Their sandwiches are fantastic as everyone says, but the REAL gem is that this might be the only place in the city where you can find difficult-to-source Italian deli items such as guanciale.

Found this place after coming across their Nduja... A quaint storefront with a homey, feel-good atmosphere. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable about their assortment of meats and cheeses, and always willing to help.Aside for their unique cheese and meat selection, they also have some of the most amazing sandwiches. My family went here during the winter and the sandwiches we had were so good that I had to come back the very next day with my girlfriend to get more. Its one of those sandwiches where you take a bite, and then proceed to sit in complete silence for about 5 minutes after trying to comprehend how effing good this thing actually is, while stuffing your face with more. This place is incredible! Give them a visit.

As a former restaurateur for over 25 years and being part Italian (the good half) I have fallen in mad love with this place. I feel like the last guy on the deal team to discover it but now that I have life will not be the same. I appreciate the simplicity, attention to detail, remarkable customer service, and unbelievable quality this establishment produces. I have to be in awe that anyone would write anything other than a love letter but I would pose two caveats to enjoying Tempesta; one, don’t come here unless you have seen a little of the world and have some taste, and two, if you are in a hurry, understand these folks clean their slicers between customers, show respect to the food (and their clients) and if you are in a big rush just place an order for pickup. This is the business model I wished existed more in America. It literally makes Chicago’s stock go up and in general despite the negativity, unhappiness and challenges we have had to face in the last year or so (actually for several decades) the staff and their goodies behind the glass are some of my reasons to live. Seriously, go check it out and if you agree with my appraisal you can be my new lunch pal. I may even let you cut in line!

Finally got in The Tempesta Deli. Tried the Zeppo meatball sandwich. 3 smaller well made meatballs but small on a highly buttered texas toast bread. Bread very soft but surprisingly held sandwich together. If there was cheese it had little or no impact could hardly taste it. I expected a whole lot more for $13.23. Go to Nonnas on Randolph u get a much larger sandwich for less $$ and the bread is far superior.

Also love following their Instagram to know about fun weekend specials! “The Boardwalk” with pork roll was a fave this summer (iykyk) and the potatonator is my #1 hangover cure. All probably enough for two ppl but too good to share. truly the stuff worth living for. Thanks for all you do tempesta team ❤️ 10/10

This place was phenomenal, i Highly recommend. The 13B Turkey Franklin was so good, if i get to come back its the sandwich Id get. The beet sandwich was also delicious, the vinegar in the beets played so well with the apple. The chicken dumpling soup was subpar, but if you enjoy lemon and chicken, try it out!Worth noting: we didnt try the chips but the plums were AMAZING. Best plum ive had all year, do Not overlook.

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant!!! My boyfriend and I specifically wanted to come try their dinner options (served Thursday- Sunday). We got the charcuterie board with three meats and three cheeses, salad, spaghetti and meatballs, and the bolognese. Everything was delicious, but the charcuterie board took the show. Probably the best Ive had in the city. On top of the great food, it was some of the best service Ive ever had. I would go back just for the service. Thank you Tempesta for the great experience!!

The muffulletta is insane. Its the best sandwich Ive ever had. Now I have to go back and try some of the others. But I dont know if I will be able to resist just getting that incredible sandwich again. I would drive across the city for that sandwich. Its outrageously delicious- they also have nitrate free meats (if relevant for you; its a dealbreaker for me). Sandwiches come with a choice of fruit or chips- both are good. They sell deli meats and cheeses amongst other products and have a small pasta menu to order from- everything smelled amazing. Nice, small patio- on this stretch of Grand it is nice and quiet. Tempesta is a fun market with a very friendly staff- who are helpful and very chill. That muffulletta though- I had to wait a few minutes to process how delicious it was after taking the first bite. It may be a special or just off-menu; but in true fashion was pre-assembled and sitting on the counter ready to go. I hate to say it- but it crushes the muffulletta at Central Grocery in NOLA (sorry) but in the best way. And I love Central Grocery. This was like a discovery of flavor and texture, messy and all of the best qualities a Chicagoan could want on a sandwich- silky, thin deli meats, the most perfect amount of sogginess and picked vegetables and olives falling everywhere. The gelato is good too- I ordered pistachio and it was heavenly. I accidentally ordered a small and should have gotten the kids as I did not read the size amount.I cant wait to go back!

There are so many weird types of salumi and cured meats here, and both my nduja and guanciale were quite good. This place makes me proud to live in Chicago. The Italian family that owns this place has the best products anywhere. Their wagu pastrami, mortadella, any sandwich they make, everything at Tempesta is 100% 5star quality. This family also has a 5 star Italian restaurant that has the best Italian food in the Midwest. I used to go to Mulberry st in NY, no more, Ristorante Agostino Gustafino & Tempesta are the 2 best names in Italian food outside of Italy. Thank you Tony & Agostino for the time you put in to make sure everyone says “oh my god I’m so full I couldn’t stop eating” every time.

Buyer beware. They have had a lot of turnover during the pandemic and signage from OSHA on the windows implies they weren’t following COVID precautions. Customer service has taken a turn for the worse, and when you are forced to stand outside in 90+ degree weather (no social distancing markers) for a sandwich you ordered online an hour prior (when the wait time online said 20 minutes) and the manager obviously couldn’t care less...it’s time to take your business elsewhere. What was once a family friendly place now just seems to be a money making machine. $15 for a meatball sandwich that has THREE meatballs?! Cmon....

First off... No. Not related to the business at all. Happen to share the same name and made it a point to visit before I headed out of Chicago today.Simply put it was awesome to have my name represented so well!Fantastic deli style casual, amazing meats on display and on sandwiches. Got the Dante and a pastry. The Dante was absolutely delectable with meats and cheese stuffed into a delicious piece of fresh bread. The pastry was awesome. We normally have a great experience here. Maybe they’re a little short staffed or having a huge rush of orders today. But I called to place an order, she said she was putting me on hold and instead she hung up me. I called back to hear a voicemail that says “due to covid they’re only accepting orders online”. The girl on the phone could have just said that to me before she accidentally hung up on me, but I’m glad to hear that information either way. I ordered online. Then, I picked up my order from the window and it was ready 10 minutes before they estimated. I was pleasantly surprised. But when I got home, I found that they forgot my sandwich. Tried to call to let them know they forgot it, and they didn’t answer. Went back to pick the sandwich up and the girl at the window seemed like she just didn’t want to be there today. Sandwich had wilted lettuce and seemed like it had been sitting out for a bit. Meatballs and soup were room temp - Subpar. Weird vibe today.

I have not visited this place for about a year. Few days ago I stopped by and I have to say that I was very disappointed with what I’ve ordered. My favorite sandwich ( #7) was not the same at all. Bread texture was totally off, amount of beets and apples was overwhelming. Because of that sandwich got soggy really quick. What I remember from a year ago was a wonderful sandwich on a very crispy bread with a perfect ratio of beets, apples, pickled onion and almond butter. Unfortunately this time it was nothing like that.
