My wife and I had a great time on the Koval distillery tour. Our tour guide, Emily, was enthusiastic, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Her explanations were very clear and she made the atmosphere of the tour informative and fun. The tour was held in the big distillery room, which has a very large, garage-door-style, delivery entrance door that was open. The tasting tables were also spread out. After the tour, we stopped into the new tasting room, which is really nice, but we didnt stay long since wed already tried 4 or 5 whiskies! It was a very enjoyable kickoff to a special occasion Saturday for us.

Being a bourbon man, I thought this place had an interesting approach to whiskey. Gave it a try and must say the millet and the oat were pretty good. Only gave 4 stars because no tasting available. A distillery without a tasting is just a liquor store imo, but nice place nonetheless. Friendly staff, would visit again if Im close..

We had a fantastic time here today! The tour is less of a tour and more like a lesson - very educational. You do get a lot of tastings though! Loved their spirits and ended up taking home quite a bit to restock our bar.If you have friends visiting who love gin, whiskey, or any sort of spirits - or if you yourself are a fan - definitely check this place out. For $10, the tour is WELL worth it.

We went there for the tour and taste. First thing you notice is the style, really cool!. The labels of the bottles are great, with a clean and minimalist. Had a good first impression.The guy which was the only person there, was nice at every moment, he gave us our gift shooter glass and we waited. The tour itself is not a tour, is more like a fun class where he teach you about history and how they do their products. We tried around nine different stuff. The ginger one is really good!. The price, I wont say theyre pricey but they are not cheap either. Good quality product though.The bad thing is, there was no enough room for everyone, they should keep the number of people accepted for the tour to at least half of what they accept now.It was a good and fun experience. I will definitely try the coffee liquor in the future.

We visited for a cocktail class. It’s good that they do more than just tasting and we had a good time. The main thing I’d say critically is that you are sat at a table of about 5 people and one person makes each drink. So, the rest really spend a lot of time sitting there. It’s a lot of time waiting to make one drink and taste small samples of a few others.

From what Ive had of the oat, its safe to assume its all good.

Koval never disappointments. From the pre Covid days of tours to their online classes and sales, they are fun and knowledgeable. Of course the products all are delicious. Favorites include the Millet, Pink Corn, and Cranberry Gin. This Thanksgiving was extra special with the Sidecar made with Cranberry Gin, Ginger Liquor and lemon juice! Thank you for the fun and wonderful products!

Went to Koval for their new cocktail class. It was so great! We had an awesome time with Emily! They brought in a rep from Pastoral to pair cheeses with all of the drinks we made and, of course, we got a discount on everything we purchased that night! Well be back for sure!

Took the tour and was impressed by the enthusiasm, humor, and knowledge of our guide Emily. Great sense of pace and engagement and loved the authentic explanations and dive into the nature of whisky, bourbon, and gin.Great tastings and finally got to identify the whiskey that got me into actually drinking the stuff (Millet) accurately described as the gateway whiskey (super clean, low burn, but tasty)Introduced to a wider range of products than I was aware Koval made, particularly the peach and plum brandies, the chrysanthemum and honey, ginger, and caraway liqueurs, and the incredibly delicious maple syrup that Im excited to use in an Old Fashioned.Looking forward to the new location opening this Spring!

Overall: A humble and informative tour experience, great for any Koval fan.The good: The staff for the tour is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, it was one of the more informative tours that Ive been on lately. They offer 11 samples of a variety of different whiskeys, ryes, gins, and liqueurs. The coffee one was so good, we walked away with a bottle. The entire experience was humble and overall a good time.The not-so-good: Some of the tastings were offputting. Not terrible by any means, but between the 11 of them there were some misses. The lack of seating throughout the hour was also not ideal, and the area as a whole could use some fun to it.Atmosphere: 8/10Service: 8.5/10Drinks: 7/10

We came in for a tasting with a pretty mixed group of whiskey, gin, and vodka drinkers, and we were all impressed. The liqueurs were also very tasty but unfortunately the one we wanted sold out. I was lucky enough to leave with a bottle of the special edition blended whiskey that I took back to Washinton with me.

Emily was a delightful, bubbly and informative host. She welcomed our large group with open arms and made sure to wait til our whole party had arrived. Her your was engaging and informative. The time flew by quickly. Definitely would return. Cannot wait for their new space!

After reading a review of this place a year ago in the WSJ, I promised myself that the next trip to Chicago HAD to include a visit here. Not much of a bourbon drinker, but with several friends that consider themselves quite the expert, I figured it would make great Christmas presents at least and at best a nice way to spend an afternoon. Well, it was a great way to spend the afternoon and as for the Christmas presents...sorry Mike, sorry Chuck...I will share but am keeping the bottles we bought, the millet-based bourbon, the cranberry-flavored gin and the ginger liqueur that seems to make everything taste great.Summer, the hostess guided us through the many tastes, was pleasant and helpful throughout the process and patient with our many questions. Thanks for making a great weekend even better. Well worth the trek from downtown.

Liquor was good, and received 4 tasting for the tour. Nothing is made on site, very dull and boring. Nevertheless I did like the ginger liqueur and ended up buying a bottle

A cozy little still. Great whiskeys/bourbons! Try the single barrel bourbon(half corn, half millet mash), or go straight for the all millet whiskey! Smooth, peppery, refreshing flavor!! Tried the the all oat too. Definitely more subtle than millet types...

Cool distillery with a nice, informative tour. I brought home their four grain whiskey which I thoroughly enjoyed. Also of note is the cranberry gin. Very thick cranberry flavor. Im not a huge gin drinker but I drink it on the rocks.

Just took the summer loving cocktail class hosted by Phil & Emily and it was amazing. Emily knew everything about the products, you would think she’s worked there for 10 years. All of the cocktails were delicious. Highly recommend to everyone. Can’t wait for the fall class!

Our tour guide did an exceptional job explaining the process for crafting all of their liquors and liqueurs. I dont remember her name, but I think she is their marketing director. Their liquors are all kosher and organic and sourced from local farmers within 150 mile radius of Chicago. It was great that you could sample all of their products. I especially liked their millet whiskey and rye vodka. My wife and I also really liked their ginger liqueur.

Did a triple date and went on the distillery tour! It was a really good time and you get a pretty healthy share of samples, drink recommendations, and history! Our guide (I forgot his name) was fantastic and very personable. We’ll definitely be back for a cocktail class.

Their rye based whiskey is awesome, along with that other products they manufacture are worth a try! Do take the tour of the plant and taste their gin, brandy and liqueur products, it is worth it. Our tour guide was Emily and she was awesome, answered everybody’s questions and kept the grouped involved and entertained.Don’t miss their coffee based liqueur.

Excellent experience! Our group really enjoyed the tasting and all bought several different bottles. Millet was definitely the favorite of the group. I was pleasantly surprised by the barreled gin! Hoping to find a retailer nearby, so I can keep my liquor cabinet stocked with Koval spirits!

I enjoyed hearing about Koval and their distilling process. I expected the distillery be an actual distillery. Unfortunately, it was just a man telling us about the distillery which is down the street.

The tour is interesting, quick and a chance to taste some fine, single barrel, organic, hand crafted whiskey. Hold your wallet close as you will be making liquor-infused decisions and buy too much in the cleverly located, gift area on the way out. When you get home, you wonder...Why did I buy all this? Especially fun if you like whiskey or want to try liking it.

Had a great time taking the distillery tour, which gave a story of the distillery. Enjoyed so many tastes and felt like I learned something about whiskey while enjoying the whit of the tour guide. After the tour, got to explore the variety of unique flavors they produce. You can then get a discount on all products following! A great stop in the Ravenswood booze scene!

I visited Koval Distillery over the weekend because I was gifted a tour package for Christmas. What an awesome gift and experience. Let me start by saying that this tour felt more of a presentation because the space was small with the actual production moved to a larger facility a few blocks down the street. The original space felt like a display, but it was still interesting because it kept a lot the original stills and ageing barrels. On top of that, our host was very personable because of his knowledge and passion for the products and the company. We learned a lot about the distilling process as well as the different types of alcohol being made. We got a generous tasting of gins, whiskies and liqueurs that was included in the package. I ended up buying a tasty bottle of cranberry gin on the way out. Overall it was a great way to spend an hour and I do hope they begin tours of their new facility in the near future. Always drink local!

We had the most amazing tour guide. The drinks were amazing but even more so, the atmosphere was supreme. Even got a 15% discount on merch! Highly recommended.

Wonderful place. We got a small tour of the shop, and some history of the owners. The woman who showed us around was super friendly and told us alot of interresting facts about the distillery. If you are in the neighborhood pay them a visit, it made our day for sure!

The tour was only $10 and you got to try 10 of their products and any else afterward. It was very informative and everyone was very nice. I would definitely recommend the tour and the drinks are award winning. I personally loved the liquors.

Awesome place the guy at the front offered a tasting so I made a big purchase. I didnt have time otherwise I would have stayed didnt know they made liqueur! And all organic! I will definitely be back with friends!

Come and taste some of the products. Also has a cute gift shop. It’s not cheap but always nice to take out of town guests or to get nice gifts.

Came here for my bachelor party and had a wonderful experience! The class/tour lasted a little less than an hour, but our guide, Annie, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and inviting. Not only would I happily return, but recently found out that a selection of their products can be purchased in my hometown as well, so I will certainly be purchasing some soon.My personal favorites were the gin (and I usually dont like gin!), bourbon, and toasted rye. Annie did an excellent job explaining the different processes of production and differences between types of liquor and liqueur. The tour made a great start to a great bachelor party, but dont expect to get too drunk off of the samples :)Due to their friendly staff and wonderful product, KOVAL has gained a customer for life.

Enjoy cocktail class

Ive been here a couple of times, just to the shop. Both times the clerks have been really friendly and generous with tastes and/or discounts. I love that I have a local distillery and that their whiskeys are so creative, including less common grains like millet, spelt, and oats.

Went on the tour tonight, small tastings of 2 white whiskeys, a pear brandy, 3 aged whiskeys and 3 liqueurs. Koval makes a very nice product but the tour is your basic distillery tour the production facility is small and theres only so much excitement you can get from looking at a still and a few barrels. Tour guide was well informed and engaged would have prefered to do more of a tasting though - they offer a wide product line of whiskies and of the aged product our sample size was a little narrow.

The tour was a ton of fun and their products are delicious- very fun and interactive staff! I wish I could give them 6 stars!

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Loved my time there.

We came here just to shop and have a look around the place. The guy at the counter who gave us samples knew his spirits, especially the whiskies. He would tell us tasting notes, specifics about the mash bill, and where the grains come from. You could tell this guy likes his job and he made us love Koval even more. We have had their Four Grain Whiskey, and it was, without a doubt, my favorite of the last two years. Today we tried the bourbon, which has a mash bill of 51% corn (making this a true bourbon whiskey) and 49% millet (making this a very bizarre mash bill). Im glad they go with the bizarre sounding mash bill, because that bourbon was the most unique Ive ever had. My wife wholeheartedly agrees as well.By way of recap, what excellent service and knowledge the guy working there had! But in addition to that, what incredible whiskies! We will definitely return for a tour soon. Thanks so much for making incredible spirits, Koval...and for having such an awesome employee. Oh and by the way, it was whoever was handling the store around 3:00 pm on March 6, 2018...that guy was our hero!

You think you go on a tour, you dont! The talk is nice and the whiskey is ok. Its a sales pitch and not a tour of the distillery. Bit disappointed in the end.

Excellent. We went for the tasting tour which was very varied and informative. And they have a fascinating range of products which they do very well. Parking is better than expected.

It was great to hear the history of the distillery, a description of their distilling process ... oh, yeah, and sampling some spirits all in the building where they started.

Great distillery, very friendly staff. Their cordials are very good, though pricey. Some other distilleries in the area have mentioned that Koval takes some short cuts on their product, but their Bourbon was pretty great. I would highly recommend a tour.

Very homey room where they explain the history of the founding family and the distilling process. The tour guide has a pleasant way of explaining everything and gladly accepts questions from the group.You wont get drunk..but you will taste quite a few different whiskeys and you can purchase them onsite..very enjoyable hour on a sunday afternoon..highly recommend this to everyone..

The tour was absolutely fantastic! The guide was very knowledgeable and made the experience a real pleasure. I learned some new things about how spirits are made, and the samples made me reconsider what I thought I knew about them, especially the gin.

A bad tasting. The host took the time to run out and tell us we were over served. I get it but this was too much for us. And things could have been explained more politely. Also, she told us she would call the police on us. You do not tell an African American couple this at this date and time. Please get better staff!! If not I will speak to your manager!

Went for the Wednesday Night tour and left with a bottle! But the tour was interesting and informative while still showcasing the basics of what they do in the city. Small businesses continue to provide variety in our world and this place is no exception

I went here for a learn to make old timey drinks class” it was a blast. The lady that thought the class was energetic and fun which made the night a great time. It is also really fun. To hear the KOVAL story and see how things are made. Everyone is super friendly and I would suggest stopling in if you have e the chance.

Great product which you know is crafted with care. It is even better that everything is organic, made by a hard working team, and Koval was started and is still run by a Chicago family.
