Great selection of used books at fantastic prices! And very easy to shop as well. One of the best used book stores I have ever been in!

I liked the way the books were laid out even though the selection left a bit to be desired. We would probably go back as nothing was overpriced and we did get a few good items.

My wife and I went in to just browse the selection and i was more then pleased! The book selection was broad, organization was clear, and the staff was wonderful! At the checkout i had a fantastic conversation with the gentleman at the check-out! I will most definetly come here again!

I havent been there since the Pandemic and I missed it so much! I found one book that I had been searching for for years as well as an unexpected book. Im so happy they survived 2020. 🙂

Pleasant staff and wide selection of used books. Not going to get a whole lot for your trade in but nice to recycle books you have read so others purchase. Good selection of young adult and teen titles.

Excellent selection of used books to browse that any lover of reading will enjoy wandering around. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and their prices are very fair especially considering the bar for quality they appear to stick to for their used offerings. You wont find books in tatters falling apart there. Rather everything I see seems to be gently used with the typical signs of wear youd expect on any older used paper backs that youd gladly add to your collection without hesitation. Go and check them out! They also do excellent value for trade-ins if you are looking to swap or unload some of the books you have.

Frugal Muse is a fantastic gem in the Downers Grove Woodridge area. They have hey huge selection of used in many different genres that are fantastically organized. They also have a great selection of comic books, rare fines, records CDs. Under normal circumstances they host local events for amateur poets novelist and teens. The books are reasonably priced, but sometimes seems slightly high for used books which is why I gave the four stars instead of five. Im just glad theyve been able to last throughout covid and can still compete with Barnes & Noble and Amazon to stay open

I love shopping here! Theres such a variety of books and other forms of media to peruse. All the items I viewed are in really good shape. Prices are fair. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There are comfy chairs on premises and the store is library quiet. This contributes to the shopping experience.

The owner Paul is a stand- up guy, knows how to run his business for something like the last 20 years, and is really a sweet human being. A very quiet bookstore I like to visit. They have amazing prices on all the books Ive seen and has a wide varity of books. From childrens books, to manga for anime lovers, to horror or sci-fi. This place has a good read for anyone!

I was so pleasantly thrilled at this book store. The prices are more than fair and they have a lovely collection of used books. Most I bought were hardback and under 5$. I so wish I lived closer as I would be here weekly. Very helpful staff as well and even though we asked for help three times they were very happy to indulge our requests.

The store is very quiet and homely, the owner is very nice. They have a huge selection of everything, and all for very cheap. You can even ask them to order something for you if they dont have it. I always leave with an item or two, would definitely recommend stopping by here.

This is a pretty good used book and music store with a reasonably large selection and very reasonable prices. They also have a clearance section for both the book and music areas of the store where sometimes you can find something really great. Today, I bought three paperback novels and a non-fiction clearance book for around $10. Definitely a place worth stopping in from time to time.

Sometimes when we are waiting for our pizza to be ready or really just on any day this is a fun place to come and browse. I still love hearing cds in the car, call me old fashioned, and I can always find something great here. So nice to still have these stores around, please support them and stop by and buy something

This is a really great bookstore, with gently used books and other items. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. The prices are great. There are loads of books in this store, from every kind of genre you can imagine. Its a large, but very quaint place. The air in the store is permeated by that wonderful fragrant smell of books. True Book Lovers will know exactly what I mean by that statement. Love love love this place.

FRUGAL MUSE BOOKS is a fun shop. I especially love searching the art isle & have found coffee table books full of rich history & information on greatartists such as Matisse, Cezanne, Rembrandt & a wide variety of others for beyond fair prices. The stores has a rather large CD & movie section along with oodles of paperbacks & hardcovers on every subject imaginable. Plan on spending a generous amount of time searching for treasures only an eclectic store such as this provides. I would sum up my experiences here as an excellent opportunity to be amazed at what you will find... each & every time.

I have been going here for years. Its always fun to stop in and l👀k around. Its like a time machine in the store. To those of us who still read books and enjoy buying local this is my book store. Always friendly and helpful. They can order books in there too. Mine usually arrive in a week. 🖒!

Nice store, very organized for a used book, music video store. The books are grouped by topic or genre and some by topic are listed in alphabetic order by author. The store was clean and well lit and nicely set up where you can move around. The books are about 1/2 of the originsl listing price and it also depends on the condition of the book. Im not sure what they do for book donations if theyll take any, what will they not take, do you get store credit etc. They did have a dollar or under book cart outside which is nice as well. I checked some of the albums and they were resealed so you really cant look at the albums and the price of the few I did look at were $9.99, I didnt look at anything else.Prime place to look for books cheap is at your local library, most have a for sale cart where books are 25cents to 75cents for hardcover. These are books that I guess are rotated out. If you are looking for particular or part of a series I would def check them out.

All of the books are so reasonably priced and they have a gorgeous vintage and leather bound section. I drop in occasionally since its a local store and every time the people working there have been kind and engaging. The store itself is clean and all the areas are well marked, easy to navigate. Sometimes the books on the shelves are very out of order, but thats more the nature of it being a book store people are allowed to browse in at their leisure.

Great little local spot, and one of my favorite places. I can spend an extended amount of time perusing their CDs, and Ive found some real gems on occasion. You can also sell yours if youre trying to get rid of them, which is nice. The owners are great people who hire friendly staff.

Today was my first time visiting this store and I must say that it is such a hidden gem! Maybe Im biased because I love books but its nice to walk into a book store that has a lot of selection and the prices are very reasonable. Also, the lady at the counter was very friendly and even gave me a coupon for my next visit. Needless to say, I shall be back!

Be aware of this store as mentioned earlier from a previous customer. They make promises and do not keep them. I called today because I needed money and a woman on the phone told me they pay cash. I went an hour after I had called and the owner said they did not pay cash. I had bought many items there in the past and was a very good customer. The owner actually recognized me. I ask for a compromise and I was willing to take practically nothing for all the books. The owner would not budge. He had very little people/business skills in dealing with what I had experienced. I will never go back and will tell you and all my friends NOT to go there. Thx for reading this. :)

Went there for the first time last night and was blown away by the selection and prices. I found a book that had been discontinued at an arboretum bookstore, and it was marked at less than half price. A beautiful, limited edition, leather bound coffee table type book was available for next to nothing (probably because there wss next to nothing slight damage to edge of two pages). I immediately told friends about this place, and I plan to return. Looks like a great place for stocking up on ones favorite genres, and for gifts.

Good for wandering around in. Doesnt have some very popular classic novels in stock which is a bit weird for a used book store, but they do have a pretty wide selection generally.

The shop itself as okay; not a great selection and a lot of things were in pretty rough shape, but prices were mostly low to match that. However, the service I received from one particular employee ruined my first experience here. I went to the counter to make my purchase and was met by a middle aged man, possibly a manager? He was initially cheerful and friendly, and then as I handed him my card to make a purchase, he asked if I could pay cash. I said sorry, no, I dont have cash on me, he suddenly completely changed his attitude with me. He was silent, rushing what he was doing, and tossed my card to the counter as well as my purchase instead of you know, handing it to me like a decent person. As I was leaving I read a sign that said they preferred cash payment, but their registers have VISA, American Express, etc stickers, and they have a card reader hooked up. Im sorry I didnt have cash with me, but it gives no excuse to treat customers with obvious disdain. They are still paying customers. I will NOT be back.

Great bookstore for new and used books, records, CDs, and videos. Has an excellent selection of used books, including those classics students need for school. People bring in books for store credit all the time so theres always something different.

TLDR: This place is awesome and you should go there.Always great, helpful staff on hand and awesome deals!Since my wife first told me about this place Ive been so blown away by the finds on their clearance wall that I never noticed how awesome the selection is in their stacks until today. I could easily spend an entire afternoon just browsing their sci-fi and fantasy selection.They also have a small selection of board and video games, manga, and a large amount of music including an entire room dedicated to vinyl. Im sure theres a lot of other cool stuff there that I just havent gotten around to noticing yet.

Frugal Muse is the perfect remedy for a teacher on a budget. Every time I want to do a Read Aloud with my kids, my first stop is Frugal Muse. I can get a used copy of most chapter books for $2-$3 and some change. Some newer books (Hunger Games, for example) can run you $6 and some change used, however, that still saves you off their $9 new price-tag. Unfortunately, Ive only used the store for Young Adult fiction so I cant say much about their other inventory. While their inventory of Young Adult fiction isnt constant (they can only carry what people sell to them), they do a good job of keeping their shelves stocked with current literature. Ive almost never had a problem finding the books Ive been in search of!

Ive been a loyal customer of Frugal Muse for years and this review is long overdue. Its really refreshing and a genuine relief to have the ability, especially in these times of online shopping , to browse [first hand/on site] such a great collection of music (compact discs, LPs, cassettes), DVD/Blu-Ray, and...of course: Books! The selection is very impressive and its fun to visit their inventory on a regular/routine basis to see whats been traded in, new releases, etc. Paul and his team are great and go out of their way to help locate items on the shelves, source them for customers at a discount, and basically do all that they can to ensure you find what it is youre looking for. I really appreciate their detailed inventory organization and store presentation also- it makes shopping a true pleasure [suggestion: if its your first visit to the store budget some time to take in this place and all it has to offer - its really something special].

Stumbled upon this book store a few weeks ago and we ended staying for quite a while lol. They have so many older not within 3-5 years of being made movies and so so many books all at an incredibly great price! My boyfriend was extremely impressed by their large si-fi section. Cant wait to go again!

This place is a true classic they have tons of records CDs even VHS tapes theres not too many places left like this you dont get a high price when you trade in your music or DVDs but then again most of it doesnt sell for a very high price new now so if you want to save a couple dollars before you buy a CD or a movie check this place! staff is always nice :)
