Decades of memories of these chocolates and candies shared as the centerpiece of holidays from Easter to Christmas! We recently ordered pounds for a gathering of friends and though the package was delayed by the shipping company, the management of Betty Janes and staff made the delivery happily happen. A Dubuque treasure, not just for the delicious chocolates and candies (Gremlins are a must-try), but also the amazing house made ice cream. Try the aforementioned Gremlins in either chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Or both, as pictured.

Got sick on the peach ice cream cone that night. Food poisoning is what I think. Also, poor customer service when there. Took caramel apples home. They were good!

Carmel apples are a disappointment this year...barely any carmel on the apples.

Excellent. One might think $5 a scoop is a bit much but their scoop is like three scoops anywhere else. Their chocolate is also amazing.

Love the candy. This store didnt have too much in the way of gift box variety. That may be due to going right before Valentines day. Will visit the other location next time. Bought candy as gifts and they enjoyed them.

Most wonderful ice cream! Had the gremlin-nilla and my wife had the caramel cashew. Large scoops and super yummy. If youre passing through Dubuque, its very worth the stop. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well.

If you have a girlfriend that you upset, then buying her chocolate, candy, and ice cream from here is way better than flowers. They make a lot of stuff in house which is awesome. Your girlfriend will appericate that you are helping a local community and not another big corporation, like when you took her out for your anniversary at Olive Garden. The staff are very helpful with all the choices they offer. Betty Jane for the win and helping me get some nookie. 👊

They staff was slow and unfriendly. The store was chaotic to say the least. They also charged me for my friends ice cream as well as her for her own. I will not be coming back ever again.

I have loved their chocolates for 50 years. But it seems like something has changed. The caramels are always soft now while they claim nothing has changed. I like the caramel more firm.

Absolutely delicious and fresh candies! If you are from out of town or even a local I recommend stopping here. Its always a quick and inexpensive trip. I just love the smell as soon as you walk in. Try it and you will see what I mean.

I have been a customer for 50 yrs but doubt if I will EVER shop there again. I went there last week and wanted a one pond box of creams, half chocolate and half vanilla. Imagine my surprise when I was told there is a $4.00 up-charge if I wanted 2 different flavors in the box. However I could get an entire pound for the regular price if I only had one flavor in the box. It takes the same amount of employee time to fill a box with one flavor or 2 so the $4.00 extra doesnt make any rational sense. That leaves the reason as being pure greed. I posted my dissatisfaction on their FB page but havent heard a peep out of them so they must not care if they anger their customers and lose business. This place hasnt been the same since it was sold to the new owners in 2011. They seem to have made arbitrary changes and just want to tout their Hollywood success rather than continuing to be a candy store for those who have supported them for many years. I will be going down the road to Galena for future candy purchases. Its only 13 miles away, has several candy stores with quality that is just as good as Betty Jane, and will let me buy the candies I want in the quantities I choose without price gouging.

The best candy is called Gremlins. This is a carmel pecan candy covered in chocolate (milk and dark chocolate) tremendous amount of truffle like candies. During the summer it has a great gremlin Candy ice cream, (as well as others)

Not the Betty Janes we grew up knowing. Placed an order online last week. Never received confirmation that it was ready, called and nobody ever answers the Asbury location phone. Stopped after work to pick the order up and had the rudest young lady ever help me. She couldnt find the order, after waiting a couple minutes she comes back out with the printed order and said yeah they are not ready. I said I wanted them cancelled and the money refunded back to the card. She said they would refund the money when they have time. No that isnt the way that works, refund now. Will never order, or step foot inside of their stores.

The best chocolates anywhere. Try there Gremlins, they are to die for . world famous. Were served at a awards banquet in Hollywood.

Still the best in Dubuque, but not what it used to be. I have written to the company and they denied any changes and touted their awards and Grammy status. The fact is, the gremlin select topper pecans are not the same large, perfect pecans they used to be. Also the caramel in the gremlins, caramels and caramel apples is much less viscous than it used to be. This changes the experience. Finaly, the caramel apples used to have the highest quality apples and that is no longer the case. Because the caramel is less viscous, it makes a thinner coat on the apple. I didnt mind paying for the delightful treat they used to be, and I proudly bought them as gifts. But now they are less special. I know several people who wont buy them any more. Younger people wont know the difference. And there is no competition so the company for now can get away with a little lower standard. But we old timers know the difference. My mother was a confectioner, my father and grandfather were bakers, I worked in a French restaurant in college, and my family was also in the restaurant business, so we are very foods-oriented (admittedy too much so). My point is: some of us CAN discern a difference, were proud of the quality Betty Jane used to stand for, and wouldnt bat an eye at paying a premium for something that is VERY special to give as a gift or treat. Now that Betty Jane has become less of a Dubuque Darling some of us look for other stand-out, best-in-class items or services to gift our loved ones. My suggestion would be to heed our feedback, earnestly seek and achieve the old quality, then raise prices as needed and advertise what you have done. I would gladly come back for the original quality caramel apples and gremlins and pay accordingly. Best to you.

I absolutely love this place! We stop in every time we are back in Dubuque visiting. The chocolate is to die for and the staff is always kind and thoughtful. The product line has expanded in the past few years and I love it!

Very helpful. Candy isnt as good as in previous yrs. Not certain why. Still good though & I love the Easter eggs.

My mom used to take me here as a kid to pick out candy fruit slices. You can get a bag of them but cant pick out the ones you want anymore. Still a great place, love the gremlins.

My brother visits Betty Jane when he comes to Dubuque from the East Coast. The Ice cream, candies, etc have been excellent. This Thanksgiving the sealed box of gremlins were stale! The truffles hand boxed were fine. Please beware that the sealed box chocolates in our case were not good.I think it would be a good business practice to indicate on sealed boxes an expiration date to maintain quality control.

Ice cream was delicious. Service was friendly and excellent. Wish they had cookie dough though.

The ice cream is good...the Gremlins are better.

USED to be excellent.I bought choc covered cashews, always a favorite. The quality is poor, the milk choc was a very thin coating and chalky.Also bought 3 carmel apples. Of the 3, one was riddled with bruises and had a very off taste. At $4.25 an apple I was disappointed in the quality.Overall a bad experience and will not be returning unless their quality improves.

Best ice cream in Dubuque, I dont care what anyone has to say. If you want hand scooped ice cream, go here. And of course their chocolates are delicious!

Came for the weekend from Rockford, il and decided to take the 10mins drive from the hotel and definitely worth it. They even give us samples, the price was fair and great service.

If you like candy and chocolate, this is the place to go in Dubuque. You cant leave without buying some gremlins. It should be illegal to go to Betty Janes without purchasing gremlins. They are goooood.

Try to order 2 lbs. of candy today, like I have done the last 5 years. It is Monday 12/18/17 and they couldnt guarantee Christmas delivery in town to Flexsteel Headquarters, unless I paid $34 extra for 2 day delivery! No thank you, I will call a different candy company. Customer service stinks.

I am a chocolate SNOB! I came to Iowa because my husbands family lives there. They live right around the corner from the mall. My sis in law took me to this little candy store. IT WAS AWESOME!!! I went again on my next trip (it was caramel apple season) and oh my goodness..I just about bought out the store to take home to Florida. I cant even go into the store that starts with a G anymore (LOL), My favs are the caramal marshmallow bar and the caramel apple. Price is good, chocolate is great - I just need a store locally and life would be perfect!
