This business has been permanently closed since August 2020. The former owner did not care to update this fact on his Google small business page. For bike repairs, I recommend J & R Cycle & Ski which is about 2 miles down the road , and has great service.

I just refreshed my two prized bikes at Stemples, it was amazing.I had my Trek road bike tuned for the upcoming triathlon season, grips replaced, fresh tires and shift lines replaced. The bike rides better than new and looks so dope with the new colors they picked for me.A few weeks prior, my Niner was also refreshed here for the MTB season, with some new tires, a dropper post expertly installed, and a little tune. Both times the experience was great, and the bikes had been handled with care and well cleaned afterwards. All things considered, they will be my go-to local shop for all things pedal-sports.

They have gotten something terribly wrong every time Ive gone in. For instance, I went for an overpriced 2-week-long tune-up, and Im not sure they cleaned or replaced any parts. When I got my bike back, the rear brake was obviously disconnected and no-one noticed until I brought it up (loudly)I thought I would give them a second chance, so I went in looking for a new wheel. The guy seemed to think I wanted a tire. These mistakes would be funny if they werent dangerous.

I have never taken the time to write a negative review before, but this was so obnoxious I feel the need to warn others. Being new to the area we were excited to find our go-to local bike shop. We brought 2 of our bikes in for a simple tune ups, and some strange noises coming from my wifes Felt. When we walked in they were absolutely swamped, credit card machine was down, and floor was empty with people still walking in. It was by far the busiest I have ever seen a bike shop. The employees were very understandably a bit flustered. We waited, told them what we needed, and one of the employees told us it should be 1-2 weeks (in fairness, the ticket said 3 weeks, but I was hoping the verbal was accurate). We said okay, and left with our service tickets.Fast-forward 2 weeks, I began calling to check in to see if my Trek would be ready for my ride up to McHenry. When I called they assured me they would make every effort but that they were busy. I then called the Wednesday before my weekend ride and they told me it wouldnt be ready for Saturday. I decided to just come pick the bike up and do the work myself - no shade on Stemples...they were swamped - I get it. When I came into the shop I let the girl at the front know I was picking up my bike before the work was done and she said she would grab it for me. Then, who I am assuming is the owner, begins to YELL AND CUSS at me calling me a liar that nobody ever told me 1-2 weeks. I told him I was sure I heard that, but I wasnt upset I just simply needed my bike (1 of 2 at Stemples). He continued to call me a liar in front of other customers and told me they dont do business with liars. Against my better judgement I still left my wifes Felt there for the service. Worst experience as a customer I have had in any context. Unbelievable. Then, to make matters worse, my wife picked up her Felt and despite their claims NOTHING WAS FIXED. Furthermore, there was so much lube on the chain it was spraying onto the frame. They also lowered to seat to something akin to a BMX bike and when my wife told them it should be much higher (this is a drop-bar gravel/adventure bike), they said no, she was wrong that it was OK. Long story short, I really wanted to like this place but havent had a good experience in 2 attempts to give them business. I went over to JR Cycles to pick up a couple things and strongly recommend anyone looking for a bike shop to go there instead.

Go literally anywhere else. The experts are snobs who clearly need to learn how to fix a bicycle. Just read the rest of the reviews if you dont believe me.

I was in market for a bike for my Son. We stopped by this store to browse and was greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff. They explained what options were available for my son and properly fit him for a bicycle. The pricing seemed to be fair. We will definitely be returning to this store in the future.

We live in Elmhurst and we were recently in the market for a bike for my daughter. We stopped by this store to browse and was greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff. They took the time to explain the different models and properly fit my daughter for a bicycle. They also helped us pick out a helmet and size it correctly. The pricing seemed to be in line with other local shops. We will definitely be returning to this store in the future.

I have been riding and racing bikes for decades (it is my primary mode of transportation), yet this particular unprofessional and inconsiderate salesperson/bike repairman found it appropriate to laugh at me when I was trying to ask questions about their current models and go for a test ride. There are plenty of bike stores in the area, so unless this individual works on his interpersonal skills, I recommend shopping elsewhere.***I just read the owners response to my review, which he wrote three weeks after the incident, and now I need to address his blatant lies because, not only his mechanic, but now even the owners publicly posted behavior has become disgustingly unprofessional. For clarity, I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN A NEGATIVE REVIEW BEFORE this incident:I was not pretending to be more knowledgeable whatsoever. I had a lot of questions about their models of Giant bikes. I had questions about the total weights of various bikes, their various components, their high-end models, and their prices, which were not clearly marked. The owner claims I demanded to ride their bikes, which is ridiculous; I simply asked. How does someone even demand to ride a shops bike? But the worst lie of all was that he states I used inappropriate language. The owner was outside the shop test riding a bike in the parking lot. While he was going back and forth, I attempted to briefly explain to him how arrogantly rude his salesman was, but again, the owner was more concerned about test riding a bike, so it was an altogether awkward situation, so I just left, and Google asked if I wanted to write a review, so I did.Message to Stemples owner: either you are lying to save your shops poor ratings, or your salesman is lying to you. Please specifically state what inappropriate language was said. Your lies are not appreciated.I can comprehend that retail business is difficult, especially with everything being purchased online these days, but lying is an awful way to increase your business ratings.Thoroughly annoyed.

These guys are great. We purchased a strider bike for our son a year ago - on their recommendation - and our first pedal bike tonight. Our son is 3 and riding a bike. They stayed open late to get the bike set up and then the owner showed up to watch us teaching our son to ride in the neighboring church parking lot - his advice!.I don’t think dicks or target or any other big box would have done that.We have always felt good about Stemples, but this was over the top. We’re customers for life, and our neighbors are too.

I had them do a tune up on my bike after I got hit by a car. They were really helpful and took good care of my bike. They prevented me from having to buy a new chain wheel by bending my old one back to its original shape. The only problem I had was they set my seat too high for some reason. I had it set where I wanted it. But when I rode it the first time after picking it up it was way too high and I could barely reach the pedals when they were at the bottom. It is my own fault for not testing it out before I left the shop, but I dont get why they changed the height so much without asking.Overall a great shop and a great experience.

Went there to check on availability of some bicycle parts and tools, the salesman rather than advising on the subject bragged how their community doesn’t demand used parts or bike tools because they would bring their bikes to the shop to fix them. Not a real bike shop - apparel, flashy bikes on a podium and that’s all about it.
