Ive been to many tandy stores in California. This is one of the smaller ones. But theyre definitely the friendliest and their selections of leather is great despite smaller square footage. Id highly recommend this particular tandy.

First time at Tandy Leather and like the previous reviews, WOW! Very helpful, kind, friendly, no pressure sales staff. Looking forward to building my leather crafting skills and am so fortunate to have such a unique store like this right in my city!

My husband and son are finding all kinds of new goodies. Son made me a carrier for the knife in my purse, They also bought a holster for my handgun. He died it with a beautiful reddish-pink color, I would like to come in and find a project. My late mother had a leather working kit and I am going to ask my dad if I can search the attic in the garage for it. I have a few stamps of my own that I intend to use for glass as well as leather. I sure hope I can find her chest as there are quite a few stamps in there, and other important things.

I used to go into this store when they were located in Fountain Valley. Now that its in Costa Mesa, they have a much larger selection of tools, and materials.Ive been going to this store for years, and the one thing that constantly brings me back is the helpful staff. You can walk in there knowing nothing about leather crafting, and they will give you all the information you need to do whatever project you have in mind. The sales person immediately knew what kinds of dye, and supplies I would need when I brought in a photo of what I had in mind. Mind you that for some projects, it wont be cheap; mostly because this is high quality stuff. They also have really good, value priced beginners kits for more simple items. They can help you with anything from leather armor, to something as simple as a wallet or an iPhone case. After years of costume making, and conventions, Tandy Leather is the only place I go for my leather projects.

I know someone commented on the mans customer service, but hes a teddy bear. Id rather shop here where someone is passionate about what they sell rather than treat it like a commodity. Great store and workers are very knowledgable... Im not experienced with leather and they were very helpful on helping me select what I needed.

I agree. If it wasnt for Scapps I would be there more often. I believe he is the older man. He is incredibly, incredibly annoying and when he looks at me across the store to speak, I just put my head down and keep walking. When he speaks- I answer with Yes or No, I pay and then get the hell out of there. That sounds rude but if you have any experience with him , you learn very fast to avoid contact as much as possible. Everyone is else is awesome.

My favorite place to shop for leather supplies. Everyone there really wants to help your project all good and sell you only the best, not what happens to be whats most expensive. Shout out to Ron, my favorite guy there to go to!

Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., all training has been suspended, if and when they decide to open this store. After being in contact with their Texas HQ, they have no idea, when they plan on reopening this store. They have a great staff working he and its a shame that some people dont acknowledge this and provide merchandise to sell Tandy products. Might have to start looking else where for items.

BEST customer service EVER!I went in to the Costa Mesa store carrying a pattern and big plans for two pairs of shearling slippers to be finished by Christmas. I had never attempted these before. Both Steve and Nathaniel greeted me. Nathaniel remembered me from a phone call the day before. Steve read thru the entire 10-pages of directions, and commented on the good & bad parts of the project. He checked out the patterns that I had sketched. Then he walked me thru the store, showing me not only the products that were required for the project, but also the qualities of each item available. We went thru skins, stitching methods, soles, glue, time and....money.He made sure that I knew exactly what I was getting into. I told Steve that the project was looking more daunting as we went. He gently agreed, and suggested I come back after Christmas when I wasnt in a hurry to complete the slippers. After an hour of looking & learning, I told him that I hated to leave without buying something. The guys were not fazed, and we continued to chat. I only bought a small pack of leather needles--and even that came with a warning from Steve about the sharpness and inherent danger of these specialty needles.I thanked them for their candor, and said they kept me from a huge mess that would involve frustration and lots of tears. I am so grateful that they didnt let me go plowing along blindly with something that was probably going to result in a lot of angst.I resolved to return after the new year, and calmly tackle one pair of slippers. I finally left with my needles and a catalog, and a really warm, fuzzy feeling--just like the slippers I didnt make.Thank you, guys!

I frequent this store at least once a month, usually twice. In the past I have loved this store and the employees have been helpful; however, that has recently changed. Last week I went in there and inquired about the price of a piece of leather, when I said it was a bit too rich for my blood the employee (the receipt has the name Scapps) made a comment suggesting that I was cheap. I ignored the comment and continued shopping. When I was checking out I asked him a question about sealing leather masks so that they stay stiff and dont absorb moisture. His response was I have thought about doing leather masks but then I realized that I would rather spend my time doing something worthwhile. Seriously, you just insulted a customer? I wish I could say that was then end of it.Yesterday I went in with a few small purchases ing mind (a few small buckles). Good old Mr. Scapps said said to me, Are you here for another $2 buckle purchase? This not a comment you make to a customer. I shrugged it off. I was looking at some closeout items that had no marked price. I asked Scapps how much the item was. After he took my Gold club (A buyer program that offers buyers a discount in exchange for a membership fee) number he made a few key strokes and then he said to me, I dont know this seems too pricey for you its $9. In the past year I have probably spent around a thousand dollars at this store. I am beyond offended at this mans customer service. With that said, the rest of the employees are very helpful and friendly. I often ask them for pointers or suggestion and they tend to be very helpful. With the exception of Scapps the employees are great. I can say that if I go into this store and I hear another rude comment I will call him on it right then, and walk out of the store (and never return). If it werent for may last two visits I would have given the store 5 stars but because of Scapps they are luck to get 3. Sorry guys.
