I purchased a Monterey M-45 from Hanckel Marine on 9/25/2020. Deal was almost too good to be true on a basically brand new demo boat. Brandon and Billy were very helpful on the phone before the sale and everything they told me was correct upon inspection. No BS when it came time to pay - price was exactly what I was quoted on the phone. Billy took his time explaining the boats features, motor break in tips, and other useful tricks. He didnt waste any time either - we were in and out in about an hour, which was good because we had a long trip back to North Carolina. Overall Im very happy with the experience and purchase. Billy was, though, wrong about the top speed. He said itd hit mid-40s, but we hit nearly 50 mph with 2 kids, 4 adults, and one very big labrador on the maiden voyage. :)

I absolutely love this store. I was working on repairing a Johnson 115 and probably came in 20 times trying to get the thing running. John is absolutely amazing. He knows his stuff and takes the time to listen to what’s going on and explain what he thinks will help. Thanks to him, I was able to get out on the water and see the most perfect sunrise. I brought my boat in that was running, but needed a once over before heading out on the water since it had sat for awhile. Through some miscommunication during the service my boat was returned to me not working. The fuel line had been cut in two, which I didnt notice until I put the boat in the water. I was frustrated, of course, but things happen.Hanckel offered an apology, however didnt offer to do anything to make the situation right. That bothered me even more. I had spent several hours of my own time fixing the problem they left. To top that off the ignition switch they installed and charged me an hours worth of labor for fell to pieces when I cranked it, and the fuel filter that needed to be changed out was completely overlooked. I originally dropped my boat off because I didnt have time to work on it myself. Instead I spent my free time that should have been on the water back in the garage.Id recommend if you take your boat here, to have them go over everything they did (and didnt do) when you pick it up. Ive purchased motors and had them serviced here for years, but this time theyve lost a customer. Very disappointed.

This is a great place to do business! I intentionally waited a few weeks after I made a purchase to do this review. I wanted to see how I would be treated after my purchase because I knew as a first time boat owner I would have questions. Alot of times post-sale support is non existent in the sales industry , a sales rep/ business can say they will be there for you post -sale during the buying process and then immediately after the sale is complete you are ignored. I can honestly say that at Hanckel Marine that is not the case. I bought my first boat here a few weeks ago and since that purchase date I have called or stopped by (I stay near by) about a few questions and have gotten the answers and support that I needed. One of the times I stopped by I know a phone call or email would have gotten me the answer I needed, but I intentionally stopped by to see if I would be brushed off, but I was not. The sales staff has a natural ability to relate and to both create and maintain relationships with customers and thats vital. Every staff member that I have interacted with has been friendly and down to earth. So I can confidently say if you are in the market to purchase a boat or have your boat serviced I would highly recommend doing business at Hanckel Marine. Let me start off by saying that we truly enjoyed our shopping/buying experience and now continued relationship with Hanckel Marine. From the very beginning it has been like family. I could name individual people there, but by the time I finished I would have named almost every person who works there. If you are looking to buy a boat or you are just looking, stop in at Hanckel Marine, you wont regret it.

I bought a Sportsman Island Reef 17 from Hanckel in 2016. Bill was awesome! He trailered the boat to Mount Pleasant to make sure it would fit in my garage. He even pushed it in the garage to check the fit, and then took me and my family on a test ride in our neighborhood before the purchase. The way Hanckel treated me after the sale was just as impressive. I had a few minor issues which they fixed no questions asked. Also, the newer Island Reef model had updates which they installed for free. I think you can tell a lot about people by seeing how they handle the small things. They treated me with the kind of attention and service you would expect on a high end yacht purchase and not an entry level boat purchase. I can’t say enough good things about Bill and everyone at Hanckel!

Went to check out the sportsman boats they sell....spoke with Milo Hanckel....he is very knowledgeable and not a pushy salesman...he asked questions about what I expected from a boat and what my usage would be. This dealership is definitely not going to just sell you a boat, they are there to sell you the CORRECT boat.. he gave me the build out forms so I could choose options and such and catalog of all the boat models....I also appreciated the time he spent with me actually looking at the boats they have in stock....nice inventory....not just a few to try to choose from...but a lot of boats...this is a top notch dealer....I look forward to a purchase of a new boat from Hanckel Marine, once I decide on either the 232 open or the 227 bay or 247 bay......thank you again for your time....dave porton

Left my 2011 Ranger Ghost flats boat (w/ 1 year old trailer) to sell on commission and they required a “full examination” and tune up for roughly $1k. No problem.A few months later i pulled the plug to go back fishing. I picked up the boat with hydraulic oil across back only to discover the Minn Kota sand spike had been forced down, which blew its hose. Once on the water I discovered my Garmin gps was no longer working. Took back to fix what they’d broken and they said “sorry, stuff just wears out” but couldn’t explain why everything passed their “in depth” examination …then wore out.When i picked it back up the 2nd time, standing with the service manager, i discovered someone had raised the jackplate without releasing trailer straps and straightened out my anchoring hardware. Could have really damaged something far worse! “Oh, I’m sorry … we don’t have those eyebolts in stock either.” Also, NOW a trailer light was broken and hanging off.And here’s the hard part - all I heard were excuses, no one investigated anything. They had no answer for finding everything in perfect working order and then breaking, somehow, during the time in their possession.Service at Hanckle is about as bad as anything I’ve witnessed (besides Tesla). Shame on them for begging me to write this review.
