Ponderosa Campground located in Cody Wyoming is absolutely wonderful! Owned and operated by Skip and assisted by her many fabulous family assistants her daughters (Robin and Linda), her son-in-law Greg and her Jack of all trades assistant (Greg) are so accommodating and helpful! The campground is so convenient because it’s in the center if Cody and in walking distance to downtown Cody! They keep extremely clean bathrooms and laundry room! The staff is constantly cleaning and maintaining the premises in the day and by night it is very quite…top notch camping at the Ponderosa! My husband and I and our 3 dogs took a cross country road trip to Cody from the mountains of North Carolina! We will definitely always be staying at the Ponderosa campground every year we come to visit the beautiful town of Cody! πŸ€—

Nice clean campground right in Cody. Near everything. You can get on the trolly your here and the bus to the rodeo. Walking distance to the Bill Cody museum. Check in was efficient. Back in site was $55 w/o discounts. Some sites look tight and close to neighbors, others better. Ours was 18/19, in the corner, just right. Bath house and a nice laundry also.

You dont come here for amenities you come here for service and hospitality! Tent sites are well... Blah. (Turn off the sign) but the people are truly the reason Im giving 5 stars. So welcoming and friendly! They have all the extras too like clean bathrooms and pool but I cant get over the great attitude. KOA Cody (3 star) could learn some good manners from these folks.

The campground was very convenient, and seemed clean. They only accept cash or check and no credit or debit cards, which is tough when you are travelling. The spaces were close together, but they offer the range of campsites that should cover everyones needs. When we called, we were told we did not need a reservation, just come. We did and found out that we could only stay 4 nights and not 5 as we wished and that we needed a reservation. So, the cash or check only and the reservation/no reservation issue we found irritating. The ladies in the office were kind, but unable to fully accommodate our needs. They are able to do this because they have a great location. Cost seemed high. I loved Cody and would come back, but not sure if we would stay here unless we got a firm reservation and brought enough cash!

Very convenient, quite clean, well-appointed, full-hookup RV and tent campground, right in the city of Cody. Walk to most attractions. Reasonably priced, though not cheap. RV lots a little tight. But the friendly (mostly) staff does very well. Barb is a doll. They got us accommodated on short notice for a week at their busiest time. Thank you, Ponderosa!

Highly disappointed! Camp ground was recommended, so I call ahead, visited with a gentleman who was very nice, had an agreement over the phone with him. When we pulled in later that day, I was met by 2 old women, one wearing a see through shirt with no bra, and they were not about to honor my phone agreement of the morning. Said he had no right to make an agreement with me over the phone like he did. And they were certainly not honoring his agreement.

The lady up front was SUPER nice. The restrooms / showers you front were very clean and nice. It was our first time staying some place with open tent camping (open area, pitch tent where ever you like within it), but it worked out just fine. They do have more secluded tent spaces in the back, but we opted up front for proximity to the amenities. Perfectly fine for us for an overnight.

We stayed here three days in October. The people are nice and friendly, but not great at solving problems or apologizing for issues. The park and facilities are nice and clean. The promised internet was terrible fading in and mostly out. The water was shut off because of weather (understandable), but no apology or offer to reduce the rate. Yes, this is cash or check only.

Cash only or checks. Unable to book on line. We called and made a reservation for a pull through spot a week ago. When we got here we were only able to get a back in. We had no recourse as it was a telephone conversation with no record to reference such as an email or text. Very disgruntling after a long day of travel to get here.Beware, if you arent here by 3:00 and havent called they will give your spot away. (We arrived at 1:45)

Very nice clean park excellent location in Cody. Close to Is most everything the museum, Old Town, rodeo grounds, The park is a little tight but if you have an RV and you know how to back it you should not have a problem. My opinion is the staff was very friendly and helpful. Recommendation is make sure you call and let them know youre coming they do not take deposits for Reservations. they its they make it very clear on the phone that if youre not there by 3:00 p.m. its possible you can lose your spot so call them and let them know youre coming and youll be just fine. They only take personal check or cash so make sure you bring your personal check or cash with you theyre ATM machine only let you get $200 out at a time. But I highly recommend this park I would definitely stay there again in a heartbeat. also when youre looking at campgrounds and making reservations dont always take all reviews too heart, as most people only post the negative, we almost didnt stay at this park because of reviews, but so happy we did and thats why Im making a Good review for this place please check them out and stay there.

Not happy at all. We reserved 6 spots in March, 4 pull throughs and 2 back ins right across from them in the nicer newer area. Today we were given tight back ins in the old area facing the restrooms by the highway and not together. VERY DISAPPOINTING! The nice lady said this is all they have available. We called several times to confirm this Spring and Summer. All was well on the phone. Now this happens. So it is a take it or leave it attitude. Needless to say we won’t be back!

This campground harasses its guests who bring their own tent to camp on the lawn, by telling them to move their tent so it doesnt kill all the grass underneath, however, Ponderosa chooses not move its own giant tomb-like tip tents, which has killed all the grass underneath them. Warning! The website is missing information. We went by online for information. If you see a price that you think your going to pay, nope! Youll be paying more at check in. Unless you ask your total price, and good luck they are shady, they probably wont tell you. We paid over $100 more than what the website said. None of this is explained during phone call when making reservations. Or the fact that there is extra parking for your vehicle. We were right across from it and were never told we could use this, even after they knew we werent happy and talked to them twice about this. They put your name down on reservation call and they didnt have us down or find it when I called told then we were on our way. Which told me they were scrambling to find us a site. They still wouldnt honor any of this for us. The sites are too small and crowded. Dont be surprised! Business should always honor if they want people to come back. It should say what they charge on the website. Atleast be honest and admit mistakes. We shouldve been compensated something for this. Ofcourse not!Wouldnt of stayed here if I knew this!Greedy business. A review will be submitted to Good Sams as well! Thanks for not taking accountability for this Ponderosa Campground!! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS JOKE OF A CAMPGROUND! This is the ONLY campground I have ever stayed at in all my years of camping that wants you to call to confirm you are still coming even though you made a reservation 6 months in advance. They won’t take a credit card, so when they up and give away your two sites you booked for 5 nights, they have no proof you made the reservation! We were 1700 miles away from home and they left us stranded. But then magically move heaven and earth and find two sites and expect us to be grateful for it. How about you don’t give away my sites!!! Turns out they do this ALL THE TIME! We spoke to at least 3 other campers who also had their sites given away. Terrible service and attitude. We will never go back, there are plenty of other places in the area to stay. Many of them were so helpful when I was frantically looking for sites. If they didn’t have one they would refer me to another place where they knew the owners. Absabsaroka, KOA, Oasis, Sunshine, Meeteetse, bffrvresort, - look these up and give them your business.

Su
Review β„–58

Beware! A reservation is not really a reservation. They will not take a credit card to hold. Your site can be rented to someone else by 1 pm if you don’t call that day to confirm and phones do not work in the mountains. Even if you are able to arrive before 1 pm or call the type of site and price is not guaranteed. We reserved a site for a travel trailer pulled by a Suburban 4 months prior to our 5 night stay. We called and was able to get in 1 day early due to our travel time and told them we would move to another site if necessary the next day. They charged us the full 5 days plus the extra day we added (cash only). We were put in a site large enough for the travel trailer with parking for the vehicle next to it. As soon as we were set up and pulled our vehicle’s front 2 wheels on a bare spot of the site where therewas no grass an employee pulled up and told us we would have to park up by the office two streets away. We were charged more for this small lot than the larger lots in the back that were quoted when made the reservation. But no confirmation was sent, just conversation. The 4 th day of our stay we asked for a refund for the sixth day after being told by another camper they were not able to stay that day because they were full. We wanted to stay the 5 days of our stay but they would not refund our cash for the sixth day so the other camper could stay. They advertised cable TV but it would not come in after purchase a cable and connecting. Went to the office but no one there knew anything about it. Wi-fi signal no good, but could be expected in the mountains.I would recommend reserving a campsite at a location where you can make a reservation for the size of site you want and guarantee a price.

Stayed at Ponderosa campground in July 2020 for 4 days. The rate was reasonable compared to hotels in the area. The sites are close together with about 12 between units. We had a pull-through for our 32 5th wheel with 3 slides, so getting in and out was not a problem. No campfires are allowed at this campground apparently due to Cody ordinances, not even self-contained propane firepits. The restrooms were clean but the toilet stalls were very cramped. We used our RV shower although the bathhouse showers were clean, but they were very dated. Our only interaction with the staff was during check-in but the lady was very courteous and willing to provide information and brochures about attractions in Cody.Realistically, Cody is an hour and 45 minutes from any actual attractions in Yellowstone. The drive in from the east entrance to the shoreline of Yellowstone Lake is past mostly dead standing conifers. In the past weve stayed in West Yellowstone which is much more convenient. But Cody has more to offer with the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and the Cody rodeos. Plus the drive from Cody to the Northeast entrance of Yellowstone is magnificent.

We were just two little ladies on a road trip when we got stuck in Yellowstone behind a giant herd of bison for two hours. This really put a damper on our initial plans and had us searching for a camp ground well after sunset. We finally found service just outside of Cody, WY and came across Ponderosa Camp Grounds. It was well after the office had closed, but we were still able to find a spot to set up our tent for the night down by the river. The camp grounds are very well maintained, the bathrooms were very clean and well maintained as well. There are two tent sites that we saw, one is by the teepees near the road and the second is in a very quiet, secluded area by the river. The upper site is great if you want easy access to the bathrooms and showers, as well as easy walking distance to the town square area where all the action is. The lower river camp site is amazing if you want a more secluded, serene camping experience. There were only two other campers there and we loved falling asleep to sound of the river. There were also two very clean port-a-potties available. They have a great little store with all the necessities and some souvenirs. It appeared they had an indoor dinning area/hangout spot as well in addition to offering bus rides to the rodeo nightly for $5. The grounds are an easy walk into town, as mentioned before, it’s really a great spot to enjoy and experience Cody.We went in the morning to pay for our spot and they were so kind and friendly. They asked how they could assist us on our journey as we continued on and gave us some great recommendations, as well as directions. grateful we found this fantastic spot to camp!

Tent camping at this place is not very restful. The lower more secluded tent sites were closed, and not sure why they think tents right on the main road through town would be a good idea, but noise most of the night from cars/trucks (quiet from 1am-3am). And for $40+tax per night (family of four) for a patch of grass, seems a little steep. They do have clean showers and a laundry room.Update: told staff about being told a week prior of quiet site down by the river, and the noise up by the road (told at check in that road is quiet at night), all he said was β€œand your point is?”Ok, so customer service is lacking as well.

Not sure where all the excellent reviews come from. The staff is nice, but you could reach out and touch the rv in the next site. The sites are really tight. Though they allow pets, you have to walk your dogs along highway 14, an extremely busy road. 30 to 45 minutes closer to Yellowstone are some gorgeous state forest camp grounds. So if you need full hook ups, cram in with the other campers at Ponderosa. If not, go relax down the road.
