Huge selection with many authentic Chinese cooking stuffs. Staff went out of their way to help me look for a few things and took orders for some of the brands they didnt have. VERY happy I can have access to such variety after coming from China.

It has been ten plus years since I visited this store and I was so surprised. The small shops have all closed except for the sushi place. The store seems run down. They used to have hot food take out and that has closed. It looks like it became a make shift employee buffet. The fish market has seen better days. Some of the fish were cloudy eyed and did not look appetizing at all. Overall the place needs a makeover and the fish market needs to be scrubbed, sanitized and stocked with top quality fish. The foam that collects in the fish tanks indicate the water needs to be changed or the protein skimmer is not working properly. After what I witnessed its a combination of the two. Also a word of advice, if you have boxes stacked in front of your freezers and you can not see what they contain, customers will most likely not purchase those hidden products.

I have mixed feelings about this market. It was very well stocked with products Im not really familiar with. The fish dept was iffy. I didnt like the presentation of the fish, had a sub standard look to it. The produce dept was fine, with a good verify. The prepared food dept was again sub standard looking to me. I didnt check the butcher section. The store was very cold, and the workers werent customer friendly, but it could have been a language thing. I will say this. Having worked in the Chinatown section of Manhattan, this store followed suit, but if this store wants to attract the suburban shopper whos never seen this, they wont unless they change some things. Until then theyll get their restaurant owners, and the customers they already have, but l believe first time shoppers will in most cases be last time shoppers. That being said, most of the store was fine.

Been going here for almost all of my Chinese groceries/goods for more than 10 years. The prices are cheap and almost all of the products are fresh as well. Also, almost all of the staff speaks both English and Chinese so you can easily interact with the staff ( butcher/cashier/fish person/etc) if you cant speak either Chinese or English.

Dont understand all the negative reviews. As one reviewer said, this is not Whole Foods. As a matter of fact, not many grocery stores are. You cant beat the price and selection for Asian groceries at this place. The veggies are always fresh and the prices are outstanding. Hugh selection of dry goods and prices are so much cheaper than the local Asian grocers in Bergen and Morris counties. I come here 4 times a year to load up. The pastry shop sells very fresh Chinese buns also. This place offers Chinatown prices without having to travel to NYC.

Had to chime in on the 5 star reviews, this place is not what it used to be. Anyone giving this place a 5 star, is an employee. The shelves are empty nothing is fresh. Went to H Mart this weekend for the first time in years because this place has gone down the drain.

Place is not well kept. I almost slipped on wet vegetables on the floor. Some veggies are already wilted but still for sale. The dessert was old, didnt realized until I got home and tasted it - it was still on the shelves for sale. Cheap produce and seafood compared to regular chain grocery stores but dont dare getting meats (especially if its in the frozen section)!

Updated review on 2/21/2019:Hong Kong supermarket has gradually going down the drain in terms of quality of the food. I was there last weekend (only because it was convenient). I bought some purple yam and then some cucumber among other things. Both the yam and the cucumbers turned bad within a day, mole starting to grow and started to rot. Only thing I can think of is that they offer very bad quality grocery, that both would rot so quickly. They have a reputation among the Chinese shoppers that you have to be very careful when you buy grocery there, because a lot of times the bad grocery are mixed in with the good appearance grocery. Among the other items that have no expiration days, so you cant tell when the food expires. Both me and my wife decided never to go back again. That would be the end of my ever going to Hong Kong supermarket again.---------------------------------------------------------From previous review:Sometimes they got good stuff with low prices, but its hard to tell what the quality of food you got since they dont put expiration date on the package.

Sorry to say, this once beloved Asian supermarket has allowed itself to decay beyond belief. There are still some redeeming qualities here:Hard to find Asian items, foods, etc.Good roast meats and some hot dishes. My favorite shrimp chips for frying.Fresh fish and a butcher/meat area.Other than that - this place is dirty, and lately, many empty shelves. It seems some items are going out of stock and not being re-stocked.The staff here, while not unfriendly, look sad and depressed.Sadly, with newer markets like 99 Ranch Market and H-Mart and even Kam-Man not far from here, I dont find much of a reason to come here anymore like I used to.It does make me sad that they appear not to care much about what was once a really awesome place to shop for hard to find Asian grocery items.I hope they can fix this and become the shining jewel they once were.

I think this place is going downhill. I remember coming here last few years and it used to have lots of fun and exciting eateries inside the store and clean place . The people working there weren’t so helpful either. Anyways I went there Saturday and pick up some snacks, and didn’t realize until today when I went to go eat it, it has been molded. Seriously!!? I haven’t gotten it that long, it’s only been 4 days, these packers should take note of items that are selling. It’s gross, thank goodness I didn’t give it to the kids to eat. Never buying snacks from here, and never coming back

Dirty supermarket, veggie are ok. Some are on the verge of expiring. Open 365 day. Last resort if your regular supermarket is closed or to far.Update- they tried to fix that place up by cleaning and painting, but still can not compare to the new ranch 99 and Hmart.Unless they draw people in by reducing the prices to grab people over, otherwise people will not come. Also that took away the 10% off on Tuesdays discount. Added 1 more star for trying to fix the place up. From 2 to 3.

Shriveling and moldy...while I looked for the root, I noticed other fruits looked overripe and some decaying/moldy/dry...could not believe a store would let produce set out for so long. Leaves a bad impression. Dry goods seemed okay however. Green tea cakes tasted good. But I will not be going back....store was very dirty.

The place recently underwent some sort of renovation. You cant tell from the looks of it because the renovation made the aisles even more narrow and the terrible smell at the entrance of the store only got worse. I used to come here fairly frequently since I work in the area but never again after my most recent trip in April 2014.Reasons: Nasty odor upon entering the store; a lot of the fresh meat do not seem fresh; same goes for the vegetables; some of their packaged goods are brands Ive never heard of and I suspect are cheap products from China instead of better brands from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, or Korea; no one bothers to clean up outside the store so theres a chance of being swept up in a garbage tornado on windy days. I feel bad for the nice sushi place inside the same mall. Must be terrible dealing with such horrible landlord/fellow-tenant.They run a nice 10% off promotion on Tuesdays and of course, the lunchtime crowds flock there. Yet, they will only have two cashiers working. I spent a longer time waiting in line to check out than it took me to shop. With quite a few Asian grocery stores to choose from in a ten mile radius, I rather just go to H-Mart and Kam Man in Edison than this garbage dump.

My husband and I frequent this store quite a bit. I only go there for certain things, but whatever we buy is always good, especially their cabbage and bok choy. However, since when does a grocery store allow dogs inside? I am an animal lover, and no disrespect to anyone who owns a dog, but as we were checking out, the people that worked there allowed dogs to sit on the conveyor belt where food was being placed. I think it is very unsanitary, and it should not continue. It makes me think twice before ever going there again. It is a shame because we really like it there.
