I just have to say how lovely, helpful, and good-humored everyone was at U-haul on Elmwood! I recently had to pack/store my entire house for a big move, and so I spent the better part of a week in & out. For every new armful of boxes I had to buy and every carful I moved in, they were there to help...and it was nice to be greeted warmly each time! Thank you Elmwood folks!

Like other reviewers, we also experienced an issue with an online reservation. The manager, Ms Green, went above and beyond to assist us in making our move without a hitch. She could have turned us away or said it wasn’t her job, but she really went the extra mile. After multiple phone calls with other managers, who didn’t all seem so willing to help, she found us a truck at a nearby location. This Uhaul location cares about its customers. Thank you!!!

Extremely polite and attentive customer service. Miss Green spent over an hour trying to correct the issues of another U-Haul dealer trying to find me a hitch assembly for my car, and while we weren’t successful, she did all in her power to resolve the issue. I also rented a trailer here last year and that process went smoothly.

General Manager Tomega Green is AWESOME!!!!! She literally provided us a high level services. We made an appointment online to pick up the equipment at 901 Knox Abbott Dr, the lady told us they did not have any equipments available at that store and asked us to call 1-800-GO-U-HAUL find the solution. We have been holding by this call for about thousand years, nobody answered my call (U-Haul customer service sucks). We were so disappointed. Then, we tried to come 1037 Elmwood Ave, luckily, we met Tomega, she understood what we are experiencing and helped us find the solutions. Finally, she found one store has one equipment available and called them to verify. She changed our views on U-Haul customer service.

Rented a unit for 3 months and checked out 20 days early on the last month the manager at this location said i would get a pro rated refund for remaining days just to free up unit i believe cause when i called customer service they said no refunds. So they just scammed me out of leaving some things in the unit for my remaining paid days. Horrible customer service they act like you are bothering them if you ask questions. Dont recommend their services at all find another place they are scammers.

My experience at this place was extremely terrible. I came to get a storage that took over an hour. Then I came back a couple days later to move in my things in first problem, the girl by the name of Nicole was really ghetto poor customer service didnt even greet. She tells me my name isnt even is the system after she did my contract only a couple days before second problem. I couldnt even move my things in because I had to go all the way back home to get my receipt then to top it off the elevator was broken my unit was on the 3rd floor she didnt even offer a discount. They expected my help to carry heavy furniture up the stairs. Ghetto place please dont come here.

U-HAUL is so disappointing. I reserved a 15’ truck for pick up at 2PM. For whatever reason, U-HAUL schedules drop off and pick up times to be EXACTLY THE SAME. So if my reservation is at 2PM and the person before me doesn’t have the truck back at exactly 2PM, it messes up my moving schedule. This is extremely asinine. I was told to call the call center to find another location and was unsuccessful. Shannan (at the actual store) was extremely helpful. NOT Vanessa from the call center. Thankfully another customer came back with a bigger truck (30 mins later than they were supposed to) and I took their truck. Again NOT the one that I reserved. This will be THE LAST time I use this company. So disappointing.

Zero flexibility, limited hours and access to your items, and difficult entry. I would NOT recommend U-Haul storage. Their system was down so it took them much longer than it should have to check in. Then we were told that we HAD to be out of the gate by 5 pm (in less than 30 minutes for an entire Uhaul full of stuff!). It was very difficult to pull in to the business and due to a lack of a clear traffic flow pattern, we got blocked in when we trying to move the Uhaul.We were stuck in the very back end of a maze of corridors with tight corners. They also wouldnt let us just move the Uhaul out if the gate and put everything on the ground and leave when we were done. You have LIMITED access to your items: only during open office hours I found another storage place that gives you access to your stuff 24/7 (which you SHOULD have) and reserved a bigger unit over the phone for the following day (for a better price), but this forced us to extend the Uhaul reservation by another day. The employee offered no apologies and simply said its out of my hands. However the website, front office, and even the storage area show they are open until 10 pm. This is a LIE!!!

I stopped by to grab a few wardrobe boxes. There were literally 20 in the store and the employee would not sell me them because they were not inventoried. What?? You have the product and cant figure out how to sell it. AFTER I had to wait 20 minutes while she finished up with another customer.

Been using UHaul storage and trucks for years but will never go back.NASTY CAUCASION female on duty Thursday 06/05/2020 at the Elmwood Ave location.As well, a leak in my storage unit that I now have to use my insurance to pay for.

I wanted to say how impressed I have been with your location on Elmwood in Columbia, SC. The manager Devon Young runs a tight ship. Of course the place is clean, employees are friendly and curious , service is quick, and in general things work and storage is not something I worry about. Mr. Young has taken care of my needs for four years as my wife and I moved around and my daughter attended college. Mr. Young has been happy to rearrange our needs as our requirements have changed without a worry or hitch. I have taken vans, trucks and had multiple storage from this location without a hitch. I have appreciated how easy he has made my life. I will continue to do business with uhaul because of him and his team.

Dont use this facility I had my stuff broken into and ransacked all my personal things and all my sneakers and other things dear to me taken, they open my lock went in and then put my lock back.You tell me........no camera no one cares cop came and said happens all the time here ....he didnt even take finger prints nothing... sad.

Easy secure location for downtown residents. Management always helpful and polite. Have two units here for 2.5 years. More expensive than most but paying for convenience.

Has a good staff who will help the best they can with your rental and storage needs. Good inventory as well.

They do not sell 2.5 inch receivers, and the 2 women there werent interested in learning how to install a 2 inch ball for me.... its funny, one of the women told the other one that she would show her how to do it. After they couldnt figure it out I asked if I could show them. Once I got started they both walked off!! So funny!! You know theres nothing wrong with not knowing how to do something, but when a customer is showing you how to do your job youd think they would have been grateful.

The whole chain of Uhaul in Columbia is garbage. Rude staff, rude and unprofessional management...all the way up to the President. It’s a shame for a national company to be this bad. I travel all over the US and have never had so many problems with a company as a whole. Stay away!

I would have rated this place as better but there were a few things. Its too hard to get turned around and limited parking spots. You cant turn left but if you cross over to the shopping center and go behind you can get to a stop light and turn left.The thing that really got me though was they told me I was required to purchase their optional insurance. It was something specific with the van I was renting and only required on those vans. No paperwork states that, no forms say that, nothing. Needless to say I didnt have time to fight them over this issue and needed the van now. When returning I asked a second employee if the insurance was required, he said yes as well. I contacted corporate through chat online and within 2 days I was contacted and informed I would receive a refund of my money for the insurance.Hopefully the other locations are better.

The people charge you for everything. The facility is blocked off randomly during night hours with no warning. Parking is bad. The key fob does not work. It may look nice but its a clusterf.

Fantastic team, clean vehicles, unmatched service... and even clean bathrooms!I called the uhaul closest to my house and was disgusted with the heavy-handed sales pitch and aggressive man who kept demanding my credit card number (west Columbia).THEN I went to Elmwood Uhaul....No heavy sales, no sleaze... instead I got a warm smile, real help and just what I needed.I wholeheartedly recommend the Elmwood Uhaul and all its employees!Thanks guys... you made a painful and stressful experience far, far better.Sincerely,Jesse Moskel

I reserved a truck for pickup at this location, first thing in the morning (7:00 a.m.). The day before my scheduled move, I got a notification that my truck was at Broad River Road. Besides the fact that Broad River is extremely inconvenient for me to get to (Irmo), I had to immediately take a half day from work to go to Broad River to pick up the vehicle as my movers were arriving at 8:00 a.m. and the Broad River location doesnt open until 9:00 a.m. I tried to explain that the reason I picked the Elmwood location was due to their early pick-up hours and was essentially told that it was not their problem. Although the truck was ready and clean, these issues created substantial chaos for me during an already chaotic period (as moving typically is). Before reserving my truck initially I had read other reviews posting of similar issues with U-Haul in this area - they were right. I am not sure if this is an Elmwood issue or general issue with U-Haul facilities in Columbia, but I would not recommend.

Do NOT rent from this U-Haul location!!! My information was already in the system and it took the grumpy lady behind the desk 20 minutes to plug in my information, taking breaks to watch Donald Trump Videos. I walked outside to hook up the trailer which took another 20 minutes because my rental was behind a gentleman’s who was having a taillight fuse problem. He offered to move his vehicle because he saw I was patiently waiting, but the lady (Kenya I think was her name) told me to wait until she fixed his fuse .... she is no Mechanic and when I politely asked the lady if the man could move his car slightly forward where she could continue to “fix” his fuse, she replied “you could have gone to another uhaul location”, catching me off guard because of her un-called for response. She worked on the mans fuse for another 15 minutes until she finally realized she’s not as good at solving fuse problems as she thought, even the gentleman’s car who she was working on became fustrated. Kenya authorized me to go back into the office to get my paperwork which I already showed her 2 mintutes prior. My brother was standing beside me the entire time and Kenya asked him later if he wanted to rent a U-Haul ... she was on some kind of dope substances or she’s just not the sharpest knife in the drawer. The gentleman’s car whom Kenya was attempting to fix poligized to me on her behalf from her unprofessional behavior. The goal of a company is to satisfy your customers with your service; in my case rent a U-Haul in a quickly, convienant, and organized manner. Do NOT Reccomend this U-Haul location!!!!! I don’t leave reviews on company’s, but I felt obligated to aware potential customers from receiving the same poor service I experienced.

The decker Blvd uhaul put car oil on my uhaul lock and they robbed me! My storage was inside their office units. And uhaul called the police on ME!!?

Homeless people live in these storage buildings and you will be badgered by them for money. Very sketchy area and the manager is a joke. Even uhauls customer service number is terrible and they are rude and will rip you off. Will never choose Uhaul for storage ever.
