Best music store in milles, with a great tradition of excellence and a wide variety of music instruments in different categories, as well as accessories, books, lessons. My son explored the different rooms and tested several instruments, he was excited to find the coqui wooden percussion and other instruments. We have been loyal renters from West Music. They have professional staff, great store hours for a busy family, and offer lessons. Weve taken Uke Can Do It classes, which were so much fun. Adults and young kiddos can take it. We are thrilled to have this locally owned business, who is generous to the arts community in our area, in our town.

A friendly and knowledgeable staff who doesnt immediately jump down your throat when you walk in. They will greet you, offer help, and then leave you to your own devices if you so wish. Thats a huge deal for me. They have quite a selection of instruments, equipment, and lesson books. I was quite impressed.

Very good service. The staff members are very helpful to help you find what you need and the appropriate materials and instruments. You can easily rent, buy, repair, and clean your instrument there. A wide selection of instruments as well from pianos to euphoniums to violins, there are a variety of styles. One of the primary brands is Accent but I believe there are a few others as well.

Our kid has rented flutes & violins from West Music very reasonably. They offer in-house repairs of instruments with friendly technicians & staff with follow up by email. Music lessons are $25 per session (as of yesterday, I think I was inquiring about trumpet or guitar). Always an inspiring place to stop by, wow!!

Never had a bad experience until recently. Ordered a book for my sons college piano class. After a week of no follow up or call, went to store to follow up. They claim they had no record of placing the order. After standing around waiting for 1/2 hour, another associate apologized, said they could reorder it or we could do it on Amazon. Left the store and ordered it on-line. And they wonder why stores like Amazon are putting them out of business.

I walked around in this store for almost 30 minutes without any of the dozen or so employees so much as making eye contact with me. Selection is limited and prices are very ambitious.Im better off shopping online. Same level of customer service, vastly better selection and far more reasonable prices.

West music has been a part of our family for over 40 years and I swear they never change. Still the best sales and service for instruments, new and used. Great teachers as well. Nicole for piano and Dennis for trumpet, theyve helped my son become a more confident and proficient artist.

This store has lots of great music stuff. I saw saxaphones , clarinets,trumpets,trombones, flutes and guitars. They have music books and reeds. They also have guitar strings in their large guitar area. They have lessons available for a wide array of instruments. There is a service center with great instrument repair. There is also a large showroom of Grand pianos and uprights.

I call this place An upscale guitar center. It has all the selection that you would expect at a guitar center, but with a whole lot more class. It also has a great selection of more classic instruments, such as grand pianos and wood wind selections. The repair center is what brings us here though, they have very professional technicians who seem like experts in their field. We always feel well taken care of for a reasonable price, we trust thousands of dollars of equipment in their very capable hands.

West Music is lucky to get any stars. Called and tried repeatedly to get someone from service and to see about how to get a part for my Yamaha Clavinova. All I got was crickets. No call backs. Will not buy another instrument from them personal or for church.

My son started band and we bought his instrument here. They offer financing options but if you can afford to, it is much cheaper to buy the instrument outright. Financing ends up costing almost double over the three year term. They have a lot of selection and staff seems knowledgeable about the variety of instruments and school programs.

Andy (guitar) and Bruce (repair) were very professional and helpful. Bruce did excellent work on my acoustic guitar (Taylor). Would recommend this store to anyone who needs help with their guitars.

My son and I came with a Mommy&Me playgroup from North Liberty with Iowa City Moms Blog and we had the BEST time. We learned all about the instruments and the instructor was fabulous! Instilling a lifetime of love for the arts is so important!

Asked for advice. People were very informative and provided detailed information. I returned after calling a local teacher, made arrangements for lessons and bought an instrument and accessories.

Weve bought guitars, drums, recording equipment here, have had instruments repaired, have rented strings, percussion for school band, have taken lessons in piano and drums... have always had a great experience with West. They never make you feel clueless and are able to scale advice and expense to your level of interest.

Friendly staff that are very helpful, ok selection of amps and guitars. Dont carry left-handed guitars. Guitar repair and setup prices seem very expensive compared to services from other similar guitar stores. More than twice as much for the same services to replace a nut and setup. I would trust their work though with an expensive instrument.

WAY overpriced. Who buys their 10 year old kid who is playing an instrument for the first time a $900 instrument. What a joke! Staff takes forever to help customers and then is not very knowledgeable. I recommend buying instruments online from Guitar Center or traveling to Des Moines or Chicago. Once your child is playing for a year or two then invest in a nicer instrument.

Bought my first guitar here. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Great selection of guitars as well. And for those of you who complain that its all too pricy, remember that you get what you pay for.

We called to have a piano moved on Thursday morning and the morning of they left a message saying they werent going to be able to do the job. Called multiple times to try to reschedule with them, finally got a call back and set up the move for Saturday at 8am. Saturday at 8am comes and NO ONE SHOWS UP. Sat around waiting for almost 1 hour when I finally receive a text saying, I hope the moving team got a hold of you to let you know that we canceled today due to the weather (snow was in the forecast all week and they scheduled the move anyway). Tried calling the number from the text and no answer. I left a message about how their customer service sucks, that they guaranteed the piano to be here this week, and that I expect the piano to be moved Monday morning as I need it for my job. About 30 minutes after that, the moving people call and leave a message saying were not going to be able to move the piano today due to us having some issues with the weather. We can reschedule you for Tuesday. We wanted to apologize, obviously this is the second time weve rescheduled you, but at this point it is what it is. It is what it is??? People have rescheduled their lives and taken off work to be here for the move and according to West Music it is what it is. Pathetic customer service. This isnt the first time my family and I have experienced West Musics pathetic customer service. I will no longer purchase anything from these people. They treat their customers like garbage and never make any effort to sympathize or attempt to make it right.You can justify it all you want, but at the end of the day, the way the last cancelation was handled was completely unprofessional, unacceptable, and pathetic customer service. Having to cancel is not the problem; weve been VERY gracious about your continued last minute cancelations. The way we were treated is the problem. Good customer service is within your control and you decided that it didnt matter enough to make sure we were made aware of the cancelation. And for what its worth, good business is having a backup person to fill in for call outs. Were paying you, you guaranteed the work, and you fell through. Very unprofessional.

Terrible!! They gave me a quote for my gently used guitar that was measly and guaranteed their purchase of it if I couldnt find other places. After a week, I go to sell and the woman gives me attitude, saying that they wouldnt accept it. Not only was I counting on that money but she was rude, why would she give an estimate and later say they wouldnt buy it? TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

Spent some time here earlier this week. Looking for a strat style electric guitar. I talked to the salesperson and they set me up in a sound room so I could try a few options. I dont like people crawling all over to sell me stuff and the no hassle sales approach really appealed to me. Tried 4 different guitars in about 30 minutes and bought a nice Bullet strat HSS which might be one of the best guitars for the money Ive ever owned in 25 yrs of playing. Highly recommend this store and the Squire Bullet strats.

This music store does not give warranty for instruments bought out right but act like they do. We bought it for the warranty used, so if something went wrong, this expensive item could be covered. We needed a repair. 50 phone calls for 25 dollars each person saying “oh sorry that is covered by warranty”. Then final phone call we went in and were rudely treated. Also they tell us now it never had a warranty and their employees were wrong. Not a big deal but they are rude and like the madia over 25.00 and uninformed about their own policies.

Bruce Vander Schel is truly an incredible luthier and repairman. He recently completed a neck reset on my 1978 Martin D-35 along with a few other minor repairs on the guitar. The instrument plays and sounds better than it ever has since I bought the guitar new in 1978. Bruces work is impeccable and he really cares about his craft - not to mention you can tell he loves what he does for a living. He also happens to be a great human being and a musician too. I would highly recommend Bruce for any and all repair work you need. He brought my Martin back to life and I cant put it down! Really, do yourself a favor and call Bruce - he is meticulous. I traveled from St. Louis to Coralville and it was worth every mile.
