I was a bit clueless to the alterations process for a wedding dress, and they made it all simple and easy for me to understand. Best place in Texas! Everything was perfect! I had a custom designer dress altered. The whole team was amazing! The front desk got me in super quick and was very prompt to respond! My alterations went smooth and the dress came out exactly how I pictured it! I have referred 3 friends so far... more to come! Wouldn’t trust anyone else!

I started my alterations process with AFTA in early June 2020 for my September 6 wedding. I believe I had my gown back by the first week in August for my bridals during the second week in August. All of this is to say that this place runs like a well oiled machine. I am a lawyer and live in McKinney so it is important to me that when I drive and spend money on things that everything is done A.) the right way and we dont take short cuts and B.) efficiently. Rylee was there during my first fitting and Ruth was there during my second two. They will help you decide whether to line your dress or not to line; they will get your tatas where they need to be; they will get you in the right shapewear. They will bustle your dress correctly. You will only know this if youve had friends get married and their bustle on their giant dress breaks during the reception because they only have one pickup. This will not happen to you if you use AFTA. Your bustle will be right, tight and beautiful. Im assuming youve paid good money for your dress so dont take shortcuts on the alterations. Even if you think you just need it hemmed; you may be able to find someone in Dallas to do that cheaper but then they also might hack up your dress and then youre screwed so lets not go down that road and lets just do it right the first time. As an aside, my mothers dress came in 10 days before the wedding because of COVID shipping delays. She took her intended dress and her backup dress to AFTA. They were willing to alter her intended dress but it was going to require a lot of work and $$$ and really the backup dress required zero alterations and always looked better on her to begin with. So, they could of taken her money and altered the intended dress but they did the right thing and told her the backup actually looked better and to just go with that. I cannot recommend Altered for the Altar enough!! Everyone was so nice to work with and they went out of their way to make sure I could get in enough appointments- I live out of town and had to fly in and only had 4 months! They built beautiful custom sleeves, took layers out of the poofy bottom, and really listened to my vision to turn a dress I really liked into my dream dress! You will not regret choosing Altered for the Altar!

Its a really cute specialty alterations shop that is spectacular at what they do. They make you feel special, even more than you already do while wearing your dress. We were here for a wedding dress alteration, but they will do other dresses as well. I highly recommend this place for dress alterations including bustling.

I cannot say enough great things about the AFTA staff. I really tested their abilities, and they did not disappoint! I lost 50lbs from the time I bought my dress (which was already too big to begin with), so as you can imagine it was like putting on a potato sack when I tried it back on for the first time. The staff had to literally take in every seam on the dress and essentially rebuild it to what it is now. When I say my dress is absolutely perfect, omg!! They even added extra lace to the front to make it more modern and timeless. Cannot thank them enough for their great work. Totally worth every single penny, and I’d recommend them 1000 times over!!! The staff are all super friendly and welcoming, and the whole experience was a 10/10. Don’t even question if you should use anyone else!

I highly recommend Altered for the Altar. Being a plus size bride I was nervous from the moment of saying yes how the dress shopping, purchasing and alterations experience would be. I primarily working with Ruth, Julie and Caitlin (apologies if I misspelled your names). All of the women from the moment I first went in to the final day I went home with my dress was absolutely exceptional. I felt very comfortable, and let me tell you, if you are nervous about getting pretty much naked in front of women, they have seen it all hunny! They provided champagne at each appointment and made it so special for myself, my mom, my sister and my aunt and uncle. They worked well with providing me appointments that worked with my work schedule and gave me advice even when choosing my accessories. I cant say enough about they amazing work! They also did some custom work with my dress. They created a custom back that filled in a keyhole with extra lace and buttons, sewed on my accent belt, attached my petti coat so that it was sewn into my dress and customized two bustles for my dress that was very easy for my mom and cousin to do on the day of the wedding. AFTA is amazing! They make your alterations experience so personal and can do literally any job under the sun to make your bridal dreams come true. They altered not one, but two of my gowns when I decided to buy a different one 3 months before my big day! I cannot say enough good things about the Ruth, Rylee, their exceptional family, & staff.

I really loved my experience with AFTA and I would recommend them to everyone who need alterations. I originally bought my wedding dress from Circle Park Bridal, and it was a gown that I liked but my family loved. I couldnt see what the end result could be because the dress fit my hips, but not my chest and shoulders. After I found AFTA and told Ms. Ruth at my initial appointment what I wanted, she promised me I would love my dress when it was all said and done. I really loved all my appointments at AFTA. Ms. Ruth did my alterations each time and she is so professional but loving. I really enjoyed our conversations together, it made the experience memorable. She was also so kind to appease my mothers conservative values and added lace pieces to the necessary areas. In the end, on my wedding day I felt absolutely beautiful. It was a wonderful mixture of the gown I had dreamed of and a gown my parents would approve of. Thank yall so much.

So the owner had previously done my friends dress years prior and she did a great job so decided to try her for my dress. At first I thought the price I was quoted was to high so I took a week to get pricing from other tailors. For the basic wedding dress adjustments the other companies were a little bit cheaper or the same. But most of the other companies did not do custom work which I definitely needed. Because I didnt know anything about the other companies that did custom work, I didnt want to take a chance. The dress came out perfect. Everyone loved my dress. Once I get good pictures I will update my post.

Altered for the Altar is the place to get your alterations! It is a modern twist to a family owned bridal business. Ruth and Rylee are professional, kind and just outstanding at what they do. Their team is a direct reflection of them too. I felt comfortable, special and excited. I originally came in because I was concerned my dress would not zip, as I have been losing weight. It ended up zipping! But, they added fine details like hemming my dress and adding cups that will make it perfect! Altered for the Alter is transparent and honest. They let you know what exactly needs to be done, share what they think would be best and tell you cost up front before they start working on it. If you need under garments or want something custom or altering a vintage gown they are the ones to trust. Even if you just need something minor, it is worth it!

Their customer service is the best. Everyone is very sweet and attentive. It’s the perfect place to have your bridal gown altered and even bring your bridal party. There is a small “bar” with champagne and mimosas too. It’s so cute. They can do just about anything to customize your dress and make it fit how you like. The seamstresses are very knowledgeable about what needs to be done to make the fit right!

Their business office in Dallas has a beautifully eclectic and nostalgic feel! The staff is ALL for making the brides special day be as perfect as she is!

AFTA did a wonderful job restoring and altering my mothers dress for my wedding. They made the experience feel very personal and I felt they enjoyed working on my dress just as much as I enjoyed it. Being a 2020 bride has been the opposite of fun. We had to delay our wedding due to COVID-19 and I was highly concerned about my dress not fitting on my new date. I had to have my final dress fitting in June but unfortunately needed adjustments made for my wedding in October. Altered by the Altar fulfilled their promise to let me come back in to make those changes at not additional cost and were flexible to work around my schedule since I live out of the state. All of the staff were sweet and I am especially grateful for Ruth! She was patient with the adjustments and helped me think through and visualize the best way to adjust the dress so it would fit just right! I have been asked about the expense of alterations and while it was substantial but I think I received more value than what I paid. I had 3 different fittings and had a final tweak made during the final fitting as well. They were just wonderful to work with! I highly recommend them for wedding dress alterations and I trust them completely with expensive, designer gowns. The ladies at Altered for the Altar transformed my dress to fit perfectly for my wedding day! The dress showed a bit more than what I wanted, but Riley came up with the best modesty panel I have ever seen. It looked like a part of the dress, with beading and the right cut to not even look like a modesty panel.

Magic, just pure magic. This store is so precious and so is everything working inside. Ruth is such a doll and truly cares. She is so personable, sweet, and kind. The work that she does and her crew is absolutely amazing! They treat you like royalty.I had an interesting situation due to Covid and my moving 1,800 miles north east. They were able to do my second and final appointment within a week, and the dress fit like a glove!I also forgot to ask them to place buttons on the back and they had already done it. I originally purchase my dress from a boutique in Tulsa, OK, and had taken my dress to their local recommended tailor. After ordering the size the boutique recommended, I took it to the tailor and after 30 minutes of struggling, we were unable to get the dress to fit. I left the appointment in tears, and decided, on the recommendation of two friends who had used AFTA, to take my dress here instead (I live in Rockwall, TX, so this was more convenient as well). During my first appointment they were able to zip the dress up (though it was a bit tight) and quelled any anxiety I had about not being able to wear my dress for my wedding day. They saw how worried I was about my dress situation, and were nothing but supportive and kind. I left the appointment feeling worlds better than I did coming in. They were able to fit the dress to me perfectly, I would recommend them to all brides!

My future daughter in law was treated like a queen. They are doing a great job, very attentive to her wants and needs.

When I purchased my dress it was a little too low cut for my liking. Being a bustier gal it’s hard to find clothing (or wedding dresses) that didn’t make me look bigger than I am! Altered for the Alter was amazing when it came to helping me add to the dress. They group of women there walked me step to step through the whole process. My dress turned out to be even better than I could of imagined. They work with your schedule and made the alterations quick! The pricing is great too. I will recommend them to all brides!

I called Ruth about a month ago in tears because the dress I ordered was not what I expected and I couldnt do an exchange at the salon.I went in for the appointment and was greeted by a store full of happiness and comfort (and lots of smiles from the staff). I don’t even know where to begin but these ladies worked very hard on my unexpectedly difficult dress. First I wanted to cover more of my chest than what the original style had and they made sure I was satisfied with one of the several style options they could do. On top of that I had a lot of restriction in my shoulders (I had sleeves) which I was honestly willing to simply power though at the wedding. However, they worked very hard on fixing and making me comfortable for my wedding! Because... how could I dance ?? Very sweet and talented people I would give them more stars if I could.

I havent gotten married yet, but I definitely know where Im taking my dress when I do! Altered for the Altar did my bridesmaids dress for my best friends wedding and they did an incredible job. The boutique i bought it from sold me a size that was way too big for my body and this team had the job of taking it down nearly 2 full dress sizes. I was so excited that they were able to do it without distorting the dress or making my body look strange. It fit like a glove and Im so thrilled with the results. My friend (in the photo) also got her dress altered here and just look at what an incredible job they did!!! Would highly recommend to any bride, bridesmaid, or mother of the groom/bride looking to have their dress done right! :)

This was the easiest part of my wedding. Altered for the Altar has the process perfected to a science. The appointments were always short and sweet, but I never felt like I was being rushed in and out. My dress fit perfectly and my custom straps were exactly what I wanted.

I had an a great experience at Altered for the Altar. I came here based off these reviews. I called to schedule a consultation (which was quick and easy). At the consultation I felt comfortable with the way they confidently assured me they could assist me. My bridal gown is a mermaid dress with lots of beading. I had lost weight and the dress was extremely big. Yesterday was my final appointment and I LOVED the results! Each appointment (a total of 3 w/consultation) went great! They were attentive and friendly! Thank you at all the staff at Altered for the Altar!

Bought my bridesmaid’s dress from David’s Bridal. I have a 1/2 sleeve tattooed on my arm and needed a dress with sleeves long enough to cover. DB doesn’t sell long sleeve dresses. On their website they say that they can offer alterations like adding sleeves, but they did not honor that. I called ahead to ask if this was an option and was told that it was. The person who answered my questions even made an appointment for me. The closest DB is 30 mins from me. At the appointment, I explained to the woman in alterations that I wanted to add a sleeve, but was told that this was not possible because they are not allowed to “change the design of the dress”. I ended up having to go somewhere else for my alterations, and Altered for the Alter has great, consistent reviews. I’m SO glad I went to them. It was easy to make an appointment, and the designer was really easy to talk to- very up front and to the point. They were very professional, had me in and out, and quoted me a reasonable price. The designer even went out of her way to match the color of the sleeve to the dress perfectly! I can’t begin to express my gratitude for what was an otherwise horrible experience.

I bought my wedding dress from Terry Costa who highly recommends Altered for the Alter. Since it had great reviews I decided to go there. I was super excited and had to wait 3 weeks since they book really quickly. I showed up 5 minutes before my apt. The second I walked in they rushed me to my room, put me in my dress and shoes, had the alterations come and stick a few pins in my dress, took some pictures and helped me out of my dress. The appointment lasted all but 15 minutes from walking in the door to getting my clothes back on. I sit down at the front desk and Im told the alterations were going to be $700!! I was blown away on how my dress which is a 2 layer satin dress with very little detail and had very little pins in it was going to be $700. I was very disappointed with this place, I felt very rushed being that I had a 30 minute window and felt like they were trying to overcharge most likely for being a bride. I get the fact that it takes man hours for the alterations but it just seemed extremely overpriced. They also charge a $50 consultation fee so that was the most expensive 12 minutes of my life! Save yourself some time and money and find a different alterations place.

Was recently turned away from another business due to the complexity of alterations I needed for my wedding dress. First of all, Rylee immediately made me feel extremely comfortable. She made sure to understand my vision first to then decide the alterations I needed to look my best. Trust me when I say you need this realness!! Second, she assured me AFTA was experienced and capable of altering exactly what I needed. A complete 180 from my first experience. But what made this the best experience for me was the assurance she gave me. Rylee made it clear to me that what I wasnt asking anything crazy. In her words, she was just making my dress fit my body the way it was meant to fit.After seeing the amount of pins I had in my dress during my fitting, I was nervous to see how much id be quoted. Let me tell you. I was SHOCKED at how reasonable it was.Save yourself the time and stress and just go straight to AFTA!Also - theres champagne.

I bought my wedding dress from Terry Costa back in July of 2018. I am getting married April 28, 2019. I took my dress to a tailor that Terry Costa recommended and long story short, she didnt do a very good job. The tailor told me my dress couldnt be bustled and all sorts of BS and 3 weeks before my wedding, I decided to get a second opinion about bustling. I called Altered for the Altar on 4.3.19 and they reassured me I could get my dress bustled. I made an appointment for the next day (time constraint) and when I went in, I was given REAL, unbiased advice about my dress. Ruth and Rylie (mom and daughter) reassured me that I was correct in my assumption that my dress COULD be bustled and that they would be able to do it quick and easily. Here I am, 4.10.19, a little more than 2 weeks away from my wedding day and not only is my dress DONE, but because I had such a horrible experience with my first tailor, they steamed my dress for free. From the moment I walked into their establishment, to the time I walked out, I felt important, welcomed, and at ease knowing my dress was in such good hands. I wish I had known about them before my dress was touched by the other alterations place. I highly recommend Altered for the Altar. if you are a bride, and you are considering them, dont hesitate. Hire them. They are well worth it. 💗💗

Love this place!! They completely constructed my custom bridesmaid dress & it was amazing! They took my measurements to start construction and at the first fitting it only needed small adjustments; they are truly gifted. Love the passion they have for making each bride (or bridesmaid in my case ;) ) feel confident and comfortable!! Absolutely will return!!

I had an amazing experience with Altered for the Altar. I was a little late to the game getting my wedding dress and finally got it with less than 5 weeks before my wedding. The staff at Altered for the Alter were so helpful and kind and never made me feel the pressure of my wedding soon approaching. They were quick and professional with their work and my dress came out beautifully! I was completely satisfied with my service and would recommend anyone looking to alter their dress to go to Altered for the Altar!

I had a dress that was a sample at a bridal shop and had a big snag on the back and several rips in the lace simply from being worn a lot, and AFTA fixed it so perfectly! You couldn’t even tell that there was anything wrong with it to begin with. Everyone here is so kind and so easy to work with. They gave me exactly what I wanted for my dream dress! My dress is made of solid beads and I was terrified of how it was even possible to get altered, let alone how much it was going to cost. Altered for the Altar didnt even blink an eye and my dress fits perfectly! The staff and seamstresses are so nice! I recently had my dress altered at Altered for the Altar and it came out perfect! The dress was a little bit tricky with a very detailed sequin pattern, but they did a wonderful job of explaining to me exactly how they were going to alter it (in a different way than they typically do), to not take away from any of the unique detailing. When I went for my final fitting, it looked amazing and they took the time to show me exactly how the bustle worked (and they sure made it easy!). I was not happy with my experience from the beginning! The first day I went for try-in my foot got a long scratch with the pins they were using to adjust the size, that took a few weeks to heal. At the final try-in the lace part of my neckline was torn! The fixed that right away but when I tried on the dress at home before the wedding I noticed that they didn’t sew it right. It was asymmetric on the hips, so my mom had to take it to her friend to adjust that and also iron the dress cause the dress was all wrinkly and the height adjustment was not correct cause it actually got stock under my wedding shoes and all the time I felt like I was tripping over. They had to cut the length of my dress but didn’t give me the part they removed. It has Swarovski crystals and the lining was Chanel so it was worth applying it to other cloth pieces. In addition to that, the bustle was terrible! First of all it took my mom 15 minutes to do it on my wedding date and she had practiced before. Second, it didn’t stay up the whole night and came off during dancing. So basically I paid almost $900 and nothing was right.

Ive been through two fittings now, and they have always been very fast and amazing. During my last fitting, I was struggling with a decision to alter my dress in a way that would have pleased my mother, but not necessarily me. And Im an older bride, paying for my own gown and wedding, but who wants to make mom mad at the wedding? :) They talked me through the decision and made me feel so much better. I cant wait to see the final product in a couple weeks, as they have done an amazing job so far. Im so very happy I chose them to alter my dress! Thank you for easing my mind and taking a little bit of stress off! I cant recommend them enough. You will not be disappointed.

I am so beyond thankful for Altered for the Altar and absolutely cannot recommend them enough! After going somewhere else for the first part of my alterations (and having the worst experience) my planner recommended Altered for the Altar and my only regret is not taking my dress to them from the beginning. Ruth squeezed me in last minute (10 days before my wedding), and patiently explained why I felt like the dress still wasn’t fitting right and what she could do to fix it. There is no doubt in my mind her and her team could have completely restructured the top of my dress and it would have been flawless!! But, I truly appreciated that she didn’t tell me what decision I should make. She just wanted me to be happy and feel beautiful on my wedding day, I literally cried tears of joy during my appointment. Each and every person we interacted with was kind, helpful and went above and beyond. Wedding planning is already stressful, so do yourself a favor and take your dress to Ruth and her team. I promise, from the second you step in the door you won’t regret it, these ladies are the best in DFW!

Ruth did an AMAZING job on my gown. It fit like an absolute dream. Every fitting was super quick and easy, they were accommodating when I had to reschedule last-minute, and got me in early every time I was there. Ruth walked me through a few ideas and made certain I was comfortable with everything we did, showing me exactly what it would do to the gown and making additional suggestions. My bustle was so pretty on the day-of too! I had a chantilly lace dress that had been deemed difficult to work with but she made it look easy. Id recommend them to every Dallas bride.

Ruth, Rylee, & their team are seriously the best! They will always be real with you & customize your dress & accessories perfectly for your special day! My favorite part of my sessions are looking around the shop with a glass of champagne & speaking with the staff. They are always making me feel welcome. Absolutely adored working with Rylee and Ruth. They fitted my wedding dress to me like a glove. I didn’t feel at all uncomfortable the day of the wedding and I felt totally secure that everything was going to remain in its correct place. The best part though was that they created a stunning veil out of the lace from the wedding dress my mom, aunt, and grandmother all wore. They were so honest with me that I wouldn’t be happy having their dress altered to be my wedding dress (it was so brittle and discolored) but they came up with the even better idea of creating a veil out of the beautiful lace. Now I can pass this veil down to my future daughters and this wedding dress can be worn by even more generations. The veil made my day even more special for me, my mom, my aunt and my grandmother. These ladies are absolute perfection!

All I can say is this place is incredible. There are no hidden fees, they lay everything out up front on paper at your first fitting and tell you exactly what they are going to do and what you are paying for (and the price is reasonable). Everyone who works there is incredibly skilled at what they do. My dress had to go from a size 8 to a 00 and it looks completely original. The bust and neckline had tricky fine mesh and lace and it went into a backless V but they had no issues making it look perfect and beautiful! I am so thrilled at how my dress looks. I will absolutely be referring this place to any other brides looking for a place that does it right!!

Altered for the Altar was incredible! My daughter had her wedding dress lined and altered with Ruth and we are incredibly happy with the result. My daughters wedding dress had a very delicate lace pattern on the top that was completely sheer. After going to multiple other seamstresses in the Dallas area, Ruth was the only one able to come up with a creative idea that ultimately kept the integrity of my daughters dress. Ruth and her team also made us a custom veil that used elements of the lace on the dress to match. Cant say enough good things!

Amazing - they took my intricately beaded/jeweled lace designer dress and took it down about 3 full sizes (purchased a sample size). I appreciated that you pay up front at the first fitting and dont have to worry or wonder about fees being added on as you go. Turned out perfect!

LOVED this duo - theyre amazing! They were so knowledgeable and very clearly highly experienced. Worth every penny and my dress looks AMAZING!! They also have wonderfully fun personalities so we always enjoyed the fitting appointments :)

Everyone at Altered for the Altar is so nice and welcoming, and they did a great job! My dress was a simple, fitted sheath which can be difficult to get just right but they stuck with it until we had everything perfect! I appreciate all their hard work and my dress looked amazing the day of!

This is literally the first time I have ever taken the time to write a review on anything. I had to do it this time because these ladies are seriously amazing! I had a last minute issue 2 weeks before my wedding and came to them panicked. They found a way, in a booked solid day, to squeeze me in and assured me they could do it in time. They made me feel beautiful and like what I was asking was no problem. On top of that, they were friendly, funny, and helped me have a great time. One week later my alterations were done! The dress fit great and all was well. I cannot emphasize how important it is to have people alter your dress that specialize in wedding dresses. There are so many intricacies with bridal gowns that taking it elsewhere is a huge mistake. THIS IS YOUR BEST OPTION!

I had a huge event to go too and needed something similar to Spanx without the crazy price tag but still the same results! Of course Altered for the Altar delivered with amazing service, great prices, and the perfect under garments for the occasion!

Although pricey, they have a great eye for detail and do wonderful work. They were so kind too!

Not happy with the results for my wife’s wedding dress. Had to make more alteration after the last fit shortly after we arrived to our destination-wedding. Expected better results for the money they charged.Disappointing.

Did you ever wish to wear your mothers wedding gown or Mom was this your dream? Well my daughter and I had a similar vision that somehow we would like to incorporate my wedding gown into her wedding. Well Stardust Celebration introduced us to Ruth and Rylee at Altered for the Altar and this is exactly what they did for us. They took my 30 year old wedding dress and made it into a beautiful laced cocktail dress. My daughter wore this dress for the rehearsal dinner and both of us couldnt have been more pleased with the elegance of this dress they created. They also took very good care of my veil and fixed it as well so she could wear this on her wedding day.Of course it also goes without saying that both Ruth and Rylee were more than accommodating putting up with all of the fittings needed for the 3 different dresses she was wearing for the 4 day weekend event, the customer service was excellent. So if you need a dress altered or one created from something old, these are the seamstresses you want to hire to make your dreams come true.Thank you Ruth and Rylee for making our dreams come true and a life long memory that will be passed down for generations to come. It was wonderful working with both of you.
