Giving 5 stars for now. The process was easy and so far everyone has been great to deal with. I was a little disappointed when I called after having a few minor issues and it will be almost three weeks before they can work me into the shop. I understand but hoping I won’t have major issues down the road. Stay tuned..

I purchased a 2015 Ford F150. Due to a mechanical failure on the ride home from the Columbia S.C. store I returned it to the Augusta Ga. store. (Closer to my location) The team at the augusta location was awesome with helping me! From Tyler and his crew in the service department to the sales crew Isaiah, Felicia, Robbie, and Taylor, specifically. They all were very helpful through the process! I ended up with a newer truck and I am so far satisfied with it!

While I enjoy the car I purchased there were a few issues along the way, ranging from faulty communication (not limited to, but including blind transfers & people not knowing who I needed to speak to which resulted in some lengthy phone calls,) people saying two different things & improper data entry which prolonged the buying experience. I was also not notified of when the car arrived through the automated email system nor the txt messaging system (I only found out that it arrived when it did because I just so happened to track it that day myself). The car also wasnt thoroughly detailed to my standards, but that was probably the least important out of my gripes. The car also has a smell that indicates that it was probably owned by a smoker; if I can smell this, the people selling it should have as well & SHOULD have had it properly shampooed prior to delivering it to a customer. In closing I have mixed reviews about the experience. The people that I dealt with in person did an EXCELLENT job, but the people responsible for the matters I mentioned maid the experience less than favorable. You all have a great selection of cars, but there needs to be better communication between departments so the customer doesnt feel like the ball keeps getting dropped. All in all, the experience was somewhat annoying (but Ive had worse,) but it was all worked out in the end & I gained a nice car out of it. Better communication between departments & between CarMax & the customer in general & people being making sure not to make data entry mistakes on an application would VASTLY improve the overall experience.

I will NEVER deal with this incompetent company ever again! It was so hard for me to get the help I needed after paying $200 to get a car transferred in which I could not get back. Your employees are VERY unhelpful and give out false information. I am very disappointed in the service I received.

I had a great experience purchasing my vehicle. I had it shipped from NC, and it was a seamless process. I was provided with updates each step of the way. They have a great selection of vehicles that helps narrow down your choices. I also really enjoyed the customer service, I didn’t have a sales agent stalking me while shopping. I was able to breathe, shop in peace and not be hassled. The entire process once my vehicle arrived, after test driving and paper work was only 3 hours. Happy customer and I love my Buick!!

Had more inventory than most places but everything I was interested in (6 vehicles on the lot) were listed as reserved. So, they searched as far as Tennessee and had maybe 2 to choose from. Was ready to trade my car in and buy today, but their inventory is all reserved. Meaning not bought and waiting on a customer to make a decision to buy.

Easiest way to sell a car. I had an offer sent to me when I entered my vehicles information on Edumands. It took a little over an hour for them to look at my vehicle, verify what was still owed on it and give me a check for the rest. Awesome!

I was forgotten on my first appointment and waited for a good while, about 90 minutes. The second time I was placed with a very green salesperson which made the process of getting out the door much slower than necessary. I also didnt really feel safe in their care. We had to assist them through out most of the process in navigating their own computer software. We arrived at 5:50 for a 6:00 appointment and didnt get out till around 9:30pm.Lastly, I honestly was disappointed with my experience before it even began. I shipped a car in for $200 and it was rushed to get ready for me upon request which I appreciate. However I was told that I needed to set an appointment that day to come test drive it even though I wasnt able to get there for a couple days. When I asked if there was any kind of holding period for a car you pay to have shipped, I was told there should be, but things happen. I set an appointment and called the next two days to reschedule it each time to get around this. I felt really pressured and that wasnt great.I love my car, but thats it.

CarMax has certainly refined the car buying process to simplify the process as much as possible. It was certainly a much better experience than being hounded by a car sales person. Will definitely use CarMax for future car buying and selling.

CarMax was great! My brother and mother also bought their cars from CarMax, so I knew it was going to be awesome! They contacted me quickly about the car I wanted and were very kind. They also asked what features I was looking for so, in case the car I was looking for suddenly sold, Id still have others to look at. They also were very understanding about different situations that arose (like my upcoming vacation and then teaching an hour away).

The first evaluation was very nice and easy. The sales person spent the whole time of the evaluation with me explaining how your system worked, and in casual conversation on mutual interests. when it was completed, he obtained the evaluation report and presented it to me. On the second evaluation, the sales person dilly-dallied in idle chatter for quite a while before approaching the waiting area. He invited me to an office where he looked briefly at my previous evaluation, asked for my key and disappeared until the evaluation was completed. He showed me the new evaluation which had dropped $500, and explained that demand had dropped. He handed me the new evaluation and my key, and left. So did I. The sale, for which I arrived on time, began with a long wait, and was otherwise quite pleasant.

I gave them one star because 0 stars wasnt an option. Horrible customer service, they rushed and pressured me to get a vehicle and then called me a month later and said I didnt have a lender forThe car.... I feel like if that was the case why allow me to leave off the lot and drive the car for a whole month. Not only that but the car they sold me had a sensor light come on the day they called and asked for it back. I returned it gladly and was able to go somewhere else the same day and get the same vehicle, in a newer year with less miles and my payments were less as well. If you like rude, unorganized, and unprofessional salesmen then this is the place for you!

My service was good, but I had other things that lead up to my bad experience. I had an appointment for 8pm. When we got there they said they were short on staff and had a lot of call outs. There were 2 or three people in front on us. We were seen maybe an hour later. The car that was being held for me wasnt ready. All we should of been doing is signing papers and transferring the license plate. We financed with our bank and the back cut us a check to pay CarMax. By the time we finished signing it was maybe 10:30pm. Waiting for them to pull the car around outside for about 15 minutes to fine out that the SUV that I just purchased us hit on a pole by the sales man. The car wasnt serviced properly or fully washed. The gloved box had old receipts from previous owners. We didnt leave there that night til about 11:20. They said that they would give me a call in the morning to set up a time for me to bring the vehicle back to be fixed. This has been a long process and Im still going through this right now!

The service is a joke I bought my car 5 months ago and after 90 days of its guarantee the ac stopped working call to make the appointment and they told me it would take 3 weeks. with this weather I was not going to wait those 3 weeks so I went to look elsewhere but I remembered that I had the extended warranty and I called again to now say that the appointment would take 1 month. The day of the appointment arrives at 8 am and I ask how long it would take to see the problem and they tell me that being the first car of the day it would not take more than 30 minutes, 1 hour passes and they tell me that the problem is the compressor that They are going to see if they have it, another hour passes and they tell me that unfortunately they dont have it, they are going to ask for it and they call me to schedule another appointment, I ask how long it would take for the appointment and they tell me that they dont know. so to continue without ac. terrible service

I went to their website, put in type of car interested in, pages for that type of car appears, I clicked on a specific car, page appears but pictures of the car did not appear and the link to written description does not work, I went to another car then another car and the same. To see pictures and written description of the car I went to another companys website where CarMax advertises cars and saw pictures and written description. I called CarMax about the car, I am not going to write every unprofessional and incompetent thing CarMax did over the next 2 days but website did not work, loud background noise in phone calls, did not call me back, did not respond to my email and a lot more. CarMax sells products that cost tens of thousands of dollars yet operates so poorly. During the 2 days I spent dealing with CarMax a car I was interested in from another seller was sold so I missed out of that car.

It started out ok then only got worse. I was there 3 times and each time was over 4 hours. I had finally picked a vehicle that was transferred from another state only to have something else go wrong. The sales person I spoke to stated he would give me until Wednesday to fix the double lien which that did not happen. On Saturday when I was there that is what I was told. On Monday I got the issue straightened out went back to CarMax only to find out my order had been deleted and I could not get the car I had transferred. I wound up getting a vehicle but not the one I wanted. Not very happy

I really appreciated the fact that the CarMax Salesmen allow you to search their inventory without feeling followed or harassed. I know every customer is different, therefore you cant please everyone but I prefer to let them know when Im ready or have questions and thats exactly what they did. Therefore, my experience with here was peaceful, pleasant and hassle-free. Will definitely visit this establishment again.

Would give them a negative star if I could.My family members recently attempted to purchase a vehicle and 90% of the transaction was absolutely horrible. The first seller associated with this location would not communicate with them at all and they wound up switching to a different associate. At first, they got along and even found a vehicle in another state. My family members requested for the vehicle to be shipped to the SC location. When the vehicle arrived they wanted to test drive it but the vehicle was not properly cleaned and requested sanitization to be safe. After a few days they got their money and went to get the car but found out the car was shipped somewhere else. The sales associate apologized and said that they would have it brought back. Evidently that was a lie and the vehicle that my family members were going to purchase was shipped and sold to someone else. Not recommending this CARMAX to anyone.

My car finally broke down for good. I was worried we would get nothing for it. I had to tow it to Car Max. They offered me $2,500, which I was thrilled with and accepted immediately. I think looked around the lot and found a few options. We did a 24-hour test on one and decided to buy it. My initial guy - John - kept in touch by text with me the next day when I wanted to come in and buy. He set me up with someone to help me. It was all quite easy - even though it ended up taking a really long time. The only downside would be that when you are looking around the lot, the sales people just want you to choose and then tell them what cars to open up. When I would have liked someone to spend some time answering questions while I was on the lot. But maybe it would be too time consuming for them. Otherwise, great experience.

I have used CarMax before and was very happy and satisfied with my experience. This time, of course the people were nice but I am very disappointed in the way they said they detailed my car. The dash was still dusty and when I had to pull my back seats down there was frosted flakes everywhere. I wished it had been cleaned like they said it was. The same thing happened with my future son-in-law. He actually drove his car there to leave for the day for cleaning and they didnt touch it so he had to speak to someone and had to bring it back on another day. I should be able to take it back for them to clean! That was my bad experience.

The day that we picked up my Jeep was very busy but TJ took his time with us and even apologized for our wait on signing my loan. As well as setting up my reimbursement for getting my Jeep cleaned. Best car buying experience! I sold a car to CarMax and it was a smooth process. I feel I received a great offer for the vehicle. While waiting on the paperwork for the car I was selling, I went on to the CarMax app to look for a used vehicle. While on there, I found a car in Miami Lakes and requested to have it transferred to the Columbia store. It arrived in perfect condition. I was concerned about the cars high mileage but it is a beauty and had one owner. My salesman at CarMax was super helpful and knowledageble. I drove my new/used vehicle home in less than 2 hours. No haggling or pressure! I would definitely purchase future vehicles from Carmax. Thanks for this business model because it makes car buying less stressful and what its supposed to be - happy and exciting!

An few people getting attitude in office had to make unnecessary Trips. 30 minutes away Didn’t reimburse use for our gas.They didn’t send us the right Paper. Took car to fix it.Left gas light on after fixed Vehicle.Even though they didn’t charge us to fix it after knowing what was wrong with it When we perched it they did say they would get it took car of.Hate to be like that over the small things but business is business.

Went to the dealership to pickup a tire jack that was ordered for my new vehicle. Got there at my appointment time told the lady why I was there; we were asked to sit in the waiting room…2 HOURS LATER!!!!!! I decided to get up to ask what was taking so long. Spoke with a gentleman who fixed the problem/gave us the tire jack within 5 minutes. So we sat for 2 hours on something that only took less than 5 minutes to receive. This CarMax location is VERY unorganized; customer service is great but the communication is TERRIBLE which makes the car buying process awful! Never again will I come to this location to purchase a vehicle.

Drove to Augusta, GA from Columbia, SC to see vehicles. Got to Augusta and was told all the vehicles we wanted to see were on hold or being transferred. Decided to turn around and drive to Charlotte, NC. Called ahead to hold car and let them know we wouldn’t arrive until 8pm. Called again at 7:30 to let them know that our arrival time would be 8:15. NEVER in that 3 hour drive were we told we could not drive the hold car. We arrived at 8:20 and were informed that we could not drive the car nor could they do a transfer to Columbia as only Columbia could do that. I called the Columbia phone number provided three times and was told that they didn’t have time to do the paperwork by phone to have the car transferred. However, he profusely promised me that he would call me first thing the next morning to complete the process. The call never came, so I drove to the Columbia Carmax where I took out my frustrations on Jonn Babbitt who graciously understood my frustration. I apologized to him, we started the transfer process and I was told it could take 7 days for the car to be transferred. The next morning, I went to look at new cars for comparison purposes and ended up purchasing a new car and canceled the transfer. Not the greatest of experiences with CarMax

I had a Tundra shipped to SC to test drive. The price listed on the website was 33k before I requested to test drive it. The price went to n/a the moment after the request.When I went to the dealership to test drive it they listed it at 37k. Now, I had messaged a lot of people with the price and the specs before I requested to drive it and I was really excited.I explained the situation to the salesman and he asked if I had taken a screenshot to show to his supervisor to try to lower the price. He didnt looked surprised, which leads me to believe this common practice for carmax.They offered to work with us on the price, but after losing faith completely on them, I even refused to test drive the truck.

Every single time I go here I am more disappointed than the last. If I had it to do all over again I would take my business elsewhere. They started out halfway decent up to a certain point and what seemed like a change in management & then it was downhill from there. I literally dread having to deal with these folk and how unprofessional they are, and just when I think its getting better they prove me wrong time and time again.

I have never bought a car from them but I did sell one to them recently and it was a positive experience. I did an online appraisal through Edmunds and then brought it in. They were extremely busy and seemed to be at just about full capacity however I was done in about an hour and they gave me the full price of the appraisal. The process was extremely easy and I would absolutely do it again.While I was waiting, I had several staff members check on me and see if I needed anything. I also overheard a couple convos going on near me and the staff seemed to be very accommodating to others.

After weeks of online browsing, countless “get pre-approved” applications, and some rather annoying car salesman phone calls from other car dealers, I decided to land at CarMax. I am so happy that I did! I looked through tons of vehicles that would fit my needs as a single mom and fell in love with one that was about 200 miles from me. Took the trip across state lines to CarMax, where I had already done the application online, was APPROVED, and had keys in my hand after trading in my older car in less than one hour! I came to CarMax for the 2nd time because my 1st experience was amazing! But I must say I’m VERY DISAPPOINTED this 2nd time. I’m now on my 3rd vehicle and it’s STILL not right! I’ve gotten the run around numerous times, I’ve had a Mgr work with me to get me in a another vehicle but now I’m having issues AGAIN with this vehicle and I haven’t had the car 3wks!!! Anybody can get a car from here it is just the service you receive after you get the car..... horrible the service center is the worst.....the advisors as they are called dont advise at all....they have never poor communication with their customers at else that is the way they treated us....we had a few things wrong with the vehicle we purchased....brought it back......the parts dates to arrive changed four times....they had the car for 5 days until they gave us a loaner car which we had to wait on but have hundreds of cars on their lot....they finally realized that one of the parts had to be programmed by the car maker itself.....the advisor didnt even know if the parts were coming from this state or other state....like I said you can get a car but watch the service after

After explaining to him I had an appointment I was soon on my way to my car purchase. Everyone I came in contact with was extremely professional. My sales associate, Ms. Cheryl, was every bit of AMAZING! I felt as if we have known each other for years. She kept me inform with the process and the next step within the process. Initiated a vehicle transfer in late January with CarMax Columbia for a vehicle located at the Dayton, OH store. After paying the $149 transfer fee got an email from CarMax confirming the transfer was in process. Heard nothing else for over a week. Called today and got a big shoulder shrug. Sales person said they would look into it and called back to say that the vehicle had some electrical issue and that they were refunding the transfer fee. What passes for customer service at this location is a joke. They don’t follow up on anything and they don’t keep customers informed. If we hadn’t called we might never have known. Nobody at CarMax could be bothered to take any kind of initiative to let us know there was problem, even though they knew about it a week ago. We will take our business to a dealer we can count on. There are plenty of others out there. Recommend avoiding this location.

I am extremely frustrated with carmax and am writing this from inside the store...where i am still waiting. I had an appointment for 1:00 and was not seen until after 2:00. After inquiring several times and almost walking out, TJ finally stepped up and helped us while other clients were on a test drive. He listened to my frustrations patiently, and when i asked if there was anything the store could do to restore my confidence in them, he checked with the manager who said the only thing was a voucher for dinner. I highly recommend buying a car elsewhere. Your time will not be valued. This is NOT how car buying should be.Still waiting...

Hurry up and wait. 2.5 hours and no service. I had a vehicle shipped here and was contacted to come in to review the car after paying the $100 shipping cost. After telling them I would be in at 4 pm, i spent hours of my time waiting in the lobby. When I walked in it took 10 minutes for someone to even talk to me.. All this only to find that the car was scratched all over and the door handle was broken. The car had touch up paint all over in a terrible attempt to hide the scratches even on the hood. This was all found after two supposed inspections. The first inspection was done before I paid for shipping to specifically find defects and issues.... I wasnt told about any of these issues on that day. I get wear and tear but this is beyond that.. I dont recommend this location. Hopefully this isnt a reflection on the whole franchise becauseif it was; you would have 0 business. You have got to do better! I am very unhappy. This place needs help. I came here 3 times and waited every day for over an hour to be seen.

I bought a car two months ago and it has had nothing but problems. Every time I bring the car in, Carmax tells me the problems do not exist and I resolve to recording the issues to present proof. They waste my time, do not call when the car is ready, and have left me waiting for hours with no ride or communication. I would not recommend this carmax to my worst enemy. When buying the car, they kept it in the lot for an entire month before I could get ahold of someone to get it to me, and this is after I had paid and had it transferred. They have not been accommodating in any way and they completely ripped me off. Do not buy a car from this Carmax

This is not a conventional car dealer, this is an internet car company warehouse. The overall car buying experience lacked service, fair pricing and money for the value. In our community we really do have a lot of other options to choose from including independently owned and operated car dealers that will treat you better than they treated me. The sticker shock alone was a lot to contend with.

I hate everything about the car buying process but CarMax changed my mind today!! My salesman David was really great!! He made sure to go over everything with me to make my buying experience the best I ever had. I was not pressured and being a female I feel that he gave me all the information I need. I will recommend CarMax to everyone I can. Customer service was also very helpful being that I spoke with them before I came to the dealership and changed my mind twice about the car I wanted. All in all I loved this experience!!

On May 19th I viewed a car online and paid the $199 fee for shipping. So far so good. I was told it could take up to two weeks for car to arrive. Well it got here within days.. so far so good. Now it’s June 2. No car they keep telling me it’s going thru inspections. Now I ride up to the place of business to discover the car is on the lot and the real reason is that they have misplaced the title. You would of thought someone would of called me the first week the car arrived and told me that there was an issue. They are now saying I can wait for them to do a sweep of the place to find the title or get my 199 back or wait for them to send for a duplicate title which could take another two weeks. Money back please. The management here is horrible..

The customer service at this location is an absolute joke! I took my car to get fix they looked at my car told me they would need to order the part no big deal. I got a text saying the part arrived and to call to scheduled an appointment. I schedule an appointment I drop off my car at 9am they told me it would only take 3 hours to fix and I will be receiving a call back. Its 3pm and I have yet to receive a call so I call about 7 times and got the same answer that someone will call me back. It is now 5pm I call and told the lady that I need to know whats up with my car because I have class at 6 she tells me someone will call me back and just hung up. Around 5:40ish this lady calls me and tells me the wrong part was order and I can come pick up my car. That information would have been helpful 4 hours ago. Today I received a text saying I had an appointment they literally booked me an appointment without even reaching out if I can make it or not I called to let them know that I couldnt because I had a 9am class had they call me to ask what days and time Im available they would have known. So in general this consumer service just suck. Simple as that dont bother because you wont get a call back or even an update on your car.Update- I decided to update my review to a four star because I ended up calling Customer service and one of the lady Katy she was amazing and she ended up calling CarMax and letting them know what was going on. I would say if your having issues just call customer service and they will try to resolve the issue right away

Only a short wait even though it appeared there were guys standing around. But we were there to see what we could get for a car we were trying to sell. Maybe the sales guys couldnt do an estimate. The guy that helped us was super nice and 3 or 4 people checked on us as we waited. An overall very positive experience!! Will definitely go when its time to buy!!!

Worst experience ever. We took care of all the details and financing before we had the vehicle transferred to the store. Once we test drove it their was an issue. We were insured that this will be taken care of, and was told to wait. We waited till 430 pm in the parking lot just to be told they had to order parts. ( Our appointment was at 11: 00 am, and all we had to do is test drive and sign our paperwork) to top this we had insurance on this vehicle the entire time. Moving forward we looked at other cars just in case. Three weeks went by with no answers or call backs. It seemed I was chasing them for there business. I finally got help from the sales supervisor. Once the vehicle was ready, we went back up there just to find out the offer we accepted could not be found, tried to give us a higher APR stating no one would finance us. I explained to the young lady everything, just to be told it was a pre-approval and not an actual approval. We know the difference. We accepted an offer at the time of the transfer and added our warranty package to the vehicle. This was a waste of my time and will never go back.

The most unprofessional business office ever. I will say the salesman I dealt with was decent. I decided to remove Maxcare as I was told there will be no problem doing so when I signed the contract. Given thought I called to remove the extended warranty (I only had the care 2weeks). I called five times!! I was either placed on hold or promised a called back. When I explained wanting to remove the warranty I was told I had to drive back to Columbia to have my odometer read and sign documents. I asked to send a picture of the odometer and handle the paperwork via fax or email. I was told I could and then told I could not! So you mean to tell me I have to drive across state for something that would take maybe 15min??? The staff was rude with no customer service AT ALL!!! I could tell that by the conversations they had while I did the paperwork! Let’s not mention I also paid to have the original car I wanted transferred and the car was “lost”. First I was told they didn’t have a title, then told the car was having cosmetic work done! It took me through hell and high water to even get the refund on the transfer! Think twice before dealing with the Columbia, SC location Especially the Business office!
