I had no idea this gem was in the historic Beverly neighborhood! I scored some great items here. Love the vibe. This place will be on my must visit list whenever Im in Chicago.

Fun place to get away for a few and find really cool treasures. Cant recommend this place enough. I come here as often as I can cause the inventory is always unique and different with the prices better than normal, Pricing is almost peanuts compared to other shops ive visited, Take my word you will love this place.

However shopping and whether or not a customer comes back is about the experience not just the item. My very first time at Root (about 6 months ago) was a very pleasant experience and the owner was Professional, helpful, and seemed as if she appreciated that we decided to check her store out. In fact at the time my sister and I were the only ones in the store (we are both African American) Very excited about my finds I just knew that I wanted to come back. Unfortunately the next time I came back there were others in the store (Caucasians at the time) but this time I noticed something seemed a little different about the owner. There was not that friendliness there that I initially saw although it was there for the other customers who were Caucasian. I initially blew it off as I was imagining things, or perhaps being a bit over sensitive. However on subsequent visits at least 5 more times I experienced the same type of vibe (that she could take or leave her African American customers). Today I was in the store and once again I noticed it. Actually I had two people who were also African American with me and without even mentioning what I had been thinking they too expressed a similar feeling. I shop at Root Consignment strictly out of choice not because of need. But after today I have decided that I will no longer support this establishment. Perhaps there are African American customers that will say that was not their experience but I can pretty much guarantee that there are probably a nice number of African Americans who have experienced this but for a various reasons just never wrote a review. It is really sad because the store itself is nice. But I would rather spend my money at an establishment where the owner appreciates me as a customer regardless of who is or isnt in their store at the time.

Probably my favorite 2nd hand shop. Vintage and modern furniture, clothing, etc. Reasonable prices. Great atmosphere.

Love this place! I placed several items on consignment, which all sold and ended up spending what I made in the store. So many great , quality things from chandeliers to a little black dress.

Support your local businesses! The owner is welcoming and knowledgeable. There are a variety of vendors with some wonderful items. Even just walking through its almost like visiting a very cozy museum.

I love going here. All of the items are amazing and in great condition. The prices are a bit on the expensive side, but you will always find something worth it. The lady who runs it (sorry I dont know her name) is so nice. All around 10/10 experience.

This is hands down my favorite shop. I consign here and I also shop here. This place is incredible for unique housewares, lighting, and even clothing and accessories. I have been consigning here for a few years and yes, you may have to do your own due diligence with inventory nowadays with them, but that’s a good thing. They used to do a generic inventory but stuff is coming in and going out so fast that they now just send you a check or you can keep it for credit towards future shopping.It’s one of the higher paying percentages nowadays and they have great taste so your stuff isn’t amongst a ton of junk. Her prices are reasonable and that’s why there is such a high turnover of goods which makes it constantly fresh. It’s nice to see that they didn’t start getting crazy with their prices as they get more and more business. I try to pop in every couple weeks and it’s ALWAYS different. Tip: They sometimes get really rare pieces and you can be the first to see them if you follow their Instagram stories. Love this spot!

I see many people have given 4 stars or more. I have not had that great experience as of yet. I brought in several clothing items, which were in good condition and only one outfit was accepted. I call, regularly to see if it has been sold and Im told, no. I really have no proof of it being sold or not, unless I decide to go and look through the items being sold. I hope my experience with this business becomes at least a 3 star.

I love this place! Every time I come, theres always something new and exciting to see hete. usually there are one of a kind items there. Which I love. I do not like to see myself going and coming. Prices are reasonable and they have new items coming in every week. A must go-to place.

Nice and unusually things

This is a very hip shop! It feels like an old suburban downtown next to the train station, but is actually in the city. The prices are surprisingly low as compared to other parts of Chicago. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful,and cute. I like going in and checking things out.

Never know what cool bargains you might find.

Angela is ethical and runs a beautiful store. I have been lucky to shop at both her stores over the years. She is a wonderful person and I have bought great stuff from her.

Good store... sold my stuff and sold me a belt fur better prices than regular retail (ok on one side and great on the other side of the commerce table...)

They dont give a receipt for items when you bring them in - just plop them down and tell you they dont give you an inventory of what you leave with them, then they donate items they say they wont sell and dont take an accounting of what of yours they gave away, so you have no way of knowing what they give away and what they sell. You can keep a list of what you drop off but wont do you any good . Basically you have no way of knowing what they decide to do with your things. I may open a consignment shop and furnish my house and fill my closet 😃

Very poor clothing selections! Other items boring....more like garage sale junk.Angela the Owner has a store in Michigan City and flops back and forth between the two stores. Although she does live in Michigan City, Indiana.Angela is waaay too picky on taking in consignments! I perused the store clothing items as she was going through my items and believe me the clothing items were of little desire. She is a “Michael Kors” wannabe!Definitely NOT worth your time!!
