I came to Standard Camera Repair because my camera would not signal the lense to autofocus. Originally, I called Nikon tech support but they were not able to help me. I was desperate because of a big event and needed my camera. I came to Dean and he was able to fix it right away. I will be back whenever I have a problem with my camera. Hes the best.

I recently got two 35mm cameras repaired here, one of which was over 60 years old. I received excellent service from the owner, who was a pleasure to speak with! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about his work. Pricing was fair and the turn around time was good (a week or two on the more modern camera and a little longer for the older one). I will be taking any and all repairs I need done in the future to Standard Camera and I highly recommend this shop. I cannot stress how wonderful the service I received was!

My Nikon D90 all of sudden stopped working, the mirror on my DSLR would not return to its lower position due to an aperture base failure and thus causing a timing issue. The owner assured me that they knew exactly what need to be done, they had performed this repair many times in the past. Apparently Nikon needed to issue an improved version of this module and that is the one that would be installed for my repair, assuring me of years of future use. I walked in the camera on Thursday, it was fixed the next day, and I picked it up on Saturday!! Three day service, great!! The camera body had also been cleaned and stored in a thick plastic bag to keep it dust free. There were no scratches or blemishes indicating they took care in the handling of my equipment.The owner was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. He was friendly, assuring, and easy to talk to. If I have any future camera issues, this is where I am returning to. I highly recommend Standard Camera Repair as others have, they have earned their 5 star ratings.

The first time I had a sensor issue and corrosion in the battery compartment. Other shops quoted me up to $1,000 for just the loose sensor. Deen got my equipment back to me in four days AND fixed the battery corrosion for less than $350.This time I have a lens thats not properly communicating with the body. Its a Samyang 35mm 1.4 that has a reputation for motor and communication problems.Deen has decades of experience repairing cameras for major camera companies. Now that he owns his own shop he is the person B&H, Adorama, and others subcontract their repairs to fix.There is no sending the camera off to get an estimate. He tells you right then and there what he believes is wrong with it and fixes it in shop! Youre not going to beat the turnaround time or the prices.We talked today for 30 minutes about cameras and hes so knowledgeable about photography and the gear. It is so sad that we photographers dont have good places to send our equipment out for repair without heaving a subscription account with one of the camera companies. Some of my students send their equipment for cleaning or repair maybe once and for that, you dont need a subscription. So, I found Standard Camera Repair in the northwest side of Chicago.I encourage all my students to use their service.

Standard Repair kept me updated, via emails and with a portal, on the status of my repair. Estimate was quick and repairs began as soon as work was approved. Wish they were a little quicker but I think I was expecting too much. Would definitely use them again.

My review is a little late but Im happy to say that this is one of the BEST repair stores Ive ever been to! The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and super nice, and he fixed up a Canon AE-1 I had that had been broken and scratched up for over 10 years. Sent a canon 6D for sensor cleaning and firmware upgrade. Price was reasonable and the work was performed very quickly. He even removed a cracked lcd screen protector for free which I was afraid to remove myself. Total time to ship to and get my camera returned was only a week-and most of that time was shipping. My 50mm 1.4 Canon lens autofocus feature stopped working. Standard cameras fixed it for me for 80 dollars cheaper than other stores I checked out. Very cooperative and did a clean job. Highly recommended.

The mount ring on my Sony FE Macro 90mm F/2.8 G OSS got damaged in a way where it could not be mounted on the body. Standard Camera Repair fixed the stock ring so I did not have to replace the entire ring mount set up (would also cost more) he also tested the lens to ensure that It was not out of alignment. Very communicative and informative, and all around great customer service. Hopefully I wont have to, but if I ever have an issue with my equipment I will definitely return.

I had ordered a Yashica 635 film camera on eBay and it came with its aperture setting completely broken, as well as some other issues like the self timer function not working properly. I was a little worried that I wouldnt be able to find a place that could repair such a vintage camera but Deen was able to get the job done. Im writing this review about a month or two after I got my camera back and in that time I was able to shoot several rolls of film and get the scans back. Everything has come out amazing so far and Im really happy with the results I received from Standard Camera Repair.

I took in my well-worn Ricoh GR II for repair due to the image review button not working. I know the cause was the camera getting a bit wet. Deen inspected the camera and confirmed there was some corrosion on the contacts. He sent me pictures of the affected areas and agreed to take on the repair. Most camera shops will not accept this type of repair. He charged me a reasonable price, and it was ready in a couple days. The camera is working great again, and he also gave me a 6 month warranty on the repair. I would definitely recommend Standard Camera Repair.

I have a Canon SX50 HS that got wet several times while doing field work. Although the camera eventually dried out, it returned lens error messages frequently and would shut down. I thought the camera was shot, but wanted to get it repaired. I brought it to Deen at Standard Camera Repair and he was able to fully clean and restore functionality for a very reasonable price. Back in June,after my camera and tripod took a fall on some boulders, I thought my camera along the attached lens was ruined. I called standard camera repair and he told me to send it in and gave me a price over the phone (which was lower than what other repair shops quoted). When the camera was received, he noticed the repair was more involved than originally thought but stuck to the original price. When he returned the camera to me, I noticed some issues (I had rare camera and he mentioned it may be more complex to repair... Nikon 810A). He immediately offered take the camera back and fix it until I was satisfied. The commutation during the entire process was excellent, he clearly explained everything he was doing and the repair was made promptly. I was devastated when my camera broke and feared the daunting process of sending my camera impersonal shop that could take months to repair. However, Stan made the process painless as possible.

My Canon EOS-M3 would just not turn on any more. I brought it in and Deen quickly diagnosed the problem, the battery door switch. Within two days he sent me a very reasonable quote and got my camera back working again over the weekend. Saved me a lot of time compared to sending it out of town.
