Everything was old timey and full of culture. And of course, a bit pricey.

A step back in time...what a great store. It even has barrels of penny type candy. They have so many wonderful clothing items. Plus, great organic jams, honey etc.... We will go back again and again! Hey..there are numerous Christmas gift items!!

So glad that we stopped here passing through to go to Savannah. Super cute store with a lot of random goodies from shirts to bags to mugs, you name it honestly. Rebecca was super helpful with our dog and taking our basket of goodies while we were waiting in line. Would gladly stop by here again

I cant believe all these yrs living in the Columbia area, I finally went into the Mast General Store! Conveniently located down town on Main St, good luck with parking, its a hit or miss at times. But I do love hanging out DT and discovering new shops and places to eat, Columbia has a small time charm.The store is clean, packed and neatly organized, they have everything that you can think of, literally...Take your time and stroll, this isnt a store to rush thru, they have a upstairs and downstairs. You will miss something if your in a hurry! I actually found some cute sun dresses and ole timey candy in the back area! Kinda expensive but they do have sales all the time, so visit often as you can. Yes, this will be a store that I visit often thru the yrs.Customer service is excellent!

Always a great place to walk through and shop in. My favorite area is downstairs, where all the outdoor/camping equipment and clothing is. Theyve got a great selection and if I ever need to try something in person I go here to do it.

A must see for yourself farmers market featuring artisan craftsmen.

Interesting place with many unusual items that would be difficult to find anywhere else in Columbia. Check out the candy isle in the back of the store.

I honestly come only for the first floor. The candy, soaps and home goods are always great. A great additional stop while im perusing Soda City Market.They are one of the few that have Life is good. Clothing and are great for particular gifts.

Looking for hiking equipment. Staff had knowledge of the brands and fit for backpacks, hiking socks and sun treated shirts. Very pleasant staff. Going back. Much bigger selection than our hiking store.

One of the coolest store I’ve ever been in —I just loved it. Unbelievable variety of high quality outdoor gear, all top brands and fantastic selection. Amazing look and feel to the store, which is something like 130 years old. Still intact squeaky floors and banisters, old memorabilia everywhere —very cool vibe. Extremely friendly, helpful and polite staff. Can’t wait to go back.

Just an Amazing place to visit if youre in Columbia!! We spent and hour + looking at all the cool things like child hood memories. Friendly stay and just a one stop shop place to visit. Very unique items.

My first time visiting a Mast General Store. It was very cool! Staff was friendly and so many neat items. Thoroughly enjoyed the old fashioned atmosphere of the store. Prices on many of the items seemed too high, but there were some good buys as well.

A fantastic throwback store in the general store theme. A little bit of everything. Great theming, and a large variety of items to interest almost everyone. Fun to browse, and a great stopping point before hiking or camping.

The Columbia, SC location is the only Mast store I have visited. The employees are always more than helpful. They make sure that you know that they are there to help, but stay far enough away that they do not actually bug you. The clothing options are great. If youre in the mood for candy...this is the place to go for candy! Now that we are starting hiking more, I have a feeling that we will be back for hiking supplies. Keep up the fine work.

Im a little overdue on this review because Ive visited it a few times over the past few years. I think that alot people just dont know how much is offered in this store that is located in the downtown of Columbia SC community. Its conveniently located on main street in Columbia and there is garage and street parking nearby. I usually visit this store whenever Im visiting other business on Main street or on Saturdays while I might be visiting the Soda City Market.This store is always clean and well maintained by the very professional staff. Currently the store is operating on limited capacity and within the COVID-19 pandemic precautions. All the staff and customers must wear face masks. The store is 2 floors and has pretty much anything you might need for any outdoor adventures. Im positive that i will be back in near future and Ill recommend them for friends and family members.

Mast General Store is a Columbia staple. Whether youre looking for clothes, shoes , camping supplies, housewares, or local foods, you can find some amazing choices here. Its dog friendly so dont be surprised if you see pups walking around with their humans. Plus theres a nice Gamecock selection. Its one of our favorite stops when were looking for gifts.

We went there because of a promotion they were running. I like Mast a lot, but parking is usually difficult to find. End of summer prices led me to purchase a pair of shorts and a polo. Mast is a great general store. Great place for outdoor products and wear. I suggest you look into the tailgate style rockers.

I love Mast General Store. It is such a great store. There are so many great things to choose from. You will feel like you are in an old fashioned store. My favorite part of the store is the candy section. All of my childhood favorites. The staff is also friendly I would recommend this place to everyone.

A big variety of various goods are sold here. Nice big bulk section of different candies, classic favorites and kid favorites along with newer candies. Lots of mast general themed foods like jams and sauces. Lots of clothes that are locally themed or generally southern themed! Definitely a good place to go for locals or tourists. Postcards magnets, stickers, and even seasonal things and toys.

My kids LOVE the candy barrels filled with all the hard-to-find candies (the kinds I grew up on!). Higher end clothing & shoe brands downstairs. No visit to Main St. is complete without visiting Mast General Store. For the uninitiated, Mast is the destination shopping experience for classic American toys, kitchen wares, and barrel candy of yesteryear. The department store features a broad selection of apparel for everyday and the outdoor enthusiast. Stop in before visiting Lake Murray or camping at Congaree for your outdoor supplies. Excellent customer service with knowledgeable staff.

This place is a bit of a tourist trap but you can get a lot of things here. It is chocked full of very cool things that means very good gifts for people. They got everything from kitchen gadgets to rare candies. Yes the place is large and it is a chain but I really have never had a bad experience going to one of these places

Place is great. A little pricey

I was looking for a store with a good selection of hiking supplies. I live an hour away and had never heard of General Mast. Today, I was in town for another appointment and decided to visit. WOW! I was greeted as soon as I walked in and given a quick tutorial on the layout of the store. Then, I was directed downstairs to the bottom floor which is entirely devoted to quality, highly rated outdoor gear. Once again, I was immediately greeted by Ashlin. She was amazing. She was so patient and detailed helping me select everything from boots to socks! She really knew the products well. I price checked against Amazon while there. I paid only $8 more for boots (well worth the expertise and convenience) and the other items were priced the same as Amazon. I was so absorbed, two hours literally flew by and I didnt even get to check out to first floor! Cant wait to go back!

Great place to shop and to work! I’ve always really liked shopping at the Mast General Store because they have a lot of unique and cool stuff. I will also forever appreciate them for my brief time working there. I was a teacher’s aide and needed a summer job. A lot of places turned me away despite ten years of retail experience, but Mast was happy to hire me, even knowing it was temporary. It is a very positive and friendly work environment, just like my shopping experiences always had been. The popcorn is great and (speaking as both a customer and former employee) they’ll pop a fresh batch whenever. Try the birch beer or the Blenheim’s ginger ale.
