I was passing through Dubuque on a long tour when I developed rear hub problems. It was Sunday and I noticed that the Bike Shack was open. I took my bicycle to them and in less than 90 minutes they diagnosed the problem, fixed my hub, cleaned my chain, instructed me on the proper way to lube the chain and adjusted my derailleurs all for a fair price. I highly recommend the Bike Shack for all your bicycle needs. They are friendly, competent and fair. Thank you for keeping me on my tour!

I went in looking to purchase a hybrid bike. A younger gentleman working the floor couldn’t be bothered to get off his cell phone and help and when I finally approached him after walking around the showroom alone for 5min he seemed bothered by my questions. I am new to biking so I may have had some dumb questions but he was not having it. I was ready to purchase a bike $550-700 that day. I left and bought a bike downtown that day at a local shop.

I purchased from them a few years ago for my daughters bike and was pleased. But this is about how helpful they were when I needed a big box to return an item and they were very accommodating. Taking the time is priceless and with a smile even better. Thank you to all their staff.

This is why I shop local! My seat and post got stolen by some dbag. I took it to the bike shack to be replaced. With COVID, parts are pretty slim. Two different employees ended up piecing together a full post and seat for me. I ended up only paying for the post itself!! The seat and the plate to attach the seat to the post were taken off of donor bikes. So kind!I have gotten other work done there before and have had similar experiences. Would definitely recommend!

Great service and knowledgeable people. Disappointed they are shying away from servicing our electric Rad Power Bikes and hope this doesnt prevent us from using them in the future.

I am very, very picky about my bike stores because I own expensive bikes, and I do a lot of my own maintenance. I had a warranty issue on a bike I purchased out of town, and some bike shops in town are very negative if you bring in a bike not purchased at their store, so I was super nervous walking in. Dan and the service department were super chill and dealt with my obnoxious and detailed explanation of what was going on, and let me leave with my bike while they processed the claim. Turns out I had to bring my bike back in and leave it for them to trouble shoot a few things, but they were great at communicating with me and the turn around time was fantastic considering they had to wait on parts to be delivered. I got my bike back and everything was working perfect. I would highly recommend them for service, and they have a great selection of bikes too 👍🏽

Great experience and super friendly. I had no idea how to shop for a bike. I gave a price range and was so impressed that there was no attempt to up-sell. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. This was not the case at another local bike store I went to, that tried to double my price range.I came back to Bike Shack to make my purchase, and will encourage friends and family to do the same.

OVERPRICED, small selection. Not even willing to give 10% On a $450 item to save a sale. You want to shop locally but its businesses like this that make it nearly impossible. In response to owner...I was shown only one table and there was no offer to order another model. It was a take it or leave it attitude. I left it and ordered online.

I have been on four rides - super smooth shifting, all damage niely repaired. Rides great thanks to Bike Shack. Jack Bernhardt

Had a few issues during the purchase. I listed my concerns on a previous Google review. Pam called me and addressed my concerns. I genuinely feel like she cares about the service to their customers. My son loves his Haro and after speaking with Pam I feel much better about my purchase.

Ive been looking for a good place to buy a bike in town, and I see that the owner responds to positive reviews on here, but appears to have completely ignored the post by user Casey Stelken, whose wife seems to have had a terrible experience here. That alone earns this place one star from me.Unless someone replies on here and tells me that the owner contacted Mr. Stelken and his wife and resolved their problems (in which case I would hope Mr. Stelken would change or update his review), then theres no way Im shopping here.

I have been to this store several times and they have generally been helpful. However, I have had a couple of instances where I felt like I was condescended to and pushed around because I was a woman. It wasnt overt, but if youre a woman you know what that feels like.

Crappy customer service, and what a MASSIVE waste of our time!My wife recently decided she wanted a bike. Knowing nothing about bikes, she went to the Bike Shack in her old home town of Dubuque (we now live in Cedar Rapids), and the young man working there narrowed down a bicycle that would be a good fit for her based on her usage goals. She ordered the bike, which would have to be shipped in and assembled by the staff before she could come pick it up and pay for it. Thats understandable. We came to Dubuque a week later when the bike was due to be ready. The young man who helped her narrow down the bike (and who had ordered and assembled it for her) went into the back to look for it, and couldnt find it.Turns out, someone else had removed the hold for customer tag from it, and sold it to someone else. This is the first thing that pissed me off that day. We now wasted THREE HOURS of our time and gas money to drive from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque (and back) for a bike that we were told would be ready by the weekend, it was sold out from under us to someone else who walked in.Not once did we hear even the word sorry from anyone working there during our time in the store. Far from it. No one expressed an ounce of remorse. It was basically, Yeah, looks like your bike got sold to someone else. Another guy working there offered us another bike: I know this one isnt $350 like the one you want, but itll serve the same purpose. Its only $495. Is that in your price range? They not only showed us little-to-no sympathy for the fact that they wasted our time and gas money, but now theyre offering a bike thats $145 MORE than the one that was supposed to be ready for us?? What the hell was he thinking? I was so damn furious, that I had to walk outside and wait so that I wouldnt make a scene and hurt somebody. When my wife came out, she told me that the guy who tried to sell her the more expensive bike had found, in the store, another of the same model bike she ordered, but instead of the black-and-purple color scheme that she ordered, it was green. One of her favorite colors is purple...which is why she had them order the purple bike! The guy made some smartass comment about how The color of the bike wont affect how it rides. Are my wife and I insane to think that if shes spending $350 on a goddamn bicycle, she might as well like the way it looks? And is that any kind of remark to make to a paying customer? I was so angry, I was about to go back in there, but my wife was able to diffuse me. What angered me most was that I felt like the guy had probably assumed he could now be more condescending to my wife because her husband had gone outside, and if theres one thing I cant tolerate, its when a man talks down to a woman. So it was probably a good thing I was outside when he said that.I really wanted to drop them and look elsewhere, but my wife was tired of looking for bicycles, and is more forgiving than I am, so she asked them to order and assemble the same bike for her AGAIN, and we eventually made another 3-hour round-trip to Dubuque AGAIN to pick it up.Oh well. At least my wife likes her bike so far. So it wasnt a total loss. Personally, Im just trying to forget about it and move on, but so far, every time I look at her bike it reminds me of the crappy service and utter lack of empathy we received in their store. My wife noticed that they stuck a Bike Shack sticker with their logo on her $350 bike, so she peeled it off to avoid future reminders of the experience.Later, she called to explain her experience to a manager, who also showed zero empathy, and said, Well, you didnt pre-pay for the bike.My wife was NEVER told that she could (or should) pre-pay for the bike.Heres another funny note: The first time we decided to go for a ride, I noticed that her bike has a more complicated gear-shifting system than Im used to. I asked her how it worked, and how she shifts it, and she replied, Um, I dont know. They didnt really tell me anything.Delightful.
