The store has everything you could ever possibly need!! Im am amazed how much he can fit into that small store and its well organized and he knows exactly where everything is. I go here all the time and I cant think of a single time Ive gone in there and not been able to get what I need.Great selection, great service, fair prices. Highly recommend.

Buy your Scotts Step 1,2,3 and 4 this Spring and dont forget some spray on Weed Be Gone ! Hope they still sell firearms and knifes like back in the day. I miss living nearby this store. No matter what project your working on chances are Salem Hardware will have what you need.Have been in a couple of times when someone came in looking for a specific item such as a brand specific hinge for a fence that they didnt carry and the owner Steve didnt hesitate to help them find a local business who would have it.

True there is some political material around as others have stated but the owner is very helpful. I just visited again where he took time to explain what I needed to do in a project. When I realized I didnt have cash he let me take the material home and told me I could pay later. Very positive experience start to finish.

I had a great experience. This place is a jewel in the Anderson area. I was in a bind and thought I would drop in and see if they could help me find a certain kind of nut and bolt. Steve was super knowledgeable and probably saved me a ton of time trying to find what I needed. I recommend this hardware store to anyone who wants in depth knowledge and great customer service. This is a great hardware store. I walked in for the first time today looking for a specific plumbing/appliance item. After having no luck at either Home Depot and a local plumbing supply store, I decided to try here. I am very glad I did. The man running the store was so helpful, and he put together something that ended up being perfect. I returned a few hours later for an additional project, and he was just as helpful the second time. I will keep going back. The store has just about anything a homeowner could need, and the man working today had a wealth of knowledge (something large home improvement chains, like Home Depot/Lowes/etc, lack).

This store is great. Its old-school. Its local. Its a neighborhood fixture. Its got hard to find stuff in it. The owner is a good guy as most of the local residents will attest. He has answers, opinions and likes guns. No problem. I have never experienced anything but courteous behavior and satisfied customers while in his business. Thanks for keeping it local.

This is the type store that our grandparents were used to. When you walk in the door there’s someone there to point you in the right direction. I have known the owner since we were kids, he has done what thousands have failed to do in keeping a small business going in the age of big box stores. Very expensive compared to a big box but they have lots of oddball hardware. If I recall correctly his rotary cultivator was around $42 and a very similar cultivator was roughly $27 at Home depot

Do not come expecting friendly service. Good selection of stuff, amazingly well-packed space, higher than big box prices but super convenient. Every time Ive said never again over some petty argument with the owner Ive been back as it really is a great hardware store.

The store stocks many of those odds and ends you cant find at the big box store. Socket head cap screws in all sizes, switches and lamp cords, bronze bushings, even fahnstock clips.... If you know hardware you will love this place!

The owner was less than friendly. The sticker said the fuses i bought were 3.99. He gave me a total of 7.47 i showed him the sticker on the box and he said he couldnt sell them for that. I will never go back to this hardware store again.

Walking in, I couldnt figure out whether this was a hardware store or a right wing pleasure palace. They seemed to have hardware items, so I continued in. Before I even began looking for what I came for, I saw the owner (at least, who I assume to have been the owner) guffaw out loud over a naive question from a customer. The customer meant no harm, but was treated as if they completely interrupted the owner. I like to use local stores, but I wont use this one. Youll be treated much better at Lowes or Home Depot.

Friendly and much more helpful than the big box stores, they were able to answer all of my questions. I go here for all of my hardware needs. Buy local!Dont believe the 1 star reviews since the middle of 2016. The owner put up several Trump campaign signs and this is just the usual liberal nonsense of trying to silence opinions they dont agree with. Best hardware store around! Sure, politics come into play sometimes but you have to have a sense of humor! Its his business and he can run it how he pleases! If you arent a snowflake, this is the place to shop! The owner is very knowledgeable when it comes to every item he sells and projects you are working on. If you get offended by the political commentary then I recommend purchasing a hand warmer to use on your butthurt bottom. They are usually located on the front counter or to the left next to the cleaning supplies.

I always want to support local neighborhood business especially one that is as well stocked as this one is. BUT the owner of this store can be very rude most of the time I have gone in there. The last time I was there WILL be my last time. The owner was too busy changing light bulbs to help me make a purchase. Instead he stayed on the ladder and made condescending instructions to me on buying 60 ft. of tubing. I finally walked out. My wife has had the same experience with the owner. The hired help are fine but I will not be treated like that again. So I guess it is back to Home Depot.

DO NOT shop here. The owner is an angry, antagonistic lunatic. Tried to return a $14.00 product a month after purchase with original receipt - he threw it back over the counter at me and told me to take my business elsewhere as he didnt take returns after 15 days. He then added a couple of insults as I walked out the door with my young daughter. Real classy. So much for supporting local businesses - go to Lowes or Home Depot, dont make my mistake.

Owner would not leave the counter to help me because my order was too small. In addition I was very patient while he finished a personal conversation with the person in line in front of me, so if I was in his spot I would have gone out of my way to assist a customer that had waited. Instead he basically told me he was too lazy to help me with what I needed because it was less than $1.I am an independent contractor and spend thousands in the area on materials, his loss.

I couldnt bring myself to squeeze 3 stars out of this store. Very, very overpriced but for the cost of gas to go to Lowes or Home Depot, you are going to pay for convenience, a lot more. Some minor organization but ZERO help finding anything and no directive signs! Place smelled like a liter box? The cashier was flat out rude and un-knowledgeable. It had a little of everything but that is to be expected in a dying breed, the small neighborhood hardware store. Had they had some level of service, a non-hostile cashier or at least reasonable price minus the cat smell I could have eakd out a 3rd star, not to be. Spend the gas, go to a big store and enjoy the experience, this is a stop of last choice.

Went in to buy an extension cord and had a 20% off coupon from recently purchasing a house. He treated me like a con artist as if I had made a fake coupon. This guy has issues. I hope his business fails. I will never step foot in that shop ever again. Been in there a couple other times and the guy is just always in a bad mood.

Would love to shop small business (and usually do) but cannot justify shopping here. The owner, Steve, is very angry and rude. If you dont believe me, I challenge you to find any other small business with as many negative reviews (on various sites) as Salem Hardware has. Or, simply go buy something and make the mistake of asking a question - youll never go back. Its a shame, would be a cool store if not for the owner.*** look no further than at his own response! Emotional, child? Im just a customer that does not want to spend my hard-earned money to be treated like sh**. So yes, Ill burden any other business with my money. How are you in business again?

Honestly, I cant believe how mean someone can be and still be in business. Im a single mother, dont know much about taking care of the house, and went in with what I thought were some simple questions. The guy working there sneered at me and laughed at my question. It scared me and my children, and I left crying. I live around the corner, and Im almost frightened to walk by.

Not worth your time. Rude owner, sloppy store, over-priced items. I personally witnessed the owner get angry with a woman who he felt took too long finding her credit card in her purse. I can deal with the in-your-face pro-gun messages all over the store and the polarizing political signs he puts on Salem Ave, but to be outright mean to customers is ridiculous.

First time going to this place, last time I will ever go back. I didnt even make it in the door because they were still closed at 10:51 when there hours were 10:00 am. I asked the lawnmower repair guy what time they open and he said when he gets here not a minute before. Overpriced garbage.
