Several states have a Mitsuwa marketplace. But this one is unique. It over looks the Hudson River. THEY USED TO CALL THE EAST VILLAGE IN NYC (MANHATTAN ) Little Tokyo. You can still find articles on line about it. But after 911 many of the Japanese moved to North Jersey. The food used to be authentic Japanese. The whole area was. And the restaurants were really good. But other Asians started to mix in so it has become a little diluted lately but still unique and there is nothing like it in NYC. ( I am Chinese so this is not to disparage other Asians)There is a Japanese themed knock off of it in Brooklyn called Japan village but it is just themed not truly Japanese. NYC has since 911 lost its culture! We do not even have the great restaurants that NYC used to have!Anyway for a true authentic Japanese experience head to Mitsuwa marketplace in Waters Edge NJ.

Love this place, been coming here for years. I showed pictures of this place to my friend who lives in Japan, and she said she thought I was in Japan, which tells you how authentic this place is. Unfortunately, I dont live right around the corner so whenever I get the chance to come here I appreciate the brief culture shock of coming to this place, for a moment you can believe youve travelled across the Pacific.

Japanese supermarket with a wide selection of Japanese groceries. I love the variety of snacks and drinks available. It can get pretty busy on the weekends. There’s a decent size parking lot but it’s shared with the few stores in the plaza. There’s a food court inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace that offers lots of delicious Japanese favorites at affordable prices. My go to are the spicy ramen at Santoka and the tendon at Hannosuke. The mochi donuts and cream yaki make a great dessert/snack too. They also have mini claw machines near the main entrance too.

I’ve been coming to this place since I was really young. I’ve always loved the snacks and the sushi they have, but the food court here absolutely slaps. The rice balls are amazing, the kimchi fried rice and crab omelette are amazing, and my favorite counter makes curry that is always incredible. Also they occasionally have specials and pop ups that I always buy from.

This place is amazing!!! Was just passing through on our way back to Allentown, PA so sad its a 2hr drive from me, after I discovered they sell my favorite Chocolate Thunder Bars and Chip Puffs here! I cant find those anywhere near me expect ordering them online and pay $30+ for 1 bag. Most everything was very affordable for being internationally imported goods. Even cheaper than my local Asian market. This store also has many many vendors, I wish I had time to eat would have loved to try authentic Ramen. They also had kastu dishes, shrimp tempura, and red bean paste desserts and much much more. I did however try mochi donuts and they were absolutely amazing!! I honestly wish I bought more than 2, the Blueberry creme was my favorite.

I LOVE THIS MARKET!! It has the best selection of Asian cuisine. If you love Ramen you need to try out the food court. The store is always spotless and so is the food court. Even though the place is always paced they do their best to keep it clean. I highly recommend checking it out. The side shops are always fun to look through and their choices of Japanese beer is amazing. I literally drive over an hour to get there and it is worth it every single time. Ive never had a bad experience and I will continue to go.The one downside is parking, but thats definitely not a reason not to go!

Really awesome favorite place to go and get great food and snacks! Really busy on Saturdays and Sundays so bring a jacket cause sometimes the line wraps around the building. Also you cannot buy electronics on Sunday & you cant purchase alcohol before 1pm on Sunday.Getting their early means smaller lines so I always recommend that and apparent weekdays arent super busy either.☆ pro-tip recommend bring a cooler in your car for cold stuff since theres also really cool stores you can go to near by.They even have small stores inside as well as to-go food ♡

This is by far the most comprehensive Japanese supermarket selling Japanese goods that I have ever been to, but do keep in mind that I am not from the NJ area and am about 2 hours away. While the store does not have every Japanese good compared to a supermarket in Japan, it is still quite good! Be aware that there is often a line to go inside the store in the afternoons due to its popularity, and of course, COVID-19. I would say I waited in line for about 10-15 min.

Been here multiple times in the past, still loves going there. This past weekend I went specifically for their matsutake mushrooms. The mushrooms were about $10 each. I understand that in Japan there is a special section for worm bitten mushrooms that are marked. You can usually check if there are worms by cutting the bottom of the mushroom, if you see lots of mini holes, it’s worm bitten. In that event, you have to soak it in salt water for the worms to come out, a lot of work and not very appetizing. I bought two packs and one pack, containing two mushrooms was fine, the other with three mushrooms were all worm bitten and had worms living in it. It is American Matsutake not the ones from Asia. I would look into other sources next year. Just wanted to post this so buyers can take an extra look when picking out matsutakes :)

This is the most magical and amazing supermarket in all of New Jersey! I absolutely love this place! It’s not very close to where I live but I make the drive almost every weekend! If you do go be prepared to wait in line up to 30 min to get in especially on the weekends! With the whole pandemic going on they are only able to have a certain number of people in the building at the same time. Once inside there is aisle after aisle of amazing Japanese goods! I usually start at the back and pick up some onigiri or delicious, freshly made sushi. They also have ready to eat meals on the weekend. They have an impressive collection of Japanese snacks and really high quality meat and fish.If you’re a fan of sake there is an entire aisle of it! Their frozen section has a lot of good food as well. Near the checkout is a bakery that has really solid stuff as well. Definitely try their melon pan with chocolate chips....amazing!When you’re done shopping they have an amazing food court with tons of delicious options. The ramen and curry are solid choices. There is also an onigiri stand that makes a lot of really good varieties. My favorites are the spicy bomb, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna and spam with egg. Mitsuwa is a staple here in North Bergen. If you want a wide variety of imported Japanese products, this is the place. They sell everything from Japanese snacks to some of the best mochi I have ever tasted. They also have a wide variety of imported Japanese liquors to try. On the other side of the store is their food court which sells different Japanese cuisine, they have a bakery in the corner selling crepes, a ramen shop, a shop that specializes in onigiri and much more. Before COVID, they host a variety events throughout the year, they have the summer festival that happens every August and a Hokkaido event where they sell products from Hokkaido, Japan. Keep in mind that there can be long lines to get in due to their limit capacity because of COVID. I recommend coming in just before the food court opens (11am) since lines are much shorter than if you would go later in the day.

It doesnt have much more than H-Mart or other Asian stores, theres lines to enter, and the general vibe is that of chaos. I dont blame the store, though. Judging by what other consumers were doing, its actually our fault. Sometimes it seemed like you were part of the hunger games. I just went to look around, rather than do proper grocery shopping, so maybe that is it felt that way. The staff were nice. They also control that there are not as many people inside to keep social distancing. Probably because of that, paying was actually pretty fast.
