They carry several of the authors that I love! Prices have increased so thats why only 4 out of 5 stars. Im glad theyre still doing business so Ill pay the extra.

I have always loved half price books. I showed up today at 5:00 p.m. to sell some of my books and buy some new ones. I drove all the way from the East side and found out that they only buy from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the note on the door. When I checked the website it said they were buying from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. I just wish the hours on the door match the website so I didnt have to drive all the way from the east side or I could have come earlier.

I like the franchise, books are well kept and organized at good prices with friendly staff. Both new and quite dated books with a wide variety of customers. I will say that this is a bit smaller size than the one I am used to in the Cedar Rapids area but still a nice spot.

I bought some books there that were super expensive if purchased new! This place is one of my favorites. Also as I was on the business section and then the self help books section I met two cool people who I had lots in common. Is a bit unusual for me meeting people like that but was definitely nice to experience.

I love this place. I feel like I always find hidden treasure when I go there. I almost never leave without finding at least two books to come home with me.

Dont expect to get much for your books, but have to say the staff are very professional and this place is really well run. You can expect to get maybe $10-12 for an entire large bin of 50 books including really nice hardcover books that are fairly new. I get that they have to make money too and appreciate the clean, well-organized store and nice staff.

I often stop by and check their wide selection of books, vinal albums and CDs. Ive sold books and CDs, which is a nice option. Clean and handicap friendly.

Love this place. They dont always have what Im looking for and some books can be hard to find if you dont know what youre doing, but the employees are always friendly and willing to help. The prices are great, sometimes they have great treasures on clearance. They are taking really great measures for Covid as well, by limiting amount of people per aisle/alcove and having one direction aisles. They also have an employee at the front directing customers and sellers.They also buy books, movies, and games. Ive heard people complain about the prices theyll give you for your books, but I think theyre fair. You have to consider the quality of your items and that they will be reselling them as well. I think this is a great deal too, plus they give you cash for your items, or you can take it off your purchases.I always try to stop in when Im in Des Moines to treat myself.

They were very quick to get our used books priced. We thought the amount they gave us was pretty low. Expected more. The prices in the store when we were browsing we great. Will definitely stop back. Staff was also friendly.

This is a store where the perfume of old books and tall shelves make you want to get lost for a while perusing. Staff is very helpful.

Theyre taking the pandemic seriously & I appreciate it. Masks are required, theres a 30 minute shopping limit, one-way arrows are taped on the floor, 1-person limit in each alcove, and social distancing is encouraged. The cashiers sanitize after each sale. Currently, theyre only buying 50 items at a time if youre selling. With all of these precautions in place, I felt very safe shopping there.

Amazing as usual. I love going there. They also manage the amount of people in the building and alcoves extremely well.

There was less selection than the last time I went, but I guess that makes sense due to Covid. They also removed all of the chairs, again due to Covid. I took my 91 year old grandma who has limited mobility, and there was nowhere for her to sit, so we had to cut the visit short. It would be nice if they had something for people who cant stand for very long.

Never disappoints! Able to pick up 6 kids books, several vintage books, and some sci fi for $25.They carry a fantastic collection of reading material. Plus they have gifts, DVDs, CDs, albums, and more.Super clean store and always plenty of staff on hand to help.

We went in and we were asked about putting a mask on...which is OK, but then she said in a rude way that the mask will have to be over your nose. That was just too much! It will be a while before we go back if ever, in fact we will tell our friends to not go there.👎

Great selection. Staff and patrons seem to look down their nose. Dont bring kids, though they have a great selection of kids books.

Good collection of books for kids at great prices

Fast service they pay very little for good popular books.

In the past, Ive shopped often for books at your location. Unfortunately, with your mask mandate, I will not shop at your store. Before my grandaughter was born two weeks ago, I purchased 53 board books so I can read and snuggle with her in the years to come. None were purchased from your store. Fortunately, I have found other book stores who want my business and dont require masks (many are even cheaper too).

It’s really hard to find books here-everything is packed together. And not to be nit picky, but the staff isn’t very friendly or helpful. I’ll still shop here for a good deal though!

Service could be better when asking questions or help finding particular books. I dont want to know a general area, I want to know the location of the book.

You can either walk in and waste an hour without finding anything to purchase, or load up on books and other goodies, there doesnt seem to be an in between, at least not for me personally. But the prices cant be beat for the great condition all the books are in.

They provide a valuable service. You dont get much money back for items, but nice to know they are being recycled. Courteous staff.

Dont waste your time with this place. Took a bag of DVDs which included box sets of The walking dead, lord of the rings, Hobbit etc. All in like new condition...waited 20 minutes for them to offer me $9 for $500 worth of DVDS. Took them to Jays CD and Hobby and they made me a great deal. Sorry, but wont be going back to this store again to sell anything.

This is the only Bookstore I care to visit most as it offers bibliophiles like myself tons of options to explore. The crew at this Half Price is very helpful and above all they are friendly and approachable, even when they are seemingly busy they stop what they are doing and offer help in searching for whatever it is you are looking for. You ask for a title and theyll seek it and help you find it. If its not in the store theyll deliver it to your home. Thank you guys for being awesome all these years!

If you want a good deal on books, this is the place. Its that simple. Its not Barnes & Noble, but just plain book store with a good selection, and good prices. Bless em, as book stores have a tough go these days.

My entire family loves Half Price Books. My 11 year old says she would rank it 6 stars if she could. From metaphysical to self-help, there is something for everyone. They have a great selection of nonfiction novels as well. They also sell puzzles, journals, and collectable compilations.

Its my preffered book store, honestly.However, while this is not again them, I have a problem here. Emphasis on the I. I am constantly downsizing the amount of things I have and a not inconsiderable amount of book runs for cash has been made here.It doesnt matter if they give me fifteen bucks for a box, or two hundred. I will always go over to the cookbook section and walk out with two or three books over the cash over.Do you think they have a rehab for white women who impulse buy cookbooks?

This is a good place to go for books, games, and music as I’ve got many things from this place. Friendly staff, but the gaming selection does not change very fast. The music section does change a lot. Quite a few new books when we go in every time. Recommend to any reader, musical persons, or gamer.

We had a lot of books just collecting dust and actually got a decent amount of money for them. I was surprised how much we ended up getting. Will be taking other books/textbooks I no longer use here again when I get the time to sort them. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to get a little money from their books they have already read and dont need anymore.

If you want to buy from a local store then this is the one I check first. I have no qualms about buying a used book so this place works great. I get the book i want for much cheaper than had I bought it new. Sure to the nature of the reseller if there is a particular book then I suggest you call ahead to check its availability.

The selection for Urban African American books is very little. They do have some good choices to pick from. They can help you and have it ordered if it is not there. Love this place.

We took 30 books on tape that I purchased there, and 16 books purchased there, and got $8:00, I understand they have to make money, but that was plain robbery, when I questioned her she said you dont have to take it. We will never step foot in that store again. And I will tell every one I know about them.

Good selection of books, movies, video games. However I really only go during their coupon promo week. Prices can be a little too high for used goods without a coupon.
