also wasted 3 days, had to take those days off of work, and I’ve also sunk a ton of money into the vehicle. And we all know car maintenance being done at a dealership is absurdly more expensive than getting it done out in town. When I went to get my car, the salesman, whose fault this isn’t, apologized, but the manager or no one came out to talk to me. You’re employing cut rate mechanics and charging people tons of money to trust that you have VW trained technicians who have the knowledge to properly service and maintain vehicle, but you do not have that.I wish I had read other people’s comments about their issues with service here. It seems like people had good purchasing experiences, but again, I would caution against buying a car at a dealership that you then cannot trust to service that vehicle. There are so many other VW dealerships in the area. Take your business somewhere else unless you’re okay with wasting time and money.

I went for oil change i got zero customer service special from service crew up front , these un experienced service person just give attitude not want to help.i dont recommend.

I leased my Jetta from Steve Walsh just a few days ago. After dealing with so many other dealerships where I felt like I couldnt trust the salesmen, something was different and stood out about this place.I wish I would have come to this dealership first and saved myself the hassle....I called Steve, told him what I was looking for and when I got to the dealership, he had the perfect car cleaned and ready for me to test drive. I looked at other cars too...but Steve chose the right car for me from the start and I wound up going with that one.He then worked out an amazing deal....a deal so great that I didnt even feel the need to negotiate.I didnt feel pressured, hassled or uncomfortable at any point.This is how car buying should be. There are so many stereotypes about car salesmen that you cant trust...and them trying to add on as many features as they can to get you to buy more. Steve felt out my lifestyle, financial situation etc. and found a car and a deal that worked for me.Im glad I came to Herman Cook VW.Oh, and my car is beautiful and drives great :)
