I had two acoustic guitars that needed some major going through. I brought them in to Mike and I gotta say, my guitars sound brand new! I am very pleased with Mikes craftsmanship and care that goes into the instruments he works on. Very reasonable price. If you arent happy he will make it right. If you need work done on a string instrument i strongly suggest giving Mike a call.

I have an older Seagull acoustic guitar and I noticed that the heel of the neck was pulling away from the body. I was certain that it was a goner, but I called Mike and described the problem. He had me bring it in and quoted a very affordable repair fee, and half up front as a deposit (common practice for a small business, this makes perfect sense to me). I picked the guitar back up and the results were astounding. I have had this guitar for over 20 years, it plays better than it has ever played! He removed and reset the neck, firmed up the bridge, the frets were polished to a mirror finish, the neck brushed down smooth, and he even applied lacquer where I had pick-rashed the finish off. It is such a joy to play again! He put in a tremendous amount of care into it. I am telling you, take your instruments to him. He is the real deal.

Mike did an incredible setup on my new Strat. After about a decade of not playing I bought a new guitar on a whim and knew I needed a solid setup to make dipping my toes back in the water as easy as possible, couldn’t be more thrilled with Mike’s work. Highly recommend.

Mike went above and beyond to take my Taylor guitar from factory standard, to a more custom action that will help with my beginners level. Very quick turn around and very reasonable price for what must have been hours of work. It is good to see someone with this type of passion in Columbus!

Mike did an amazing job restoring my 1970s fender jazz bass! He was able to find all the parts I needed, clean the bass up, get the neck back inline, adjust and file my frets, check the electronics, re-seat the nut, and re-string the bass for a great price. He took the time to hear my concerns and work with me to understand what I needed done. The workmanship was excellent and if you need something done to one of your guitars, bass guitars, violins etc I would definitely take it to Mike! Quality work 100%

I brought my Stratocaster to Mike because my chords were always out of tune even though the stings were in tune when played open. Keep in mind, this is after I took it to the Guitar Center for maintenance. It was so bad that my guitar was hardly playable at all. I dropped it off with Mike on a Thursday and it was ready to be picked 2 days later. He replaced the nut, recrowned and polished the frets and set the intonation. I brought it home and was amazed. My guitar has never sounded better. I HIGHLY recommend A String Instrument Repair. Mike is an extremely nice guy and definitely knows his trade. The work he does is phenomenal. If you need work done, this is the place.

Where do I begin? First off, I was meaning to write this yesterday but after receiving my guitar back from Mike I just couldnt put the thing down long enough to write a review. This man is a a genius and his craftsmanship is second to none. If you need any sort of work done please do yourself a favor and at least call and talk to him. As long as he continues his craft, I will be a loyal customer.

Mike has worked on many of my guitars and I am a lifelong professional guitarist who has toured for many years and spoiled on my Memphis Luthiers where I am from, one of which went on to run the custom shop at PRS. A buddy of mine told me about Mike and brought over his guitar to show me his fret job and I was very impressed as many times when you get a guitar re-fretted it never plays the same again. Mike is every bit as good if not better than the master luthiers who have worked on my guitars in Memphis, Nashville, and Atlanta.Being a professional I need my guitar back yesterday and if you are in a hurry he can get it to you very quickly. Since meeting him 2 years ago he has re-fretted at least 5 of my guitars that where abused on the road, he has leveled, crowned, and dressed the frets on many more and cut a new nut on several others. I am good at working on my own guitars but have been perplexed before on electronic problems and he has not only either told me how to fix it or fix it himself, but has often times told me different options that I never even thought of.He never uses cheap components and will not give it back to you until it is right and he will stand by his work. He has worked on many professional players guitars for a reason. If you want a true professional who does not take a long time and is affordable look no other place because Mike is the man. I send all my students to him that need repairs and this is the only place to go in Columbus. I even have sent students to him that had guitars that where on the lower end and if the repair is worth more than the guitar he is always honest about it saving them money instead of lining his pockets.These are 3 irreplaceable Guitars that I trusted him to re-fret and he did a beautiful Job and is currently re-fretting my 20 year old Gibson Hummingbird that has seen many gigs.

My guitar has been my best friend since 1975. I love the guitars sound, look and feel. It isnt valuable but to me, it is priceless. Had my 28 year old Fender Stratocaster refretted. Price was very reasonable, turnaround was good, and the work was great. Mike is very knowledgeable and gives great advice. I now have medium high cryogenically treated frets which I am liking so far. The intonation is fantastic and the guitar definitely plays better than new. So glad to have a luthier like him available in Columbus.

Mike set up my 1977 Fender Mustang and it’s like a whole new guitar now. Thanks to Mike, my old girl plays just as smooth as my American Strat. I couldn’t say that before he worked his magic.
