The best meat selection in town. I drive from Concord just to get their meats. This place is truly a landmark in the community. I hope it stays around for more years to come.

I love going to this grocery store. I buy all my meats from there. Also I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. Because I deep dry chicken skin [instead of fatback] & I asked the owner could he get me 10 lbs. Of chicken skin, he got it the same day. Meanwhile the other stores would not help me . This is a great grocery store.. time for my big bag of wings... GIANT PENNY IS GREAT..

Perhaps the best name for a super market I have ever seen, but not sure why this place has higher reviews than Harris Teeter; the selection is smaller, the prices are higher and the lighting is dimmer. Although they do have a pretty sweet checkered floor, this place feels more like a large convenience store than anything else, although they do have quite a good selection of meat, which was by far the most popular area of the store(its in the back).

Ok here is the break down. GIANT Penny. Its big among stores..let me tell you why..Fresh PRODUCE.peppers.Fresh MEATS...like Pork steak and chicken wings all a very reasonable price. Clean store ,phenomenal employees. Even if you get one thing you got to check out The Penny..GIANT PENNY

My Mom Loves Giant Penny. She lives out of town and she has me to buy her meat at Giant Penny and I take it to her. She says that the wings are the best. The roast are good and tender. I have been shopping for for years. My whole Family Loves Giant Penny.

This a hidden gem. This should be the neighborhood grocery store. Quick in and out. Good prices especially in the meat dept. Staff is friendly and helpful. For those that pass this daily, stop in, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I got to give it to these guys the employees that work there are always courteous, friendly, respectful and always willing to help. The shopping aisles are always clean matter of fact the whole store is always clean,the meats fresh and well stock so is the vegetables and fruits I recommend this store to anyone this side of town.☆☆☆☆☆

I love the giant penny. lots of times you can find very good produce for a fraction of the cost at the big grocery stores. also the meat is good and great prices. we tend to buy bulk and fill our deep freeze and it is more affordable to do so at giant penny than say Walmart. only Down side is dairy products and some other things are cheaper elsewhere

Reasonably priced meat & produce w/o sacrificing quality. Friendly staff. In house meat cutters who are very helpful. A good variety of products, but still focused on the tastes of the local clientele. For the shopper whos looking for value & service, I would highly recommend Giant Penny.

This is an old school neighborhood grocery store. The store is spotlessly clean!! Very organized and for a small store well stocked. Fresh greens, collard greens and one that my grandmother use to grow, dry land cressey greens! Smoked turkey and pork and a nice fresh meats section. Very friendly. A pleasure to stop by when Im in the NoDa area.

Wonderful. I’m visiting from NY and my friend and I wanted to make a huge meal for our reunion. She took me here to get the groceries. It’s clean and the products are fresh. The staff was also kind and helpful. Wish we had one in nyc I’ll miss it.

The meat department is great! The can goods and other items arent the best price..so I still have to go a different store for can goods and other cheaper items..thats the only part I hate😔

I love giant penny Ive being going to this store since it was giant genie I was a little girl there meats are fresh and cheap the only reason why I drive all the way over there.. And a 12 case of mystic drinks for $10 mux and match the flavors..

I have lived in Charlotte for 11 years and Im JUST now learning about this place! I love it when I find inexpensive groceries that are of great quality. I bought so many seasonings and they are perfection.I will have no issue driving 30 minutes to get here, its so worth it!

I love shopping at the giant penny for bulk meats. My only complaint is the last 2 times I bought chicken it had a sell or freeze by date of 5 days after I bought. by the next day I went to cook it and it smelt rancid. it was refrigerated properly so not sure what happen so idk if I will buy chicken again.

The staff are nice and professional. The meat prices are low and I think the other items are priced ok, if you compare the prices of the non-meat items to a big chained grocery store prices then of course youre going to think theyre high but when you consider this is a local independent grocery store that doesnt have a commercial chain backing them up then the prices arent all that bad. The store is clean and stocked well and parking is a breeze. Ive read some people say the chicken is small which is true but lets be logical here, would you rather buy meat from a store where you dont have to wonder if theyre pumping hormones in the meat to make them bigger or would you keep buying meat from a store where the chicken is oddly big knowing they are pumping something in them? Well for me and my family, I am only going to buy my meat from Giant Penny.

Great deals unfortunately meat was spoiled when i opened the pack. The date on the meat is for a week out. That doesnt mean anything. Please be careful before feeding your family.

I love this store and miss it so much since I moved out of state. But whenever I go see family, this is my go-to for groceries especially meats!! The selection is huge and the prices are great, really can’t be beat. Our family does cookouts for the holidays so we buy chicken wings by the case (40lbs). I don’t know where else you can get that much chicken in bulk without regretting your purchase. Also the pork chops and steaks are priced well too. Other reviewers said the pantry items are priced ok but I think they’re priced well too. I pretty much can get everything I need at Giant Penny under my budget. Thank you GP!

Love this place. Reasonable price for meats! Not good for getting anything to make side dishes tho. But the meats and seafood are labeled at reasonable prices... i have a family of 4 and i can get about 4 packs of chicken wings, breast, legs, strips each. About 3 big packs of turkey wings and some fish (croaker, tilapia, etc) for about 100 dollars if not less.

The only reason I did not give 5 stars was due to the price of actual grocery items,which are overpriced. Did not experience any weird smells as some have posted but definately great prices on fresh meat. The ground beef was not marked with a fat to actual meat ratio so I also avoided. But for all other meats its a straight thumbs up. This really aleviates my pockets some. Will definately be back
