In addition to this comapnies known unethical business practices (scamming customers, paying less than minimum wage, ect) bookholders is also currently being sued by almost every major textbook publishing company. The companies suing them are multi-BILLION dollar companies who will easily win this case against this poor state of a business These companies include Pearson Education, Cengage Learning, Mcgraw Hill and a few more.If you ask me I wouldnt buy textbooks from a store every textbook company is suing...

I purchased a book with this company through Amazon. A few days after the order I received a phone call and an email indicating that the book I ordered has some underlining and highlighting. Not a big deal, I told them to ship it anyway. That was a couple of weeks ago, and since then Ive received 3 emails and 2 additional phone calls, all telling me about the highlighting and asking whether to ship the book. I dont know how many times I have to say it... This morning I got a phone call asking if I knew what had happened to my book... apparently it was shipped to someone else. They will try to find a replacement, but no one knows how long that will take. They have already taken money out of my account for this, so that sucks. Im avoiding this place in the future.

This is the first college bookstore that I’ve loved. Prices are reasonable and they’ve been doing free local delivery during the start of the semester due to covid.

Pros: some of the best prices on textbooks. Easy to return/sell books at pop-up locations.Cons: rude staff. local delivery is not same/next day as the website says, it takes about 4 or 5 days in my experience (I would recommend picking up books in store if you are able). If you sell books with the advantage method, it will take months to get your check. Even when your books have sold, it says check pending for a long time.

Terrible first experience. Purchased a book from BookHolders through the Half Price Books website. Received a hardcover with no dust jacket, even though the only image in the listing was of the dj and even though the listing (of a hardcover, not a paperback) never mentioned the absence of a dj. Also, they shipped the book literally in just a soft plastic sleeve. That bare-minimal packaging was also never mentioned in the listing. No padding, no bubble mailer--and no surprise, every corner of the book was significantly dinged, with edges knicked too. Then I had to pay the return shipping. Never buying from BookHolders again. Buyer beware.

I took two boxes of books to BookHolders. The College Park, MD location is a little difficult to find as they are in a small warehouse area. The staff is very courteous and helpful. They take all types of books, but used novels, unless they are currently very popular, arent worth much, so they didnt give me cash for this group of books, however they took all but 2 on a consignment basis, and the prices offered were much higher than in any other store where I have sold books. The 4 stars reflects only the no cash option and the difficulty finding the store. They created an online account for me that will let me know when the books are sold so I can receive my payment. The next time I sell books, this is where I will go. FYI, they also take CDs and DVDs.

Great deals on used textbooks, but always call and double check you are getting what you pay for. .. they gave me a custom version of a textbook that I couldnt user, and to be fair its only $1, and the I ended up getting was $7, I wish I didnt have to go back a second time. I also find it hard to sell text books that are more than a semester old

I ordered a book a month ago for one of my classes, and I got an email saying that my order was confirmed. A month later I never got the book or an email saying that it was shipped. I looked through my emails and an email under the name Analyst said that the billing address I gave BookHolders did not match the billing address connected to my credit card. I do not understand how that could be possible because it is the only address I have ever had and I have never had this problem before. I was not happy because they only sent me one email about this problem under the name Analyst which never occurred to me that it would be from BookHolders. I feel like this was a way for them to take my money and hope I would forget about the book. I am never ordering from this store again.

Literally the worst book selling experience I’ve ever had. I sold my books back in January and still have not received my check for the books. As some have mentioned, their new location is sketchy and not as nice as their previous location on Route 1. However, its still one of the best places to get your textbooks for a good price. Ive been getting my textbooks from them since I started at UMD and Ive found that their prices are usually better than Amazon or Chegg. I definitely recommend checking them out before renting from other places since Bookholders may have a better price. In addition, they have good customer service (all the people Ive ever encountered at the store were always nice and helpful) and they are also really fast at checking you out when you arrive (you just scan your receipt and theyll call you when your books are ready).

This bookstore has HORRIBLE service. I ordered a book a week before they were to go on spring-break. Apparently, NO ONE thought it was a good idea to inform me that they would be CLOSED the ENTIRE week of spring-break. I spoke with TWO people prior to their break and they ASSURED me my book would be delivered the next week (their spring break). Well since they were closed, that DIDNT happen. TWO weeks later I am STILL without a book. I called the store manager who sounded VERY nonchalant and did not offer a solution. INSTEAD he blamed the corporate office for not notifying me of their break. If you need a textbook AVOID them! They have very poor service and unprofessional workers.

I admit that I have utilized Bookholders in College Park Maryland from time to time since 2010 when the business was still on Baltimore Avenue. I have had multiple good experiences with this business/company and my most recent visits to the new Berwyn road location in College Park Maryland have also been pleasant. The customer rep who handled my books my most recent two times to the Berwyn location of Bookholders processed my order with a cheery mood. The only caveat I would advise about is to keep an open mind on either the book being a donation only or whatever price/money range that the books you give would be priced at (in the business computer) and be very patient on however long it may take for the money to come to you in a check if you do give books that are worth some money andor cash to the business. One of the other benefits is that a profile of you is kept on file with them and can be looked up with a phone number that you give them. There are also discounted books that they keep on shelves nearby in the instance that you may want to look around andor purchase any of the books. For those who take public transportation andor would walk to the location, an easy way to get to the new location of Bookholders is to turn and then walk straight along the street that is next to/ near the Napa Auto Parts building on 4703 Berwyn road. The end of the street/road is going to be near a train area not quite a metro stop/some type of stairway/walk up entrance area on one side and the other side is going to be some type of sardis catering vehicles and other type of vehicles near a building, you want to walk towards the area with the catering vehicles and one of the buildings nearby will also have a bookholders sign pointing the direction of the business.

Make sure you use this service if you want to get ripped off--once they post your books then they wait till Sat or Sunday night at 10pm to send out price change notices that take effect at midnight---then your book gets sold for 50cents. I dont know how this can be legal.

I bought Bates Visual Guide to Physical Assessment: Student Set on CD-ROM / Edition 4by Lynn S. Bickley from the seller via Barnes and Noble marketplace. Though shipping was relatively quick, 5 out of 19 CDs were damaged. Super frustrating, given the price of the items. Wished the seller was honest about the description of the items. Not cool at all!

Please dont support this business anymore! I used to love shopping at Bookholders because they have good prices, but I dont anymore because they got my order wrong and refused to do anything about it except offer me a refund, which they made clear to me was going out of their way. (I ordered a book with NO writing in it and they gave me one that had writing) Really?? I needed the book for my class and didnt have time to wait to get one on Amazon, so I asked that they let me exchange it with a copy that didnt have writing (they had like 3-4 other copies) but they refused. They were very rude and short with me and treated me like I was stupid, repeating over and over again that there was nothing they could do. So at the last minute they begrudgingly offered me a $5 off coupon for a purchase $50-$99 that expired in 5 days. Lol. After Id already gotten all my books for the semester. What an insult!
