A truly elegant and formal dining experience! perfection for my birthday! The mushroom crusted scallops were amazing, slightly too salty, but very yummy! The goat cheese board was a hit! I’ll definitely be back for that! Beat and bleu salad was yummy! And the creme brûlée was fantastic as always, I’ve never met a bad one! 5 stars and beyond! Thank you Roost for hosting our group of 10 in your private party room!
We went in a large group and I was impressed from start to finish. They were fabulous with taking my reservation. We had our own waiter Ian who was AMAZINGLY patient and kind with taking our many orders and answering all our questions. I cannot recommend this place enough. Delicious food, great wine and cocktails, but most importantly: awesome service!
Definitely could have had a better experience considering this is an upscale Italian restaurant. For the most part everything was okay. There were six of us celebrating a birthday. Service was very slow. The waitress said she was in a hurry because she had five other tables. We had to cut our after dinner plans short due to the extended time we were there. Two of us got the chicken and it was very dry. Everyone else enjoyed their meal. They did bring free dessert for two of us that did not order dessert. And free limoncello shots at the end. I dont mind paying the price when the meal and service deserves it. That wasnt the case tonight. Oh and I was charged a $1.50 for ice when I wanted my drink on the rocks. 🤔
Hard to believe a business is run like this one. We had reservations for our anniversary on Wednesday night. We showed up a few minutes before our time and we’re promptly seated. The restaurant was about half filled or less. A person brought us water without saying a word. We then sat there for almost 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging we were even there. A server passed us several times but ignored us. We then got up and told the hostess what had happened and left. Our special night was ruined. I sent a message to the restaurant the next day via their website and no one has bothered to contact me. Very disappointing

Great food, good service, nice place! It’s not cheap ($50-60/person with drinks, appetizers, meals & dessert).My coworkers and I tried this place out today for the first time. There is complementary valet service, which is excellent. They have good service, a nice wine selection, great Italian flavors, delicious truffle fries. If you want a nice evening meal, I definitely recommend it.
100% delicious. Made reservations for a date with my wife and had a fantastic time. The restaurant is had a beautiful well lit entrance and a ton of cozy quiet corners for tables. The food was amazing. The mushroom scallops is VERY good and the veal chop was everything that you could want it to be.Bottom Line: the restaurant is a gem in the heart of the Oregon district with fabulous food and great service.
The food was excellent. Tuscan bread. Scallops and chicken. Service was the same. Jeannie was our server and she was outstanding. Personable, knowledge and efficient.
From the moment we walked in, until the last bite of desert left my spoon, my first time at Roost was simply amazing. From the ambiance and music to the muscles and hand crafted cocktails, Roost was not just an exceptional restaurant, but a complete culinary experience which delighted all the senses. Brooke, our waitress, gave us 5star service and had a witty/informative personality to match! I cannot wait to go back. My only complaint was that they do not have hot sauce, but I guess Roost isnt exactly the type of venue to entertain a less than spectacular condiment. Instantly one of my favorite restaurants and definitely my new favorite restaurant in Dayton. Thank you for an amazing dinner.
This was my first time at Roost which was heralded as a great upscale restaurant. I like my Cab and had to go down their list to the 5th pick to find one that was in stock. It was bad, like an old jug of Mogen David left exposed to the air for a week. We ordered by the glass and found one that was acceptable. Barely. The food (the chicken entre) was tasty, though the noodles were under cooked by my taste and very rubbery. The service was very good, attentive and responsive. An issue almost arose out of my rejection of the bottle of wine that I ordered. But the waitress saw my point and I guess the manager chose not to make me pay for it. I would like to return in the hopes that this visit was anomalous, but Im not sure I will.
It wasnt as good as I had hoped. Ravioli was hard and that is very unfortunate because I could not wait to come here. My daughter is allergic to mushrooms and they put some truffle oil in the garlic butter on top of the steak without including that in the description on the menu. A $50 steak wasted and she couldnt eat the new one because she was already not feeling well. It was a very slow process.3 hours for dinner. $150 bill for 2 people and we didnt drink. The bread and the deserts were good.
Let me tell you about this place. First of all, I would not recommend you going here. If you are looking for an authentic restaurant, then this is not a good place for you to experience real authentic Italian restaurant.You have to master making or cooking your pasta in order to serve a good Italian food. If your pasta is as mooshy as the Marsh Land in Louisiana, then this is not the place for you. It’s gotta be ALDENTE!!!Second, the sauce must taste home made and not watery. This is what makes a good pasta dish is! It’s all about the sauce and flavorings!! Mind as well open up a can of Campbell sauce if you can’t make your sauce right.Third, you have to think of the portion. Italians are good eater and generous at serving. If you think you have TODDLERS as customers, then mind as well open up a DAY CARE Restaurant and offer kids meal not adult meal. The amount of serving is not worth it for my money. It’s basically a rip off!!
The meal was perfect!!! The mushroom salad is probably one of the best salads I’ve ever had. I had the fillet and finished the meal with the orange crème brûlée. The atmosphere was very chic. Our party of four sat in the front section of the restaurant and despite it being cold outside we were still warm. I had a great time and even got a farewell thank you from Chef Dana Downs. So happy for such a great evening!
We have frequented the Roost multiple times. Last Saturday, we experienced inflated prices, cheaped out drinks, and slow bar service. We will not be back based on this decline.
Cool atmosphere, but price wasnt worth the food. Would still recommend if someone was celebrating something and havent been, but probably will look elsewhere for our own celebrations going forward.
The salmon, mashed potatoes and amazing (some kind I dont remember) was heaven in my mouth, then all the way back to Columbus my stomach was telling me to go back for more, always excellent food and service
One of the best restaurants in Dayton. Dim romantic ambience, delicious food, delightful cocktails, and friendly service. Pricey for Dayton but you really can’t beat the price for what you get. We make it a point to come here for special celebrations and on those nights when we just have to go out and treat ourselves.

Mussels tasted good, but the soup, the scallops, and the filet mignon were over-seasoned. They were too salty. If three separate dishes are too salty, I can assume most of the menus are the same way. Other reviewers also mentioned food being too salty as well. Considering the cost vs taste, I dont think I am coming back with my money, but if someone buys me something here I might try again.Ive tried other high end restaurants, like Harry & Izzys in Indianapolis, food is never too salty but just perfectly seasoned.
Roost overall service, quality of food, and price was great. We had the Fillet and Pork chop dinners with cocktails and deserts. Food was served quickly and served just as ordered. All staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Great overall dining experience. I cant wait to revisit when I am in Dayton area again.

Fabulous restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Food is impeccable. Flavors and presentation are top notch. Specialty coctails and a nice wine list. Incredible Dining Experience!! Started at the bar with hand crafted/muddled dink’s that were fantastic. I had a Moscow mule, my wife loved her sangria. Moved to our table and enjoyed some fresh bread with marinara while we waited in our entree. I got the filet mignon which was melt in your mouth delicious. My wife’s scallops and ravioli were equally impressive. As our night came to a close, we got a visit from the proprietor and chef, Dana Downs. One of Ohio’s finest. Great evening. Highly recommend. My wife’s already scheduling our next visit! Lol

Everything was so amazing I don’t even have the words to describe it! From the second I pulled up (hello valet!!), to the hostess with a fantastic attitude that provided me a mask after leaving mine in my car, to eating the most delicious food (mussels, steak and scallops/ravioli), to the fantastic bartender (Hey Leslie!), and all the way to the absolute best playlist playing, I couldn’t have had a better experience! I will come back every chance I get! The ambiance is great and the food isn’t comparable to anything in the area! I guess I did find the words😉

Truly a magnificent dinner, we had a great time enjoying a wonderful meal. The food was phenomenal anyone could find something that they like on the menu even if you dont see something on the menu you think you would like just ask the staff and they will bring you something amazing . Would highly suggest; we will be returning.

My wife and I just left Roost for the first time. The only word that comes to me is unbelievable. We both got the filet as our main meal and it was mouth watering to say the least. Started w the scallops as a an appetizer.. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a scallop w so much flavor before. This place is amazing. From the valet to the hostess to the waiter we had it was truly a great experience.. if you are going to spend the money on a dinner this is what you want. Dana Is an exceptional chef and has taking fine dining to the dayton area to the next level. I “will” absolutely recommend this to friends family and everyone that comes to my place of employment. I can’t wait for summer time and the newly renovated garage doors to be open this place is truly unique.
One of my favorite spots in the Oregon district. Valet parking.Great staff-professional. Jake and Leslie at the bar, are amazing. Dana ( Owner- Head Chef), always makes an appearance to see how I liked the new special. The specials are the hidden gems, so , always consider these as your entree. Cocktails, Appetizers, entrees, desserts, wine list- all top notch. This chef knows what she is doing. 10 yrs Downtown says it all. Classic!

My fiancé and I celebrated her birthday last night at Roost and boy were we not disappointed. She has a gluten allergy and Olivia my server walked us through the options and offered incredible hospitality for the start. We began with the scallops and the artichoke appetizer. The scallops were cooked perfectly with an amazing brown butter and the artichokes were extremely creamy and made with allot of love. FANTASTIC. She then had the filet with crabmeat and I had the Halibut picatta dinner special which I would highly recommend both. The steak was cooked perfectly barely even needing a knife and my Halibut had a very nice crust without over cooking the inside. I knew Dana was talented but wow. I’m from New Orleans working in fine dining for over 10+ years and have been in Dayton for the last 5 and this was by far my best meal since moving here. The restaurant was beautiful and I even really enjoyed the music. This restaurant blew us both away. Do yourself a favor and make reservations immediately because I’m about to make mine and pay and Dana another visit!!!!

I had the linguine and a side of meatballs. The pasta was perfectly al dente! A tiny bit bland at first but a pinch of salt and a splash of evo and it was delish. The meatballs were juicy and flavorful with a touch of heat. I dont generally like spicy food because my palate is hypersensitive but this was just enough to poke my taste buds and bring it in another direction.

What an amazing way to finish a truly memorable Anniversary Weekend! When we travel, our goal is to always sample the local restaurant scene and this recommendation surpassed our expectations. Dining with friends gave us opportunities to sample so many dishes during Restaurant week. For cocktails, she ordered the Basilico with Bombay Sapphire as she’s recently switched her martinis to Gin. For me a Blood and Sand – who knew you could make a mixed drink with Scotch? The meal started with their beet salad and mussels di finnochio – amazing selections. She then selected the Halibut Piccata while I had the Double Bone Pork Chop. Everything was cooked to perfection. While we don’t indulge in dessert, we ended the evening espressos (including the twist!) and limoncellos to finish the meal. We can’t wait to go again!

Roost will always be my husband and I’s favorite restaurant in Dayton. It’s rare if we don’t visit at least once a month and we usually try for more! The staff has become a part of our friend group! Angie, Brooke, and Chet are amongst the kindest people you will ever meet and it is a pleasure to see them every time. We even chose to have our rehearsal dinner here based on how much we love the food and atmosphere. Absolute best old fashioned in town and the swordfish entree is unbeatable. We LOVE every part of this restaurant.
Roost has a wonderful menu. It is very diverse and has a good range of options for all types of tastes. The food is prepared well and at a great price point.

Our first time here, I ordered the roast chicken and my boyfriend ordered the linguini. We switched, both were very delicious and we were blown away by the perfection of these dishes. The bread and meatballs were very good appetizers ,as well. We highly recommend this restaurant.

We really wanted to enjoy Roost. But this review is mixed. The ambiance may be modern Italian, but it does not seem favorable for a dining experience with conversation. We sat out on the patio and were surrounded with loud laughter and intrusive conversation—from other people. The food we had was wonderful. Our goat cheese appetizer was wonderful as was my swordfish. We had ordered a salad and realized late in our dinner that we had not been served the salad. Part of the problem was that we were tag-teamed with two servers, who seemed to be confused. The food is enough to recommend another visit, but if you want to have a nice, civilized, quiet evening, choose somewhere else!
Called to ask if Roost could accommodate a large party, and Nicky from Roost asked me “are you aware that there is a pandemic going on right now?” She followed up by condemning me for even asking. I have been to Roost and used them for Corporate events, however I will no longer be going back.

The service is very good and the atmosphere is nice. Eat on the patio if you can. My wifes order was wrong, but the food was still good and they made things right on the check. The mussels appetizer was very large and a good value. I thought the veal chop was cooked very well, but too mild in flavor for me. The creme brulee was delicious, as was the affogato.
The asparagus was still slightly green with a nice crunch and lightly seasoned which easily made it the best thing on the plate. Let me just say that we like salt. Sometimes all a dish needs is a good salting DURING cooking to unlock a burst of flavor. Typically we have the opposite issue of little or no salt on a dish, but what we experienced here was too much in the other direction.
Food was horrible . Tater tots were dry , wings were not fully cooked and asked fir more Caesar dressing several times that we never received. Will not be going back .
Did a job here. Very clean and I would like to go back for a nice meal.

This venue only continues to improve and is rapidly becoming the place for fine dining in the downtown area.
If you can eat at the bar if it is you and another. Great service and love the atmosphere. Highly encourage you to try the spaghetti and meatball. One of my favorites. It has quite the kick to it as well. Another great feature is on nice nights they will open the windows up and you can hear the city sing. Accompanied with a nice breeze, it makes for a very fun experience.
Everything about this place was perfect and just delicious. The menu was limited but theres a reason for that. They specialize in Gourmet Italian and I am sure that everything on the menu is wonderful. I would love to go back and try something else. Dont miss their truffle fries. If french fries can be fancy, thats what these were. And the flavor was amazing! Also they have a wonderful wine selection.
The bartender is very friendly and made a great wine recommendation. I was dining solo and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Taste was great and portion was just right. Such a cute neighborhood - Oregon District. I was here for work and did not know Dayton; my expectations were low but feel much better about returning in the future!

The cocktail menu was good. The steak was VERY salty - clearly over seasoned. The lasagna was over cooked in some places and under in others. The service was good. I wouldnt go out of my way to go back.

Always a fantastic meal when I visit Roost. Getting a table can be iffy without a reservation, but sometimes the restaurant can accommodate on short notice. Nice casual, place to get some wonderful food.
5 star experience. The food is high quality and expertly prepared. My wife and I both had nothing but good to say about our entrees. Service was on point and their pricing is very fair considering the quality and experience. Very nice atmosphere to dine in. Not great. We were excited to go to roost because of all of the great reviews and we love to eat and try new things. We ordered drinks, appetizers, main course, and dessert and I walked away hungry. The food was ok but not great, I felt it was overpriced for what we got and the place smelled like a clean bathroom, not bad but not what you want a restaurant to smell like.
I had an excellent experience at Roost with my girlfriend. From the service to the food it was all very satisfying. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and quick to check up on us. I had the lasagna and she had the ravioli. Both very delicious. Will definitely return soon!

Everything was very good, the service, the food, the ambiance. The reviews are spot on about this restaurant. I attached the picture of the blackened salmon that I ordered. It was accompanied by beet risotto and some greens. The flavors all complimented each other very well. Great dish. I was extremely satisfied with my dining experience.
Hats off to the chef this place is amazing!! Fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. We ordered the meatballs, recommended by a friend and let me tell you these are the best Ive ever had the pleasure of eating. Same with the scallops, mouthwatering!!

This place is absolutely excellent. Been here 3 times and I love it! Our waiter Michael was awesome and the food was delicious. The pork chop special was very excellent.I eat out a lot I am from Pittsburgh and would go to this place every week if it was in Pittsburgh. Highly recommend.
Roost // Park City Club catered my wedding of 100+ guests last weekend and they did a phenomenal job! The food was incredible and the service was top notch. We got married in our backyard and Dana and her team absolutely nailed it. They treated our guests like family all night and I cant tell you how many people commented on the quality of the food and service. Thank you for everything.
A little too expensive but nice friendly staff. Didnt have to wait very long for someone to greet me. Food doesnt match the prices though. A bit high but again, the friendly service is nice. Need to bring price range down a little. Courteous bar tenders make it nice than being ignored. Not extremely loud either in crowd or music being played. Can actually hear yourself think. Would definitely go back.
The service and food quality was fantastic. I will say I I generally judge an Italian restaurant by the quality and temperature of their bread. At Roost, none was offered at all.
